How is this possible ?? My phone is haunted.
A few hours ago I got a phone call and the woman said she was returning my call. I didn't call anyone and so I said, "You must have dialed the wrong number from your caller ID." She repeated the number on her caller ID and even the name. She was correct but I didn't call anyone. I thought maybe I pocket dialed a number. She hung up, I hung up and then ...
About 50 calls follow. Each person different, from all over the country. My number and name on their caller ID. The message was something like "how to escape credit card debt." I am thinking that some how someones auto dialer is similar to mine but --- How does it use may name ?? Not just my number on the caller ID but also my name .. AND .. My callerID name is "Whatever."
Any ideas ?? Tmobile couldn't give me an answer. I had to change my number. GREAT .. Now all my contacts need to be notified. Need new business cards, can't leave a forwarding number because the calls will start again ..

Do You Have a PS3 ?
I have the Samsung Tab but this was actually happening with my iphone. Did I mention that when the people answered the recording was telling them "do you want to eliminate credit card debt."
Your iphone you say? Sounds like the apple walled garden has been breached.
Or just as likely tmo

I was going to be a little pushy with T-Mobile. Told them I wanted an answer as to how this happened. Tech tried to tell me it was something that I downloaded. I told them #1 It's an iphone. Everything has to be approved by Apple and #2 I didn't download ANYTHING .. I use it as a phone only. I think her head was going to explode because she just kept repeating like a robot, I must have downloaded something and I should do a hard reset on my phone.
as I see it, the most logical answer would be that some company...those telemarketers or whoever, somehow managed to get a hold of your information AND is spoofing their caller ID with yours. The question is, how did they get your information? also, I think the only way to figure out who would possibly be doing that would have been to somehow get the authorities involved because they have the power to view detailed call information including the origin of a call....

I changed my phone number because every few seconds I was getting a call from someone saying "you just called me. you let the phone ring twice and hung up. why." I figured that might go on forever so I changed the number. What authorities ??
Like your local police/FBI. It sounds crazy, but that could be violating your rights... And whoever is doing it is subject to legal action and stuff

Did u look in the call log for tmous to see if those calls were logging?
It sounds like a scam of some sort, i get emails with my personal address as the sender. Damn hard to block yourself from your own emails, they originate from Russia.

You my friend are a victim of identity theft. I suggest you get an affidavit before you end up arrested for wrong doing by whoever is using your identity.
So far what I have found out is that the phone was sending text messages. They went to mobile and land-line phones. I have the phone number now of who was making these calls, now I actually have something to report. I am in Orlando and the spammer is also in Orlando. I tried a reverse look up but haven't found one that will give me the name of the spammer. I just know that the number belongs to a mobile phone.
Time to file a report then!

I have been looking for this since I first started using Windows Mobile.
Unfortunately, most of the softwares out there (because they are not built into the ROM) can not reject calls without the other side knowing. I have tried every software out there, all of them are the same, the caller will hear a ring, or part of a ring, then they will get a busy signal (rejected).
I can't believe this is hard to create, I use to have it 12 years ago in my BASIC alcatel phone. When a black listed caller dials, they get nothing .. or get an out of coverage message from the operator. I believe the way it worked, is that the phone detects the caller number, BEFORE responding that it has acknowledged the call and is ringing.
I guess that is why I am saying that it is built in to the ROM as a driver or something, and not just a software.
Any Ideas, thoughts, where I can find this, anyone WILLING to make it ?
I know there are some recent roms being created that has the call blocking feature built in. i'm using one those roms, which is indicated in my signature. when u mentioned that you've tried them (call blocking applications) all, were they free and/or commercial apps, or apps created in the development/hacking section? Collectively speaking, there's alot of those types of applications floating out there, but maybe you've already tried those.

