Are you still running the stock ROM? If so, it is worth reflashing!

I ended up getting my money back i couldn't be bothered loosing warenty to only maybe make it a bit faster i think android belongs on phones i haven't tried honey yet as the uk seems to be taking the Michael's with releasing tabs

Probably not worth keeping if you don't want to void the warranty. Samsung really made a mess on the software side of this device with only a few exceptions.

The tab is totally worth keeping if you are willing to root it and install a sweet rom such as overcome. Doing so makes it tremendously more useful and powerful. However, short of that I would agree that the stock firmware sucks ass. I would say that for most stock firmwares though.

I can't say that I agree with this. From my perspective, there was little wrong with the firmware that shipped with my Tab except that the stock browser was extremely laggy, and there was no way to get to full desktop sites like BBC iPlayer.
Yes, the newer JMx builds are much better, but the original one was pretty usable so long as you replaced the browser with something like Dolphin.
Regards,
Dave

Dolphin is ugly i hate the tabs look on it they need to make the u.i nicer more clean

One thing that keep me for selling my Tab is the phone function.
The alternatives would be Streak 5" or 7" but I got this baby first.
About using non-stock ROM, I prefer the other way. Not that I care about warranty, but I don't feel that I need to improve something that already works perfect for me. Just my 2 cents though, because user experience may vary.
ps: You choose Nexus S Great!

Good gift?

Hi folks,
I'm planning to pick this phone for a family member and I was wondering if this phone is still worth getting? I've been reading that there are perhaps some problems with the phone such as reboots, overheating, freezing, etc. Would you say that these are hardware problems or is it a software-level issue?
Also, can you put Launcher Pro on this thing and over-ride LG's UI?
If you think that I should hold off until LG gets their manufacturing lines in order and quality control in place, what other dual-core phone would you recommend that has HDMI?
-Cheers.

Personally i only got one freeze in a week of use, but tbh i wouldn't recommend this smartphone to anyone.
LG has still too much to learn to be competitive with his android smartphones.
Actually this device has a great potential but it's used only in half of it's power imho

Actually there is SGS II, seems better to me, but of course it costs more
why would you NOT reccomend this phone to any1 kite ?
i mean sure, it can be some hassle if your unit has reboots and such, but as far as im concerned, this is the best price to quality(hardware) ratio right now. yea might have to return it if its defective or such, but i dont think its hardware.
personally i WOULD reccomend this phone, but probably not to the casual user, more like to some1 who knows what a ROM is and what does it mean to flash. if some1 likes a simple working phone just get an htc maybe.. heck, even an iphone
i can recommend it for sure, just flash a stable MCR Rom and you´re happy
i didn´t have any reboot or SOD with Modaco FR18b2 yet ...
HDMI out is a great feature
overall speed of this phone is very fine, no need to overclock for daily use, just for benchmarks ... ;-)
i think this phone has a great potential for moderate price
you can run any launcher you want, i also use launcher pro ...

oh yeah, IF you buy this phone.,. just install LauncherPro/ADW Launcher..
that gives it just a little more stability/speed, the LG Launcher is really slow.
Thanks for the input guys. I'm likely to get this phone as a gift if and only if I see the GB-update out first.

Buyer needs advice

Hi guys, I think there is quite an unbelievable offer for Austria Hutchinson users. Basically you get this phone for 69€ on a 20€ x 24 months contract. With the contract you get also 1000 minutes 1000 SMS and Internet unlimited so should be fine. Before I saw that I thought of sticking to my galaxy s for a while.
Now that said I would love to take it as long as the offer lasts, but I am concerned about 3 things:
a) i am a custom Rom user since 2 years. Never been on stock again. And I looooooove cyanogenmod! Do you think there will be custom roms for this?
b) the camera quality. While I'm not too much concerned about the video quality, I use my phone as a compact camera outside to take pictures. So how bad is it in your opinion? And do you think will it improve with upcoming updates?
c) you know something about the possibility of unlocking this phone?
I guess probably I'm asking too much but maybe someone knows better.
Thanks in advance!

It's only an okay camera, there's better, the Galaxy 3 has a better one for instance, not by that much, but clearly. No idea if this is a hardware limitation, but I'd guess so.

No idea ... but I guess with root you should be able to do more or less anything,e specially, once CWM etc are there? But I'm no pro.
We have root and CWM now, devs are working on CM10 and 4.0.4 Sense 4.1, so soon we'll have great ROMs
And i think we'll have unlocked bootloader soon too.
Hey guys,
This phone looks really cool. I was thinking of buying this phone. I want a phone that can get rooted and a lot of ROMs. Do u think Im in the right place?
I have read a lot of reviews and from what I can gather is that this phone is a tad better than the One X and a loses the battle just barely vs the GS3.
What do you guys think? What are the pros and cons of this phone?
Also which is better looking? The white or black model?
Thanks in advance guys!

