Hi I was wondering if any bell or more appropriately Sasktel users are using any gingerbread roms and how the csc and modem is working out.

I'm on Bell, used to run CyanogenMod7, now I'm testing out the latest MIUI gingerbread builds. The modem seems to work fine enough (either JL2 or KC1). I haven't had any issues. Battery efficiency could be better, but I'm not convinced that's the modem's fault.
So other than battery probs are you happy. Also all you did is flash the rom and then a new modem

Yeah, I'm on Rogers with CM7 and KC1 Modem, running smooth with great speeds on my 3g+ I just noticed your other post and yes I flashed the ROM and then the Canadian modem

hey guys , i have flashed several rom and i really like the look and feel of the darky's rom however i have really bad reception issue. sometimes at home where i usually have full bar i have no signals at all , or last night i was traveling to Oklahoma city with my friend who is running captivate on stock rom and he had full bar while i had no service at all ! any idea what i'm doing wrong ?
Usually better to ask in the darky thread , but anyways.
Did you flash back to stock and then upgrade to darkys or did you upgrade on top of a previous rom? If the latter, flash back to stock and reinstall.
If the former, try a different modem. I am not using the modem or kernel that came with darkys rom. I am using the kernel with speedmod and ugjl2 modem and so far I have great reception. Of course that isn't saying much as I always have great reception using my cell device (can't think of its name atm.)

You are running the I9000 version and not the captivate port. This alone wont cause problems if you have the reoriented kernel but the jpy modem you have will. I believe it does not have the 850 band. Flash a different modem from the modem thread in the development section and you should be good to go.
If im mistaken please forgive as its 7:30am and I still haven't slept yet.

thanks for your reply ! well yea i did one click odin to stock 2.1 and then flash this using this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=868262
and http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=808286 flashing xcaliburinhand's latest reoriented kernel (odin version) with voodoo (I9000_reoriented_v2.3.0) so i'm not sure what is the issue here ... can you all guide me what modem should i use ? i was actually thinking about the same thing because i use to have a phone that didn't have 850 bad and i had this kind of issue ! so any help of how and where to get a modem to flash will be greatly appreciated !
I personally use JK4. A lot of people find that JL3 works better for them. Either way at the moment these are the top two modems available. Both can be found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=9134296&postcount=2 and are flashable via CWM.
Also next time you are going to flash a version of Darky's just use this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=890429 or any one that ytt3r starts because he ports them over to the captivate and you don't have to worry about messing with kernels or anything not working properly.
thanks i'll try it next week , since i'm running Axura 2.2 and so far i like it
From my understanding... a i9000 base rom should be used with an i9000 modem and kernel. At the same time a captivate base rom should be used with a captivate based modem. Please correct me if this is not true.
Now, what I don't understand is why are there roms that mix it up? Firefly uses the rogers Froyo.. which is JL1 captivate base rom, but at the same time use a JK4 modem which is i9000 from bell.
I'm not exactly sure where JPY, JS3 and more recently JS5 came from either.
generally using a an att or rogers rom will be incompatable with another modem. not that the phone wont work but you lose bluetooth audio. it is posible that this doesn't apply to the official rogers froyo or that they have accepted this as a minor compromise for adding hsupa.
i dont know of another reason to match modem to anything, many say to match it to the kernel but in the case of an att rom that doesn't help any, and i have run t959d modems on i9000 kernels and roms and there are no ill effects. so that theory is out.
some even like to run captivate modems on other roms giving up hsupa because they get more stable results.
really the non rogers/att modem on a rogers/att rom is the only known problem. all other "rules" are mearly safe suggestions, but if we did things the safe way all the time we wouldn't learn anything.
the only other criteria to choose a modem is that on att or in canada you want to use a modem that defaults to the 850 band. basically if you want hsupa use a bell or telus modem on i9000 kernel and non att/rogers rom. there are also chinese and austrailian and newzeland and other modems that work just fine. i find the kp1 from china to be the most versitile. i think the modem has all the bands so it's better for international use and i get the most satalites with it though the positioning is less stable untill you tweak the gps settings a little.
@ dani897 are you meaning the kp1 has all 5 wcdma bands enabled? i know of 850/900/1700/1900/2100 that would be handy.... is there any known draw backs or just try and see? it would be nice to change countries/carriers without finding/ flashing a new modem. great info thanks.
Hi i have a question about allowing the hspa network on stock froyo rom....
How would i go about doing this?
Flash a new modem? Possible one from an hspa capible device like the i9000?

