some questions for a newbie - Nook Color General

Thanks in advance
this is my second post on the forums here. i am having issues navigating these forums. i see there is a wealth of help here , but i cant seem to find what im looking for..
question 1 :
where can i find a link to all these cool roms im reading on ex: froyo, honeycomb ect.., and also a link to clockworks recovery...internal type stuff and sd bootable stuff
reason im looking to copy all into a folder on my pc so i have them at any given time i wish to do a cool thing to my device..
Question 2 :
can i , after getting said files , make a clockwork recovery and place multiple install zips on the same sd card
ex:
clockwork recovery burned img with, HC zip , Froyo zip , cm7 nighly zip ect.. -- so i can boot into recovery and then load file of my choice..
Question 3 :
also the unroot method for the auto nooter of 1.1.0 is that the same as all the others i have seen online ?
currently im rooted 1.1.0 at some point ill unroot to take the update that is supposed to be coming out then ill reroot and start flashing away.. i just wanna make sure i have all the file i may need on hand ...
i have an 8 gig class 4 card to work with
again thanks in advance,
Cary

ok i downloaded rom manager and installed recovery is this installed to the internal memory and will it disappear if i flash a internal memory rom or is it usally built in to the new roms as well
still need other questions answered
thanks

[Q] Two Simple questions!

Hey Everyone, first off. I love you all. You've made me LOVE my Vibrant and NookColor more than ever!
I have two questions.. (sry my search on the site wasn't working )
1. I had a 4gb microsd card that I used to put the Autonooter for NC on it. Now I'm seeing alot of updates with froyo and overclocking kernels and I want to try them out. But my 4gb card is frozen solid at 32mb, I tried formating a through windows, I read on another post that I cant find at all that theres a better program out there for fully formatting microsd cards back to the original state.. Does anyone know the program?
2. I've been reading daily on the updates for Froyo, Which one is the current most stable version?
----
Thanks!!!
<3
1. Put the uSD card back into your NC. Under the original (BN) Settings ---> Device Info ---> SD card : first unmount the uSD card, then format it. Then remove from NC.
2. Not my thing, no help, sorry.
Thanks for the help on the SD Card! First step done, alot more to go!
Okay, So I installed Clockwork Recovery and made a backup of my system. After I installed clockwork, My nook froze at boot, I figured out how to get into clockwork recovery and I am currently restoring my eclair.
I see alot of people using froyo, which build and what post did everyone do it from? I see alot of eMMC but I see a Development build.. I'm confused as to which one I should get.
Thanks!

[Q] root/rom question

now I realize I'll prolly get the lynch mob soon after i post this... being that all the research is over in the dev section, but my question is fairly complicated and i cant seem to find a direct answer from my own reading.
now i have root on my NC and i would love to put a custom recovery/rom on my NC. could any one point me in the right direction to get me started loading a custom recovery? i dont want to run froyo off of an SD card i would love to have it just be a giant version of my phone(I'm sorry if that's asking to much)
i learned and pushed myself to do it a while back on my EVO 4g when i saw there was a rom with wimax capability's and that was my first time rooting anything. I do on the other hand work as a sprint instore service and repair tech. so all of this reading isnt completely lost on me.
and my second question. when i booted my nook back up after i let the battery die, all my setting and apps were gone. any one know anything about it?
thank you for any answer, and I'm very sorry about my spelling and grammar, i know it sucks >.<
i think my biggest confusion/hangup so far has been the custom recovery not sure if i have this right or not but. these are the steps (i think) i need to take.
1. aquire root. [check]
2.custom recovery.[?]
3.custom kernel.[?]
4. custom rom.[?]
So what you want to do is flash a custom rom? You would just download a CWM sd card image. Burn that image to your SD card. Then, grab the rom you want, such as nookie-froyo, or whatever. Copy that zip to the SD card.
Put the SD card into your nook, then reboot. It should boot into CWR and from there you can just flash the zip. The same thing with a custom kernel, just copy the zip onto your CWM sd card, reboot, and flash the zip.
I'm not sure if that is what you are asking, though.
I've actually figured it all out finally. is there any way to see what my CPU is running at?
The speed of your NC can be done by downloading 2 free apps in the market:
Linpack for Android
Quadrant Standard
The Linpack app will tell you how many MFLOPS (Millions of Floating Point Operations Per Second) and Quadrant will give you a score to benchmark for CPU, I/O, and graphics. They will also give you as a reference how you compare to other devices.

So I'm new to Nook. In fact it's still being shipped for the wife, lol. Little that she knows, it's getting nootered before it even gets in her hands.
I've rooted phones and flashed custom ROMs.
From what you're saying above, does CWM reside solely on the SD card? That's different than a mobile phone. So any time we need to install a custom ROM (even the first time), we'd have to boot using the SD Card that has CWM, right? Of course I'd have to root the nook first.
following should really go into a different thread:
So whats the best ROM? So many out there. I just want to be able to use all google apps and market (for kindle app).
Thanks in advance.

