Hey all,
I was bring back a Diamond from death, it was stuck at Smart Mobility Screen.
Now its alive, i have tried over 5 different ROM's 6.1, and 6.5 too, but whenever i try to turn on WiFi either BlueTooth, its just start thinking, then remain off.
Nothing happens.
Is this a ROM Bug or what?
Where can i find an original HTC ROM for it, which should be working fine?
Thanks in advance.

with WiFi OnDemand HTC by Krocher will allow the phone to activate and connect to the WLAN first and use it instead of connecting directly to the GPRS/3G. In cases when there is no Wi defined / known - Fi is found, the phone will connect to GPRS/3G. There ` s no need to disable your Wi - Fi, then it will turn off after a while the device is suspended.
Same problem over here.
A couple of days ago, I tried connecting to my home network, the way I always do, only to see the Wi-Fi icon on the top bar show up for only a few seconds, and then disappear (I was connected to the same network an hour earlier, and everything worked flawlessly). A few attempts later, it even stopped showing the icon. In addition to that, I lost the (Windows default) network list tab (Settings > Connections > Wi-Fi > Wireless Networks opens the network adapter list ('Configure Network Adapters')). After that, I tried soft resetting, hard resetting, then changing ROMs (MTTY step included), to no avail. Last night, miraculously, it started working. Now it's dead, again.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
EDIT #1: This video sums it up: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_jQc1JRGQI
EDIT #2: A couple of possible culprits:
1) Loose antenna/cable as in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=846650
2) Erased EEPROM; possible solution: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=597195 (in my case, I doubt it's this one, as everything was fine both last night and this morning)
I can not turn it on at all.
Can't get it turned on ever.
When i click "ON" the icon starts spinning the wifi remain off.
I did updated the ROM,and Radio too, tried over 10 versions, and no success.
I will also get an error message sometimes "We're Sorry, device.exe stopped working" or so..
So my problem is not that.
same problem
any ideas ?

I have not been able to turn on wifi reliably for ages now - It all started when I upgraded to WM5. Now (even if I downgrade to wm2003se) I cannot turn it on. I press the wifi on button, the cursor comes up but nothing happens), leave it for a couple of hours, and then press again - it will sometimes turn on. It then stays on for about 30 mins, and turns off (I have the wifi set to never turn off).
I cannot diagnose the problem - can you?
Any help GREATLY appreciated - feel free to ask for more details.

I have exactly the same problem with Xplode's WM5 Rom. My solution is to perform a soft reset and turn it on then which (mostly) works. I would love to find the answer to this one as it is annoying ...
If you're using the conn manager to turn on the wifi that probably won't work. Try going to wireless properties and turn on the wifi from there. It works for me.

I've the same problem too, very annoying...
It's well documented in baniaczek's latest WM5 ROM. You all would've known if you took the time to read throughly.
Turn on WiFi: Do it only once after soft reset. This procedure will load WiFi driver into system drivers. Start Comm Manager. Select from menu: Settings/WLANsettings. Tap "Turn on WLAN". If there are any WiFi networks available - device will try to connect to. Provide proper parameters (network name, authentication, encryption, keys etc). Probably device would not connect. Go back to "Comm Manager". Turn WiFi off. Since that use only Comm Manager to turn WiFi on and off. There is easy way to recognize if it is required to load WiFi driver, or it is enough to turn on. Look at todays wireless plugin. If there is listed WiFi in any state - there is no need to load driver tapping "Turn on WLAN". Resolving this issue is not easy. If you are interested - read this: http://www.teksoftco.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=194

Yes, I have tried this, but there is no WiFi in any state in my today screen. I have tried downloading the program from teksoftco.com, but it only works to turn bluetooth/phone on and off.
I cannot turn WiFi on and off by following baniaczek's tutorial. He says that "Resolving this problem is not easy", but does not go into it. Can you provide more info?

