Hello fellow SGS owners, I love my phone but I also get bored easily.
So which phone will you be getting next?
I'm thinking either
Xperia play - Hardly an upgrade but will make playing games a lot more fun especially old snes/gba games like mario/racing etc which really need a gamepad
Galaxy s2 - This is a good phone the next 1 has got to be good also right?
Evo 3d - Super specs but not even official in uk.
I also have another motive, a 20% discount card for o2 (shop in uk) which means I will be able to pick up a play for about £350 - The card is only valid till the end of the month so I'm guessing there is no chance of getting the evo but maybe just maybe the S2 will be released in time
So what would you do? or is there something else you are after?
Galaxy s2, but more than happy with sgs 1 at minute, for emulators I use a zeemote anyway so not bothered about xperia play.

Galaxy S II.
I think my next choice would be tegra 2 based. Just because of the support nvidia can get.
Which makes me disappointed that the galaxy s 2 may not be tegra 2 depending on the region. Also I personally prefer 4 inch screens.
The atrix has a higher screen resolution meaning that it gets less fps in games. And its pentile LCD which isn't the best. Amoled pentile is great as we all know. But non amoled pentile is known for its screen door effect.
Which leaves the LG optimus x2. Great ips LCD, not quite amoled, but good. And tegra 2. Perfect size screen.
LG optimus x2 for me.
Although doesn't the optimus 3D use the sgx 540, same gpu that's in the sgs, but overclocked and it kicks the tegra 2's ass if I remember rightly.
Good old sgs hardware
Tmobile G2x(optimus 2x in other region) because of the almost vanilla android experience, it is tegra, cyanogen will be supporting it. and its simple and affordable. No more no less and easy to hack? Haha lol
My other options is optimus 3d cause of omap4 and SG2 only just because of its looks.

Think I will be sticking with my Sx2 for a good while yet.
I'm waiting until the sgs3 to switch. Dual core is only three times performance of single while quad is fifteen times single core. I buy unlocked so I might as well keep what I have for a while and then get the absolute most for my money when I do upgrade.

SGS 2!!!!! Galaxy Series Rocks!!
Even though I swore I would never get another Samsung phone after the i8910, I now have the Galaxy S & next will be the S2.

If you really need / want a new phone then wait for SGS II but i would advise you to save your money and don't waste it on mobiles.
i heared rumors of the streak 2 could be my next one dell seams to leave the bootloader open don't they?
perhaps i'll go with the evo 3d i am into that whole 3d stuff but if a nexus s 2 or a nexus2 is on the horizon that would with the right specs be my choice above all

The Galaxy S II
Lol not a lot of love for the Play then.
That is pretty much my thoughts but I think I needed you guys to convince me not to go for the Play now.
Here is a question though, if I get to the end of the month and no other phones have been released should I buy a xperia play for £350? do you think I'll be able to sell it on a few month on for about that amount?
By the time my contract runs out my next phone will be quad core
maybe the Galaxy S3 when it gets released next year or if there is something better, then that, currently i have no reason to switch, the performance is great of the SGS, we have the latest Android, maybe we get the next one also and if not then we have maybe a really stable CM7 or CM8, for me it needs more then just dualcore to get me on a new phone.
Galaxy S 2 for sure. Galaxy is the best phone I've ever used by a mile. Modded to the max.
Also got an iPhone 4 (completely modded) but that phone is just a joke. Feels 2 years older than my S.

