Hi all,
Is there any apps that can be used as monitoring the data usage of each application? i.e. google map using how many kb, Meebo IM using how many kb, etc etc..
thanks first.

anyone? please?
I use 3G Watchdog, but it's only overall summary, but not per application (as I guess you'd like)

Thanks a lot. I also use that but yeah, i'd like it by applications.
but anyway thanks for the input.
May be we can call for Spb to port their applications to Android very soon.

It would be a great idea.
because, there are always some background data transfer but I never know which apps are doing that. It is especially important for users like me who do not have unlimited data plan.
there is also netcounter .
Ultra thanks for the info on NetCounter. From a glance it's nice app. With beautiful UI too.
EDIT: Sorry for the double post :-(
Don't mention it , anyway there is also APNdroid which prevents your mobile from accessing the network .

Thanks for the tips.
Yeah, I also have the APNdroid to shut down the mobile internet.
However, my thought was to monitor the data usage by "applications" so that I know which application is going what and the Netcounter only monitor the data usage by "Wifi" or by "mobile internet 3G".
I don't really need per application usage, thus NetCounter is good enough.
I love to see NetCounter to expand its functionality to optionally monitors applications' usage too.
You can also use droidwall to block an individual application's internet access. I do not have an unlimited plan too, and to me this works better than monitoring each application.

Hi Schi,
Did you ever have any luck finding an app for this? I'm looking for the same thing as something on my phone is downloading about 500mb a day and I haven't a clue what! It only started about a week ago

exactly, I have similar problem but not as much as yours.
but this kind of app is really necessary but yet no one developed it, at least i haven't found out.
please look out together and let me know if you find something like that.
Using droidwall I've narrowed (I picked it early, it kinda stood out ) the culprit down to application 10019:Camera, Media Storage, Download Manager, DRM Protected Content Storage.
So I've now got droidwall blocking that app for 3G and allowing it on wifi and I just turn on wifi when I need download stuff that requires that app.
I've been searching for this too and finally found something. There's a paid app called "Network Statistics" that does per-app data since phone startup. It's 50p.
However it won't start on my Milestone (2.1, rooted) so... Well at 50p you can give it a try I guess.
Cheers, I'll give it a go.
Is there a reason why they have not created a Mobile Data Toggle on/off switch for the none rooted Hero using either ADW or LauncherPro UI other than the only option of using the end button and scrolling down to turn it off

All 3rd party widget apps say it's because it requires system access or something to that extent. There is one app that can do it. Download JuiceDefender. If you don't care for its battery saving functions, just open the app and disable it. After it's installed though, you can add a "Toggle mobile data" widget which acts just the way you want.
On stock running sense you can hold the power button and toggle it on it off by selecting mobile network

I already mentioned that at the end of my post, LOL which is not what I want to do as it is a 2 step process, which becomes a PITA

I did install JuiceDefender a couple of days ago but cannot get the data stream to work, it is X out, any suggestions on how to get it to work, again remember I am on Sprint, I sent the developer an email but have not received a reply from him as of yet
I use a widget called smoda widget from the market. That takes care of it. I think it needs root I forget.

Basically, just disable JuiceDefender. Then add the "Toggle mobile data" widget to your homescreen! You don't have to fiddle with JuiceDefender if you don't need it. Just use the toggle widget

I added a OOPs to my post, I had Wifi on,LOL, but I do have a question for you, I tried putting the widget on another page, as I am not crazy about the icon, but when I do put it on another page, I cannot get the JD icon off the notication bar, even when disabled, any clue, can you try it, I assume it has to be on the home screen
Open the main app, on the bottom click on Advanced mode if you haven't yet. On the top to the right Disabled/Enabled click on Notification. Notification is an option only if JD is enabled. If JD if disabled you shouldn't see the notification icon. Note, JD being on and Data being on are 2 different things, you follow?
Thanks Bud !!