Guys,
I don't know if this is actually a cure yet, but it seems to have worked on my first attempt.
First the background...
When I first got my Kaiser (UK Orange Tytn II) I was at work, I quickly enabled the wifi and all was well. When I got back home later that day I really struggled to get a connection to my access point at home. I connect to a Cisco aironet in both locations (I know there is a post about cisco extensions but I know that is not my problem as I can and have connected to both APs on at least one occasion with no problem).
After deleting wireless settings and a few soft resets I was able to connect at home. I managed to use that wifi connection all night without a problem. Getting back into the office the next day resulted in the same problems connecting to the office access point.
The AP is visible and is 'Available' but doesn't connect automatically. I tried to establish the connection manually, the phone shows the AP as 'Connecting' but shortly after goes back to 'Available'.
I've tried flashing different roms and radios but to no avail.
Last night I got to thinking that I generally connect to my AP, browse the web, sync mail etc, but I don't switch off the wifi when I am finished. I just let the phone go into standby as that shuts the wifi off anyway. So to try something different last night, I disabled wifi once I had finished.
This morning, when I got into the office, I enabled wifi and for the first time it connected immediately and I'm browsing on it just fine. This leads me to believe that there is a problem when the wifi is enabled and the phone is is standby mode for a considerable length of time and then is woken up in a totally different location.
I'll test again tonight by disabling the wifi before I leave the office and hopefully I'll get an instant connection when I get home.
Any thoughts?
I get the same thing for work and cannt connect even though it says available, and then connected.
Tried your approach but didnt work for me.

Of course that might be due to any number of factors. Have you ever been able to connect at your office?
i've had issues with my orange (uk) tytnII actually wanting to make a GPRS connection whilst connected to WiFi when i try and go online.
I connect at work using a program called Odyssey and eventually got that working yesterday, but had to turn off most other connectivity before it'd actually use the WiFi.
then I was at a pub later on with a free wifi hot spot, but that wouldn't connect despite it being 'available'
YAY!
Well...
I retested my theory. Disabled the wireless before I left the office. Got home, enabled it and I connected with no issues.
So there is a problem with having the wifi on when the phone goes into standby and it then waking up in a totally different location.
I wonder if WM6.1 addresses this. I hope so because although I have a work around, its still a pain in the a$$
I had similar problems on my Wizard... never had anything like that on my Kaiser.

Thanks, I might give that a go when I get a chance.
My problem is similiar. If I connect to a certain access point, it will stop working after a minute or so and then not be able connect to that access point or any other one, they are just listed as available. Strange...
Firstly set your wifi power to max.
Secondly, my orange Tytn2 (now dutty v3'd) has never had that problem.
I leave navizon on a lot of the time and thus enter and leave wifi zones frequently with wifi on and my device connects fine to the regular ones I use.
Wi-fi connection
Hi unwired,
I've been surfing this site, but unable to find an answer yet, a newbie that I am. Is there a way to define one network as default? Anytime I want to connect, I have to do it manually, and define settins, rather than just switch it on, connect automatically and fire away. This is how it works on my laptop, or I have to high expectations from the Kaiser?
Thanks in advance.

This is nothing to do with power settings, or at least not for me or several other people I have spoken to. Its generally not a problem when the wifi is on, its after the device has gone into suspend.
I'll bet my bottom dollar that if I set the reg hack so the wifi is always on I wont have this problem but I can't deal with the battery drain.
Just this morning I was connected to my office wifi, went for lunch without switching off the wifi first and when I got back I was longer able to connect to the same access point.
I then deleted the settings for the access point, soft reset and I'm connected again (even if I switch to low power).
To say that this pi$$es me off is an understatement, what kind of wireless device cant handle waking up in a different location to the one it went to sleep in!?

I have had similar problems. I get disco'ed from my AP at home and it won't let me re-connect. Jut keeps asking for the WPA2 key.
I use the same remedy as you. Turn off Wifi Before walking out of range. No amount of Softreset's fix it for me.
Although, some ROM's work better than others. ie Alex's WM6 ROM would not connect at all, the ROM / Radio in my sig are perfect so far.
P.S. This might also be tied to my router, cause a router reset fixes it for me. But i doubt work will let you try that

