I bought a milestone, now what?

hey guys...
I had a MOTOROLA CLIQ (Android too, 2.1), but sold it and now i have a milestone and i have some questions...
what´s the best rom for milestone out there? (with froyo, and i prefer a rom that i have more battery life)
there´s a way to put FMRADIO in it?
what´s the best way to root?
what else i need to know? hehe
thanks guys...
Welcome to this corner of xda Now, to answer your questions...
There's no such thing as a 'best rom'. This is xda - you need to get down and dirty instead of playing in the kiddy pool. That means you need to download different roms and play around with them - ou have to answer the "now what?" question yourself.
All Froyo roms should be classified as potentially dangerous - that is, unstable, power hungry, and slow. Do not expect miracles, even when Motorola release the official 2.2.1 version next year (!!!). For someone like you, the best rom seems to be stock 2.1 (stable, sips on power...).
I use CM6 myself.
If you're planning to have Froyo simply because of Flash, you're in for a miserable, miserable ride. Flash contents on phones are slow, stuttery, and generally hopeless. It works if you need a quickie Flash access on the go though.
No FM radio. I'm not sure if the hardware is capable of this. If it is, feel free to correct me
The best way to root is stickied smack at the top of the board. I'm not sure how you missed it, but here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=698059. There are also millions of guides on this forum. If possible, please search around a bit first
Oh yeah, I forgot...
Congrats on getting a Milestone! Now get rid of it for something that's not from Motorola - this is the best advice I can give you
lol...
it´s not that easy.. i´m from brazil... and believe me... the best cell i can purchase here it´s milestone...
i found like 3 ways to root this phone.. i just asked the easier one xD....
thanks for the tips about froyo... will flash CM6 to test...
about the fmradio:
(can´t post links yet(need more posts)... but milestone have a radio receiver/transmitter.. but dont think that someone got it to work)
thanks man
cya
I'm sure you'll like your phone once you have it set to your needs. I've been looking to flash to 2.2 myself, though flash support and the ability to accept/deny exchange events are my only reasons to do so.
I'm running launcher pro with multicon, android agenda widget, task list widget, turtlephotoframes, weather and toggle widget, hidden notification bar by default, empty app drawer.. Launcher pro dock gesture actions to unhide/hide notification bar and bring it down. Remote desk to my home pc, ad free wikipedia access, flixster movies app, connectbot for telnet and ssh, ping app, tricorder.. It's an information power house! Yeah i've had no problem with the phone, beyond battery life cause i'm on it so much lol! A rom with better life and an extended battery are my ideas. Maybe even just rooted 2.1 rom until a 2.2 really pulls ahead or something.

[Q] Quick ROM Recommendation

I am about to flash my first ROM and looking for quick recommendations on a good ROM.
Speed is more important than battery life, and apart from that do have any other specific requirements
Mine.

No one can give you an objective answer. And this belongs in Q&A.
I don't need anything too specialized yet. Just something recent & popular & widely used. ie the top favourites around here.
Thanks. Will take a look at yours. Are they some of the most popular around here?

Take a look at Doc's. Fastest interface and best GPS I've ever had. Plus you can easily customize your own rom using the online kitchen

Serendipity 2.0 is THE best ROM out there as far as speed goes imo.
It will EAT your battery up though since it's oc'ed. I haven't experienced to bad but I can tell with just a lil bit more usage it would drain quick.
I would wait for Firefly (few hours till released) and try that. It's going to be fast, smooth, and perfect without being oc'ed. Will also have great battery life and GPS will work for sure. My friend told me this; he has the beta. Lol
Assonance.

I'll eat my USB cable the day we get a ROM like that.
Thanks guys. That has given me feel for what is popular at the moment.
Now I just need to work out if I can flash a ROM without access to Winblows.

lmao! Thats something I'd almost be willing to pay to see!
Darkys v8!
Extremely stable, very fast, GPS is decent, battery life is *meh* i get about 12-13 hours on heavy to moderate usage but I charge it on my way home from work in the car.
Gingerbread themed, a lot of customation, very active developer, updates come out very easy to install ect.
Just my 2 cents
My recommendation is to become an addict and try them all.

LOL. That's the fun part. What's the fun in plating it safe and not trying new thing. If you're gonna do that you might as well get an iPhone

Official ARM. Project Thread

Hello O2X Community,
I am here to announce ARM. which will be on your device! This thread is for you to discuss about which ever kernel specific features you want. Of course, here are the ARM. specific features that will be included:
- Based Official CyanogenMod Sources with ICS Drop
- Dimmed LED for more Battery Life
- Undervolted clock rates for more battery savings
- Deep sleep surpasses minimal clock rate for further sleep savings to increase battery life
- Optional Overclock for performance
- Minor GPU Overclock without increasing battery drain
- Maximum minimum brightness to save battery at night
- Various Phone hardware modules undervolted for more battery life
Compatible with all CM10 Based ROMs
Seeing all of those features, it means that we aim for Power and Performance
Please discuss about how you want us to work on the kernel. Note that a Stock ICS version will be developed after the CM's final version/build.
Note that we do not accept bugs posted right to the thread. Submit it to the github instead.
Github
hey, thanks for your work guys!
here's a list of features i miss from old GB kernels:
- a cpu governor that will disable the 2nd core when the screen is off (basically the hotplug governor main feature applied to interactive/conservative ones)
- a way to let us choose at wich frequency and after how many seconds the 2nd core should turn on and off
- simple i/o (SIO) scheduler
- a slightly ram overclock
- ramhack if possible 0-32-48-64(-80-96)MB (i think it's not atm?)
- every other specific and/or general tweak you can think of
ps: should you open a parallel thread in the dev section?
Make the led light as a notification light
When can we expect these to see running on our phone
Sent from my LG-P990 using Tapatalk 2
Ok. Whatever is said is said, but of course, hotplug wilk be joining in, and pegasusd, since its another power saving governor for dual cores. And RAM hacks are not applicable for ARM.
About tweaks, they will be added.(Of course)
Lastly, I want you to know that its scheduled for January. But I will try my best to complete by New Year's Eve. Lastly, I am finding another developer to maintain this device. Please PM.