1st off, change your number
if that doesn't suite your needs make a fake dial tone which states your number is not in service as your voicemail while using call firewall. after a few weeks the person will give up calling you. Callers will receive one full ring and it will go to your new fake voicemail after blocking them, which they will perceive as your phone being turned off or changed your number.
common sense now pay me.
hahahah nice one .. except the keyword here is UNDETECTABLE ... if they know i changed my number or i am blocking them, they will find me and ask for the NEW number ....
As I said before, the only device I saw that feature on, was the really old alcatel models; which didn't give you a ring, didn't give you a busy tone, probably just ignored the request coming in from the telco when it is one of the black listed numbers.
Nice try, but I would pay you, if you could do the same on windows mobile. By the way I was testing an alpha versio of the cruise before it was launched, and it actually (accidently) opened the speaker, before you actually picked up the phone call, so the other side could hear you, before you even answer.
Thus, I am sure these things are possible, if there is someone who has the knowledge, and power to play with the operator
I haven't tried anything comercial, didn't find what i was looking for. If you know of any comercial software or freeware that does what i am stating. i.e. doesn't ring before it blocks the call. That would be great
I have something called MAGICALL, and it works great. You can set it to pick up then hang up, however the best part is that the call doesnt "come through" or let the phone ring. Unless you specify the software to give you a pop up message indicating it blocked a call. I love it since it doesnt even let the phone ring, its like if you never got called.
Same thing, I already tried MagiCall and it rings once to the caller, and then disconnects. Very obvious that you are avoiding the person.
I currently use a free voicemail feature called YouMail, which has call filtering and call blocking features. You can block calls (I believe) and also create a unique voicemail greetings for those you want/trying to avoid as well. www.youmail.com
I also use magicall for this. As an action I choose 'ignore' and then the caller just hears the phoen ringing, the connection is not broken. And you, well you hear and see nothing so you are not disturbed. Is that not what you want/?
Not exactly, ignore is a nice feature if you dont' want to be disturbed, but if someone is constantly bugging you; you would like them not to even reach your phone (so they don't come next day in the office, and say I left you three missed calls, and you didn't answer me).
It would be easier if they just got a this phone is out of coverage (or something similar) from the operator; then you can always blame the operator, that they couldn't reach you ... you get my drift ?
Yeah, I get your drift. But, if you're not reachable, then I guess it's the provider that sends back a message to the caller. I don't think your phone can send that message to the caller.
Moreover in most cases if you're not reachable then the caller also gets sent to your voicemail and he can also leave a message and come to you next day asking why you didn't react to his voice messages.
So the only option would be to send a message back saying that the number doesn't exist. But again, you would have to be able to spoof a provider based message for that.
I see these options when a caller really wants to get hold of you and you don't want to react:
* drop the call after 1 ring: caller notices he gets dropped, gets pissed an comes to see you
* send message back saying you're out of coverage: caller leaves message, which you ignore, caller gets pissed and comes to see you
* send a message back saying that the number doesn't exist: caller inquires whether you changed number, finds out you didn't, gets pissed and comes to see you
* silently ignore him: caller leaves a message, which you ignore, caller gets pissed and comes to see you.
Seems you're screwed either way
Why not simply answer the call and tell the caller to f*ck off. He's bound to get pissed also but at least he'll leave you alone and you'll feel relieved.
Well for one, I don't use voice mail ... secondly, because it is the provider that sends the message, it is authentic....
So if your mobile ... somehow ... ignores the call coming from the provider ... the provider sends a message saying that the mobile is out of coverage ...

Hmm, you're asking for someone to develop a piece of software because you have no spine? I know of no Java/.Net/etc API that is better than the truth. Tell the person to leave you be. The currently available call firewalls work great for when you need to be in a "Call Free Environment."
It has nothing to do with my spine; and I currently have NO ONE harasing me; but I believe that the current Call firewalls have a disadvantage, and lack a feature.
I wish there was someone in XDA-Developers who is willing to spend some time to make some adjustments to one of the ROMs to have this built in. Especially as this feature is available in historic phones that have a lot less features than a WM.
Im also using Magicall for this & its working great, the other party doen't even hear a ring. It has many other features too.

well both really but you could put a name or a number say u could send it from your friend from POLICE or him self or his wfe saying hes ugly was a really cool prog

no sorry i dont i still have my p800 i can look see if its still on there but i doubt it
lol I had something similar on my PC... wish I still had this program.
Bluetooth
The only way I've ever known how to send message from someone else is through bluetooth hacking as far as over the net that would be awsome and if you figure it out let me know lol I could def freak some people out!
BT Spammer does this, but again its via bluetooth only(so u have to be nearby the potential victim)
With smartSMS I believe you can mask your number. In addition, there definitely used to be an application where you could enter any random number and send a sms thru data but I cannot for the life of me remember either. Finally, provider websites used to provide sms over the internet where you could enter any random "sender" number as long as the receiver's cell number was listed with that service provider.
edit: nvm smartsms doesn't do it but I know there used to be an app as well.
Am I the only one who finds this absolutely scary/horrible? I'm sure you're wanting this just to mess around with someone, but think of how mean this could be. You could send a message to a guy you hate from his wife's ex-boyfriend telling him how much he enjoyed her company the other night... you could send a message to your coworker from his boss telling him he's been fired and to clear out his desk...
I could see people's lives being ruined if they react to such a message in the heat of the moment.
Ok guys.....I can't be the only one this has happened to. For the last week I have been getting somewhat random calls and caller id shows its my number. There are times when I happens right around a phone call but the phone has had root for 6 months...multiple roms flashed and never an issue till now. Running crc1 with cyan 4.0.4 build...themed with community hero. This is the second post about this....does someone know what's happening or how to fix it...thanks
its called someone is spoofing you with a spoof app of some sort heres a website about what its about.
basically youre being pranked
Here's the website
I appeciate the insight but I have that app and as far as I am aware you can't call a number with the same number.....it won't allow it. So I'm pretty sure that's not it.
Umm i dont think you understand completely.
Ok ....now I know its the phone ....noticed a pattern...it seems to do it right after someone calls but only rings a couple of times. And I'm not sure what it is I don't understand.