Yeah I'm really hoping that this is fixed in WM6.1 which, if your experience is anything to go by, might well be the case. I really wanted to wait for the official 6.1, but I feel a flash of Duttys 6.1 coming on real soon.
Recently I've been having problems with my Kaiser connecting to my Wifi.
Here is what happens reliably (when phone on it happens more often):
1) Turn on wifi from comms manager (it searches relentlessly)
2) If I try to turn wifi off in command manager at this stage it hangs the comms manager - not even task manager will be able to close it down.
If I turn the phone off (button) then it won't turn on again till a soft reset.
3) soft boot or remove battery - Kaiser comes back with wifi connected immediately most of the time however, it can also come back still searching in which case repeat soft reset or hard reset.
4) Once connection is established - I can connect / reconnect ok till the device is turned off then it happens again. If phone is off it appears to happen more reliably but I've not tested this enough, it happens either way eventually.
So phone on is 95% reliable but can be ok for a couple of times.
5) Once the wifi is in search mode the comms manager is useless and this continues ad infinitum (any attempt to turn wifi off will hang CM) and always a soft boot will bring the device back with a connection established to my wifi point.
Here's what I've tried:
1) Soft boot / battery removal
2) Hard reset without restoring any kind of back up -ie virgin restart
3) Hard reset without allowing custom install of t-mobile software.
Details of my device:
1) T-mobile Win mobile 6 - original rom
2) Hard SPL : SPL-1.0 Oliprof (CPLD-8)
so the only thing I've done to this machine is installed Oli's Hard SPL.
It appears therefore that no software is causing the problem. I am wondering if there's a possibilty of the Hard SPL causing a problem through corruption or do I have a hardware fault with the radio?
I'd be grateful for any help on this as to what I should do next. Please don't tell me to load win6.1 as this worked fine till now so isn't the problem. The only thing I can think of is to re-do the hard spl.
EDIT: Well I've just reloaded Hard spl 1.0 and the problem is the same so I'm out of ideas.
Just a few thoughts - although I do not have problems with my Kaiser, I have met problems with other folks.
1
Is the signal quality good - we know the range is not fantastic, so it's worth checking:
Start>Settings>Connections>Wireless Lan (Icon)>Main and look at the Signal Quality.
2
Start>Settings>Connections>Wireless Lan (Icon)>Power Mode(Tab) and change to best performance.
3
Does it do this with other networks? Don't rule out the Router creating difficulties.
4
Do you let the Kaiser go to sleep mode with wifi connected. If so I'd advise you terminate the connection in comm manager and turn off using on/off button rather than allowing auto sleep mode.
5
It might be better to allocate a fixed IP address rather than allowing the router to set it. Hangs can be created in the IP allocation stage.
6
Do you have any applications set to auto collect data? These could be weather apps, mail, time sync, quick GPS etc etc etc. If so you can try disabling those settings to ensure the crash is not a conflict between setting up the connection and simultaneous data collection.
These can be pesky problems to track down. I suspect that many of the above would be ruled out by your clean boot after a hard reset. If it always works initially after a hard reboot though, it does suggest that another app/process is interferring at a later stage.

Thanks Mike for your valued input.
Just to answer the questions:
1) Yes signal is excellent (I connect in 3 cycles of the animation plus after reboot it connects immediately)
2) I've tried these options - my current setup worked perfectly before, plus of course a hard reset and clean machine displays the same problems
3) I haven't tried on other networks but I've eliminated the router as the problem. I've tried dynamic / fixed - I normally allocate ip via the router plus lock down mac addresses. opened the system. However, this doesn't surprise me because I can cause this lock up without a connection. It's more rare but for instance, if I turn the phone on and delete my signin, normally this pops a dialogue asking which network to connect to. Sometimes that doesn't come up and it still hangs. It is more rare though.
4) No
5) yes tried all optons
6) No and especially not on a clean machine.
I've had the device for some time without any problems so something has changed quite radically which makes me think h/ware. If I were diagnosing this on a pc I'd be looking at both H/ware or a possible driver problem as it the network adapter is locking when it's accessed, however, on this device I don't see the logic of drivers unless they can somehow corrupt in rom even after a hard reset. Is that possible or heard of?
One observation is that when I get the hang and I try to look at the wifi settings I get the following message:
Code:
"To configure your wireless network, please enable your wireless network card".
This little clue seems to point at somethhing that's caused the adaptor to cease responding but somehow in the process locking the comms manager up (ie. if I goto comms manager and try to turn the wifi off, I'll get the spinner ad infinitum). Yet a reboot will kick it back into life again. And notably once it's running, and providing I don't switch the machine off, it'll work till the cows come home perfectly reliably.
I guess my question is whether there is any possible software cause that could exist AFTER a hard reset? Also the reliablity of this problem is enhanced considerably if 1) I have the phone turned on and 2) if I turn the machine off and back on and try to reconnect. Maybe that could indicate a power issue making the adaptor die I don't know what else would make the adapter lock up.
So far I've re-installed the (same) radio and Hardspl and neither of these have changed anything. I could of course go the final step and install the rom again but I haven't done yet as I wasn't sure what components other than the radio might be relevant in the rom.
Edit:
If it always works initially after a hard reboot though, it does suggest that another app/process is interferring at a later stage.

