X Construction runs very slow - Nook Color General

Hi there, my nc is running customized nookie froyo.68, with an old but wifi friendly oc kernel, I can run angry birds pretty well. But today I tried paly X Construction on it. it ran veeeery slow. I' not sure if it's only me or everyone gets the same. I was so surprised as it doesn't have too much animation in the game.
Sent from my Nook Color (zoom2) using Tapatalk

Did you end up getting it to run fast again?
I found X Construction lite worked fine on my Samsung Galaxy S (Froyo), so purchased the full game. But the full game runs extremely slow. Have un-installed and re-installed, no joy.
Anyone got any suggestions, besides sending an email to the dev (which I've done with no reply).

[Q] Best Stable Rom for a new Tab Owner

I just got a Galaxy Tablet (t-mobile).
I am familiar with rooting (have a droid incredible running Lou's Revolution "Senseless" Rom and Kernels).
The tablet is going to be a family device. I want to avoid going through the process of trying Roms as I did with my incredible..
What is the most stable Rom that will provide good performance and battery life for running Launcher Pro? WiFi connectivity is very important - dialing or fancy phone agumentations are not necessary (only using this as a wifi device).
Thanks.

I'm wondering this as well. So far, I have rooted, ran OCLF, and pretty much everything else is stock T-Mobile. I use my tab for surfing, blogging, streaming video and music from my media center, and ebook reading. I use it regularly all day every day.
It goes for about a day and a half before I charge it. I have an iPad that my daughter uses. It'll go 2 full days easily.
I have not had a single issue that required me to reboot since I got the tab over a week ago.
Realistically, Is there a single mod out there for the galaxy tab that can say this? Will Overcome behave this well?
Of course, I'd love it to be faster when I've got several web pages loaded. I'd love better battery life, too. I don't want either of these things if I have to wonder if/when the OS is going to explode, or reboot on me all the time. I guess I would consider a couple reboots a week to be acceptable.
Are these expectations realistic for modded firmware?
I've been using Overcome for a few weeks now, and haven't had a single reboot. My battery life is slightly lower, in that I use the Tab as my phone as well. So, the constant cell radio usage trims my battery life down to 24 hours or so.
Otherwise it's far snappier and responsive than stock (T-Mobile) especially overclocked to 1.4ghz and undervolted. Keep in mind, that flashing a Euro Rom (as you're thinking of doing) will change your Build.Prop... essentially changing how the Market and Apps see your device model listed. Which can be good and bad.
Gameloft for example, has more games available for the GT-P1000 than it does the SGH-T849 (T-Mobile Tab ID)...which is great, however I had to change my Build.Prop back to stock, to be able to use Samsung Media Hub on my device.
I have a similar question, but for the Sprint version.

I notice that you have a g-tablet. How would you compare the two tabs from a performance and stability standpoint?
Well...the Tegra2 in the GTab flies...for sure. I don't notice much performance difference between my overclocked Tab (and ext4) and it tho. Quadrant avg for GTab is around 1900-2100...Galaxy Tab hitting 1700-1900
Main issue I have with the GTab is the screen. Seems like they ripped an lcd from a netbook and put it in the GTab. Quality of the Galaxy Tab's screen is much better.
Battery life is good, considering. Had to replace the Rom immediately, cuz stock out of box made the device barely usable. Seems to handle video just fine, however my wife sitting next to me on a plane trip had a hard time watching the movie at an off angle.
Gaming is fluid, tho I haven't tried the Tegra games as of yet. The GTab is heavy with prolonged use...tho most 10 inchers will be. Otherwise, for the price...and with the support the devs are giving it...it's worth it. Although...I think my main device will end up being the 8.9 inch Galaxy Tab, the size just seems to be the perfect bridge between the 7 and 10 inch tablets.
I have not loaded any roms, only rooted and flashed MaDaCo kernel only. Its fast and everything works great. I have not found any ROMs that I would consider flashing. The stock ROM works fine with a new kernel. Problem is also that the Tab development section has come to a hault. Nothing really new for a long time

I agree...not a ton of NEW stuff coming along....but Alterbridge has been steadily updating his Overcome Rom & Kernel...it's a stable daily driver. And, one guy (not sure how legit it is) has been working on HC port for the Tab...and said he'd be finished with rough draft in another week or two. (crosses fingers)
The ONLY reason I flashed a Rom was to enable Phone activities on my Tab. Otherwise, not a huge reason to go beyond stock firmware...Kernel upgrade is a must, however! Effin Sammy won't pull it's head out of it's arse and get rid of RFS format, so converting to ext4 is a huge performance tweak.

