Slowness/freezing etc - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S6 Edge

Hey guys, G-925A user here. Can anyone please tell me if I'm the only one experiencing slowness, freezing and overall glitchiness on my s6 edge?
I mean this thing has 3gb of ram right? It should breeze through multitasking, but it just crawls. My g2 and g3 were waaay faster and never froze up as much as this thing does.
Is it touchwiz? Att bloatware? I'm rooted and using titanium backup to freeze as much bloatware as I could find. But it still doesn't work as well or as fast as I believe a phone with these specs should.
Looking for ideas from the community here, should I try cleanrom? Has anyone experienced similar issues and fixed with custom rom?
Thanks in advance guys!!

I have the same phone on ATT. I don't have any freezing or reboots, but after about 2 days without restarting, it gets super slow.
I have used several debloated roms and they help a lot. The S6 partial memory fix helps a little bit, but the phone slows down more in the long term (restarts always help helps).

same experience here. memory fix only lasts so long. phone comes down to a crawl so badly that sometimes i think the phone completely locked up. happens during texting, using FB...pretty much everything. it's starting to get annoying. i love this phone but this is horrible.

Same here. So frustrating. Happened to me the other day that I needed driving directions. My wife pulled out her iphone 5s and asked siri. She had turn by turn before I could even load the gmaps screen. She laughed at me. It hurt. =(

Do a factory reset - it worked WONDERS for me, ever since, my Edge has been super smooth. It's painful, I know, but the thing was so laggy for me I wanted to chuck it hard against a brick wall. Now it's back to what it originally promised! I suspect doing it every 3-4 months is probably going to be a requirements for power users...

Unfortunately that is the norm. Hopefully AT&T will get around to releasing 5.1.1 since the latest update (on T-Mobile, for example) seems to address most of the issues we see like the lag, and battery drain.
Although some of the blame is due to Android 5.0.x, it is primarily Samsung since I have other phones still on 5.0.x (ASUS ZenFone 2, HTC One M9) that do not suffer from the lag.

AT&T bloatware
I think this is due to the mandatory AT&T updates that are pushed on to our devices, because there is a noticeable decrease in performance after OTA updates from AT&T:crying:

Seems like I'm not the only one experiencing this issue. It's sad that this device performs so badly.
I think I'd like to unroot it and actually install the OTA updates, just to see if it works faster. Does anyone know a simple guide to unrooting?
The funny part is that benchmarks still show high scores.

thought i would add something here. I have since sold my 925a and bought a 920t to have ability to use twrp and unlocked bootloader. (insert big middle finger to at&t here). i have installed xtrestolite and have to say the phone runs so much fast than my edge on att with frozen bloatware ever did. no real freezing during multi-tasking, camera still opens quite quick. I mean so much of an improvement, so I would have to say it's got do do with att/carrier software that ruin the customer experience for us. good luck to you all out there. now the wait for xposed begins...

I went the other way. I had a 920t and gave it to my Dad. Picked up a 925a for myself. I'd do anything to have the speed of my original s6 back. I love the edge, but geez does this thing lag.

I gave in and flashed the original os. The device runs significantly better. It seems the themes from Samsung slowed down my phone and caused a lot of issues with the dialer app.

So I finally got so sick and tired of the slowness... decided to flash the XtreStoLite ROM... I am so freaking happy that I did. Not that complicated and it is so much faster!

And back to where I was. My phone runs slow all of a sudden and stutters. On top of that, I've noticed that my battery drains like water out of a tap as soon as I start using it. What the f*** is going on? This is so frustrating.

You probably froze/disabled an app you shouldn't have. The system is stalling because of this.