You can still install Clockwork from the market and it'll run of the NC without an SD card. I've done it. But for the installation of CM7 (something to do with EXT4? I don't even know what that means...) CWM on an SD was necessary.
On what the best ROM is. Well, looking in the general section subsection here it looks like a lot of people are on rooted stock 1.1. I tried Froyo and it was cool and all, but I missed having the full 8GB of storage on the nook. I haven't tried Honeycomb yet, so no idea on that one. I currently have CM7 nightly 8 on my NC and really like it. I may not have all the storage space still (they're working on it) but it's snappy and sleek.

rooting help

I ORDERED MY NOOK TODAY!!! So ive been stalking the nook dev forums for about a week and have some questions. i have a rooted hero running GB, but i used a one click root. I dont really know any ADB commands or how to use it, but i can do a bit of work in the terminal emulator, like flashing diffrent recoveries. ive also played around in the build.prop on the hero. But on the hero everything is just putting zips on the SD card and flashing them in recovery. Now with the nook ive gathered that there are 2 diffrent ways to run a ROM, one way is to "burn" a rom to the sd and it will boot from there. the other way is to flash it to the eMMc which is internal memory correct? my questions are
1)once i "burn" a rom to the sd can i use the internal storage to save apps? where do the apps save if im running a rom off the SD??
2) when you flash a rom to the emmc do you just drop the zip on the root of the sd and flash it through recovery like i would on the hero? or do i have to "burn" it to the SD then flash it from there?
3) i would assume when i want gapps on a rom running on emmc i can just put a gapps zip on the root of the sd and flash it through clockwork. but how do i get gapps if im running a rom off the sd card. this is my biggest concern!
Also we should keep up on the wiki, we have one for GB on the HeroC page and it ROCKS! its full of workarounds and tips and tricks and how to's, keeps the DEV threads from gitting clogged with questions like ^^^^^the 3 im asking
like i said i definatally looked around and did some searching on here and phandroid forums, this is just where im confused. If any one has answers for me i would really appreciate it. also links to really important workarounds would be great.

(q) (neeed helppp!) please! :(

Hello, just wanted to discuss a quick issue im having with my Samsung Captivate.
So its been about a few weeks since ive been on Phoenix's latest rom (js8). Ive been having the urge to go on to a gingerbread rom so i clicked on to the installation steps on how to flash the latest Miui rom (1.5.6 RC8b) So i finished the first step which was step 4 (since 2.2 roms start out at step 4) On the second step after i finished formating everything and going to Flash Miui RC2.zip. I noticed i put the Miui RC2.zip and RC8b file on my External SD card and not my internal SD. I cant flash the Miui RC2.zip file because my phone wont locate it in the Install From Zip option. Im pretty much stuck in the Orange Clockwork Mod recovery now. The other thing that sucks is i cant mount my phone (usb wise) to try and move the files back into my internal SD so i can download the files to continue on to the next step. I really need help! seriously. Ive already tried moving the files in Android/ music folders/ data/ in my external SD card, but the phone wont recognize it in those folders. Really need help please! I dont want to stay in recovery forever!! :/
the DEV are isnt the place to ask for help!
use CWM
mounts and storage> mount USB
copy files from pc to X:/sdcard/ this time!!!!
flash it.
next time post QUESTIONS IN QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
next time post QUESTIONS IN QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Download Odin one click and go back to stock (2.1), then go back to the MIUI page and start at step one.
and what does
"Ive already tried moving the files in Android/ music folders/ data/ in my external SD card, but the phone wont recognize it in those folders."
have anthing to do with your problem?
music? huh
you are flashing a rom
roms can only be flashed from internal sd card.
from sdcard folder or below. not above
I'm just in big need of help, ill remember next time not too. If you didn't read it all, i said that i couldn't get it to work using mount storage/ mount usb. My computer isn't recognizing the device , and i have my Samsung drivers on my computer, so idk why its not working.
I was just saying to see if i could at least make it possible, and i found it out it couldnt. I cant get it back in my internal SD directory.
fuhhhhhhhhhh* i really have to go back to 2.1? i guess i have no choice :/
You could also set you phone to download mode and Odin whatever tom and kernel you like. Miui is still beta, I suggest you use either stock GB or the other custom ROM.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA App
Thanks for the suggestions killer! to everyone else, i went back to mount usb/ like TR told me to do, i restarted my computer and plug it in usb and it worked, put files back and flashed, im on miui, thanks for the help and the suggestions!

Re-“Stocking” system

Hello everyone, I am new on forum and this help urgently so I have to ask this here..
I was updating to gingerbread following this tut and had problems with last step which is "Re-“Stocking” Yer System…". The actual problem is that I transfer my .zip to tab and later in Recovery mode I can't find it "“install zip from sdcard”.
Is there any other way to do this or where's the problem cuz I am pretty sure I know that I've put file there lol
Did you put the zip on internal or external?
Why dont you just use odin/heidmill to flash the stock gb

First step is "install zip from sd card" then "choose zip from sd card". in the last step even if it is on the external sd you will be able to find it. Done several times with the zip on a folder I created on the external sd called downloaded.

It's on internal and I see other folders (like on PC) there but no sign of my .zip ...
It's my first touch with Android so I am not sure what do u mean by that
EDIT: Sorry guys for bothering u for such a stupid thing, I found out what the problems was.. It wasn't .zip file, it was .rar... Ah, I really shouldn't do such things tired at night. Thanks guys anyway, from now on I'll look better
