Help! Unlocked Tilt Problems
i recently purchased a tilt online and it is brand new everything is fine with the phone but i unlocked the phone because my company switched from att to tmobile, so before i unlocked the phone my att 3g sim card worked fine with the phone, wifi worked fine 3g icon came up in network bubble at the top taskbar...but after i unlocked the phone and placed the tmobile sim card in the tilt, no Edge or gpsr icon shows up at the top next to the signal strength icon and when i click on wifi and go online everything works fine but after i go back to commanager to turn off the wifi....the wifi icon doesnnt go away from the top taskbar..its just shows the no signal wifi icon when the wifi is off. So then i took the tmobile sim card out and placed the cingular sim back in the phone and when i click on the wifi button and then press it again in commanager to turn wifi off the icon, it goes away like normal....so is there something wrong with my tmobile sim card? which is why its not showing any edge or gprs icons for some reason? even though i dont have a data plan i should see when i am in an edge area...what is annoying me the most is when i place this tmobile sim in the tilt, the wifi icon wont go away when the wifi is being turned off in wireless manager. PLz help this is very strange and i cant seem to find out how to gain these icons and lose the wifi icon when wifi isnt on.
wow are u serious nobody has had prblems with the wifi icon not going away or any other icons not going away when there not supposed to be turned on? ..this is a huge forum i know i can find someone to help me figure out why this tmmobile sim card is doing this to my phone and not allowing the wifi icon to go away from the top task bar when i go into comm manager and press the wifi off button it doesnt work...the wifi radio itself turns off and theres no data being sent to the phone from the wireless router but the icon stays on the phone and the only way to get rid of the icon is to go in comm manager and press the phone button to turn of all connections to my phone. This problem only occurs with my current tmobile sim card which is being used in an ATT 8925 unlocked tilt PLZ somebody help me get rid of this problem

I am not one to help because I am also a noob and your issues are not ones I have seen. BUT - let me give you what help I can:
Recommendations -
1. use punctuation.
2. use concrete sentences
3. specifically tell what you did and enumerate each problem separately
4. indicate what ROM you are using
5. indicate what changes you made to your phone AFTER you went to the TMOBILE card
Now - here are some guesses -
1. you had an AT&T phone with AT&T connection strings - and you think that unlocking the phone and simply putting in a TMOBILE card will make the phone work?
My guess is that you are going to have to change some data connection strings at least? AT&T is not going to allow you to use media net to surf the internet with no contract using a TMobile card.
Remember - you are asking people to use their spare time to help you fix YOUR screwup. Make it easy for them to read and help you.

ok so i have a brand new ATT tilt regular htc/att rom no flash upgrades nothing. So i had to unlock the phone to use it with my tmobile service. After i unlocked the phone and placed this tmobile sim in the phone something strange with the wifi happens, when i turn on the wifi the icon comes up like normal on the top taskbar, and when i turn the wifi off after use the icon doesnt go away....this is strange and never happened when i had my old cingular sim in the phone...is there any way to fix the icon and make it go away? or am i going to have to turn off all services in the commmanager by pressin the phone button to take the icon away whenever i use wifi. HAs anyone unlocked there phone and had these strange problems happen before with a TMOBILE SIM CARD?

You should not start more than one thread asking for help - you not only will not get helped - you will need an asbestos suit...
Here is your other thread:

BTW: you are still not using puctuation to its best use and carriage returns to make your questions identifiable and easy to read.
Duplicate / redundant threads merged.
If you want us to help you, please take the time to use punctuation.
Thanks!

run this cab file on your phone and after doing a Soft Reset, go to Start>Settings>Connections>Connection Setup and choose T-Mobile from the list if the program doesnt run on its own.
Thanks to Dutty for putting this together for us to share with the ones not familiar with it.
that didnt work...all it did was add tmobile data to my connections. My wifi icon still doesnt go away from top taskbar when i turn wifi off. Since i unlocked this att phone an im using a tmobile sim card, do u think i should install the official tmobile windows mobile 6 for HTC phones? seems that this tmobile sim card is the culperate of making this wifi error, because when i take this sim out and place an old cingular sim in the phone it doesnt do this error. Wifi turns off when its suppose to and no icons hang around. If anybody has ever heard of this problem plz help...i dont want to go to the last resort of switching to WM 6.1 right now or something i like WM6

