video playback - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi everyone!
Just got my SGT7 around a month ago... and I like it. After a week of usage, I rooted it and flashed Overcome. Now, I'm using Overcome 1.4.3 with Kernel 2.1.4. I noticed that when I play vids, it sometimes stutters. Anyone experiences that?

you know the definition video is a very vague term.
it could range from a 180654p 3456789kbits mkv,
to a 50*40 50 kbits 3gp.
please be a little more precise.
galaxy tab 1.4.5 overcome

Return to stock clock speeds + conservative if using setcpu

Go to recovery mode and wipe the cache. Then use titanium to clear the player's cache.

Also try a different media player. I'm guessing you're using the stock one? Give moboplayer a shot. It plays more formats too.

I had a similar issue, I thought it was the overcome kernel but I had changed to the ondemand governor in setcpu, going back to conservative fixed it for me.
If you view the setcpu description in the market it does mention to stick to conservative for galaxy s devices & the tab is basically a big galaxy s.

Video?

Video isn't working on my NC (CM7 7.0.2), not on games, you tube etc. I flashed an oc kernel yesterday and ran a Quadrant test and it wouldn't go past step 1/10 video decoding, so I went back to my nandroid back up. Hasn't worked since. Should I do a FULL wipe and reflash CM7 or is there a fix? Thanks in advance,
Dave

I actually flashed a kernel after the first kernel and it did get past video decoding but had other glitches with the second kernel so went back to nandroid. Hit almost 2400 on 2nd kernel oc at 1300. Have to brag because my Evo wont go past 1400 on Quadrant, not that I put much stock in benchmark tests (ATM my Evo 1400 is smoother then my NC 2400)

Choppy videos with overcome?

Maybe this is just me because I didn't find anything similar after searching the forum...
Videos played smoothly on the stock froyo rom, but after I moved to overcome 2.0.0 RC1, I noticed videos would play with intermittent choppiness.
I figured out that unchecking the "SD: Speed tweak" in the Tweaks app fixed the issue.
Hope this is helpful.
I actually have this issue as well. I see stutter every 30 seconds - 1 minute or so. Was silky smooth before. Hope this one gets sorted, as apart from that Overcome is awesome.
depending on the material youre playing there are some issues right now. search for "stagefright". Changing with blade buddy is the easiest way i think.

I's not overcome related. Even with the stock rom you have this problem.

I meant stuttering
Stuttering, that was the word I was looking for.
Thanks zetsurin for your accurate description.
In any case, my mix of 720p MP4 videos and 480p and 1080p AVI videos all play smoothly now.
And yes, overcome rocks! It gave me a new tablet.

[Q] Flash Video Playback

Greeting from the Charge forum.
I recently tried out a Gingerbread based leak on the Charge and found the Flash video playback to be significantly slower on Gingerbread with or without Voodoo lag fix enabled or disabled.
I don't know if the problem is the leak, phone specific, Gingerbread, or Flash player. I just don't have enough exposure to Gingerbread.
Having said that, I know the Captivate is a much more mature device.
So my question is how does Flash video playback on the Captivate compare between Froyo or gingerbread?
Try this trailer:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cRdxXPV9GNQ
On EE4 (Froyo) with or without lag fix I get smooth frame rates up to and including 720p.
On EP1W (Gingerbread) it's unplayable in 480p and okay (not perfect) in 360p.
Let me know if you get smooth frame rate in 720 or 480p.
Again, these test are in the browser, not the Youtube app. It requires your browser to be in desktop view mode.
If I turn my CPU up to 1440 its smooth. Anything lower its choppy in 720. Smooth at 360 no matter what I'm set to.
I assume you are runing on a Gingerbread rom/kernel. Do you or anyone else happen to have a Froyo rom/kernel for comparison?
Yeah I'm on miui right now. If no one shows up by end of night in a couple hours ill flash to a froyo n let you know.
I'm on stock KH3(latest leaked GB2.3.4) and no OC/UV and no lagfix as there isn't one for it at the moment! its fine at 720P

Great news. So we know that your getting hardware acceleration with Flash video playback. We know that Gingerbread supports hardware acceleration and Flash.
The question is what settings/configuration do you have on your phone that tells Flash to use your hardware (Hummingbird) to accelerate video playback.
Perhaps M3drvr and I can try build.prop edit?
I have used to V8 supercharger for the KAK tweaks and 3G booster and lag nuliifier

I'm on apex 9.3 and do not have any issues with lag. Runs just fine in high quality.