Any thoughts?
I currently have the samsung, loving it except the limited on board memory on it. Although I come from the mt3g so this is still a good upgrade. It is just that the g2x has been announced for this month release and since I an in the 14 day period thought I could return it and wait until this is released .
Help me out with ur thoughts!
What do u mean with Memory? RAM or ROM?
Take in count, that the LG has the same 512MB ram as the Galaxy S too!
Meant Rom not ram.... app space is the issue I have with the Samsung Galaxy 4G
With the exception of the screen resolution, the G2X beats the Galaxy in every way.
If I were you, I would wait for G2X - dual core, HDMI mirroring, 1080p recording are just worth it.
Definitely wait for the G2X! No doubt about it
Yeah I have a feeling I am going to go return the Samsung before the 14 days are up. I just hate that I will have to go back to my MT3G while I wait for the G2X to be released.
Other then the screen resolution (which the samsung has an amazing one), how do you guys think the battery life compares? I read that the way this dual core handles it, it would do a good job at it?
Also, HDMI is not something that is that much of importance to me, I dont think I will be connecting my phone that much to the TV.
And dont even know when the ginerbread will be out that we can use the dual core (its the gingerbread that works with dual core - am I correct). I often get my deserts mixed up.
I would pick Op2X because AMOLED too much contrast.
G2x will be one of two phones I'll buy this year. The other won't be SGS 4G due to extremely low application storage.
Tomibile GX2 looks pretty awesome...but how about samsung galaxy s2?
since I was using HTC HD2..I change to GALAXY S 4G now...but i still want a bigger screen..
also a guys in costco told me that we can return our device within 30days...and another one told me that we can exchange it within 3 months?!!!
Don't listen to the costco guys, they will tell you anything to make a sale. Have them put in writing.

While it may be attractive, Samsung has had some major quality issues in the past (e.g. Galaxy S gps bugs) that make me have second thoughts about purchasing one of their devices.
Also, there's something to be said for Tegra, it seems, as there are games optimized for it. The SGS2 series will be part Orion (Samsung's own SOC) and part Tegra (until they can meet the full demand for Orion).
Really, we'll need to see benchmarks before making any comparison.
Thinking of selling this one before the price drops more.
But what would be a good replacement ?
I was thinking just the same, I'm planning on getting a SGS 2 when it comes out.
Other nice options are the Nexus S, LG Optimus 2x, Motorola Atrix 4G..
also thinking of the SGS 2 but might be too costly for me and is there a release date yet ?

Sell it if you really want the latest device. If you're just selling it because its going to lose value I wouldn't bother because that next latest device is going to lose value just as quick.
I'm happy with my Galaxy S. I will sell it when it apps start requiring more advanced hardware.. but I think that's a while off.
I wouldn't, considering the cost, trade it for anything on the market right now.
The Atrix has its own bugs, multi-touch wonky and HSUPA AWOL, and little hope of fixes with locked bootloader (and if any it will be on 'carrier time' of months). Also it's pentile and I'm not going down that road again.
Inspire? Yawwn..single-core snapdragon hardly an upgrade.
Other dual-core out is LG Optimus 2x. Don't know, maybe LG can deliver here (ie. unlocked bootloader and quality subsysems) but 800x480 LCD is likely going to seem plain after SAMOLED...
To me its SGS2 or bust, it will be interesting to see when it comes out if Samsung has learned some lessons from SGS1.
The key will be minimizing flaws. Accurate GPS. Snappy performance (apparently movinand more to blame for this than RFS so RFS isn't the death knell). No other big screw-ups. (I won't say battery life because although they can make some headway here, there will somehow always be people who can kill it in 12 hours with 'moderate' usage. I could only kill my SGS in a day when I played for hours on end.)
If it is really amazing, I'd grab it and keep the SGS as a backup. Otherwise I have no issue holding on until next spring/summer.
The Galaxy S phones (or all top tier phones right now) won't be obsolete or get to the point where we are complaining about speed until the end of this year, if thhat.
It also mainly depends on what you're going to be doing on the phone. If you do a lot of browsing, twitter, fb, YouTube and video watching, you should t hhave to upgrade till the end of this year at the earliest.
However as dual core phones become more popular (latter end of the year) more and more applications will be developed for a faster, more powerful phone.

