So today i installed a gps speedometer app and it would not work. Just read 0 mph. My gps was on. Tried a different app and still the same thing. Has anyone tried one of these apps and had it working? I know my gps is working cause if i go to maps it locks my location almost instantly.
Im running das bamf 1.4.
i have installe a few, and it seems i always have to "jump start" them by using something like google maps to get my GPS going. then all is good.
Thanks for the tip, i'll try that tomorrow.
I download the app GPS Status. In that app I did this:
Menu, Tools, Manage A-GPS state
Reset
Menu, Tools, Manage A-GPS state
Download
Now I get a GPS lock in seconds. Hope that helps.

Whenever I use the navigation feature in Maps, it gets stuck on "Searching for GPS." I've left it like that overnight and nothing happened. The entire time, the GPS icon in the notification bar is blinking. I've downloaded the GPS Status app and it can't seem to be able to find my location either.
I've tried wiping everything, installing different roms, reinstalling the radio but nothing seems to be able to fix the problem. Navigation worked fine before. This problem just popped up out of nowhere. I've tried it when I'm outside, in different cities, but that hasn't helped. I unlocked my phone so I'm a bit concerned about having to send it into HTC.
Anyone else have the same problem or have any suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
i'm having the same problem, N1 CM7.0.3 ROM
I've wiped the cache and data on the Maps APP, still having the same problem.
Any help
I sometimes get this issue
I fix it by turning off the GPS, waiting till the GPS icon disappears from the notification bar, then turn on the GPS again. and it gets a GPS lock right away.
one method which helps me to troubleshoot GPS in N1 is to install the free apps GPS status. under sub-menus tools, manage A-GPS state, there is the option to reset GPS data (essentially a reboot of GPS w/o powering off the phone). often when i completed that procedure, and downloaded new GPS assistance data (via wifi, should take no time), GPS lock-on could be achieved within a minute provided i'm outdoor or near window. if GPS lock-on can be achieved with GPS status, then, in theory, the same can be achieved in google map or in car mode. if google map still can lock on to the GPS signals, then i may get another google apps package and flash it into the phone again.
i do come across some custom roms in which GPS function has become crippled, but CM7.0.3 is NOT one of them.
Just exchanged my Captivate again (3rd one in 2 days) after my perfectly working Captivate (GPS too...) was bricked by the update. The first two wouldn't even find a satellite.
Now, this one finds 10-12 satellites but won't lock onto a single satellite. I tried both the spirent-lcs.com and supl.google.com settings. Just nothing locks on... I tried both on GPS Test and the Lbstestmode Performance Test.
Right now it shows 13 Satellites in view - with a dBHz ranging from 42.0 to 12.0.
I know people have trouble finding satellites, but this thing is finding so many, just won't use any of them...
Any ideas?

ideas:
1. be prepared to wait for gps fix from samsung
2. find Vibrant files that were ported over and seemed to fix GPS for many.
reset the phone to box stock. Download "GPS Test" from the market. Go outside under wide open clear skies (no alleys, walls, windows). Run GPS test. Watch it for 5 full minutes... report back. Sometimes that first lock takes quite a while.
I actually used the factory reset dialer number last night and reset the phone. Didn't work. As I was going to return the phone today to AT&T I reset the phone again to get rid of all my contacts and such and right as I'm standing outside the store... GPS locks on within seconds within 10 feet or so.
Since then, GPS has been working. Shut-off my phone, turned it on back in my basement, still a lock. Navigation stays locked.
Hope it stays this way as tomorrow is the final day of my 30day return period...!
take it back while you can - i SURE WISH I had.... :-(
I was having a lot of problems as well until i just downloaded LBS TEST MODE app from the market and tweeked the settings, now I can get a lock immediately as long as I use Get Position Test through LBS TEST MODE first. Then provides a lock through all my gps using apps.
EDIT: My settings in LBS TEST MODE are MS BASED, SKYHOOK on, Custom Config, Server, supl.google.com, and server 7276. and most importantly SUPL Secure Socket OFF. hope this helps
and btw the LBS test mode app will get you to the LBS test mode screen after the JH7 update.