Samsung Galaxy S true picture

Hi guys,
I have an HTC Desire, i like it and i love it, but i think it lacks on many features as compared to Galaxy S. So here i am guys i want to buy a Galaxy S for my brother, who actually wants a blackberry, i have convinced him that its way better.
So anyone who is using it can tell me how is it as far for contacts and messaging, and other features??
Thanks
to be honest.. Its pretty sh*t.. sorry but 3 days I had it.. Desire is sooo much better!
Galaxy S- buggy OS
laggy
bad battery (very!!)
screen too big to operate with one hand
etc etc thats my experiance with SGS..
I have to disagree with the above poster, I have had the Vibrant (t-mo galaxy s), for a little over a month now, works great. Sure the stock load sucks, but most do ..
Would not be posting on XDA if you did not know about custom roms.
Battery life, depends on what you leave running, I get at least a full day if I don't leave a Shload of things running, mine is rooted and use setcpu to throttle back when not needed ...
GPS issues, some have them some don't, mine, locks in about 30 seconds, and is down to under 10m accuracy.
Voice quality is great, much cleaner than the HD2 I had.
Compared to the Desire which is a good phone, the Screen makes the Galaxy S , a winner, not to mention the touch is super accurate.
Coming from the HD2 I could not say the screen is too big to use one handed ..
It is a very fast phone, it runs smooth with a lot of apps loaded, (on non stock firmware), and although FroYo is not out for it yet, should be coming soon.
Considering I can stand out in almost direct sunlight, and use the phone without squinting at the screen that is a big bonus.
The only thing I could say about the Vibrant variant, is it does feel almost cheap, since the battery cover is plastic, the phone is tough, but just feels too light to be that tough.
As far as contacts and messaging go, it works well, not sure I am thrilled with the TouchWiz, interface that is on top of them, but it works.
thanks for the response, i wont mind more of it.
Thanks

Apparently you didn't have enough time with iT.
Buggy os? You kept it stock huh? Mines running a leaked 2.2 and its fast as sh*t
Laggy? Really? Did you really say that? You kept it stock for sure.
Screen to big? How small are your hands? Oompa lumpa sized? Mine are tiny and I can write just fine with one.
Bad battery? Hell no. This easily lasts me 2 days on one charge before it dies. You just have to train it.

so wait, let me get this straight. What y'all android lovers are saying is that you traded one buggy, laggy OS that requires an unlock and custom ROM to fix, for another???
I tried to help a coworker with his and it is very laggy and had several force closes over about an hour of me playing with it. Several times I had to wait 10-15 seconds for the screen to become responsive again.

[Q] Does anyone NOT have the reboot/crash issues?

Hi,
I'm seriously considering going out and buying this phone but I'm really not sure after seeing all the threads with people saying that they go back to their phone and it's switched off and requires a battery pull.
This seems to be a fairly serious problem but I was just wondering if it is happening to everyone who owns the O2x?
Please let me know if you are unaffected by the problem!

So, how do you get on Rusty, you seem like a very experienced XDA member.. how is the O2X treating you?
i am not the best guy to talk to . i just got the phone used yesterday for very cheap. i figured that if i dont like it, i can sell it for the same money or even make a little more and get the SGS2.
but so far. no crashes/reboots.. been more than 24 hours. using custom rom as well.
i got the phone for 300$. the stickers still on it. i figure if i decide to sell it. i wont lose at all..
so far. i am really loving the phone. i love the UI of LG. but its slow. it laggs. i wonder if there is a custom rom with the LG UI but smooth one.
right now i am on modaco. with 3000 quadrant. if i switch to google launcher. phone is smooth. if i switch to LG one, it laggs a little in the home screen. i tried the Tmobile version 2.3 on my optimus. its super smooth. but i cant make phone calls on it lol.
and i had a screen problem with the cayanogen rom. for some reason my screens dims and go bright on its own.
oh yeah. i also have a screen light leak/bleed. but it doesnt bother me much because the only way i can notice it if the room is dark and i have a black wallpaper.
Mine went slow once on stock, once isn't bad though. The froyo Rom does seem rushed in truth, (I have random battery drains from my Dialer which makes no sense) but I'm sure Gingerbread will have everything sorted.