You are running from the Youtube app. I am talking about running Flash video from the Flash player within your browser at 720p.
Try again, and report your results.

You are correct in that I was using the YouTube app and I tried the mobile youtube website before as well without any issues. Although when I switched over to desktop mode, I can't select the 720p setting. I tried on the stock browser as well as DolphinHD browser and when I click on the quality button to select the 720p setting the menu flashes for a sec and then goes away. Not to sure why it does that. Never had that issue before.

Can you post/host/upload your build.prop?
I'd like to see if I can trick Adobe Flash.
Thanks.

Tegrak overclock setting help needed!!

HI!
I recently flashed the Fasty III rom and I like it, especially with the spb 3d launcher...
BUT it's running SLOW and lagging alot and the battery drain is tough...
I got tegrak overclock premium/ultimate and tried to make it run faster with hopefully less battery drain...
I tried 13000mhz 1275mv core and 1100mv internal but then the phone started getting HOT when i was playing Words with Friends -_-....
I tried other settings but none seem to work that well...
Does someone have a good configuration which will let me rin it fast without the crazy battery drain and over heating?
Thank you!

Fasty III KK4 edition v 1.1
Android 2.3.5
Don't OC that high? Lol try 1.2ghz and try uv as much as you can per step.

Try Voltage Control
easier to set up
Not possible unless he changes to Corn 7.x. And either way he NEEDS to figure out how much UV his phone can take.
Edit: @OP I would bet you're lag is because of the launcher. I used Fasty before and ran decently on 1ghz.

I also think that the lag is created by SPB 3D Launcher as that launcher use a lot of ram.
@OP try using a different launcher like GO Launcher and see if you're lagging or not?

Thanks for the advice everyone!
OK first these are the things I've done since the post...
I am now running the corn kernel v7.06... with syscorp(default) tweaks, smartassv2, sio and tegrak disabled ATM...
I have frozen spb thru tibu and am using LP sense pro....which was my original launcher btw...
I have recalibrated the battery and wiped battery stats...
I am still getting lag...most noticeably when a call comes in while using a different app...cant answer the call since it freezes up...oh and hanging with friends seem to lag A LOT for some reason...weird...
My battery Life is atrocious! I am getting like 4 to 5 hours with light use...display is using 79% according to battery mgr ...
Does this sound like I have something wrong in my setup or is this a bad flash of the rom?
thanks for any advice!

Adobe Flash Player performance

Basically I just got the P990, had a HTC HD2...
My main reason for getting the P990 was because it has a superior CPU & GPU and foolishly I thought Adobe Flash Player would work better because I use that plugin ALOT
I am frankly disappointed alot.
On my old 1ghz cpu, Adreno 200 gpu HD2 I could stream 720p from the desktop version of youtube...
On the Optimus 2x I hardly get a smooth 480p, it's smooth here and there, but 720p is horrible.
Why is that? I'm on Gingerbread stock official, haven't tried other ROM-s because I just got the phone and it's basically new.
I tried the playback on both default Adobe Flash Player 10.3 that is in-built in the official GB ROM and I tried some 11.1 don't know exactly which version and they both don't give me the results I would expect from a Tegra 2 and a dual core CPU.
P.S. I'm NOT new to flashing at all, did that a million times on my former HD2.
The only thing I see P990 is better then my old HD2 is in gaming. =.=
Someone please help me or suggest me what I can do to get this Flash Player up and running how it should, it's very disappointing for a more powerful phone.
maybe try another web browser or installed a youtube apps from googleplay.. and maybe try to change rom from ICS..
Thanks for the reply
I'm more interested in the flash player performance itself because I stream a lot of movies/series online that still use this particular plugin. :cyclops:
mine got a slower performance also for live streaming videos but sometimes it's fast, maybe it cause by internet reception, try to use the latest flashplayer..

You can also go here and get the last 2x-3x version and the last 4.0 release. Found link in other thread. I had issues once and getting a newer release helped