You shall like the white one. Also, your favorite food is grilled chicken, and you'll only drink root beer. Also, move to Mumbai, which is your favorite city from now on. Any other totally personal decisions you can't make I'm happy to answer, too.
Hey thanks dude!
I was asking because I've never owned anything but Motorola Androids and they have locked bootloaders. Ive never seen this phone in person and the reviews online only show the white one, so I asked here for this awesome community's opinion...
Also I like grilled chicken but prefer steak. Hate root beer, and if I lived anywhere it would be 'MERICA. Ill be sure to visit Mumbai sometime though maybe we can have a beer together.

Is LG policy still suck and unreliable? Since the older models like O2X said to not get ICS!
Yesterday I saw it in the market ,and it has the same price as HOX , I saw some comparison which end by no winner, yet the HOX really has a good support by both the company & xda community ,so from a fear comparison aspect ,which yr choice in case of : screen, camera quality and shutter speed ,video quality(some said its better in the OneX even with has low fps compared to O4X! ), and battery, thx ahead

Personally, I chose the LG because it has exchangable battery and micro SD slot. They both have Tegra 3 and good displays, so it's no big difference hardware-wise. HTC has a large fanbase, so you'll have more custom roms on the HOX, plus the possibility to unlock your bootloader with HTCdev. LG might learn and do something similar, but as they're not open in saying what they do, no one can tell.
I was checking on eBay yesterday cuz I want a LG O4X and saw there was a developer version kinda like the Razr has one too... can anyone confirm this?

Hello all. What about temerature of subject's surface when it's CPU 100% loaded?

Just got a Nexus, have some questions

Hi,
I was really hoping the rumors would have been true and the Nexus 7 2 would have been announced. I was ready to pre-order last week. That didn’t happen so I pulled the trigger on the current Nexus 7. While I'm disappointed that I didn't get to get the brand new one I am VERY happy with it so far. I also got the official Nexus dock and a keyboard case. I have to say the official dock is so great I may buy a 2nd one! It’s overpriced but soooo nice.
Anyway, one thing I want to do right away is be able to get and send SMS texts from my phone on my N7. I have a Droid Razr Maxx by the way. What is the best software to do this?
Is there a free way to turn on the wireless tether on my Razr so I can connect my N7 to it? I also play Ingress and it would be cool to be able to use the N7 for that.
I'm not ready to root and try a custom ROM yet but what are some of the "must have" apps for the N7? Any info would be great!
Thanks

Exactly. I wasn't going to buy the current one until after the big Google announcement. That would just be dumb. But again, I love this device so lets stop talking about "what if" or "when it does come out"... I want to talk about the cool things this one can do.
:cyclops:
Since its brand new, i'd recommend unlocking and rooting right away, just to get that out of the way should you wish to flash stuff later. Better to do it early since unlocking wipes everything and there's little data to keep that early. Having said that, I just finally unlocked/rooted after months of ownership and replacing all the data was trivial. Just a recommendation.
It's a very capable tablet completely stock, I just like tweaking things and the tablet UI is cool IMO.

PSA: Galaxy SII now $199 on HSN

OK I have a birthday tomorrow and as a present I am moving on to the Galaxy SII (yes, it's FINALLY my turn to say that!). $199 was too good to refuse, especially with 4 flexpays of $50. Two years of battling the Exhibit are enough, wouldn't you say? Anyway I will miss the forum around here a bit, even though we've had a number of departures over the past year. If it wasn't for the good folks in this community the Exhibit would have been retired LONG ago for me. Frankly without a custom ROM/kernel it is a POS device. No other way to put it! At least we have one or two new guys on the block to carry on for those who still have this phone or just got it. I wish them luck. As for myself I can't wait to try all the things that are available on XDA for this device. Hope I don't flash more ROMs than I did for the Exhibit or I will have no life left, LOL.
Anyway for those who are interested, go here for the deal: http://www.hsn.com/products/samsung-galaxy-sii-no-contract-smartphone-t-mobile/7334966
A couple months they ran out and just now got these phones back in stock. At that price I bet they don't have them for long.
Good deal. Glad you are getting something you want, it'll be sad to see you go. You've always been helpful, and generously shared your experience with testing and results. So for that thank you.

Thanks man. Unfortunately HSN just raised the price back up to $249, same as they have it on Amazon. Man glad I didn't procrastinate anymore like I always do. Funny thing is I watched the video presentation they did on TV and I'm thinking how many more they could sell if they promoted the fact you can root & get the latest ROMs out there. Of course if they did that people would know they can get rid of that bloatware! Just think of the poor sheep who will just keep stock ICS on it.

I think that rooting is beyond the scope of most people's interest. As it also voids any warranty, the manufacturer would be slightly against HSN promoting the practice, is my guess.