Pretty well to be honest. I use CM7 nighties (I bought the phone specifically because it was going to be supported by them) so I cannot expect a bug free experience at this early stage.
I am enjoying it though, I came from a Nexus One that had bugger all internal storage and a poor digitizer, so proper multi-touch and 1.5GB spare for apps is fantastic.
The IPS screen is great if you can overlook the associated backlight bleed (it's not just the 2X, look at iOS devices as well, same thing), the GPS chip is excellent, I can get locks in place that my N1 couldn't.
The stock ROM is turd, frankly. It's fast, until you install something, then it becomes unusable for a bit until it's finished with the app... quality coding
fine
i have my lg optimus 2x now for over a month, no problems here.
i stil have the stock rom.
first v10a. no problem
later v10b. no problem
I have had 2 O2x now for litle over a month
one of them has had BSOD and restarts randomly - the other had none, atleast for the first month - but these past days this one has now also rebooted a couple of times.
Both are completely stock - not rooted and not using any custom roms.
Only using a different launcher which do help make the BSOD and Reboots less often.

I been over there as well. Most of the problems on the SGS 2 are either software or can be solved with apps. My O2X had so many problems that I could never use the phone and wifi at the same time. Bleeding, constant reboots/freezes crashes even with Custom ROMs. Since Im in afghanistan now I need a phone that will work not just when it feels like it. I will say that when the O2X was working it was a sweet phone. I just dont see the same problems with the SGS2 and Samsung tends to be better in the service side instead of LG leaving us pissing in the wind waiting for a "possible update" that might fix things or not.
guess i´m a lucky guy, too!
i have no crashes/reboots and absolutely NO backlight bleeding
Mine is also working properly.

Anyone here used V6-Supercharger on their D3?

I'm itching to install it but I'd like to hear from some people who have used it first.
I'd advise against it.
No need, since no weak memory allocation and management like the DX2.
I did it worked had to get correct busybox version couldn't tell if anything really happened but why the avoid krazy?

I didn’t' even execute any options with the script and it cause me to bootloop once I rebooted, and someone else experienced the same.

I figured as much, but I am getting a pretty decent amount of lag, even after fully removing bloatware (about 32 apps total). I don't see how people are claiming 200mb free. Even after bloatware removal, I still only have 80-130 free at any given time, and I personally hate using an app-killer.
Don't get me wrong, I do know that Android will try and use up any memory that is free and that having a low number of RAM available isn't a bad thing. But, as I stated earlier, I am experiencing a good amount of lag from time to time (mainly due to my widgets I would assume).
I did a factory reset and a battery pull 2 days ago, and the boot-up process is twice as fast now...just as it was when I first bought the phone. But the lag is still present, and the REDRAWING is driving me absolutely insane.

not true; v6 is for all android OS released so far. It was specifically developed for Gingerbread, but works well on Froyo also.
BUT: There are still conflicting reports that changes it makes in the /system folder may cause problems with the D3, so until an .sbf is available, i'd proceed with great caution doing ANYTHING to the D3 that is not entirely in userspace.
I removed most of the bloat I was comfortable pulling off... but I must say the biggest jump in responsiveness has been from tweaking the build.prop to increase the events per second (I'm at 120) and VM memory (64m).
Please, err on the side of caution right now as we have no sbf, no clockwork recovery. I had to sbf my D2 enough times playing with things I didn't think had a chance of breaking it, that did, that I'm very careful what I poke at on my daily driver, and urge you to as well

[Q] Is this normal? 3rd day with new nexus 6, what do I do?

