[Q] USB Host support? - LG Optimus 2x

AFAIK Tegra 2 should have this function, would that be possible to add this function on 2X?
Some REF:
http://adq.livejournal.com/95689.html
http://code.google.com/p/cyanogenmod/issues/detail?id=1227
Thanks.

I don‘t think it is connected physically in the phone.

USB host if I remember correctly does require a certain hardware cabling, on top of the chip supporting it.
AFAIK wether the Optimus 2X has the capability has not been determined yet. The design guidelines for Tegra2 do support it though...Here's to hoping we can bake it in!

WiiMote and BT keyboard and mouse - do they work?

I've just tested the WiiMote, and I can tell you - no, they don't work. Damn manufacturers modifying their BT stacks to left and right... :-(
Will probably root my phone and test that other WiiMote app that requires root. I'm hopeful for it working. Our phones is the perfect "gaming console" for retro gaming if so ;-)
Oh, what is the Root-requiring app? I've not come accross it...
*off to Google to find out*
EDIT: Ah, found it, still doesn't offer HTC/Samsung support. Shame.
Correction: Lg‘s screwed their bt stack so hard that third party software can‘t use it. its barely usable with sony ericsson liveview

so... when (im in no doubt) we get say Cm or modaco rom could we use a wii mote or bt keyboard or will it still be " locked down"??
It'll work with CM, but I don't think Paul's Modaco ROMS usually change the BT stack, so I wouldn't expect it to work there.
Call lg support regarding this they said that they hadnt heard of the issue yet. The more of us that alert them of this ****ty nonstandard bluetooth the more likely they are too fix it. When i told them how other phones with the same broadcom chip had been "fixed" with third party roms they escalated my ticket. Also please remind them that the hardware is capable of usb on the go and software that supports it is an edge in the market in theese hd days.

I've sent them an email regarding this problem. I'll call them tomorrow too...
We need proper BT drivers!
both bluez ime and gamepro in combination with a zeemote bluetooth controller work fine.
so it's not entirely impossible to work with the optimus 2x bluetooth.
The problem is that the drivers deny low level access to the hw
Btw nice to know other people keep telling lg to fix this

a newb question I guess but I havent got an Android phone yet, this phone will be in my ownage in a couple of weeks :happypanda:
wont this work with this rom? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1014929
@hobs0n: No, won't work
After talking to LG it doesn't really sound they care...
Ah shabby So the only ones that can change the BT stack/drivers are the manufacturer for the phone? like LG, HTC and so on? Does the WII controllers work for other Android phones??
Does anyone have a BGP100-gamepad and knows if that works on our Optimus 2x? As Wiimotes don't work, maybe that gamepad would be usefull... at least with a SNES-gamepad mod it would be perfect for the SNES emu.
Not the BGP-100, but the Zeemote BT Gamepad.
Both are running only with GamePro driver.
The driver freezed while trying to connect with the gamepad.
Even my BT mini keyboard doesn‘t work.
Both were running fine with the Galaxy S.
So at this time there is no way to connect gaming hardware.
And if anyone is thinking about PS3 controller. No it doesn‘t work.
The new GamePro driver is working fine with Zeemote JS1
And has support for further Gamepads:
- iControlPad
- Act Labs Gamepad
The iControlPad is to expensive, but does anyone know the Act Lab Gamepad ?
This is just sad.. !
So there is now way we can hack in a proper USB driver? or do we have to w8 for LG to release one?
I really doubt that LG will release it. After talking to them it doesn't seem they care about the problem at all...
Is this something that might be different on the more stock G2x?

Note ICS now support OTG gamepads?

Google said that the ICS (or honeycomb) will support
generic gamepads via OTG connection and I was curious to know
if the new ICS update on the Note supports it.
People has tested this with the new S3 and it seems that it even support
wii motes and PS3 controllers
http://www.androidnz.net/2012/05/samsung-galaxy-s3-more-secrets-revealed.html
anyone tested this with the note?
What do we do with ps3 controllers on OTG? bluetooth is enough for gaming rite?

I am not sure if GS3 supports PS3 blutooth (with out root method)
I guess not because they share different bluetooth protocol.
and the point is ICS should support OTG gamepads and I wanted to
know if it is working on the ICS updated Note.
Doesn't work. I tried a USB Xbox 360 controller on both the German, and Taiwan official ICS releases.
worked

weired. I just connected my general usb joypad (for computers)
via OTG to my Note and it works.
It doesnt understand the presses though. I think you need a seperate
app to set each buttons. But it does move around the screen and
I can press apps.
What would be cool, is a controller/gamepad that allows you to attach a handset onto the top, avoiding the need for wired/wireless connectivity and at the same time provide a more comfortable gamepad experience.

Atrix + (Xoom kernel + Libs)

Both are Tegra2 devices
Both are using the same Wifi chips
Both are GSM/HSPA devices
Plan of action:
Get Xoom kernel for 2.6.32 (same level as the kernel we've got for Atrix)
Diff the two for platform specific changes
Get Xoom kernel for 4.1.2 release (http://www.xda-developers.com/android/motorola-xoom-gets-stock-rooted-android-4-1-2/)
Put in platform specific changes learned from diff
Then you should have a binary compatible Atrix-fied Xoom kernel, running on the Atrix. Which enables you to
Use Xoom hardware acceleration
Have a propper Project Butter experience
Have a kernel that doesn't run on the compatibility mode of bionic libraries
A more modern and mature Linux kernel (and libs)

Its a good plan, but woudnt the architecture be slightly different?
I really don't know what it means, but it was said very often in the forums:
Xoom = SoC T20
Atrix = SoC AP20h
But I hope that you can do some magic :silly:
Have you actually started this process or is it just a plan you hope will work?
Sent from my MB860 using xda premium
it's not only the cpu and antenna...there is also the camera, fingerprint and imo the resolution of the screen is also important...
so this kernel cannot be used...only some parts of it mabe
If is works, It will be a great dev but
is it possible?

