I tried to install CM7 right out of the box and now I have read and tried every option to try to get my nook back to at least stock.
I'm coming from the Nexus S scene where a good fresh nandroid back up work like a charm.
I'm thinking it might not be so easy with my nook color, but I figured it's worth a shot.
If any one has a nandroid back up stock or a fresh CM7 install, I would love to give it a try because the only thing I can do with my nook is boot into Clockwork from an SD card!!!!!
Any help would be great, I have been reading an searching, maybe I'm just missing something.
What?
You're crazy.
Use and SD image of clockwork.
Download CM7, gapps, OC'd kernel to it
format system, data, cache.
Flash CM7, gapps, OC'd kernel.
Reboot.

You have a couple of options. You can flash the latest nightly from recovery using your sd card follow instructions for that.(must use 3.0.1.0). Remove the card before you reboot. Also, if you want clockwork internally, grab the 3.0.1.0 from the link below and flash it with your sd card, then the rom. If you are flashing something stock, you would need to use clockwork 3.0.0.5.

Thank you. Sorry for the delay but I'm sure the problem was I was following a guide that linked and old version of Clockwork.
It all worked perfect once I had 3.0.1.0

My nook color isn't necessarily bricked.... I have phiremod v2 installed on it and for the last 3 days have been trying to uninstall/flash another ROM so i can go back to phiremod v1 or try another ROM. However, I absolutely can not get my nook to boot into clockwork recovery. I've tried every size of the CWM download ranging from 128mb-8gb (my card). I've tried monster's rootpack and everything. When i burn it with winimage, it makes the bootable SD card like usual when i flash roms, but my nook doesn't recognize it and just boots up like normal into phiremod. I've tried EXT4 versions of the CWM and still nothing happens. It just boots normally every time. If anyone knows what to do i would be forever grateful........Thanks in advance for any help, i'd be glad to return the favor somehow.
an addendum to my previous post - my nook is now bricked. i tried rebooting it and once it was off, it will now no longer turn back on. of course i can't use a bootable SD card because they no longer work in my nook
just waiting, and when it released EXT4 internal CWM,
Try a Complete format of the SD card and then Flash a Virgin Nookie Froyo rom on it. Also remember that Windows only sees the first partition of the MicroSD so doing a Normal format will only Wipe the First partition. I reccomend the GParted Live CD if you don't have Linux to make sure you completly format the card to FAT. If you can get that working browse the Topics in the Dev forum and Find the one on Reflashing Virgin Stock. If you can't get Stock reflashed then you're sortof screwed because you can't just send it in to B&N in the condition it's in.

I have the same problem but I am using phiremod v4, I have flashed CWR using Rom manager and nothing, it just keeps booting into phiremod. I tired using a bot-able CWR sd card that worked in the past. The problem actually started while I was in CWR and it basically crashed on me and booted into phiremod, I now cant for the life of me get back into CWR...
In the end you have no choice but to flash back to virgin stock. I reccomend making a Nookie Froyo card to mount the emmc and recover what you can and then follow one of the guides in the Dev forum to completely wipe and restore virgin Stock.
Doing anything else at this point just decreases the amount of possible data recovery.

I was trying to backup my autonootered 3.0 stock, I flashed cwm using the rom manager method, rebooted. Now I can't get out of cwm, it keeps booting to it after a full power down and power on. Also, my SD card won't mount so it won't read whats on it. Any help/suggestions please?
Here's how to Remove CWM and Flash back to Clean Stock:

Are you POSITIVE that the partition on the bootable sd extends ALL the way to the zerobit? If you have consistently flashed sds of bootable .imgs, and none work, check that first, next I would assume that you need to push RecoveryFix.zip from other thread.
Ir you don't mind time-travel back 7 years....

I downloaded stock firmware from our site here and placed the zip in my SD card. Cyanogen logo comes up and when I look at everything, it seems that Phiremod is still in play. I even removed all (?) Phiremod and Clockwork Recovery files / folders fom the SD Card. Should I be starting with a fresh SD card and / or removing the card, doing some factory reset and then reinserting the card with the stock firmware?
I was trying to create a dual boot SD Card and I think I bricked my Nook.
First, I flashed Phiremod to my card and everything was successful. There is an option to "add" CM7 and I tried that and thought it didn't work.
Later I flashed Divine Madcat's Honeycomb Hybrid to my SD card and it is running successfully.
I popped out the SD card to run the Nook OS and nothing. Instead I have the load screen for CM7.
What do I do to get the Nook OS back and is it possible to just flash another rom to my SD. HELP!!! What's a man to do?
Thanks!

I'm unsure as to how you went about this. What method are you using to install these roms? Are you using the dualboot phiremod/honeycomb .img? And what option are you talking about "option to add CM7"?
Need some clarification so I can help troubleshoot ur issue.
Thanks,
Racks

In the section of Rom Manager there is a menu to add roms. I added CM7 and nothing happened... or so I thought. It told me to add through clockwork recovery.