Hi, I'm new here, but I've been around for awhile, trying to find someone who has been going through the same stuff as me, and I finally have. My dilemma is this. I just got my nexus 2 days ago, upgrading from the n5. After installing 5.1, rebooting and restoring my apps I began to notice some lag. Like touchwiz type lag I had on my old note 2. And for the life of me I can't find any info on wtf is going wrong. It's the little things that I definitely expect a brand new phone to not do. For instance, when I swipe away running apps, they hang and freeze on the side of the screen. Play music routinely freezes when I try to play an album. Whenever I go from chrome to messenger, or close the app drawer, it lags. To the point that I don't even want to let people check my phone out. It is noticeable. I went back to T-Mobile and they said their diagnostic couldn't find anything, and maybe I was just too critical, but I'm not happy with this performance. I'm not rooted, just running apex launcher, animations turned down, no 3rd party apps, and it's not right. My question is, what do I do? I've got a week left on my grace period, does this sound like a faulty phone? Please help. I honestly don't want a different phone, just a "blazing fast, lag free nexus" as so many of you declare you have. I'm probably gonna have to shell out 50 more dollars for a restocking fee, and if I do and find that this is just the performance I can expect from the nexus I'm gonna be screwed. I hope you guys can point me in e right direction, because it seems like for most everyone 5.1 addressed all the encryption lag and stuff. Yet my fresh out the box device is as bad as my n5 was. Thanks in advance.
I also notice the lag when closing running apps and also in Play Music but not when closing the app drawer. My nexus 6 also gets pretty warm.
I think its an issue with android 5.1 and will be fixed in the next update hopefully.

I can't say I've noticed any lag or freezing, but there again I've been running a custom rom/kernel since day one. I suppose you could scale down animations to help any lag.
My phone only gets hot when turbo charging, as does every turbo charge phone.
Yeah the heat issue is not a big worry for me, but I'm just trying to figure out if my expectations were inflated or if there is something wrong with my device. As it stands now, I could not in good conscience pay 700 bucks for this device. I am a mailman, so I use my phone all day for music, directions, calls etc. And I'm out there moving quickly, I can't spend the time standing around waiting for maps to load, or play music to load up the beast mode playlist And what not. With my n5, OK Google and wired skullcandys I had full command until lollipop screwed it up. When you guys say you see No lag, do you seriously mean when you swipe away apps they just fly off the screen full speed and liquid smooth? I wish

try factory resetting from the stock recovery.
I have had my Nexus 6 from Verizon for a month. I am stock with Nova launcher. No lag anywhere at all... I use play music all day at work and I swipe the apps to close the programs a few times a day. Never have I seen them stick to the side for a moment. I have have my phone seem to lockup a few times but a reset always makes everything okay again.

Kill the 3rd party launcher, that can definitely be a source of problems like you are describing.
Second, root, kill the encryption, format data partition (to actually remove the crypto), restart. The encryption in 5.1 is *STILL* swcrypto, and will definitely cause slowdowns, increases memory consumption, and is just downright miserable.
you got to try things out. different software is not all the same.
Do any of your apps have accessbility access? I have been experiencing similar symptoms to yours, there's a video showing what it does to animations in the thread I made asking if anyone else experiences this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6/help/ui-stuttering-caused-accessibility-t3088343
Try turning off all accessibility access permissions and see if it goes away.

Man I wish it was as simple as you make it seem. To me that sounded like if I said I want an 11 second car, and you're like, well just swap in an rb, port and polish, bigger turbo's, etc. Haha its not that easy I think. I've always wanted to try root, but I was afraid to brick it up. If I've decided to pay the restocking fee anyway to get a new nexus, would it be unwise to try rooting now?
So I'm still having this problem, and unfortunately I have been unable to find any explanation for why this micro stutter exists. I think I have to return this phone but tomorrow might or forever hold my peace. I'D really appreciate any insight available as to why a brand new flagship caliber nexus would have micro stutter that I can't fix.
Thanks guys
.just bummed cause there is no other worthy phone at the right size besides the nexus. But I can't pay for a glitchy device.
Sad but hopefully an update will fix it soon

To me that sounded like if I said I want an 11 second car, and you're like, well just swap in an rb, port and polish, bigger turbo's, etc. Haha its not that easy I think. I've always wanted to try root, but I was afraid to brick it up. If I've decided to pay the restocking fee anyway to get a new nexus, would it be unwise to try rooting now?