You must have had some serious good luck with your gtablet. Apps on mine FC'd a dozen times a day, it randomly rebooted, and wouldnt sleep. I had vegan 5.1.1 loaded. It drove me nuts. Im a little 'rom shy' now. Lol.
On a side note, i dont notice much difference in performance between my unmodded tab and the gtablet. If anything, the tab is snappier and infinately more stable. The thing about a modded rom that scares me the most is lack of stability. Id blame my gtablet issues on myself, but i bought it already modded - from one of the vegan devs.

No doubt...GTab FC's happen, and some of that can be attributed to the Roms...tho I daresay it's more about the device itself.
The only FC's or reboots I've had on the Tab is when I mess overly much with the voltage settings.
I have had zero issues with Overcome ROM/Kernel, even with OV/UV applied. I also like how he is constantly updating his work, as stated in a previous reply.
I added Roto's modem switcher and used the SIM hack, and I have full phone functionality with my G1 SIM on my tmo tab.
Yep, im a Overcome fan for both rom and kernel. Not a single problem so far.
My TMO tab is coming in tomorrow, is it still the consensus that the Overcome 1.2 ROM, or rather Overcome 1.6.3 now, is the best bet?
I'll be making a full Roto Backup before playing with it so hopefully it won't be a problem going back to stock from Overcome 1.2 if need be.

Dude, you do realise that those posts where made 2 months ago?
We are up to Overcome 1.6.4 now.
Thanks, dude, post had been updated...anyway the question remains.
Overcome 1.6.4 ROM/Kernel are your best choice. You won't regret flashing it over.
Thanks, will do some downloading to be all set tomorrow when it comes in.
Agree, Overcome was rock solid easy to install. My SGT on tmous, is very stable.

Life of my rooted NC

First off, I hope that everyone enjoys their NC in the way that they want to use it...it's a great eReader. For those that are a little adventurous, even if not very tech savy, all you have to do is research the internet and posts from other users and you too, can have a customized NC.
I picked up my NC in Feb and have never been disappointed with what it is capable of doing. It's like the eBook/tablet version of the HTC HD2 (IMHO).
Since Feb, I have learned how to root and load new ROM's in the emmc, set up dual-boot, side load .apk files, and edit the build.prop, systemui, system and framework files. Now mind you, I have never done any of this before so it has been a great learning experience and the NC has been the best device to work with.
My NC started life like most NC's did....with 1.0. From there it has handled the following changes (some of them more then once before the dual boot setup came out):
-Monster Root pack
-Auto nooter
-Sideloaded stock 1.1
-Ultimate Droid
-Honeycomb 3.0v4 from DeeperBlue
-CM7 nightlies from 16-32
-Nookiecomb
-Dual Boot setup
-CM 7.0
-Stock 1.2
-Phiremod 6.1
-Phiremod 6.2
-New Boot screen animation
-Several Dalingrin OC Kernel's (currently running 4/24/11 set at 1300mhz and benching 1124mhz).
-Several different themes, widgets, buttons and icons that are Honeycomb style
-Many apps: Netflix, Angry Birds Rio, Air Attack HD, Pocket Legends, Nova, Cordy, etc...
.
I'm still using Phiremod 6.2 which has been very stable even with the 4/24/11 OC Kernel. I have stock 1.2 in the dual-boot partition but it is just for show...I never use it.
None of the above would have ever been without the developers and the users and fans of both Andriod and the NC. All I did was some research and followed instructions...some very basic and some kinda technical. During all of the tinkering, loading, unloading, unzipping and installing, it still worked great at being an e-reader even though I was turning into a tablet.
Okay, so it doesn't have a camera, 3g or 4g, and there is no video capture capability, but ya know what...my HD2 has the things it's missing (well not 4g but I could care less) and I can tether to it wirelessly.
Okay, so it doesn't have a 10" screen or a full keyboard but my Netbook has that and this I can stuff in the pocket of a jacket or backpack without it weighing me down so really...am I missing anything for the price? In my opinion...not really.
My NookCOLOR's evolution
I've tried every flavour of NC ROM out there (many several times). With the help of Titanium Backup PRO, I've only lost a de minimus amount of data in going from ROM-to-ROM.
Longest usages: CM7 and HCv3 - about 3-4 weeks each.
Current: CM7 beta 3.1 & .32 kernel (OC anyone? - LOL)
The key take away for me has been this: NC is an UNBREAKABLE Beast of a machine that has taken a beating from me, with all my restlessness to be on the bleeding edge. It has never given in or called 'no mas.' And it lives to tell the tale to all those ill-informed haters out there.
Whatever happens (or doesn't happen) on May 24th from B&N, I don't care. NC is my first true love.
Good thread m8!
Right now, my major concerns are the one failed power cable (replaced at the store) and wearing out the SD slot!