If you try to flash through rom manager. It will flash to your emmc and not ur sdcard rom . So it probably have written over your emmc boot and system files.
Did you flash the CWM Recovery through rom manager as well? If you did. That will overwrite your stock recovery. So you wont be able to do the 8 failed revolts to return to stock.
Check in the dev threads for steps to restore your nook to stock rom.

Ok thanks... I'm new to the whole rooting thing. I figured it had flashed to the internal memory. I finally got the boot screen off and I have a fully running CM7 on my Nook. Looks just like Phiremod minus a few features. I'll look to restore back to stock in the other forum.

it's actually the other way around. Phiremod is based from CM7.
I have 2 nook colors one for me and one for my girlfriend, I am/was running CM 7 on them. Its been awhile since ive updated them. Ive tried the newest nightly and the latest STABLE release. Both got hung up on the same spot. The green CM logo will say its loading then it will go into a black screen lit by the backlight and just hangs there. no boot animation, no boot loop. Just sits there. Or It will just reboot itself back into clockwork after saying it installed the rom. Ive used the CWM removal and that made it just hung on a nook bootup screen.
Ive let it sit for 15 minutes and nothing. Im not new as ive rooted my og droid, my dx and 2 nook colors. I havent really had this issue with the nooks. not really sure what to do. Ive wiped data/cache formatted the symsted, data and cache and nothing.
My steps are as follows.
1)Download either Phiremod test 7 or ANY CM nightly
2) plug my data sdcard into my computer and transfer
3)boot into clockwork
4)Wipe pretty much everything (I also tried installing on top of the stable releases)
5)Install.
I know to expect issues but there HAS to be something im doing wrong that lets one nook install flawlessly and another nook that wont install any nightly or test build. If it didnt boot up they wouldnt leak the nightly. Its something on my end. I gotta figure it out
I also just went back to stock and re-rooted and I have the same issue

You probably have the wrong bootloader and kernel...the newest cm7s are based on the 2.6.32, not the older 2.6.29 (or something), and the newest 1.2 bootloader..which you probably don't have if it's "been awhile"..lol...You have to upgrade your Cwm first, from 3.0.1.0 to 3.0.2.8, I think, then flash your Cwm to a nightly after 86??(Google to check), and it will change your boot partition to the correct one...If your nook still says "touch the future", you're on the wrong bootloader.....Also, quit using Phiremod.....it's a copy of Cm7 first of all, but by the time it's released, it's already outdated, it's not updated like it should be, and it's Douchey. Google the basics of what I described above if it sounds like that might be your problem and lmk how it works out for you....Btw....I used nightly 106 for this exact thing on another of my Nooks a few days ago and it worked flawlessly...There are newer nightlies out, but that one for sure worked.....

I might be confused; Is one of your Nooks OK or are they both refusing to boot anything based on the .32 Linux kernel?
As I read it you aren't having trouble loading either with 7.0.3 stable. Correct?
The only thing I could suggest is loading the stable version, downloading the latest nightly CM (skip Phiredrop's theme for now) DIRECTLY to the SD card (skip the computer step), and do a factory reset and format boot, system, data, and cache (all four).
Load just the nightly and gapps (save the OC kernel for later), and then see if THAT boots all the way up.
Of course make sure you have a full backup of the stable OS install before you start.
If none of that works, then prepare the SD card as an install card and try that. Do you have just the one card?
Thanks for the replies....I thought 3.2.0.1 was the newest clockwork? I guess I need to pay more attention to the nook. lmao Mazook I think you are on the right track. Also to the phiremod is that the og droid equivalent to UD? hahahaha I actually liked the look of phiremod but i digress...
On that note I installed the uboot 1.2 and flashed it and it still boots into clockwork but that maybe because I may be on an outdated cwm im the one i stated above

If I remember correctly, you can't just jump from 3.0.0.6 or 3.0.1.0 to newest...there's one in between that transitions the upgrade in bootloaders...I'm pretty sure I went 3.0.1.0 to 3.0.2.8 to flashing Cm7 nightly 106...then to upgrade to Cwm 3.2.0.1 while in Rom manager, while using Cm7....leSigh....Clockworkmod is the only thing I can't stand about using my Nook....(though I rarely need it any more) AmonRa is such a better (and fully functional) recovery build...One thing I wish we had gotten.....

While in Rom Manager, go to "flash older clockworckmod recoveries ".....then choose 3.0.2.8 (Make a nandroid first) and have all the stuff you want to flash ready to go on the SD...then go into recovery from Rom Manager, which will put you in 3.0.2.8......if that doesn't do it, try the same thing again, but go to 3.0.1.0 first....then, once you get into a working cm7 with 3.0.1.0, try it all again.(upgrade to 3.0.2.8 by" try it all again" , but this time from 3.0.1.0)...you're basically trying to reinstall your boot partition, but in a different location than where it is now...its a hassle, but you can do it through just rom manager.....it's just a hassle...