If you use LauncherPro you can still get to it by using:
Shortcut -> Activities -> Lbstestmode
I'm trying to connect to my magellan maestro gps unit. In settings, the bluetooth says paired but not connected. This is where bluegps comes in, right? In bluegps, I chose the magellan unit and then right below it I pressed it to try to connect. But everytime I try to connect, it disconnects saying "Cannot start: Too many connection problems".
Yes, the maestro unit has pairing and connection on. It recognizes the gtab as vegan 5.1.1.
What settings in the bluegps I need to do?
I was having similar issues with the application, so based on another thread, I tried out Googoo Android's Bluetooth GPS. It's available on the Market, but you'll have to sideload it from another device or find the APK (posted on another thread here). That application worked much better for me.
I use 'Bluetooth GPS Provider'
https://market.android.com/details?id=de.mobilej.btgps&feature=search_result
Has been the most stable for me.
If you can't load from market, here is a copy in my DropBox.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9669866/BluetoothGPSprovider.apk
Figured out what's wrong. After reading around the net, figured out that the gps unit I have only allows bluetooth connection to transfer data files. GPS signal won't share.
Thanks Zaphod-Beeblebrox

You're awesome. I've been searching around for a couple of days now trying to get my bluetooth G-Sat gps to pair with my new gtab. After grabbing 'Bluetooth GPS Provider' from your dropbox and installing via adb, I'm now able to use the gps puck, thanks.

I've actually had that app cause my tablet to freeze twice now and I had to force a reboot (tap the hell out of the power button). TnT Lite 4.4.0. I'm wondering if it's an isolated issue or no because before the thing froze, it was working rather well.
i got my bt gps unit working in google maps.. but that is no good driving around. and cannot get sygic aura or mobile maps to work.

Here are a lot of threads about Bluetooth GPS and need of data connection when using Google maps.
Therefore you need GPS software with pre-loaded maps, like CoPilot.
It's on the market around $5.00 for USA.
I use it and love it!! LOL

Possibly different kernel??
Gps Status app not showing satellites for some reason ??
Latitude & longitude seem ok anyone else having this problem ?
I do have stand alone gps turned on & internet data assist on in app
Google locate & verizon locate are off
Have you tried turning google locate on? I've had several apps that either wouldn't locate or would take a very long time (when standing outside) to get a lock with just stand alone gps.

Where are they supposed to be shown? Not sure what I"m looking for. Seems to be working, but, like you say, I don't see any specific satellites anywhere.

For the GPS... Turn GPS on, go into Angry GPS (*#*#3214789650#*#*). Under Settings/ Supl Settings/ Change the Server to supl.google.com and change the Server Port to 7276 . Select Done. Then hit back twice and select Delete GPS Data. Then hit back twice and u should be home. Install the free GPS Test app from the Market and check it. U should be a whole lot better now.

I did this still no change shows 6 satellites but never locks ......
I used to have same issue one of reasons I moved up to JB custom. GPS worst case in the house about 90 seconds after reboot. After first lock normally less than 30 sec.

it is giving me some results when I use Samsung GPS restore app .........it just connects and again within seconds looses connection and it keeps on repeating again and again
It's a hardware problem
The early Galaxy S variants just have weak GPS hardware. They may have fixed it mid-stream on some of the later-built ones, but my early Captivate (from August 2010) has just never worked very well, no matter which ROM, no matter which workaround/"fix". It will eventually lock, but usually take 10+ minutes, and even once it has, it loses lock frequently, and even when it claims to have lock, the location is inaccurate.
I bought one of these and it works well with this app.
I admit it's a bit inconvenient, but the thing is very small-- I even run/bike with it, just tucked into the strap of the armband I keep my phone in. And it's fine for navigation in the car. If you have a later-built device maybe some of the workarounds will help you, but replacing the hardware is the only solution that's worked for me.
okay, afaik, based on my experience with cappy gps, you don't need hardware mods. its just got a gps antenna location that is not so good and bad factory config files.
I'm not aware of samsung reving the gps hardware on cappy, but they did make changes to software but left lousy config files.
if you need gps comparable to standalone gps units, then follow the advice re separate bluetooth unit, else read on before spending bucks.
just correcting the config files has worked great for me.
I think you should:
1. uninstall faster fix, it caused me to lose good gps locks and others have posted same experience.
then:
make sure you've got angrygps app on your cappy. if not, search xda, several folks posted the apk.
look for an xda thread on 'hellstorm gps' and install that fix. for more info, see canovas thread on gps fix.
also:
open angrygps or edit secgps.conf to make sure mode is msbased.
also set agps mode on (=1 if you are manually editing file). the location of secgps.conf varies with rom you are using. mine is in data/data/gps folder.
I like gps status app for testing.
Mine locks usually about 10 sec. Sometimes 20-30 sec if I am moving and gps wasn't started before I started driving.
once or twice a month, google maps or nav goes wahwah and can't seem to get a lock. A quick disable/enable gps toggle in settings and it gets a stable lock again in a few seconds.