If you havent traded it in yet... did you try the factory reset? Definitely remove apex, try the phone with stock launcher, then with nova. If that doesnt work for you, I would root (make sure you study and learn) and install a custom ROM. I'm currently running AISP, its the best ROM Ive ran so far on my nexus 6 Good Luck bud.
As soon as I got mine, I turned off encryption and minimized animations and had no problems. Now I'm running a custom rom, and still no problems. Fast as #&%@.
encryption is not the issue

I wanted to thank all you guys that posted, I appreciate it. So I went ahead and restarted in safe mode and realized the problem lay with one of my apps, or running alot of zooper widgets and not factoring that into account when judging the speed of animations. Anyhow, I havent identified a particular app that was causing the problem, but it has gotten better now that Ive cooled it with zooper. Still love this phone, glad I didnt trade it in for a smaller s6 or old g3, next step, learning what im supposed to do once Ive rooted this phone.

No need to root.

This might be the first phone I leave stock. I do miss xposed on my htc, but aside from that. I don't see any reason to root. Am I the only one with similar feelings?

Glad that you mentioned this. Whenever I switch between apps and go back into chrome. The page I was viewing has to reload. How is this fixed via root?

So... you have to make changes to the build.xxx file? Are all phones affected by this ram issue? I haven't experienced any issues with apps crashing or lagging.

Honestly other than debloating, I could have left it stock as well.
I have incredibly itchy fingers though If I'm not messing with something that can turn my phone into a paperweight, I'm not having fun. Even the ram management stock wasn't noticeable to me. The Tmobile bloat is horrible, and I love loading ROMs and screwing with stuff I shouldn't be for the sake of the community.
LMT pie, adaway, custom roms, alliance framework, volume warning removal, de bloating, viper4android, etc... Root is always necessary.

You are not missing much by not rooting. Nothing out there anyways. Most bloat can be disabled. No fix for ram issues. Only samsung can fix it if they want.

Stock since April 10th ram management isn't a huge issue for me. First phone ever not rooted. I'm satisfied.
Launched from my?T-Mobile Galaxy S6 ? 5.1.1 ?

Agree, you won't miss much by not rooting. I have disabled most of the bloat which are allowed to be disabled. I can switch between apps without any issues. I got a replacement device last week because the previous one will just turn off itself even if the battery is charged. the "new" (Actually is seems refurbished) works well so far. I have repeated the same process on disabling the unwanted apps, turning off wifi calling and VoLTE, screen on auto brightness, all the usual stuff. Battery life is not great, but can last a working day with moderate usage. If you are on the road, and use camera, maps, then battery drains quickly. If t-mobile network is poor where you are( which is a not unusal), battery will drain even quicker.
T version has to many app from stock... Almost 1.5gb of trash stuff.

I semi-bricked my phone and haven't been rooted since bringing it back to life. The only thing I truly miss is AdAway. It's been years since I had to browse the web without an ad blocker and I feel like they've turned up the onslaught ten fold.
Not bad at all.

I wouldn't root either, but I hate ads, ad-away is a must for me. Adguard and all those work when browsing but not in apps. Until then I will stick to 5.0.2 with root. If anyone knows of a alternative for ad blocking like ad-away does, please let me know.
I need root. Few reasons. Debloating, ViperFX and volume button skip mod (whenever we get one)
Also really really hoping official Cyanogenmod makes it to this phone. I miss AOSP with all my heart.

It's too damn big lol plus I prefer Samsung software. The S4 was perfect because of Google's GPE program. But since that's dead the best I can hope for is that sooner or later CM will come to the S6.
