Why should i get a ATT Tilt?

Hello all i am new to the sight and to "smartphones" and im thinking about getting the Att tilt. But i have heard mixed reviews on the phone most dealing with battery life and other issues. I also am curious about the touch flo and how to make my screen look like an iphone but i have no idea how to do any of this stuff. So what im looking for is pros and cons about the phone and the best add ons to put on the phone. Please help me im a noob when dealing with smartphones/pda's and i NEED guidance.

You should not buy a Tilt. You should not buy an iPhone. You should get a tin can and a string.

I know for a fact after having my Tilt for the last few months, my next device will have a h/w kb as well.

be careful doing a Google image search of the word yay at work. There are naughty bits.

I love how one asks a simple question and the rest of the community flames him. These are the types of answers that draws people away. You never know. That one person who you all are beeing so harsh on, might actually be the one to come out with real drivers for the tilt... Doesn't hurt to imagine....
Anyway to his answer: If you live in the USA then I would recommend the tilt. I personally find it the best phone out here but its not reccommended for the average user. The tilt does have a lot of problems though. One of the most noticable one is the camera, which moves tremendesly slow in low light condition but is real good if you have good lighting in your area.
Or you can wait till the new Xperia, Touch Pro to come to the US (which is what I'm doing, and yes I own a Tilt)

Correction: the camera is = to **** with low light. My friends old ass nokia phone from 1943 took a clear cripst picture with low light vs. my "high tech" tilt in the same light. In fact, the picture didn't even exist cause it couldn't autofocus!

I also highly recommend the device. It's pros definitely outweigh its cons. Yes, as said before, the camera isn't good at all with low light. Touchflo just lets you scroll using your fingers and right now it went commercial to FtouchSL. If you want your device to look like the iPhone, look into iFonz.

i recommend you get this phone. i guarantee u wont regret it

as far as the op trying to decide whether or not to get a tilt, i love my tilt, in fact i had an issue with it and when att offered me a "better" phone of comperable value(iphone and treo 750) as a replacement, i laughed and told them that if they ever insulted Lucy(my phone) again like that i would switch to t-mobile to get the front facing camera. as long as you have att you will be dissatisfied with them, but the tilt kicks ass. most people look at it and laugh when i tilt the screen up but when you use a phone that can't do that after three months with the tilt it almost hurts inside.
then again it's all a matter of preference, much more freedom with the tilt than the iphone, and if you really want the phone to look like the iphone, REALLY REALLY bad then clilck the link in my sig(my files) and it'll take you to the place to get the home screen and some decent apps to be more iphone-ish. best of luck hope you choose wisely

free drink mix software?

finally 21 and now i want software to help me get drunk in delicious fashion soo does anyone know of free software with mixes based on ingredients and such?

Here is one free one that I know of, however it is in no way the best. It actually references an online database to pull the drinks, so you would need a data plan to utilize it. It can be downloaded from freewarepocketpc at http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-pocketender.html

After looking through what was available, I'm a bit appalled by how horrible most of those apps look (and work).
I'm a former (and possibly returning) bartender and used to be a regular on one of the bigger online cocktail forums...so trust me when I say that most of the apps I saw are abysmal in both looks and function.
If there's enough interest, I'd consider throwing together an application to do this all much better. Any thoughts?

Try using www.avantgo.com and add the "Drink Boy" channel. You'll get good recipes on a nice interface that you can view and search for offline. When you're online, it updates itself. I've had a lot of fun with it.

I would definately be down. I totally concur. Half the bartender apps are outdated or are a bit difficult to navigate through. Being an amature bartender, I use my database quite a bit, but yeah if there was a program that would allow you to enter in your liquors on hand and priovide you with possibile combinations... Damn... That'd be sweet....

I freely admit, since I'm out of work right now, I'm fine with being a whore
I've already got a bit of this started, but I'm working on another project first that I think will get a lot of wide-spread usage across the forum. But I'll get back to working on this one very soon.
In the mean time, are there any particular features anybody is looking for. I'm sure it'll be easy enough to figure out all of the features the drinkers want, but what about bartenders? Tell me how often you think you'll be entering drinks, what extra features do you need. Will you actually be using this while at work...with your fingers?
I know this is in the Raph section, though it belongs in Q&A or D&H, but does anybody here want a QVGA version, or dare I ask, W(Q)VGA? If this app is going to see finger-based controls (which I'd expect to make sense), it's not really going to work out having small windows controls, so graphics/resolution will be considered for the first version.

I used to be a regular contributor to the forums there...The biggest problem is that the drink database is absolutely cluttered with incorrect entries and missing a lot of common recipes.
When I start building a collection of recipes, there's actually a couple of people from that forum that I'm going to ask for help/collaboration. I'm also going to throw them a heads up to ask for any thoughts from them on what they would like to see.