Yes it has one thing missing: more processing/GPU power.
If the NC had a Tegra 2 (or Tegra 3), I would be in heaven.
As it is now, that's the only thing limiting me playing some of those super-demanding 3D games (as well as general performance of the device).
Unfortunately, I'm looking at all these powerful devices coming out like the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 that was given away at Google I/O and while it has amazing performance etc, I just don't want that big of a device. I *LOVE* the size of the Nook Color. I LOVE my B&N case that makes it look nondescript (people have confused it multiple times for a book haha -- I love that).
Nook Color-sized tablet with a Tegra 2 (or 3) for under $299-$399 and I am so there!
I agree 100% ! I was lucky enough to be able to get an Asus Transformer but find myself picking up my Nook everyday, I come in and read every post in the various rom threads, trying to learn, confident that I won't brick my Nook
I started with stock, then rooted stock, then Nookie Froyo, the CM7 with nightlies. Tonight I went with Phiremod 6.2. I'm totally delighted, this toy
has provided me with countless hours of learning opportunities.. now to go read up on netflix

Yup...it's a Beast alright. I'm happy with the CM7/Phiremod but would change to HC if they can get more of the apps to work. I saw a post from someone that is working an SDK version but it's not a daily driver yet.
Unless B&N came out with a dual-core HC version of the NC then I'm happy with what I have. I doubt the news next week will even be close to that!
Thanks for the kudo.

I agree....it would be great to have a Tegra 2 or 3 to speed it up.
The Galaxy, Xoom and the other 10" Tabs out there are just too big. I wouldn't trade the size of the NC for the increase performance...1100+mhz is pretty good for me. I know that T-mobile has an 8" G-tab that is running a dual-core setup with HC. That, if anything would be something to look at but I like the fact that the NC is not linked to my mobile account so they can't charge me more for using it! Freedom is a wonderful thing

Yup. All these manufacturers making 3G-only tablets without a Wi-Fi version are moronic.
Even the CEO of Nvidia realizes this: http://www.engadget.com/2011/05/15/nvidia-ceo-disappointed-by-android-tablet-sales-blames-pricing/
At this point I would never consider a 3G tablet, unless I can use it via my already-existing T-Mobile data connection without having to pay more. As soon as all the manufacturers start being smart and offering Wi-Fi-Only tablets, Honeycomb sales will take off.

Honeycomb v3.1 vs CM 7.1.0 for nook

Hi Guys,
I'm planning to install my first custom ROM on nook color. However, I am wondering how good is honeycomb port on nook. Ideally and I know the right answer is to try it out myself both and find out, but I don't have enough time to try out both since I have to give away the nook to someone.
I have honeycomb on my EEE transformer and really love it...that's why i'm favoring for HC but still if anyone can anyone details pros and cons for both HC and CM7, regarding stability, battery life and overall quirks, bugs and performance, it would be really helpful..
Regards,
HC isn't really ready for the NC.. its very buggy and still has several issues running on the NC. cm7 is very stable and well running few problems at all. just my 2 cents
Since honeycomb isnt open source, the Nook port is made from the SDK rather than source. As such, its incredibly buggy and very slow. Dont get me wrong, its impressive that it works in the first place. But by no means is it a daily driver.
CM7 is the way to go unless you absolutely must have HC app compatibility. Even if you do, we'll have ICS in a few months.
Another vote for CM7. I tried an older release of the Honeycomb port and it was pretty bad -- very laggy and a lot of stuff didn't work. Several people have said that it's not really much better even now since we don't have an official release of HC's source. I ended up going back to stock for a long time until I tried CM7. They have done great work, and even though it's based on a "phone OS" (Gingerbread), it's adapted very well to the Nook.
Thanks for reply guys..
Actually I just saw some videos of NC running HC, so I got excited..didn't know it was that buggy..i'll put CM7 on it today