Just to clarify this: Wifi connects 90% after a soft boot initially. A hard reset makes no difference to the behaviour.
It may be a hardware issue, but it would be last on my list of suspects. (I KNOW it must feel as if you have tried everything already – and I think perhaps you have!!!)
Just a couple of further suggestions – since I am certainly not sure where the problem lies.
Having done a Hard Reset, I would 95% rule out a software issue on the phone (though it is possible with corruption of original data – but a remote possibility I think).
I hesitate to suggest a router factory reset, but it may be worth trying.
Two more things to try:

I am curious about why having the phone enabled causes more crashes. Have there been any phone network changes in your area. It crosses my mind that there have been a few reports of wifi problems when 3G is being used. Perhaps you could, as a test, try limiting the phone to GSM only and then testing wifi:
start>settings>phone>band – set gsm on both drop down lists.

There are a few reasons why I didn't spend more time on the router once I'd established a few things:
1) The adpator actually hangs and it causes abnormal behaviour on the machine. ie. comms manager hangs if you attempt to try to turn off wifi and the spinner comes up. Even more abnormally this causes one of two scenarios, either a) the machine no longer turns off or if you manage to turn off it won't turn on again. So it's causing a major problem with the whole system.
In my experience a no-connect situation never results in a hang, it just times out and a list pops up of other alternative wifi networks it's found and you can always just turn wifi off or use the machine normally at this point.
2) Wifi connects to my router no problem, always has and still will first time from a boot (providing I tried to turn wifi on and it failed before the boot). After a hang and reboot it comes back always connected - doesn't even search, it's a solid non animated connection icon. In other words the card has woken up and therefore has no problems with my router once it's alive.
As an outside chance that the router is getting confused about a disconnect / reconnect I've also rebooted it in between just to make sure - but the router can't tell my machine to hang or fail to respond.
3) I have managed to get this to hang after deleting my settings, ie. stopping it from logging on to my router but rather letting it come up with a list of wifi points it's found. Most of the time the list comes up but after several tests I've confirmed that it does eventually happen. The symptoms are the same when it does. At this point no list appears and we end up with the same deal as in 1)
Having said that I can give the router a try - resetting it isn't too much of a problem as I can backup my configuration but I'm pretty certain it's not the problem bit when problems get wierd then logic sometimes goes out the window and one has to try everything.

I'll follow the registry one just in case but both those threads seem to be from people who can't get a wifi connect at all, usually for s/ware reasons. This is different to my problem which is an abnormal adaptor / system hang caused by accessing wifi.

I'm curious too. I thought a problem with the radio as a whole but I've tested GPS and bluetooth without any problems, both on plus the phone. I also thought that some kind of power issue. If the voltage to the adapter for some reason dropped below a certain point it would kill it till it was kicked back into life. Just a theory. What would cause this, I've no idea, faulty component, dry joint perhaps.
I also had similar thoughts as you on possible changes to the phone service till I finally found it could hang without the phone too just less. This is like 30% to 95%, but multiple on/ off of the wireless and a couple of machine power offs will get it to happen when the phone is off. It just takes a bit more encouragement.
As for 3G I have mine disabled. I only ever turn it on if I am out and need internet via my service. I got caught out when T-mobile's 3G kicked in, in my area and my battery life went to hell about 18months ago - since then it stays disabled.
EDIT: This may or may not be relevant but I hadn't figured out which situation causes failure turn off. If comms manager is hung after a trying to turn wifi off the machine WILL turn off but not back on again. I just found that one other dialogue that hangs is going into the Wifi settings > network adapters > IEE 802.11b/g wifi adapter. This dialog hangs solid. At this point the off button does nothing. It's a reset. Just a strange reversal but it's also a confirmation that the adapter itself is the problem or has been put into a very nasty state.
Hi guys, I am new to this forum.
Problem #1
I recently just traded my Samsung Impression for my brother's AT&T Tilt.
When I got it, I see that when I connect to my WiFI network at home it works fine and says that it successfully connects. However, after about a minute of browsing the internet on WiFI, the connection drops. Windows still says that it is connected to my WiFI network, but when I try to access a webpage, it does not work.
I have done many things: including resets, ROM flashes, Android installation, other browsers..but in the end I still have the same problem!
I don't know if anybody else has this problem, but when I called AT&T they told me my warranty expired a couple days ago :[.
That's problem number 1
Problem #2.
Recently, I have been seeing that whenever I slide out the keyboard, the touch screen does not function, whatsoever. When I slide it back in again, it works fine, but not slid out. I am thinking that there is a loose connection somewhere? I have also performed many resets with no luck. I have even restored to the stock OS and it is still giving me a problem.
If anybody can help, please post!
By the way, currently I am running Ultimate X2-V11 Premium ROM with Windows Mobile Professional 6.5
Thanks!
For problem 1... try:
Settings> System> Advanced settings> Network> and then changing the wifi timeout time or switching it off entirely.
For #2 it does sound like a loose/severed connection. Maybe you can use the disassembly guide in the stickies and have a look for anything loose inside.