Would i also have to use an i9000 kernel or could i use my current existz voodoo kernel?

Kernels have to match modems. kb1 to kb1, i9000 to i9000.
So is running a i9000 kernal better than using a captivate kernal?
if so what are the pros and cons if any?
rom kernal match
Look. I've tried different kernals with stock froyo 2.2 and learned the hard way with sticking with stock modem. Call quality was crap and battery life severly dimished with having a improper mix of modems and kernals. Since those mistakes I run continuum 4 with onix kernal 2.05 and jvk modem and have great batt life and call quality and download speeds are phenomenal. The best way I have found without going flash crazy is to see what the experienced people are using on their phones. The have it listed in their stats at the bottom of each posting they make. These people have been modding for awhile and know by experience what works best. Try that and you should have no problems getting the best combo for your captivate. Hope this answers your question. Good luck!
hsupa is over rated the phone already has hsdpa. hsupa may be good if you want to video chat or teather. but if you must get hspa in full you want to flash a different rom. no one has figured out a workaround for the brokn bluetooth calling with a rom/modem mismatch on a north american captivate rom.
as for the kernel, well i haven't tried an i9000 or i9010 or i9088 kernel on kb1 but they all should work. also i haven't tried changing the modem without changing the kernel but i believe that should also work. even if it is not recomended. i have never adhered to the notion that modems and kernels should match and had good luck with modems for t959d i9000m and i9088 on i9000 i9010 and i9088 kernels without major problems. it does seem that the older modems do not work all that great on the captivate with call volume or quality problems regardless of rom and kernel. but the kp1 from i9088 and kc1 from i9000 are both great on the captivate, i think i give kc1 the edge. if it weren't for those two and maybe others that i didn't try i would recomend leaving it all kb1 for the simple fact that a phone should make good phone calls.
the adage that the modem and kernel must match is true. ie. i9000 kernel/i9000 modem i897 kernel/i897 modem....it is absolutely true you must match those. if you use an i897 modem with an i9000 kernel or vice versa, you will have data but no voice. its not just a myth
Hi all,
Just wanted some feedback from anyone with the Bell Mobility I9000M that has flashed JVH. How are you liking the update?
As well:
Is 850Mhz supported? If not can we flash another modem over to enable 850? How has the reception been compared to JL2?
How is the battery life compared to 2.2 Roms? I am currently on a Doc 2.2 JS8 Rom and get about 2 days with moderate use.
Thanks!
JVB was really good, needed to preform the 850 fix or flash a new modem (I always flash ugkc1) bettery was pretty good
JVH I just flashed and modem needs same as JVB fix or flash of an 850 default... can't say for battery yet, most are saying it takes some calibration on JVH... GPS fix is best I have ever had.
I was Doc 9.5 moved to Doc 10 rc6, moved to simply honey now on juwe... liked doc 10 the least.
works fine here. JVH with KC1 modem
Hello all,
I recently rooted my Bell Galaxy s and flashed speedmod-k13e-500hz so now my phone is pretty fast and smooth but would like to improve my constant low signal issue and choppy phone calls ( also my batt life has decreased since rooting and applying speedmod with lagfix enabled and have cleared batt stats in cwm) Im on stock UGKC1 and am wondering if i can fix my issues. I would also like to flash 2.3.3 but wonder which rom/modem combo would be best for me and also a litlle how to since i believe i need gingerbread bootloader but am a little confused.
Thanks in advance for anyone willing to help or point me in the right direction.
GG
I find KC1 modem works really well... If you are having issues with that modem try JK4 or JL2 or the telus modem (TLJ or something) first 2 are both older versions of Bell Modems... as for 2.3.3, I have used simply honey, Juwe, GingerReal and current flashing Darky.
So far in order I like:
Juwe - JVH
Simply Honey - JVH
GingerReal - JVO
Darky - JVH (unkown, but loved the froyo version)
I always flash KC1 modem with gingerbread
I think the JVo modem is the best so far, but you can test which is the best for your region and phone.
Exactly, the JVO modem in the Toronto area is garbage, but probably really good in other places. Your 'default' modem is probably always a safe bet
Thanks for the replies. I will compare JVO to KC1 and see which one performs better. I just bought an Incredible S and seems to be getting better reception than the SGS in general.
