[Q] Unknown sources on AT&T - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have an AT&T Galaxy Tab and my only issue is the inability to install programs outside of the Market (such as the new Amazon App store). I know I can root the device and then enable it, but I really don't want my device rooted at this time. So, the question is, if I root it and enable the install of unknown programs and then unroot it, will the ability to install non-market programs remain or will it reset? Thanks.
Problem hopefully solved. I will attempt to use ADB to sideload the application.

[Q] Maps can't reinstall?

Hi all!
I just got my S Galaxy S from the phone dealer who rooted my phone to the kernel 2.6.32.9 root SEI-28 #1.
I was trying to update the maps to the new v5.1.0 on the market now and it kept saying 'package was not signed correctly' since it couldn't install (but COULD download it). After some weak research I was under the impression i should use Root Manager to remove the Maps.apk file and com.google.android.apps.map.apk. Still i could not install the new maps.
(side note: i tried to backup with the root manager and apparently it did not work without me realising...bummer)
Later i find out i had the Brut Map v4.4 and tried installing that and it still does not work. Now i have no maps and cannot install either. A pretty unclean uninstall, i know, but can anyone help me resolve this problem??? Do i still need to remove some other files to uninstall it completely? i don't know much about using adb stuff though i'm happy to try anything at this point.
Thanks everyone!!

[Q] Min reqs for app install

I have recently purchased the GT-P1000 in Kuwait. It's unlocked but I don't have admin rights to it. Initially, there was no Android Market but I found the fix for that in another post.
My current dilemma now is I can't seem to get apps to install. The downloads will pause themselves and never install the application. I've had this happen to Angry Birds and Robo Defense.
As of now, I have no desire to flash this device. AFAIK, it's 3g voice/data straight out of the box and I don't want to risk losing those features.
Now, the question is, what's the bare minimum I need to do so I can install apps from Android Market and remove unwanted apps?
So I feel like an idiot now. For some reason, I can now get the apps to download and install: Angry Birds, Robo Defense, ES File Explorer, and Dropbox have installed successfully.
I still would like to remove some apps and install some that will need root access. Can someone confirm that if I root the phone that it won't affect the 3G data/voice capabilities?
ROOTING only gives you su (superuser admin) rights to your phone. It doesnt affect your phone or device functions (unless you mess around somewhere). Rooting gives you ability to access files or functions that vendor has it locked out from you. Sort of like jailbreaking the iphone.
Flashing roms is another thing. Some roms have no support to some functions But since you already own an unbranded non carrier GSM and Not CDMA tab. You shouldnt really worry.
all samsung tabs are different...so in lots oof countries they made some differnces in possibilties.
Try out by going to my weblog and after registering to download thje apks you find in the download section.
Best is to download this on another laptop..and copy the apk to the micro sd card in a folder with your name
then withe a file manager clck on the apk to see if they install
not working.....then you need to root your samsung to make it work

thanks for the info. I didn't think rooting would break anything but my paranoia got the best of me.
I rooted my phone yesterday and was able to install and run apps that need SU rights. I'm still havin trouble removing the apps that came with the Tab. Thoughts anyone?
FYI, I can uninstall apps that I've downloaded from the market.

Oho. stock apps cannot be uninstalled. Simplest way to uninstall stock apps is to use Titanium Backup Pro. Before you do that, be sure you backup the app in case you need it again later.

Non market apps

I just got a new captivate 2.2 out the box how can I enable non market apps or unknown sources?

The way I have done that is to first root your phone using Shortfuze's superoneclick root. There is also an option on that program to allow non-market apps.
ATT recently pushed an update that allowed non-market apps to be installed. This was to specifically accommodate the installation of the Amazon App Market. However nothing shows up the the settings where you are supposed to click the radio button/ check box to allow non-market apps, they just install. Try installing a non-market *.apk and if it works your phone is currently allowing non-market apps. It was working for me. If it's still not working and you don't want to root. Sideload Wonder Machine works great. Only downside to that is that it involves the use of a computer and USB cable. It is far easier than sideloading though the android sdk though.

[Q] Rooted and can't delete stock apps

I just rooted the Exhibit 4G with root-stock leaving the stock rom in place. Root shows as successful. I have tried to delete a couple of stock apps - Tel Nav (which is no longer supported) and TMobile TV. I have tried doing this with several different root app uninstall apps including ES File Explorer and DU Speed as well as two specifically root uninstall apps. All have asked for SuperUser access. Either it comes up as Uninstall Failed or it says it will delete updates and leave the original app for use. Both apps are still on the phone - and seem to be without updates as they both start as if new.
What am I doing wrong? I want to free up internal phone memory. Please help. Any guidance appreciated.
I was able to get it to work with Titanium Backup. Now all seems fine.

Convert user app to system app without root (Or with root but then unroot)

Hello guys! I've been an android user since 2011. I have experience in rooting and unrooting some of my devices but with this phone, P10, I don't want to have root for personal reasons.
There are some personal apps that I need to convert as a system app though.
So does anybody know how to convert a user app to a system app without root? Or root -> convert apps to system app -> unroot.
Most of the guides here about unrooting seems to be flashing to stock.
I have also seen (through searching) threads about moving user apps to system apps and those actually don't answer my question.
If anyone could help me, I would be very grateful!
Thanks!
You could convert most applications to system using Titanium Backup with ease, you will need root, there is no way to write to system without it. You could unroot after it, and uninstall TiB, still, I don't get why you would want to do that, but it's doable.

I'd like some apps to be installed as a system app but I don't want root as some bank apps don't play well with them.
So which method of root should I use so that I can unroot and still have my apps as a system app?
Magisk released version 16 specifically to support Huawei devices and our issues. You can pass safety net with it and hide su to damaged applications with it.
On the other hand, not sure if I would trust an Bank which puts the security on the client side as prerequisite to operate.
Do Banks require to their Windows clients not to have administrator user? No, right? (in fact, Windows OS needs a local admin account to operate). As clients we should request equal treatment. Administrator in Windows is as dangerous as root in Linux, so Banks should be honest and stop bothering clients, instead of us having to hide from them...
