How to prevent wifi from sleeping?
I have a few apps that have the permission of "prevent phone from sleeping" but seems the phone will still switch off the wifi soon after the screen timed out. Is it supposed to work like this, or is there some settings for this?
one of the apps i tried is "wireless file transfer lite", which by the way, is a very light wifi transfer tool between phone and pc
Wifi settings > menu button, advanced > Wifi sleep policy.
ha! didn't know there is advanced setting.
many thanks!

I have configured my Tilt to connect to my home Wifi network, and I want to leave Wifi running on the Tilt at all times so that I can just connect automatically when I get home.
However when I do this I get annoying notifications every 2 seconds about wireless access points in my vicinity. Is there any way to disable this notification for all networks?
Thanks.....
Goto Sounds & Notifications. You can disable all notifications for "Wireless network detected" event there.
And be ready to have a dead battery by the time you get home.
There should be an option where it says to not show this message again. On the notification**

Thanks, I tried that. However all notification options ('Display message on screen', 'vibrate', etc.) were already disabled for 'Wireless network detected'. However, I still get the notifications when a new network is detected! gar....
Yes, I think the ignore will only ignore until you toggle wifi again, or will only ignore networks which have alrday been dismissed. Anyone know for sure.
In any case, I too find this annoying use AEB+ to map the wifi on/of toggle to a long press on the Contacts softkey, then it is virtually hassle free to turn it on and off.
Try This
Here is a program i made that fixes this problem for the HTC touch pro, let me know if it works on your device.

Whenever I turn WiFi on, the phone will go nuts looking for access points (and chew up the battery doing so and notify me repeatedly). Is there any way to configure WiFi so that it will only using WiFi when it sees a particular access point(s), e.g. my home or work, and ignore everything else on the street. And when those specific access points are unavailable, go back to Edge, GPRS, etc.?
You can still turn off notifications if you want, go to Settings > Wi-Fi > Menu > Advanced and untick "Turn on available network notification".
After I've done the initial setup, when I enable Wifi, my phone auto connects to my Home Wifi and doesn't notify me of any other networks when I'm in Range.

yes +1, but I was thiking that anyway WiFi turns off when you shut down the screen, so when you walk in the street your wifi should not be alive. As to do so, you would have anyway a poor battery life. It's cool to use wifi when you need, but let it scan for networks all the time is not the best way.
is there a way if any program needs connection the wifi to turn on and after exit of the program the wifi to turn off (not waiting 2-3-4min if there is no usage to turn off then)?
I have turned off the wifi for the battery life reasons, so when I need it any time I have to go into comm.manager and so on....
I'm actually using phoneweaver (not free), you can set profiles to switch on/off wifi at specific times. I can turn wifi on, but for some reason can't turn it off automatically, guess I'm a bit dumb to set it correctly, but it works for me.
there's another software called wifilocations (free), it seems to turn on/off wifi based on cell id's, haven't tried it but might work for you
I personally have set a hardware button to act as Wifi on/off (with AEBPlus) and just toggle it with a double press when I need it and when I'm done.
There is a wifi button on the keyboard (right arrow button)
True, I usually forget about that one. But then, I don't want to open the phone to turn Wifi on/off.
Prepare for something magical...
Ok so this isn't magical, in fact, it's just another .cab that you can remapp a button to, that's what I have done and I just toggle wifi on and off using it. Here is the .cab.
Somewhat related but does anyone know if it's possible to turn the phone off but leave wi-fi on ? If I'm at home, I want to have Skype running and receive calls like general mobile calls. Would also like to be available with Messenger too

Download KaiserTweak, it has an option to keep wifi on during standby.
Perfect thanks however .......
Anyone know how I can run Skype and/or WLM in background ? They seem to shut when I click X on them

Check you don't have a 3rd party program or HTC task manager set to "close" instead of "minimize" when tapping X.
So I'm a big Tasker user and I use a 7" Android Tablet in my car as my "infotainment system." I have a Tasker profile that when connected to my Car's Bluetooth, turns on Wifi Hotspot and upon disconnection, turns off Wifi hotspot. I noticed that HotSpot was turning on without a problem, but not turning off.
I also have a Widget Button to toggle WiFi Hotspot on/off. Again, it will turn it on, but it doesn't turn it off. As a test, I also used the app Llama and added an action to turn Wifi Hotspot on and another to turn it off. Again, it was able to turn it on with no problem, but when trying to execute the "off" it gave me the error message "WiFiAccessPoint may not be supported by your phone."
This is really annoying since the only other way to turn it off is to go into phone settings, then More, then Wifi Hotspot, then untick "Hotspot" to turn it off.
Besides wondering if this is working on anyone else's phone, I'm wondering if anyone knows where to write or post such bugs for the Moto programmers to see...
FYI - So I found another bug related to this same issue. Besides 3rd Party Apps (Tasker, Widgetsoid, Llam, basically any app that toggles settings) not being able to turn WiFi off, IF they are used to turn it on then turning it off inside settings will not automatically turn Wifi back on as it should.
If you turn HotSpot on via the Moto HotSpot settings then turning it off will automatically cause wifi to turn back on.
Hoping Moto fixes this issue and allows full toggling of HotSpot via 3rd Party apps as this is really killing my automated in-car hotspot.
I have been looking for internet all these days, everywhere to autosync my device when device is sleeping and wifi is off but couldnt find any working solution as yet.
Tasker should turn on wifi, auto sync then turn auto sync off and wifi. I tried all that I could, but not working.
Anyone can help me with this over here ?
I do have a working autosync profile but for me in order to get it to work, I needed synker and secure settings, because Taskers WiFi action does not always work. If you would like me to share it with you, let me know.
It also takes other things into account as well.
I do have secure settings already. Do share how you do it given your device is sleeping and even WiFi is turned off
OK you can download my profile here, since it would be better, rather than explaining it.

I need synker with this ?
Thats correct. But you can try taskers sync option.
Hi, I tried this profile, unfortunately its turning on my data when I am home and Wifi is available. Though I am not sure if its turning on my Wifi while its turned off, I would want to ensure my data stays off. What are the changes I need to make ?
If you wish to remove the mobile data aspect of it altogether you will need to delete, all actions from 9 to 15, then add stop and add end if at then end of the task.
Also it does check to see if wifi is off first and if it is, it will switch it on.
My WiFi is on, but I ensure when screen is off, Wifi stays disabled. And for some reason its not turning back the WiFi when screen is Off. Dont know why
Unfortunately I am in the same boat at the moment, and I have not found anything to resolve this.
I also started my own thread some time ago about it, but I haven't had anyone give me an answer to solve it nor suggest what could cause it.
@ProudRed
UPDATE: I think I might know what the problem is, I have added wake device command at the beginning of my task, via plugin called secure settings > actions > wake device. I will find out tomorrow if this actually works.
I can confirm that adding the plugin > secure settings > actions > Wake device, solves the problem for me. Apparently you shouldn't need this if you adhere to this page http://tasker.dinglisch.net/userguide/en/androidpowermanagement.html
But for some reason it still does not work for me even if I whitelist tasker and it's plugins from 3rd party battery saving apps like amplify or powernap.
The issue I am having is with connecting the wifi, its getting connected but gets disconnected after 5-10 seconds. I have even tried ensuring that screen keeps on for 2 minutes, even after that Wifi is getting disconnected. Can I have an working profile from you without the mobile data part ? May be I am doing something wrong.