this here sounds very interesting to be honest nicholaschw and i would like to see everything u wrote down for this phone bcs if it can also help extend battery life that would be awesome while boosting it, bcs i still don't feel this phone is out of date, bcs u still got dual-core processor and a nvidia graphic chip that can still do good and play 1080p through hdmi ^^
Great announcement,looking forward to.
+1
Lets just say harsh is a dev. If you are, PM me asap. This is because i want two maintainers at the same time (1 of them is me) because i have to see to other phones also.
I assure you i will work on this fully.
Optimus black, your near partner is nearing final release. Once its done, you will expect my full concentration to o2x.
I hope i enjoy deving here. report bugs as soon as a new release is out. that way, your stable ARM. will be here in no time!
Final member needed, Alpha tester, required to be online when i am and must be skype-able. This tester tests each and every build. He must be well versed in exiting soft brick as fast as possible
USB OTG is too much work? I dont know if it can be ported from others Tegra2 devices.
Waiting for this!!!
is there any developer visiting general section i think no developer see this interesting project that nicholas starting

Welcome over to the O2x nicholas,
with Tonyp and hopefully Harsh being here too, we'll see a solid kernel in no time.
thanks for your help and interest, this is going to be awesome!
to add to list of possible features,
not very important, but its nice to have. a option to change the HDMI output. having it working automatically is great. but sometimes i'd like to chose what size a Screen im watching. .. this may be a feature in the rom more so than the kernel im not sure. =P
Tony, i sure will be commiting to CM if i can Now, if you can please help us, PM me, i will add you into git to push. Please inform harsh also
Ok. The timeline has been planned with my team. We will schedule our first build and commit this coming week, and, once we reach a stable build, we move on to a kernel controlling app. Note that before the app is out, you can use AOKP (must be based off CM) to control voltage and etc.
Its almost here. Get ready.

Waiting waiting waiting!!!
Second the USB OTG support, even if it disables the SD card temporarily.
Some descriptions with the options, some users (including me) have no clue what some of the options actually mean.
A "nitros widget" like CPU boost would be great, to enable a different CPU profile easily.
Ok. Heres the deal to my favourite community. The reason why i picked O2X, because i can see potential Ok, the Thread i will be creating will include how to use some features of the kernel. This allows newbies to also use the kernel.
Developers i need your help too. Any thing you want me to do, post here! Non devs, tell me kernel bugs in CM, i try to help aremcee!
Currently main bug in cm is call audio bug.
Arcee is already working on that, but if you solve it, it will be very helpful to boost this forum. Other bug is slow charging..
And we have another bug called BSOD.
Gesendet von meinem LGP990 mit CM10.

FIRMWARE WHICH YOU? I have b133 my phone and b136 phone of my wyfe
I'm using b136a firmware... my battery lasts much longer since i installed this mod.
Does anybody know if Xtweaks wich is similar to this Lspeed is still worth a try?
It used to be the best but as the last update is from august 2014 i dont know if it still works with newer versions of droid.
Would apreciate any opinion about
how is it?
It gives you lots of options to improve performance, user experience and fix some bugs... in a very simple way, all together in a single app... give it a go...
I have tested it but not great deals at all.
Battery drains more or less the same.

Custom ROM's but which one?

Hello everyone, which custom ROM is the most feature rich for the Pixel 4 XL? And which ROM do you personally use/prefer as a daily driver? I have been using DU since 14.4 to 14.6 but am thinking of trying other ROM's. This ROM is by far what everyone said it was, stable, great SOT, excellent features, etc. I mean, basically the best experience I've had next to kirisakura kernel on stock. But I would like even more features/customizations and was hoping their might be another ROM with more options to choose from. I would like an honest review from people that use other Pixel ROM's before I make my decision. I love DU's ROM but would like to know about someone else's experience on AOSIP, PixelDust, and the like. The more anyone can rant about these ROM's and give a review, the better for me. Thank you to anyone in advance willing to type something up.
I'm currently using PixelDust-CAF (PD), but I've also used DU for months. Both are great roms and very smooth so I don't have much to complain about. This is not going to be a thorough review b/c I don't remember all the specific gripes I had. One thing comes to mind.... I like to center the clock rather than the default left justified. PD has this feature but DU doesnt. However, I'm noticing that every so often, PD would switch back to clock left even when the setting says it's centered. Then I'd have to reboot the phone to 'resolve' it. Nowadays I leave all the rom customizations to default and tweak the customizations from GravityBox instead. (GravityBox lets me center the clock as well without any issues. It also has most of the customizations that PD and DU offers ... at least from what I can tell).
For a time, I used stock rom with GravityBox but I do notice that everything seems faster and smoother on DU and PD.
I've read comments from others that DU support team is rude or not as friendly, but I've never had to contact them for support so I don't know if it's true or not. Whereas..... PD support seem to be friendly and more eager to help. They've helped me with PD issues in the past. Also, in the past when DU was not on xda, there were no instructions posted on how to install it and no xda-type forum to easily get assistance for DU. I haven't used DU since they posted to xda though, so maybe things have improved. Contrast this with PD which has been on xda for a long time, so you may be able to find more detailed information or tips/answers for issues you may encounter.