I will bet that you are not going to get help -
1. you use run on sentences that are VERY difficult to read
2. you do not specifically state your problem or goal
3. you state "that did not work" you do not QUOTE what you were trying so no one knows what THAT is (although I am suspecting that you ran the suggested cab file)
You need to:
1. use EXPLICIT SHORT sentences
2. engage the CARRIAGE RETURN KEY
3. enumerate your issues
4. tell us what you want to happen - we CANNOT guess what you have hosed up
5. Not an expert - so you will need someone else to tell you that this is true - but each company "brands the device and makes it so that the phone works with their system. If you are leaving AT&T and going with TMOBILE I suspect that you MAY need to flash to a ROM that works specifically with TMOBILE BUT
SPECIFICALLY STATE what you want - for example:
I have an HTC TILT - it was an AT&T phone and I want it to work on TMOBILE -
Currently - nothing works on the phone and here is what i have done.....
or
Currently everything works on the phone EXCEPT...
Just my opinion and I am going to quit responding to your message (which you may actually appreciate) as it is obvious that they have no effect.

dood whk im not in english class....im on an online forum trying to get help to fix my phone..get a clue or get a life cuz obviously u have nothing better to do but tell people to use punctuation when im obviously not worried about how i type in a freakin forum u jerkoff...and for have this thread up for a week and getting limited help on what i ACTUALLY NEED HELP ON MY ATT TILT AND WHY A TMOBILE SIM MAKES MY WIFI ICON NOT GO AWAY WHEN IM DONE WITH WIFI AND TRY TO TURN IT OFF..THE DATA STOPS BUT THE ICON DOESNT GO AWAY FROM THE TOP OF MY PHONE...IT JUST STOPS SEARCHING FOR SERVICE WHEN I PRESS THE WIFI OFF BUTTON...there, so i guess i need to use a new rom and flash a radio or wutever that is....that conection setup cab only put tmobile data in my conections. It did nothing to switch att defaults in the phone to tmobile, thnx anywayz guy who gave me that app....if anyone has had these issues with tmobile sims plz respond and not reply with english lessons
well no one is goin to read that type of garbage if its just one bigass blurb of words together...i'm with whk...and caps doesnt help either...maybe thats why no one wants to help u...and if u cant be bothered about the way u type...we cant be bothered to give u assistance ...just a headsup
well i solvd the problem myself by changing radios...thats all sommebody had to say..some of you arre a buncha idiots like whk....i didnt post this thread to get grammer lessons, i posted to get some damn help you morons so if u wana tell people how to type go to a fckin word proccessing forum u flamers
Good luck here in the forums, if you can't manage to follow something as basic as proper grammar and spelling, no one will bother reading what you have to say.
I for one, read MAYBE the first sentence in your posts apart from the last, and I'm certain I'm not alone.
and FYI, a better attitude will get you along ways here if you intend to stay. Your current attitude could likely result in a ban, and that causes issues when you need help.
dood....
You really need to read the links in my signature BEFORE you waste any more time on this forum.
I seriously suspect this is not the place for you as we actually expect you to have 3rd grade or better communications skills. Several members have attempted to help you but you don't seem to grasp simple concepts.
Thread closed as it is pointless. I would suggest you spend some time reading the forums if you really want to solve YOUR problems. The answers you seek can be found using search (and better language skills).
Thread closed due to rudeness!
moegdaog - consider this an official warning!
Please use polite language or you will be banned.
And in the future consider this simple fact:
No one can see your device so if you don't do your best to describe the problem no one can help you.
Also big chunks of continues text are hard to read and most people just give up.
Try to break up you posts in the future.
Hi
I just got on at&T 8925, I put in sim card and it did not ask for unlock code, so I guess it is unlocked, I put in my sim card (Fido Canada, works in other phone) and it show "no service" can not find phone network signal.
I tried
ATT ROM 1.57.502.2 and
RUU_Kaiser_ROGERS_WWE_1.83.631.4_radio_sign_22.51.88.13_1.27.15.32R_Test.exe
radio 1.27.12.11 and 1.27.15.32
all same problem.
Can anyone help me, are these rom combinations not good? or something wrong with the device?
or anything I need to do?
thank you for your help !
Try another known-good SIM card. If you still cannot get service, then you probably have a hardware issue with the phone.
Sounds stupid, but did you make sure you put the SIM in the right way around.
You wouldn't believe how many people have not done this right.
Sounds like it's not unlocked... when I got mine it wasn't unlocked but it only asked for a code once.... just run the unlocker to be sure...
maybe to hard reset?
Hi thanks for everyone's help.
I think I put the sim card the right way , otherwise it will show 'no sim card'
I am keep trying other rom/radio; still no luck, it either keep searching or say 'no service'
I really hope it is not hardware problem.
hope if anyone has the experience and could help me
it really confuse me.
Thanks