Ok this is a modified Mms.apk with 5mb send/receive limit and also 2560x1920 picture resolution send/receive. I hated being sent high res pics and only being able to save them at 640x480...
you need to go into the Mms settings and under "Custom User-Agent" select "Custom" then enter any name you want for the custom user agent... You might need to restart the messaging app, but I tested it and was able to save at full 2560x1920 ...
I'm going to post the modded Mms as an update.zip to flash with clockwordmod.
It's only been tested on froyo.
you might need to clear messaging data...
settings>applications>manage applications>All>messaging>clear data
let me know if it works for you...
Sorry for the noobness but how do I get to the mms settings? Im using the VIPER froyo rom.

make sure it flashed correctly...
make sure you are in the all threads screen in the messaging app. then hit the menu soft key and go into settings. you need to scroll down, it's towards the bottom... in fact if you scroll all the way down in the settings menu the "custom user-agent" settings will be in the top of the screen...
Hope this helps...

did you clear data and change the custom user-agent settings?
also try flashing it again or use the sdx stock app remover to push it and replace the current Mms.apk.

I just noticed that my phone doesn't vibrate and play the notification tone on sms with this mms.apk.
I checked the vibrate always option in the settings.
Can someone else with this mms mod please chime in? I am wondering if this is the culprit.

I second this question as well! Any help will be appreciated! Thanks!
So I've been testing stuff out and I notice that when I have 3g turned off I get like twice the battery life. Is there an app anyone knows of that keeps 3g off unless specifically using data without having to manually use a 3g/2g toggle?
Nexus S - cm7
tasker would do it, its not free but its really worth the money

Would tasker do it without root on stock?
Every app I tried since 2.3.x... none seem to be able to disable your mobile data connection.
Thanks.

Looking for a app similar to the one in cm7 that can toggle 2g on and off. Haven't found anything like it yet

I've notice there's an option for "Use only 2G networks". Was wondering if it's possible to make, or if there already excist a widget/switch to quickly switch it on and off.
i use this:

Widgetsoid is awesome, but it still only throws you into "Network settings" menu, not toggling the "Use only 2G networks" button.
Is it even possible tho? On my older phones (Desire, Desire Z) I remember it was impossible to do a button to instantly toggle between 2G and 3G.
Control Bar?

Try xda superpower. Maybe not exactly what you're looking for but it is useful. You can set it to disable data when the screen is off, set exemptions for specific apps, and a whole bunch of other options. Its free so you might want to give it a try.

pm me if u need help with setting it up before 2.3.3 it didnt work to automatically enable data. u had to toggle it on and off. but now it works like a charm and best thing (well not best thing on tasker but best for what u wanna use it for) u can disable data completely and still recieve mms.
and btw tasker can save u lot of battery if u set it up to ur usage
edit: forgot to tell u:
search tasker on the market and go on developpers site. there shoild be a 7 days tryal version

I dont know if anyone notices this but my stock messanger had it's limits changed from 12 pages 150 some charachters per page to a 999 countdown just like it would when id activate volte on my note 5. I communicate by large texts a lot so this kind of sucked for me. Seeing there was no way to check right away cause of no volte setting anymore im thinking volte isn't activated right away till a call is made that can use volte cause i always had the larger character limit till today. Finally a little while ago i used App Shortcut Maker from the market which allowed me to make a shortcut for the volte setting/hd voice, i have no clue where the setting is buried to find normally but in the shortcut creater it was under the 2nd phone icon then under /kthdvoicesetting, but sure enough it was checked & after i unchecked it now i have my larger up to 12 page 150 some character per page limit back. Hopefully this can help some people out who need the larger text limit or others just wondering why this is happening out of nowhere or wanting to turn hd voice on or off. Just create a shortcut for your homescreen & you can change the setting.

Are you trying to remove the volte icon in the statusbar or something? Just asking cause i seen that folder holds them icons in it i think. If so there's a very easy setting to turn that icon off. It's also another setting without any normal way to get to it but i know how.

It's Advanced messaging that turns on. Also you get a 10MB file limit instead of 1MB. Without VoLTE you cant keep those limits.

Hey thank you so much for that info. I never even knew i could send a mms larger than 1.2mb even with that on. I always wondered why in the world there was options to send videos straight from the camera if they always said to large to send. Now im just going to make an on off switch for my home screen so i can always leave the hd voice setting on & just click it off when i need to send a larger msg that i dont want to send as mms. Much appreciated.