They said 4.0 on the commercial and on the website. A friend of mine has one and it has ICS on it. No matter because it will be rooted and updated when I get it. Question will be whether or not to go with a 4.2.2 rom or KitKat. So many apps need to catch up to ART and the whole 4.4 OS system.
Sent from my Samsung Galaxy Exhibit running AOIP.
Yes. There still needs to be some development before I move to 4.0. I'm very interested, once the system had been around a bit. I don't usually get the x.0 version of any software. To many issues.

BTW if I forgot somebody it wasn't on purpose. Now on to the hard work of rooting and finding a ROM for the new phone. Hopefully I will settle on one or two but if my experience with the Exhibit showed anything it was a penchant for being a fairweather ROM user! I may stop by here every now and then too, afterall I haven't given the Exhibit away to anybody yet.
Lastly if it was one thing I got out of using this phone, it was to appreciate a really good phone once I got it.

hah hah! Congrats sir on the new phone.
I went ahead and plunked some coin for a Nexus 5. It has some sound bugs (some sound is fine with some apps and not others) and the vibration isn't as strong on key presses (but in other areas is fine and a tester app I found shows the vibration motor is fine). Meh, the speed just kicks butt! Also, having 2G of RAM is ..... awesome. The quad core ... anyway .. you get the idea.
I am still thinking of which ROM to put on ... I had cyanogenmod on my other phone and I loved it ... but they're not quite ready.

Slowness/freezing etc

Hey guys, G-925A user here. Can anyone please tell me if I'm the only one experiencing slowness, freezing and overall glitchiness on my s6 edge?
I mean this thing has 3gb of ram right? It should breeze through multitasking, but it just crawls. My g2 and g3 were waaay faster and never froze up as much as this thing does.
Is it touchwiz? Att bloatware? I'm rooted and using titanium backup to freeze as much bloatware as I could find. But it still doesn't work as well or as fast as I believe a phone with these specs should.
Looking for ideas from the community here, should I try cleanrom? Has anyone experienced similar issues and fixed with custom rom?
Thanks in advance guys!!
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G925A using XDA Free mobile app
I have the same phone on ATT. I don't have any freezing or reboots, but after about 2 days without restarting, it gets super slow.
I have used several debloated roms and they help a lot. The S6 partial memory fix helps a little bit, but the phone slows down more in the long term (restarts always help helps).
same experience here. memory fix only lasts so long. phone comes down to a crawl so badly that sometimes i think the phone completely locked up. happens during texting, using FB...pretty much everything. it's starting to get annoying. i love this phone but this is horrible.
Same here. So frustrating. Happened to me the other day that I needed driving directions. My wife pulled out her iphone 5s and asked siri. She had turn by turn before I could even load the gmaps screen. She laughed at me. It hurt. =(
Do a factory reset - it worked WONDERS for me, ever since, my Edge has been super smooth. It's painful, I know, but the thing was so laggy for me I wanted to chuck it hard against a brick wall. Now it's back to what it originally promised! I suspect doing it every 3-4 months is probably going to be a requirements for power users...

Unfortunately that is the norm. Hopefully AT&T will get around to releasing 5.1.1 since the latest update (on T-Mobile, for example) seems to address most of the issues we see like the lag, and battery drain.
Although some of the blame is due to Android 5.0.x, it is primarily Samsung since I have other phones still on 5.0.x (ASUS ZenFone 2, HTC One M9) that do not suffer from the lag.
AT&T bloatware
I think this is due to the mandatory AT&T updates that are pushed on to our devices, because there is a noticeable decrease in performance after OTA updates from AT&T:crying:
Seems like I'm not the only one experiencing this issue. It's sad that this device performs so badly.
I think I'd like to unroot it and actually install the OTA updates, just to see if it works faster. Does anyone know a simple guide to unrooting?
The funny part is that benchmarks still show high scores.

thought i would add something here. I have since sold my 925a and bought a 920t to have ability to use twrp and unlocked bootloader. (insert big middle finger to at&t here). i have installed xtrestolite and have to say the phone runs so much fast than my edge on att with frozen bloatware ever did. no real freezing during multi-tasking, camera still opens quite quick. I mean so much of an improvement, so I would have to say it's got do do with att/carrier software that ruin the customer experience for us. good luck to you all out there. now the wait for xposed begins...
I went the other way. I had a 920t and gave it to my Dad. Picked up a 925a for myself. I'd do anything to have the speed of my original s6 back. I love the edge, but geez does this thing lag.
I gave in and flashed the original os. The device runs significantly better. It seems the themes from Samsung slowed down my phone and caused a lot of issues with the dialer app.

So I finally got so sick and tired of the slowness... decided to flash the XtreStoLite ROM... I am so freaking happy that I did. Not that complicated and it is so much faster!

And back to where I was. My phone runs slow all of a sudden and stutters. On top of that, I've noticed that my battery drains like water out of a tap as soon as I start using it. What the f*** is going on? This is so frustrating.

You probably froze/disabled an app you shouldn't have. The system is stalling because of this.