welll this might be a little solution i read in another thread...sum times the phone will not read the sim becuz its not making enough contact to the phone...so maybe a little piece of paper on top of the sim then put it in the phone MIGHT help..if it doesnt then ur phone is jacked up =P
or
when i put my tmobile sim in my unlocked 8925 it worked and then a couple our couldnt get n e service... and i checked my brothers phone and dad and they didnt have service too... so maybe sumtimes the network will nto work for a while. or sumthing
If you go in the phone options and do a manual network search, does it find anything?
Thanks brian_v3ntura:
but I tried paper, same thing, maybe not be contact problem.
Thanks kilrah:
I tried that, it shows " cannot read setting from network, try viewing setting later or disconnect data connection and try again."
I did saw something online that maybe because the Fido sim card maybe old (about 3 years), but it did work with sth. like Samsung blackjack II. maybe Kaiser is more complicated.
just wonding if anyone have experience that old sim card may have problem with new phones.
I will keeping trying...
My SIM card is about 4 years old.
I'd bet your Kaiser has a hardware problem.
Hi, guys
I tried a friend's Fido sim card, it works, I don't what's the difference, but it is just like that, maybe I should go get a new card.
Thanks everyone.
good
as one of the boys ur sim might be damaged/old (power failure issues most likely)

yeah, just what confused me is that the sim card still work with my other phones.
Hey guys,
Long time lurker here... and I'm having the same problem.
I have a foreign (Cyprus CytaMobile Vodaphone) SIM in my Kaiser. A couple times over the last few days I was getting the "no service" but if I reset (turn on/off) the device it was fine. Today I cannot get service on it at all. I tried it in an unlocked 1G iPhone and it didn't seem to work either.
I thought maybe the SIM is dead, however when the device it's in starts up, it asks me for the PIN set on the SIM card. I enter the PIN, and it unlocks the SIM. How could the SIM be dead if the PIN authenticates? However, when I put my regular Canadian Rogers SIM in, it works fine.
Where it usually says "Searching.." on the home screen, I once got "Denied, searching.." but I haven't been able to reproduce it.
Any ideas? The provider doesn't have a local roaming agreement, however for the past year it has always registered on the network and allowed me to check balance and send text messages.
Is it most likely a dead SIM or blocked by Rogers? I'm doubting the blocked part, but the successful PIN entry is what has me baffled...
Thanks!
Chris
Ok different SIM card also from Cyprus Cytamobile in a SE w810 does the same thing. Is Rogers seriously all of a sudden blocking these? There is no local roaming agreement, however I would always get the Rogers welcome text's and even be able to check balances. I've been doing this off and on for 4 years...
Anyone ever heard of something like this?
Thanks,
Chris
P.S. Sorry, getting a bit off topic but I thought the initial problem was related!
EDIT: Ok, I can also see all the SIM contacts and SMS messages stored on the SIM.

I also have the same problem with my tytn, I have a bad feeling it is hardware If you manage to find the problem please let me know. I have tried the paper thing and also all new firmware and OS nothing helps
Try setting it to GSM only (disable 3G) and see what happens.
To do that go to Settings->Personal->Phone->Band->Network Type=GSM.
If it works then, you might want to read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=419803
Hi
Got a little problem for a while now the first way i helped my way worket but not long so mey be one of u know how it work better.
From time to time my tab just says sim is not put in bit if i remove it it reboots cus i "removed sim" so the is be notivied. First i found out that it could be my sim cus i used in my old phone and it was hot a bit from the connectors in it and i should use a strip of "tesa" on the back so that it is better connectet. It worked for a while now the problem came back again when i driving car an its on the samsung-cardock it is sometimes gone or better the sim.
Do i have to reorder a new one or is it a prob of my tab? When it is the tab i`ll have a prob cus its rooted so no garanie
Oh and sorry for my english its not my mother language

you can just try to flash another modem if that didn't fix it , i think its problem with your tab or the simcard , did you try another simcard to check whether the problem with it or with the tab ?

no sim card or does´nt read sim card
should anyone find that they have a problem with sim card (not reading) i would strongly advise that you seriously consider that it may well be the conexion in the tab.
it was driving me crazy, but i was determined, and eventually chose to desmantel the device. where i was able to see the false conexion in the sim card holder. i tried to straighten it and it broke off, the next step would be to change the sim card hold which requires soldering (in a fairly delicate place) and i havent got a clue.at the moment i have put a bit of tin foil on the sim card (bridging) so that it connects and it is doing just fine. this post is especially for those who are certain that they have unlocked the carrier network so that they are able to rule out that cause. (sorry about the grammar).
The following post from another forum may be of interest to you in how to reinstall the call app you speak of. The poster is talking about loss of gmail application but it may apply to your situation:
Okay so after I posted this, I talked to one of my software developer friends who is also and Android freak. He told me that any application that linked to google is probably causing the problem. The only application that fit that description was Talk and talk Provider. I extracted the Talk and Talk Provider files from my .zip file, and put them in the "download" folder on the Vibrant's internal memory (NOT THE MICRO SD CARD!). Then I used the Vibrant to access this website: http://www.lysesoft.com/products/andexplorer/index.html and downloaded the "AndExplorer" file manager from the website, NOT the Android Market (remember, my android market was not working). I used AndExplorer File Manager to open and install Talk.apk and TalkProvider.apk. I also reinstalled Swype.apk. Rebooted the phone and VIOLA! Problem fixed.
A coworker of mine found a Captivate on her road the other day. Trying to be a good neighbor, she put up found signs, posted on her community's facebook page, and has tried to answer the phone when people call. However, there is a screen lock (pattern), so she cannot access the address book or anything to try to find the owner.
Being that I'm a Captivate owner, she was asking me to help get info from the phone to help find the owner. If we still can't find the owner, she offered it to me for use for whatever.
Is there a way to read any info off the phone with the screen lock? Could I hook it up to USB and read stuff off the phone? My plan is to see if there's an external SD card that may have something on it. Other than that, if we can't find the owner, I'm supposing that I can just flash with Odin and have a blank Captivate.