Any update on this app being made?? Im very anxious to have it...

lol, from me, it'll be at least a couple of weeks. I'm in the middle of working on another app that'll be quite a bit more relevant on this forum. But I will be coming back to this app shortly.
I'll post more info to this thread when I start it, and then I'll create a release thread in D&H (and post a link to it here) when there's a reasonably good start on a beta version.
You can help out by giving some ideas of what features you'd like to see in it.

this is very cool that you'd consider putting an app together, pour...the best reference app/source I've found is that DrinkBoy channel on avantgo. That said, my advice would be keep it very simple. Not only will this, hopefully, take burden and time from your investment to the group, but I don't think I'd be looking for anything other than:
-thorough database with accuracy on both contents and how to prepare
-a "my favorites" option for quick look-ups and personalization
-organize at the root based on main ingredient (e.g. rum, vodka, bourbon)
-a search option with fuzzy-esque searchability (e.g. southside, southsides or southsider would produce the same drink recipe)
I guess these may end up being more work than I thought but an accurate db, easy search and browse engine with a "my fav's" organizer would be PERFECTION for me!!

I kinda suspect, with luck, my app will draw attention from hopefully every group....the college students, bar patrons, and even bartenders from different types of places. For that reason, a "simple" app might not be too likely. Simple interface is definitely part of my plan, but the application itself is going to be pretty powerful and probably meant to cover a lot of people's uses.

- Favorites will be very easy to implement, so this is pretty much a sure thing.
- The database itself is a subject I intend to take more seriously than a lot of people probably expect (more on that in the future).
- I've got several ideas for searches/filters, each will be fleshed out as I build it. I'm aiming mostly for live searches and the first will be using quick ingredient filtering.
- fuzzy search...I'll see what I can do, but that's one I know very little about. Some quick googling turned up some information that's possibly VERY usable, but it's all written for the the big brother .Net Framework while the Compact Framework gets no love. I'll bookmark some of this stuff and see where I can go with it after I've released a first version. As much as it might be cool, I can't justify porting Lucene.Net to the compact framework for this project. In the mean time, I can use a "Sounds Like" mechanism that would probably do pretty well for an early version. I'm also a little worried about performance.
As a note, I'd previously said that I wouldn't be starting this until I finished another application. I feel a little dumb for not seeing it sooner, but I discovered Sashimi exists (though I haven't started testing it). While it sorely lacks about half of the features I planned to build, it does a far better job at the other half of the features I had in mind. I'm going to try out Sashimi for a while to determine if there's enough reason to build my app (or possibly a configurator/extension of sorts for use with Sashimi, if possible). As a result, I'm going to put that project on hold and move on to this one.
Second note...err, request actually...I'm ok with graphics...sometimes...But I want to make this app graphically attractive and possibly add skinning ability. At the very least, I will need a few decent looking icons for a few things, at the most, it might turn into an entire interface design. One of my goals is to make this app roughly comparable to something people might expect to buy form the iPhone AppStore (after all, everybody is *****ing about the lack of pretty WM apps). So, if anybody has decent graphics skills and is up for helping out, drop me a line and we'll bump some ideas around when I get to the right stage.

ermm. you are not supposed to talk about the soak anywhere. its a confidential test. i suggest if you want to stay on as a soak tester.... you dont follow up on this thread. nor make any others about it. everyone will have it in a week, and verizon is the last to push this update. so what could you do that everyone doesnt already know? and why would ya threaten your ability to get the updates a week before everyone else? it just aint worth it.
edit: i forwarded this to the forums/soak manager over at moto. not to rat you out, but to hopefully deter you and any other soak tester from making the same mistake. i enjoy being a part of the soak. and dont want people like you jeopardizing my joy in getting the updates early.

hahaha i really hope this guy is serious. thats why they put those legal things in those emails. You can scare the **** out of people with those things even though they never do anything about it and expect it to get leaked lol.
Who would hire someone to troll around forums to see if they could not send the soak test that they send to thousands to particular people talking about it (given talking about it is free advertising from them so it would make little sense).
In response to the OP. I say you download that soak test, share it with everyone, and email MOTO MANAGER OF PEOPLE ON SOAK TESTS THAT TALKED ABOUT IT PERSON OF DEATH to let him know what you have done! and prepare to be punished..

lol. im not on a high horse. i am nipping this in the butt. im not even trying to play 'hall monitor'. i just respect the process that moto uses. if you notice... there arent exactly a slew of peeps running around here talking about the soaks. i would imagine its because they also respect the process. either that or they, like me, realize people can wait a week because its not the end of the world.
there are support forums on the moto site. somebody has to run them. if you want in on the soak...

I don't want the soak. I'm on att running the T-Mobile SS ROM. Its great to get the soak out to developers because a lot of the time it brings up problems and work arounds BEFORE the general public get to screw up their phone. BTW, a "soak test" is not confidential. Its a sign up option.

you have to accept a tos/confidentiality agreement, and they are pretty strict on how things are done on the support forums during soaks.
around here.. .the only thing they would care about is whether or not the exploits were patched, new exploits to exploit, or whether or not they can slap it into their roms before moto gets a chance to release it for themselves. as i more or less said previously... history has shown that its usually just a week. it doesnt take devs to find the bugs either. just regular people that are 'in tune' with their device. i get that having devs on hand for the soak would be beneficial as it puts more hands on the keyboards to fix those bugs. but judging on how moto works against the dev community with bootloaders and lack of source drops... id say its pretty obvious that they dont want dev help. <---which i ultimately dont agree with. but thats another thread all together.
i realize now that i should have just kept my mouth shut. things always get out of hand online. hopefully i explained my thoughts and reasoning better with this post. if not... oh well. i tried.