Technology will never stop. When you'll buy SGS2 there will be SGS3, 4.... on the way. Never look at what others have or what's coming in the market. If you're satisfied with your device and its not giving you any troubles then it is just a waste of time & money to look for another thing. Why bother when you even don't need something better? SGS i9000 is almost a perfect smart phone. Be happy with it
Ah i would only Sell My Galaxy S if i need to buy S2 and only if i really have to use NFC..But being in INDIA i think it will be ages b4 NFC comes here . So No point selling .
My other suggestion would be HTC Desire S(just love the sense ui+this one has FF camera)..

i'm thinking of keeping the i9000 because the SGS 2 it's not that advanced yes the 1 gig of ram looks good and that huge super screen but the gpu is not that big deal it's just slightly better than the i9000 an the same with the Optimus 2x even with that Tegra gpu THX to our awesome developers the galaxy s is twice as good then the stock ones i'll only replace it if i break the screen or something like that
LONG LIVE THE --- I9000 ---
i think end of 2011 middle 2012 phones will have this "Kal-El" AKA SUPERMAN GPU ( hahahahah)

Currently i am nearly happy with my SGS after replacing original kernel with speedmod k13c, using ext4 lagfix, replacing homescreen with GO Launcher EX, adding GPS Aids to get better GPS fix. Only miss HID Bluetooth support.
Removed nearly all pre-installed software, Samsung is not good at software development i think. The screen is awesome (use Samsung monitors for years as well).
I hope for a perfect combination of features in a phone 2012 - the super phone will never be super for long
Cheers
Alex
The title says it all, what phone should I change to?
Can change in March as my plan allows me to change every one year. No idea what phone to change to. Budget is of course lower than the S II.
Look for any phone offered that is confirmed to have ics support, that has a decent cpu clock speed.
The xperia line is getting cheaper in singapore.
Maybe an lg optimus 2x its far less money, but not a million miles from the s2. Large screen, dual core and official miui.us and cm7 support. There going for nearly half the cost of an s2, so you should get it free. Not a bad looker ether.

Perhaps a Galaxy R might fit your bill
Herpderp Adreno + Tegra.
LG Optimus 2x maybe??I love that phone and is planning on buying it..
Otherwise, you could go for Galaxy W,but its not dual core
If it were me i would stay with samsung, theyve seemed much more reliable and value for money than other brands ive tried (huawei u8220 + u8110) however those phones are pretty old now, so the newer budget phones from huawei may be pretty good
What about SE Xperia Neo V??
It'll get ICS too ??
depends upon your minimum requirements too...also if u can wait a bit more sony will be launching some good phones shortly in different price ranges

You do realize you're only going to get biased answers here, right?
I went for the Note because it has a bigger screen, a stylus, a replaceable battery and an sdcard slot.
Likewise...mainly for the screen size... I mean I have friends who all have 4.6 in down and it looks absolutely normal from spectator's, I on the other hand love the attention - yrs spec wise HTC one x does outweigh the phablet - you can compare this to apple laptops vs Sony, HP... the Macs have the lower specs overall yet people buy it for its unique looks and simplicity...(probably why the upcoming windows 8 look so much simpler than W7)
Sent from my GT-N7000 using XDA
It pretty much come down to this
GNote: Battery life and huge beautiful screen
One X: Quad-core
I don't think quad is needed as of now, so I would pick the GNote
Another "me-too" phone with higher-end specs (One X) vs. a genuinely unique, niche device (phablet with Wacom digitizer; N7000).
Seems like two different markets.
the main improvements over the note come from the one x's quad core CPU. if you compare them both in GPU benchmarks at the same ressy, they both perform quite similarly. when nvidia announced that the tegra3 would be 3x faster... they were comparing it to the tegra2.
so the main improvement will be in web browsing (android browser supports quads), smoother interface, and improvements in apps that support multicores (very few do aside from benches).
the only thing that peeves me about the one x is that it doesnt have a microsd slot, but im sure i can work around that with a usb on the go adapter since the htc one x supposedly has an mhl port.
at the moment, im just waiting for the other quad core phones to launch to see if there are any gems. the LG 4X interests me with its expandable storage (support for 64gb microSD), but it doesnt support the 850mhz band on 3G which would be bad for me since vodafone AU has a better 850mhz network than it does with its 900mhz network. theres also the galaxy s3 (same mali gpu but with quad core, so should perform on par with tegra3) and theres a fujitsu tegra 3 phone that has a 13.1mp camera and expandable storage coming soon as well, which should be quiet interesting.
i generally buy my phones outright... so when theres competition, theres a price drop, and thats a win for everyone!
Im gona put my Note in the drawer until ICS and probably get an One X just because i wanna surf the web from its stock web browser flawlessly in contrast to Note's choppy stock browser that loses its hardware acceleration all the time which is a big let down for me.