The best way to do this will be to turn off the phone, pull out the external sd card, put CWM on it, put the card back in, load up CWM, connect the phone using USB, then mount the internal sd card. You just have to hope they didn't enable encryption at which point you are pretty much stuck wiping it.
I would think that AT&T would be able to find the owner by the IMEI number?
Sent from my Cappy
take it to att like DaveyBB said, and they should be able to read the sim card's number. which then they can find the number's owner and contact them
Put the external sd or sim card in your phone? Heh

My friend brought the Captivate in today. I pulled the SIM and put it into my phone. From there, I was able to see the contacts saved to SIM card and do a couple of reverse phonebook look ups.
The self phone number came up as a restaurant, which I thought was weird, but they also had listed two home phones. One house is right down the street from where my friend lives, so she's going over to return the phone this afternoon.

hello ALL!
i am an AVID android user, and have been using xda for YEARS, even contributed many things to this site, in way of help, mods, and other things, never built roms but worked closely as a tester with some big developers.
recently while riding my bike home from work, i saw a phone scattered in pieces down the street. i picked up all pieces and put back together when i got home, and surprisingly it turned on with no issue, didn't even need to charge battery.
so now, i cannot access it because it has a pin passcode(ive tried all your "run of the mill ones" Plus after a few guesses and then battery dying, , it is NOW telling me I HAVE to WAIT 2680 MINUTES until next attempt....seriously?!?! 2680 MINUTES?!?! THATS NEARLY TWO DAYS!!!!!!
anyways
i need someones help here, i am TRYING to return this device to it's owner, but without a valid passcode to enter, i cannot get into their contacts and try to call anyone they might know in order to return the device.
so if ANYONE knows of a toolkit, or command line thing i can do/use in order to remove/change this pin lock, i would be very grateful.
i DONT want to wipe the device and end up without ANY info on the owner or even anything that might help me return it.
ANY IDEAS ???
I HAD SEEN MENTION OF WINDOWS PHONE RECOVERY KIT
would THAT be useful in this situation?
or basically am i stuck with resetting the phone and HOPING something is left on sdcard that will have info as to the owner of device???

You could try to put the SIM in an other phone, he might have contacts stored on his SIM.
Also same thing with the SD Card but doubt there'll be anything helpful in there.
On WP unfortunately there is no way to remove the lock without doing a hard reset which will wipe everything except the SD Card and contacts on the SIM so it's the same as inserting the SD and SIM in an other phone, better not hard reset it so the owner doesn't loose all he has on there.
I like how you use the word "unfortunately" about there being no way to bypass the one crucial security feature of the phone... The lock screen is there for a reason! If you'd tried messing with my phone that way, it would already have wiped itself.
To the OP, leave it powered on and connected to the Internet, and the owner will be able to find it eventually. The "my Windows Phone" (or whatever it's called now) website allows the owner to get the phone's GPS location, and also to display a message (such as "please email me at <this address> if you found my phone!") on the screen. If they never come for it, then... free phone, I guess? I'm not usually a fan of "finders keepers" but there's no excuse for a WP owner not even trying the existing tools to get the phone back, if they want it back at all.
If you really want to go above and beyond the call of duty, I suppose you could check the SIM from the phone and see what carrier it's for, then call the carrier and see if they have any way to get in touch with the phone's owner...
This has likely long been resolved, but here's what I would do.
Take the SIM, put it in another phone. Check "about" to see what the phone number is. Call that number.
If you get an answer, there's your missing phone's owner with a new phone and SIM card. Let them know you found their phone. No answer, leave voicemail.

Yes you are correct, has been resolved, good tip though thank you, found owner and was told to keep device, they had gotten new one, they don't know how it ended up on side of street, but I ended up giving to someone I had worked with who was in need of an at&t device.
Thank you, and all others, for all assistance.
Ended up that the owner actually knew someone that I was working with at the time, small world huh, funny how it all worked out, was just happy to help everyone out in the end. Was just a funny circle of events that led to the device getting to who has it now.