Well Id love to try that but.....My nook wont turn on. It was fully charged today. Im either gonna make a bootable cwm or go back to stock and root again. I dont know if that will work though because its not even powering up.
Ok....i think im making progess....The newest nightly just goes into a bootloop. better than a clockwork bootloop i guess..... any advice on how to get it to install properly? i feel like im making progress. normal bootloops are better than what i was getting
Bueller............Bueller lmao.
Seriously though.....if anybody can figure this out it would make my year
Try this, install stock 1.2....
boot it up, go through the annoying setup, log into google apps, then power down.
Boot into CWR SD, this should have the os that you want already on it, and the google apps file.
THen click install from zip, choose zip, install the OS, after complete install google apps, then restart without sd
Do not format anything, it should do the trick.
I attempted to put Phiremod onto my NC, but I formatted the boot partition so it doesn't start up. What's the easiest way to get my Nook going again?
Try using a CWR SD Card, and either flashing a nightly zip, or one of the U-Boot files floating around.
I think I just need to flash a proper boot file, which should I try for either CM7 or Phiremod?
Can anyone help me out? The sticky seems a bit outdated or maybe it's just confusing me.
I have a 2GB uSD card and I just want to try out Phiremod and the stable CM7 to see which I prefer. Do I have really have to restore to stock just to overwrite it again?
I decided to completely restore to stock firmware to see if I could get this thing to work. I downloaded the complete 1.0.1 zip, loaded it on my CWM recovery uSD card, formatted boot, system, data, and cache, flashed the recovery zip and then rebooted.... Didn't boot
I need help, what am I missing?
Follow sticky carefully, it works.

Do the 8 re-boot step. There is also a boot fix zip file or recovery zip file you can flash via your CWM SD.
I flashed the 3.2.0.8 recovery zip, but it still doesn't boot
Download this to your CWM sd card. And this. Then put in your CWM sd card, boot it up, flash the update_nc_stock_1.2.zip file, then ManualNooter. Take out the sd card and reboot. Should have stock + root.
Thank you, but I don't even want to use the B&N software. Either CM7 or Phiremod.
Can't I just repair the boot partition?
I went ahead and flashed the update-nc-stock-1.2-signed.zip then manual nooter
Took the card out and rebooted, nothing happens
Did you reboot? What do you see?
Nothing, screen doesn't come on
Help please!
Oh. Have your tried flashing this?
Where did you find that on the CM site? All I found under Nook Color were the 'update' zips
Downloading now
Ahh, it's a nightly CM7 build... I assume that it will completely format the EMMC?
Downloaded and flashed the latest nightly zip, still won't boot.........
Anyone else have any ideas I could try?
Perhaps I missed where you said you did it, but go back and take the Nook completely back to stock. I umderstand that you said you don't want to use to stock software at all, but you need to get it back to factory so you can at least boot the device.
Once you've done that, go ahead and follow the directions TO THE LETTER to load your CM7 or Phiremod.
Cliffs Notes: Trying to repair something when you can't even boot is a bit silly. Just start from square one and root. Enjoy!
Back in May I got a nook HD+ and installed the latest nightly build very easily to SD card. Lately its been kinda slow and wanted to install 10.1.3-RC2. First, I took out the working card and used a new one (backup purposes). First I downloaded cm-10.1.30RC2-ovation.zip with the nook to the downloads folder. With the new card I used win32diskimager to image sdcard-only sdcard-cwm-ovation-sdv1.img.zip. I installed it like I did back in May and Im not sure what happened but I did something wrong and if I leave the card in to boot, it goes to CWM v6.0.3.2. If I take the card out it just hangs at the cyanogen circle just keeps going around forever. I can't get back to the stock nook os at all (although I dont ever want to use the stock nook os anyways).
I re-imaged two cards with a fresh download of the files and still having problems. I tried wiping the data/factory reset and wite cache partition then reinstall cyanogen for something to try, but same results. I also tried the a hybrid install using sdcard-cwm-ovation-hybridv3.zip but same results.
Good thing is that the original card I made back in May still works same as always (however when I use it after re-trying to install 10.1.3 a screen comes up "android is updating optimizing app XXX of 227)-only for the first time after trying a reinstall.
Im not sure what I did. Any ideas for something to try?
The problem is that rc2 is for installing on internal memory and you are trying to install it to SD. So instead of installing to SD, it installed it to internal memory and messed up stock.
To fix it, first download one of my plain stock ROM zips from my HD/HD+ CWM thread linked in my signature. See item 6. Then burn a new image for emmc CWM (get it at that same thread) to one of your new SDs and boot to that. It will say the CWM is for stock in the title. Flash that plain stock ROM, followed by a factory reset. Then you should be ok.
If you want to update your SD install, you must pick a ROM zip from the SD thread.
Sent from my Nook HD+ running CM10.1 on emmc.
Thank you. I got it working.
