[Q] How does *stock* recovery work..? - LG Optimus 2x

Just prepping my o2x to return for a replacement (too many random reboots, charge unplug-of-death) and the tech support on the phone wanted to "confirm how I performed a factory reset".
I've done it several times with CWM, but she obviously wants to check the procedure with the stock recovery otherwise it's obvious I've flashed something.
I ran the stock nvflash to restore the phone and recovery to default as I'll need to do this before returning anyway. Now when I hold vol-down and power, I get the lg logo, then the lg logo and a progress bar, then a box with an arrow coming out and pointing to a green droid and a progress bar and then after about ten seconds, it reboots.
In adb I can then see that the reboot is now rebuilding the /data from fresh. Sounds all correct - it's done a factory reset nicely.
Can anyone confirm if that is the correct way the stock recovery "reset to default" works..? No menus, no confirm..?

Yes that's is stock recovery works so

Excellent - thanks for the reply. I'll get on the phone tomorrow and get a replacement ordered. It's just so tempting to re-root it and start removing all the LG crap, but I must resist!

Although you get a black screen on boot, it might still be working....
Chubbyflood,
If you are in the same situation as I am then the tab is still working, you are just getting black screen on boot up. It played tricks on me for ages when I was first rooting by tablet; but it turned out it is just the boot up screen that isn't showing.
This is my situation:
-Press and hold Power button to turn on.
-I see the Galaxy Tab / Samsung initial boot image for about 1 second, and also hear the "boot chime"
-Then the screen goes completely blank (but you can tell it is still on with a little light showing.
-The four "hard button" lights will light up briefly a couple times
-Wait approximately 30 seconds to a minute (to be safe and give the tablet time to boot up - it is actually booting up)
-Tab the Power button once, to turn the tablet off (now the screen is clearly off)
-Tab the Power button again, and the tablet will be up and running as normal.
I am guessing the boot animation / images are failing in some way, but the tablet is booting up as normal.
I've just learned to live with it, because I haven't had a chance to figure out what's going on, but it honestly took me a good hour or so, and a few (unnecessary) flashes, before I realized the thing was up and running fine, it just need to have the button pressed on and off.
One final thing to mention; don't have the tablet plugged into anything. I seem to remember leaving it plugged into the PC didn't help (I think).
Hope that makes sense.
Cheers
Ed.
Has your situation been resolved?
I am in the same boat. What I have done to temporarily fix this was to Flash a ROM that uses Hemdall and it will boot as flukebu stated but only with the Galaxy Cubed ROM.
I cannot get the factory files to boot as you have stated.
I have continually tried to return to stock using the files provided on this forum and all "unbrick" posts.
While flashing the stock images everything completes and works well. The device reboots and the Samsung Splash screen appears. Once it appears it disappears and scrambles the screen. I believe it then goes into a bootloop which easily enough I could access factory recovery to correct but when I do attempt to access factory recovery the screen is as posted above (black but illuminated).
Once I flashed Galaxy Cubed ROM and it booted I hit the power button and the locksreen appeared. I can tell you I was excited but there are some issues with that ROM I have not tried to correct yet because my main goal is to return to stock.
Even with this ROM working correctly I have attempted to access CWM once installed to complete a Data Wipe and that does not show up either.
I would really like to find a solution to this I want to return to stock and not have this custom ROM running.

did a whipe and what was on the link dident fix it when i use rsd lite it gets to 3/18 and fails
What recovery are you using?
stock recovery cant get any other ones to work
Try this. Follow the directions in the OP. It'll take about 5 mins to get back to a box stock D3.

Then ROM Manager is clearly the issue. That link gets you to box stock software. I'm not a fan of RM because I feel that unless 110% understood, it can cause way more headaches than it fixes. What do you use it for? What changes did you make after flashing to stock?
used rom manager to change battery icon 3g icon signal icon and the notification bar backround
I don't think that MavROM is compatible with Rom Manager tweaks. I believe that they only work with CM based ROMs. Try reflashing to stock, rerooting, and reROMing it. Don't make the changes and see if the issues persist.
i tried reflashing to stock like 10 times and it never fully goes back to stock
How about going to cwm through odin and deleting your catch data and your delv catch. I had the same issue when reverting back to stock ( it wasnt fully there) but when i erased all the data and delv catch it reverted to the stock rom properly. Just a thought

Well, the previous is strange, because I've used that to recover from all different causes of bricks and bootloops and reboots and etc. All took me back to box stock software...
Anyways, I would flash back to stock-ish with it, re-root, install CWM, boot into recovery, and then wipe /system /data /cache /dalvik cache.
Using X + Power then VOL Up + Down, you can get into stock recovery and wipe data and cache. This puzzles me though, because that quick SBF wipes data, system, and cache.
Just for my curiosity, what ISN'T stock after the quick unbrick method?

Oops, bumped Thanks trying to quote this. When the DOS-looking window prompts you to press any key to exit, and I'm assuming you do, do you let the phone go through it's process where the yellow bar inches across the screen and completes the reset?

Are you sure you have the latest drivers installed? Head over to that thread one more time, re-download the quick unbrick, boot up with M + Power, select AP Fastboot, open the shortcut for "CLICK HERE - Something something something", allow it to go through it's 20 or so lines of actions, and when it says to press any key to exit, do so. Now just let the phone sit there while still plugged in (IIRC, this is what I did last time). If this all fails to return you to stock settings... 1. I'll be surprised 2. I'll nand backup mine and make a video for you of quick unbricking mine and everything it does.
If it does work, please don't change things in ROM Manager, IIRC, those tweaks are only for CM based ROMs, and not Mav.