HC may be buggy, but some of the lag that a lot of people experience is because they install it to SD and their SD card is a low class giving it lower read speed. And the default launcher is terribly slow and buggy. If you decide to use it, use a lightweight launcher like zeam.
If you're still interested in trying it out, look into dual booting it and cm7. That's what I currently have set up.
I know this ROM was not included in your original question buy I highly recommend MIUI. I have found it to be incredibly stable and fast and the UI just looks great on the NC. I have tried CM7, Phiremod, and Honeycomb and to me the look and feel of MIUI just seems to fit the NC. Anyways, just my two cents : )
when i used to have my NC dual booted with Phiremod and Honeycomb i hated using the Honeycomb because it was glitchy and slow.. i went to using CM7 Nightly 150 and havent looked back.. it runs smooth as can be, is overclocked to 1.2 ghz, and battery life is with reading alot and searching the web ( 2-4 hrs of usage a day ) i can get a solid 4-5 days on one charge... if i only use it for an hour or so a day easily 9 days.. CM7 works great and you can theme it to look like honeycomb in alot of ways..
It's not even close. Honeycomb is pathetic. Go with CM7.

I have a feeling that ICS will run better on the Nook than HC does but that is just speculation.
These developer at XDA rock so I have faith they'll make it happen as soon as Google releases the code. Yeah, I believe in Santa, the Easter Bunny and the Tooth Fairy

SPB shell 3D on nook color?

Has anyone been able to load this launcher on the NC? I have tried a couple roms and have not been able to load it. I have it on my Droid x phone. Currently I am running phiremod 7.1 on the nook.

I have SPB 3D running on my Nook with CM7.
Runs super smooth!!!
I know, $14.95 in the market is a bit steep, but I run it now on my Nook Color, my TouchPad with CM7, and on my Samsung Galaxy SII with rooted stock.
So it comes down to $5 per device. Not too bad for a great launcher.
it runs fine for me, also make sure you turn on tablet mode in the experimental settings
CM7.1 stable
Thanks for the feedback. I haven't tried CM7 for the NC yet. That might be my ticket to getting shell 3d to work.

Phones slow after JB Update

My phone is frustratingly slow after the update. I've tried some of the ROMS that were built for it but those are bad as well. Is it just me or is everyone's phone this slow? Sometimes it'll take like 5 seconds to open an app or go from the lock screen to an app. Im super bummed because I really like'd how well the phone ran with ICS.

I had the exact same experience. With ICS it was pretty smooth, after the OTA to JB it sucked, bad. I tried a handful of roms, none that seemed that great. Until I came across the liquidsmooth one here. Thats what Im running now, no complaints at all. Fast, responsive, super customizable. Give it a look if you havent already.
Agree with voodoodaddy I had the same issue and liquid smooth 2.4 is so far the fastest, most stable, full functioning ROM out there. Just remember to install it on ROM slot 3

Are you talking about the clock speed? It's completely stock (w/root) I haven't screwed with any hardware settings at all.
Even LTE is slow. Im on YouTube right now and it's buffering ever 20 second or so.
My bionic is also frustratingly slow. The stock ROM does an incredibly terrible job of managing background tasks and memory usage. I would switch roms but I have all these motorola accessories that typically don't work on anything but a stock rom. It's really awful. Unless some real changes are made this will be my last Motorola device. Samsung has really stepped up their game and I see no reason to go with someone else.

The reason I asked was because in certain phones when the ota ICS they bumped up the click speed to 1.2. I found on mine the phone couldn't handle that bump and it suffered similar to what your describing until I took it back down to 1.0

Y'all can also try doing a FDR (factory data reset). Been known to help with some after an upgrade. You won't lose root.
Before I updated to JB I FXZ'd to stock ICS. So I would imagine that would kick me back down to 1.0 no?
As I typed my response I realized I should just check rather then ask...so I DL'd no frills and sure enough it was at 1.2. So I bumped it back to 1.0. We'll see what happens.
Thanks
Let us know, since ICS I've been running under clocked and using CPU Sleeper. Been getting great battery life and no problems
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2
I am having the same problems, apps slow to load, serious lag when typing, etc... I just checked and I am running at 1 GHz too. Battery life went from 10 hours on ICS to 7 on JB. I recently rooted but I was having these issues when everything was all stock.
How long have you had your Bionic? This is about the time the batteries starts dying and that can cause problems too
Sent from my DROID BIONIC using Tapatalk 2
So after making the change to 1.0 for a few days that appears to have been my problem. Phone is running much better.