Yes. When I worked at Motorola I knew a few people who were tasked to search for forums leakers of software. And yes, there is typically a confidentiality agreement for signing up for it.

Here's a clock I did for m7 that works on m8. @BD619 tested it. It's a little sloppy but that's cause I did on PS on my tablet. Anyone is welcome to clean up the white corners.

I wish I had one but after my device was stolen, I took a deal on a G2 I couldn't refuse. Stuck on contract for two years.

Must be pretty poular amoungst thieves. Mine was stolen a few weeks ago. Lucky for me i had the insurance on it so it was replaced. weird tho, same phone it just doesnt feel the same.

I hear ya there.
My daughter upgraded to the same phone and same color. Holding it doesn't feel like mine did.
I think it is psychological after knowing some thief has ours. I can't stand a thief or a liar. Those people are scum.

The way cell phones are these days with all the technology people dont realize what they are stealing from some folks. Monitarily in my case,$679.00 for the phone,$150.00 for the Seidio case, $150.00 for the 64gb class10 sdcard. My whole life was on my phone. Personal contacts, Company contacts, Customer numbers, employee numbers, Vendor numbers, everything. Believe me i was PI$$ED OFF!!!. The thief had now idea how important that device was. The phone was deactivated minutes later and put on a hot list with Sprint and the Odessa PD so it couldnt be used or activated. More than likely ended up in a trash can somewhere. So this being said, yeah the whole scenario just blew me out. What really chaps my ass is im out a $1000.00, and a couple days business and the little f#@&er that stole it is running scott free smiling saying "Oh well, ill just steal another one". Little [email protected] lucky i didnt catch him.

Thieves don't care about what damage they do to anyone else. They want everything for free and yes, they laugh about how much trouble they cause others. They probably took the device, changed esn and flashed it to Boost or something and sold it. Sprint will never find it. Could be they stole it for parts or more than likely they are pervs just looking for naked pictures. Using it for a camera or taking advantage of the great beats audio. I know where my punk thief is and what chaps my butt about it, he was one of us and I trusted him.

Cooincidence or long Term Plan Googles ? Why Android is called android

Ever since i was puzzled why Google calls thier MobileOS Android. I know the explanation about the 90s Game still i never bought it.
Still now with Rapid growing new AI Technology, more and more Datacollecting it hit he. Better late then never.
Android seems to be supposed to not only include Humans into their Big Ai and Data Network, now make it part as their Workforce.
And it was planned so from the beginning, with a very bold clue even in the Naming.
If we look closely it is already doing that. Not only collecting your personal preferences, need and thoughs but also using everyone of us to collect data. If as simple as collecting Wifi Networknames to map the world, or using the GPS/Maps data to Map current Traffic. Or more complex things hidden in our daily Data.
Googles newest Effort, now let us use their Neural Network to analys Data,.. looks like someone wants to learn a lot.
it really apeears to me that not the OS is Android itself alone, but the combination OS and User is the Android.
That google wants to be in every aspect of our life isnt something new, but that we are in googles life is kinda something not outspoken. Were Part of that machinery, bribed with free Services that arent even Services they are simply Tools and we are their willing workers. And i have that strange feeling that this isnt something that just happend, more that this is part of a very big long though plan (i dont call it business plan for a reason).
Well as long this stays passive, well fine who cares you could say.
But is it really passive?
How much are we influenced by filtered Data tailored for us personally.
How much is there to come ?
And what will happen when it wakes up ?
As an Interresting sidenote was microsoft AI on twitter who became a nazi propagate genozide within 24 hours.
Ofc can be simply bad coding by MS, or just a natural reaction of any Inteligence to Human socieity on the net, who knows..

if there is some day an all knowing everything controlling AI why should it rely on human ways of control and war?
i think there much sneakier ways to reduce mankind to nothing if that AI really wants to, hell we would do the work for it without knowing.

Not everyone relies on computers or has an online presence. So human killing robots is the best way to be sure to get everyone. In my humble opinion. :good:

The Microsoft thing was misreported as click-bait to sucker people who will believe anything they read. The phrase "repeat after me..." was used to make it repeat offensive phrases. It did not "decide" that it liked Hitler - it did what it was told.

Not the point. Practically everyone relys of computer if you use em or not, if he knows that or not.
Energy, Food, Money,information and communication,.... take whatever you want, its all running now deeply dependent on computers and networks.
you dont need to kill mankind, if you control every little piece of imnformation you control the people.
look like countries like north korea work. still they need violence but most people there really think kim is a god.
and if the biug AI wants to kill us, well simply change a few numbers.