Hi there, I have the exact same situation, I tried everything, master resets, downgrades of spls and custom roms, and different radios. All didnt work. I asked the same question and no one replied, may mean there is no known solution. I also scoured the web for a whole week, reading almost everything about this issue and trying whatever was suggested to no avail. Now I am selling my HD7 with "the wifi and bluetooth doesnt work".
thanks for the reply and sorry to hear your phone is in the same boat as mine.
Mine seems to be getting worse, slowly affecting other functions of the phone. ive lost count of the hard resets i've done now. somethimes settings wont open, apps dont always open. got to pull the battery to shut the phone off as the screen dulls down if i leave it but it doesnt time off. and the power button sometimes works and sometimes don't.
think unless someone turns up with a magic nswer soon, i'll need to order new phone too. shame coz i really like the hd7
I am having the same problem. Wifi worked fine since I bought the phone on 11/2010, but stopped working last night. When I went to power the phone off, I had to remove the battery because it was stuck on the "Goodbye" screen (the first time this has happened).
Same problem, what can we do?

Exactly the same problem. I've flashed and reflashed, tried all radios from 5.51, 5.52, 5.69 to 5.71.
After a reset the wifi works once or twice then doesn't work anymore :crying:
Must be the module within the phone. I see the middle housing has two connectors for WiFi and GPS, perhaps the WiFi connector doesn't work but it looks like this little thing is only an antenna, not a module.
The part I meen is a "sticker" that's on the same piece of plastic as the kickstand.
Should i replace the entire inner part or would the antenna be enough?
Help: WiFi/Bluetooth Problem
Hi, I suggest you change the title to 'WiFi/Bluetooth Problem' as I also have the same problem. It does not detect either of the two WiFi protocols (WPA2 & WEP) as I tried both with my router (laptops and androids get them both perfect).
Bluetooth on the other hand, does not pair with ANY device. Brings 'Tap to pair' prompt', then the Error 'Not Supported'. I'm running Dynamics v2.0 - Newer WP7.8 custom ROM, but this was the same even with factory ROM.
So are there any developments regarding the problems here? I still got it, no Wi-Fi, no BT...
I have a problem with my WiFi too. everything was ok since I had my HD7 two years ago, and I started to flash many custom roms a year ago with no problems at all. but one month ago my WiFi stopped working without any obvious reason, my phone was connected to wifi and I put it on the table then I picked it up.... no WiFi at all and no internet sharing also. I can turn on or off the green switch of the wifi but only just for fun! and the Wifi icon which usually pops down from the top of my phone will never appear.
I tried to flash new or old roms, many many hard resets with no luck. Also opened my phone to check if there is a hardwear problem but seems not.
Now I'm using cellular for the internet untill I can buy a new phone and break this one.
Ik must be built in or so. Every flash I do, two reboots later, Wi-Fi breaks.
They just want us to get new phones :/
EDIT
I've also installed two different, brand new, SD-card (1 class 2 and 1 class 10) but this gives the same problem.
On a side note, the class 10 is way, way faster
/EDIT
Same here