Factory Reset Not working blank screen!

So I've had Honeycomb 3.2 on my streak for a few weeks now, and it's been working fine. I decided to do a factory reset and start from scratch in order to give the streak to my wife.
For some reason, after I get the boot screen and select factory reset of user data and internal storage, the streak just goes to a blank screen. The keys do light up, but that's it.
Now I can't even go back to how it was or factory reset. Has anyone had this happen before, and how do I fix it?
thanks
Make sure your tablet is charged above sixty percent.
Yeah I read that somewhere. I charged it until the green light came on. I was able to get into recovery mode. The problem is, once there, I click on factory reset, then nothing. Just a blank screen.
Is there another way of restoring the streak?
Yes there is, go to Settings, Privacy, and Factory Reset.
I can't go into android. Stuck at dell logo screen. When I try volume up and power and click on factory reset, it just shows a blank screen.

In this forum there is a thread titled 514 ROM, this is a complete Honeycomb 3.2 rom. Download the package, save it to an external sd card, rename it "update.pkg" and boot into recovery mode like you did before and choose option 2. This will wipe your tablet and re install Honeycomb.
otnos i really appreciate your help, but the problem is exactly what you just mentioned. when i get into recovery mode, any of the options i pick and press power, the following screen is just blank. nothing happens at all. i can press 2,3,4, or 5 and i just get a blank screen.
can i nvflash the streak and return it to its original state?

You have two options, NVFlash back to whatever ROM you want to run, or you can flash the stock recovery via fastboot and then load the ROM update.pkg to the external SD and boot into recovery and flash the factory package... (the second way is the preferred way in my opinion)

Phone suddenly acting up need some help

I rooted my droid 4 a few months ago when I first got it so I could tether. I removed a couple of programs using titanium backup (blockbuster app and some other bloat). Phone worked fine until monday when the touchscreen stopped working. I did a reboot (power + volume down) whereupon it just sat at the M "Dual Core" logo. I tried booting into the recovery menu but selecting "recovery" didn't do anything - it would just hang.
Last night I was able to get it working again by going into the recovery menu and selecting asp fastboot, then using RSDLite to push a stock Droid 4 ROM onto the phone. However, it didn't wipe my old system, and didnt install over it either because all my files were there, and the programs I removed were still gone. So the phone worked for a few hours then the touchscreen stopped working again.
I repeated the process with RSDLite and after a few failed attempts where the phone would hang while booting, I finally got it to boot into the OS again. And this is where I am at now.
I am pretty sure that the problem is related to the OS that is on the phone now and that I need to wipe the phone and start fresh with either a custom ROM or the stock D4 ROM. The problem is that I can't get recovery to do a factory reset. As I mentioned above, recovery just hangs and doesn't do anything. I am reasonably literate when it comes to this stuff but I get really confused because there are so many different ways that people seem to do this stuff (safestrap, bootstrap, CM( etc). I would love to try CM9 but my priority right now is just to have a phone that works. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.

select recovery by holding the vol buttons and power on boot just like fastboot. press vol - for recovery. when u see dead droid hit both vol up and vol down and theres the recovery
Thanks, I was finally able to get into recovery. Wiped data and did a factory reset which again got stuck at the logo screen. Went back into fastboot and ran RSDlite again to flash the stock ROM which gets me to the "Welcome to Droid4" screen where it says "touch the android to start" but the touchscreen is unresponsive. Starting to think there is something physically wrong with the phone....
send it to motorola, I've heard their customer support is pretty good. but if you voided your warranty by rooting/flashing other roms, I've heard bricking the phone and sending it in works to get a new one too
The only way I can send it back is through an insurance claim so I am trying to save myself $75j if this thing will just work. I just did a reboot and now the touchscreen seems to be working so I am going through the setup process....so weird.
Update: I was able to get the phone to load up and configured my google account etc. It appears that the phone is now running on completely stock installation of OS.....

So it has been a couple days now and the phone works totally fine. It looks like the problem was that by removing whatever bloatware that I did, the phone's OS got borked when VZW pushed an update of some kind. Flashing the stock ROM without doing a factory wipe would temporarily solve the problem but eventually the update would get pushed again and the whole thing would lock up again. The factory wipe + reinstall seems to have been the solution to the problem.

[Q] Getting back to Stock Recovery LG G2 VS980 Verizon

I am trying to get back to Stock Recovery need to warranty out my phone for a hardware issue. I have tried many methods listed in different searches and nothing works.
I used Flashify to drop TWRP recovery on my phone and it works great, but when I went to restore my Stock Recovery, it reboots and with no recovery? I get the recovery cover page "Factory hard reset" after pressing the Power key twice, I get a blank screen and have to do a hard shutdown. Factory Recovery doesn't seem to install. I can reboot and re-install TWRP Recovery and it works fine, just can't get back to "Stock Recovery".
Ideas or directions would be very helpful.
Thanks.
Did u flash roms? You have to go full stock or they ent fix it

You can easily get back to 100% stock with stock recovery to make Verizon happy.
Search this xda thread for VS98027A_05.kdz and put it on your phone with LG Flash Tool 2014.
Just follow the recipe exactly and it will work first time.
