Hmm.... Did you not understand no?

Simple answer is if you would have searched it would have led you to your answers. The custom roms are about as close as you will get to Gingerbread. From the looks of things the captivate will not get gingerbread other then in ported or custom roms.

[Q]Cyanogenmod 7.1

should i install a froyo rom before i flash cyanogenmod 7.1???
No, cm 7.1 works better when your install base is Samsung gingerbread because of the bootloaders.
P.S. you don't need to create a topic when there is already thread for Q&A regarding CM7

okay i tried to install it on jvs 2.3.5 now the phone shows cyanogenmod icon and keeps rebooting :S
Known issue. Flash it again from recovery and it should work.
Dont forget to clear dalvik cache.
thanks a lot m8

Lemme know how it runs, and if you've tried other custom roms and how it fairs against them please
Thanks

It runs great, of course.
CyanogenMod is by far my favourite ROM. I highly suggest it if you're a fan of power and awesomeness.

The very same thread u're referring to says one needs to running rooted Eclair/Froyo Bootloader.
My question is, Do i really need to Downgrade to Froyo if I'm already on stock Gingerbread?
and also, How would we know if Gingerbread bootloader becomes "safe" in future, if ever?

No need to downgrade, GB bootloaders are safe.
In the early(er) CM7 days Froyo bootloaders were needed for CM, for the last couple of months both bootloaders are supported, and GB bootloaders are preferred because of lower batt drain.
If needed you can always go back to Froyo bootloaders using Odinn/Heimdall.

Thanks for clarifying.
but, just to be sure, can you give me some link to any source that says this? every thread i could find tells you to downgrade first...

Can't find a source stating this, but i'm running CM7 with GB Bootloaders. Only risk you were running installing CM7 on GB was that your external SD-Card wouldn't be recognized, and there was a Loadscreen glitch when the phone booted.
Those issues was fixed a couple months ago, so there is no problem flashing CM7 over GB Bootloaders.

only if you run onecosmic's ICS rom ...
still to be implemented in latest build of CM9 (teamhacksung)
won't work on non-ICS roms
ah i should have guessed, is that the only rom that it will work with for the time being or?

I don't think it'll work anytime for non-ICS roms (though if some dev decides then anything can happen )
it'll be implemented in CM9 for sure.. (it was working till Build 9)
Yup you need to flash the newest ics but you really shud try it if u didn't, its pretty cool
I know I sound really stupid but what is the newest?
I mean I look in the Dev section and I see quite a few roms with ICS in the title and I dont want to pick one that is crappy

The two latest ones are build 11 from teamhacksung and RC1 from oncecosmic .. both based on android 4.0.3 .... my personal opinion is trying out onecosmic's.. I have tried both and like this one better and much more stable and with more features...
Alrighty If I can find his thread I'll try it
I couldn't find it last time i looked though!
Edit: I'm a moron and looked properly and found it

where is our ics?

Shouldn't we have a ics ported over already.....a fully cooked one?
A fully cooked ICS?
Sounds messy.
Nope. We need a leak from Samsung. CM9 can't be finished without some additional drivers. But it'll come, so don't worry.

The thread is based on various leaked and cooked roms with ICS for the Desire HD for example or the Galaxy S2. But honestly Samsung promised ICS in march for us so its not that far away its only a months wait .
Compare that to LG for example........
Its anytime now
@Taptalk-GalaxyNote
I think Samsung may be working on different UI for Note.

[Q] Putting Touchwiz Framework on ICS.

How do I put touchwiz framework and apps on an ICS rom? I currently use darknight.
You don't. Ics is ported from google source, with a completely different partition type. Same reason you can't put/use tw stuff on cm7/MIUI
Why would you want to?

Not entirely true, I have used a TouchWiz CM7 theme that made the phone look like stock. It's obviously not actual TouchWiz, it just looks like it. The apps are definitely a no

[Q] ICS SMemo and SNote for custom roms?

Hello Forum!
I am enjoying CyanogenMod on my Note and wonder why SNote and SMemo from the official ICS update have not been ported yet. Do those Samsung Apps require a special kernel and will they ever be implemented in AOSP ROMs?
Best wishes
suxi
It should be possible....
I'm not sure for sNote, but u can find smemo from this thread :

Those require TW framework to work, so it's a no-go at CM9 or its derivatives ATM.
The emphasis being on ATM. Be patient.
@chasmodo, do you mean they're working on porting tw_framework or about the opendesign implementation as seen on opendesign.droidbbq.com?

I was hoping you'd say that . I'm anxious to see what the devs will cook up, seeing that the CM9 ICS already functions much better than Samsung's official ICS.
Thanks for your answers!