Also, code names for these units:
Xoom = Stingray
Atrix = Olympus
https://android.googlesource.com/kernel/tegra/
Found the kernel source... Seems as though we are capped at 2.6.39, for now.

Finally someone that's thinking in the long term. Barring a kernel source leak from Motorola, this would be a way to go. Sounds like massive coding process though. Are you up to it? Do you have a plan?
Kudos for the idea.
I have XOOM MZ601, because of that I buy Atrix, it's the same machine...this will be great, and also tu put webtop ( I know I am boring, but I have lapdock and I desperately need webtop ):good:

Ok - some history:
I've worked at a mining communications/safety company Becker Mining Systems, for their R&D firm Becker R&D in South Africa.
We've developed an Android VOIP phone for to be used in mining (hazardous, please-don't-make-a-spark) environments. We've succeded, but then Germany practically canned their colleries (hug-a-tree-don't-kill-johnny-polar-bear) - resulting us to stop development 2 months before manufacturing (literally only had to make the moulds). Sigh - the collery overseers DSK was the contracting client.
My job was to get Android running on this Freescale iMX31 based platform. I did the kernel + Wifi + Android + VOIP and a bit of the UI.
Plan of action:
/arch/arm/ is the first point to go looking for things in the kernel. In this case, we'll be looking for /arch/arm/mach-tegra/, this is where all the platform specifics will hide away.
Compare board-olympus.c and board-stingray.c (+ board-olympus.h and board-stingray.h). Look for similarities, look for differences. These are the glue points - in this .c files the startup / fixup / powerup of the platform starts off. See it as the void main(void) file for the platforms.
Adapt the board-stingray.c in such a way that it starts up on the Atrix
After kernel start up, get the peripherals running. This includes UARTS (USB the most common, and debug), SPI (chats to other peripherals), MMC (chats to the WiFi/BT module) and also the screen.
Merge in libraries - we'll probably using the Atrix radio driver file, but the rest (Wifi, OpenGL libs) from the Xoom
If all of this doesn't make sense to you, please press the thank you button and refrain from commenting on this feed
Hmmm... yeah you are the right person for this job :good: :highfive:
I wish you to succeed, you would make lot of people to be really happy !
If you need testers, i'll be right there.
Jokersax already said its possible, in fact, he was using some Xoom binaries that he ported, but he also said that it required a MASSIVE amount of coding, time and skills to get it done.
Hope you can accomplish this dude! Good luck!

yeah well those didn't really make a difference... and we have the libs, only need a supporting kernel.

Indeed, he showed that it was possible.
It might help when nVidia goes opensource with the Tegra drivers, but so far I haven't seen enough details on that to be encouraged yet. I suspect that what we'll see will be either code dropped into nouveau or a separate driver set rather than nVidia opening up their proprietary drivers.
mvniekerk, please join Atrix Re-Birth Project.
We already have libs for Atrix, two leaked rom, closed kernel, useful CM 10 (I'm using it right now), great developers (Epinter, MMontuori, TPoint75...)
With your knowledge and enthusiasm we could go even further and faster.
This can be tested, it's very simple, dd the xoom boot partition to a file, then flash out back to the Atrix. If it passes the boot logo, there is hope...

mvniekerk: If you're serious about this undertaking, I'm sure there would be quite a few willing to donate, including myself.
In fact, I suggested something similar, but using the Galaxy R kernel as base ( http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=32274673, last post on that page). That is a 3.x kernel.

[Q] Controller

Hi Guys,
Is anyone of you aware about any kind of Controller available to play game. I am looking forward to buy 1, also let me know the cost of it.
you can use ps3 bluetooth controller with ICS4.0.3 and CM10.1, i have yet to figure out how to use it with stock JB.

Stock JB does not support the required bluetooth protocols. I didn't get around to checking whether these are supposed to be included in the ROM or in the kernel, but if it is the kernel installing a better kernel could make this possible.
I got the Ipega Bluetooth controller from dx.com for only £16, and it works great so far. It came all the way from china so it took. quite a whike to get here.
If yu use the bluez ime on Stock JB youll be able to use the right thumbstick as it cannot be used by default.
I also recommend ps3 pad it`s the most universal controler at all [computer, ps3, smartphone]. You can even use its analog as a mouse. And the big advantage of it, is sixaxis app where You can map touch screen to work with almost every game. But You have to know that it is not compatible with stock JB rom.
I have these but when i connect them nothing happen.

Nexus head unit with multiple accessories

Hi guys,
I know nexus carputers have been used often and they are a great way to use a tablet, the only thing I haven't seen is an example of someone using multiple accessories. I am looking to use about 3 or 4 accessories...
- dvb-t stick for usb TV and dab aerial
- usb capture card for reverse parking camera
- usb extension for usb drive connectivity
- something else I have forgotten right now lol
Had anyone actually tried to achieve more with their nexus for this type of connectivity, whether got the cat or not?
Not new to android but I am to this level of use and hacking.
To confirm I M using timur usb rom kernel, a y splitter otg, 4 port usb extension with individual Pott switches.
Admin, I appreciate this is similar to my other thread but this is more a poll of seeing what others do, but if you believe it is classed as a double thread I apologise.