True! Although i'd get smooth browsing by flashing one of the custom ics roms available in the dev section, i wont have a complete and stable rom with all the features that samsung is going to include in the final ics rom! I was able to play with a demo unit of the HTC One X and I have to be frank after having used the Galaxy Note since November the screen size and quality has just become so familiar that holding anything smaller just feels odd. I might be biased to the Galaxy Note for now as there doesn't seem to be any apps that utilize all four cores and any gaming I might do would be on a PS Vita or Nintendo DS.

Hi!
I want to upgrade my DHD, and I'm looking on all the options.
So I want to check about the Note.
Is it still worth buying? I don't want to buy and after 2 month there will be Note 2 and this one will get old.
Do you recommend buying this device in two month? (I'm not talking at the device as it is, I did all that research. I'm talking only on the fact it's 7 month old... in two month it will be 9 month old)
Thanks!
Will there be a Note 2 ????? Me thinks it was one off test the waters so to speak. What would make the note better is what I ask. Apart from the latest 4.04 yeah perhaps a fast quad core proc but this thing blazes through everything as is. Only thing really different is the software look at the S3 what's the major diff is the software. (ignore quad and screen size) its the apps.
Buy the Note.
Ps just brought my note last week instead of the S3 and sold my S2
you will get used to the 5,3' screen and you will not want a phone that is smaller than the Note!
I also have HTC One X, quad core Tegra 3, 4,7' screen, but I use Note (of course on CM9) it's simply better to me
I don't want the new software, I'm only afraid there will be no more support here on XDA, as on my DHD. There are no roms coming out!
More people?
We have official cm9 support and a custom kernel..What more could you ask for?
Buy this phone now!
Sadly I can't buy it now... only in 2 month. Will it still worth buying? The device will be almost 1 year!

Why no need? If i will buy it the beginning of Aug, it will be 1 year for the announcement. You don't think they will release a new one a bit after?
I know there are lots of great phones coming out, note 2 won't be out until fall at least if at all since they're releasing the true 10 inch tablet version next. This phone is all about the screen, aside from excellent hardware. IMO you'll have a phone that'll easily last another year before you start getting jealous. It's awesome, there's nothing like it.

Development wise it's still very early days and already progress is being made although I am holding off root as it still seems too risky at the moment. Waiting for it to be as straightforward as the Desire was even without unrevoked.

We have CM9 nightlies which should only get better once ICS Kernel sources are out.
Also, the note has exceptional demand, this surprised everyone - even Samsung.
I am sure there will be another 5.1-5.5" Note 2 in about 6 months.
Samsung hit a sweet spot with the note size that appeals to people who like large screen and the ability to make calls.
Personally I am getting the S3, and when Note2 comes, I'll just switch to it.
Guys I'm thinking of buying one cause of this great price http://www.ebay.com/itm/36045880681...X:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649#ht_11855wt_922

to the OP...stop contemplating about what may happen tomorrow, get the Note today and enjoy. Life is too short. Technology will change and if you wait now, you will wait again because you will worry that a better technology will come out later.
get the Note.......and be happy with it.

i have the desire hd, and now there are no developers
once in a month there is an update for some of the roms, that includes only new apps and update of apps (as play store, g+ etc.).
Once you buy it, you would never wanna go back. It is the best out there. As far as tech goes, it keeps on evolving at a rapid pace. And GN is nothing like the iPhones where the older version seems outdated the moment newer version is launched. What we see in GS III should essentialy be in the Note II or whatever they call it. I bet it would be the same (maybe a bit tweaked) as on GS III, quad core (A15 dual core might be better than quad but it won't hit the normal, non geeky consumer. General belief: Quad > Dual, More MPs ~ better camera), maybe the same 8MP as on S3 again and such stuff. I hope the design is more in line with Note than a hybrid of S2 and GNex.