Say Dave doesn't like Jay and wants to prank call him.
He uses SpoofApp or the equivilant service to call him.
To use this service all you need to do is enter the number you would like to call and the number that you would like to show up on the recievers callerID.
Jay recieves a call from the number that Dave put in.
It could be just about any number and the only way that I know of for sure to tell who it is that's calling you is TrapCall.
Hope that clears it up.
Ya I hear you on that and I have used it......I'm not stupid. This is a phone issue. The calls are comming after a voicemail is left. What could the problem be. I'm not trying to be a jerk but the obivious solution is not allways the right one. Could someone give me an idea.
I agree with you oneyoungjay I have that app to and you can't put the number to call and the number to display at the same time. It will not allow it. I use the app pretty often.
My iPhone used to do this to me on t-mobile a few months ago, just like voicemails sticking, i solved it by leaving myself a voicemail. (and its actually a carrier issue, i believe)
try changing voicemail client to phonefusion for example. If its a carrier issue that should bypass it if not sorry...
Thanks .....ill try that a let you know if it worked.
when i call someone and that someone is on a call with another person, i should get a message saying that the person is on a call so that i'd know that he is busy with another call ..

yes, but that doesn't have nothing to do with your phone. It's a provider's (vendor/operator) service. And only some of them support it
Actually @t_assal is correct, he meant if I call a guy who is calling someone else and this guy is activated the call waiting function, I have to get a message "waiting" and then you decide to continue disturbing him or to hang up.
Also @papo is correct that his is an operator thing.
But the problem that the operator send me back this waiting signal, and neither my iPhone nor my Nexus one shows this message, but my 10 years old Nokia show it. the same sim card used in the three phones for this test.
Which means the waiting signal which sent by the operator "maybe only Mr. t_assal's and mine" is not recognized by neither iPhone nor nexus1 (also winmo)
We need a solution

we need to make clear about this. Just to make post short and spare my brain waves, I supposed (wrongly?) he messed it up and is referring to sms which called party get after finish his call.
That's the service I've wrote about.
It's handy if you are off, turn phone on and receive message from Bob, but it's automated and saying he tried to call and you can hit call back btn. In some countries/operators it's common.
Why would I want a message saying Bill is busy on call, 5 secs after I hear beep beep from the line? But yes that would be phone function and it's possible to handle. It's a network message, nokia is showing them by default (and can't be turned off!!!! :-S )
Make an application showing message such as this is possible and there could be one. Just what the purpose?
Though there is one useful info there. After active call ends, phone will receive network message containing code, which describes reason of ended call: red button by called, caller, lost reception (out of coverage or battery), network error, network busy
If you often make people angry over line and they hang on you, with this cell code you can have an monthly statistic of upset people or whatever you want. aah just cant see any reason to have this eather
run windows\fieldtest.exe and check it there, that's good enough.
sorry to hear ppl who thinks they know it all and says bull****..
The fact is clear, whe u call some one who has HIS call waiting service active UR phone MUST indicate U the other person call status. that's what call waiting means. usually "call on waiting.." or something, but STILL ringing and the othrer person hears some indicator beep or someting , and HE desides to take the call or not.
the bug is Iphone 3gs, 4g (and nexus aparently) don't show this message "call waiting" like ALL other phones, in my case, OMNIA II, nokia, (with the same SIM card) shows the msg.
please don't coment if u dont know and PLEASE lowercase and regular font. NOOBS.
sorry for my bad english.

Who's the noob? You double posted and no this isn't a fact, I've never had a phone tell me when someone is on a call. There are some carriers that have a tone at the end of the ring to let you know they are on another call..
I think you are confusing your words, your phone should alert you (the person getting the call) that someone is calling you while on another line, it's not the other way..
Provide some info stating other wise that isn't half ass typed like the **** you are posting.
Yes it's true I had this problem since i started using PDA phones only (HTC Mda compact, then HTC Tytn 2 and the HTC HD2), I think problem only exists when using PDA phones because ''call waiting'' function is working on my all other symbian phones like (Samsung, Nokia, .... with symbian)
It might be with Windows mobile phones not sure, but don't know if there is any fixing for this specially for HTC HD2 ..
thanks
So, I have a really annoying telemarketing company who is calling me on a semi-regular basis. I've already asked them to stop calling me, twice. I'm not really the kind of person to be stirring the pot and reporting them (too much work)...instead I would rather screw with them.
Since Google Voice allows me to have custom greetings for certain phone numbers, I would like seriously mess with whoever is calling me.
Does anyone have any ideas for what my greeting should say/be for my pests?
Inform them that they have lost the game, and proceed with a rick roll
Tell them that they've inherited £12,000,000 and you're a Nigerian prince that only needs their name, address and bank account details to send it to them.

Play a recording of a previous conversation with them?
I ran across this one which sounds good.
"Another good one is to start your answering machine message with the phone company phone number error/disconnected tones and then continue the message. It tricks the computer doing those auto-dial/automated message calls to delete your number from the list and stop calling you."
"Hello, you have reached the Transgender hotline. We're sorry we're not able to take your call at this time, but one of our agents will call you back on this number as soon as they are available. We see that you are a regular customer so you will be given priority over other callers. In the meantime you are welcome to browse our gallery of escorts at www.transgenderplaythings.com where we guarantee you will find a 'friend' who can meet all your needs!
Thank you for calling, goodbye."
Let them explain that to their boss when it comes up in a routine review of their recorded calls.
As I have no sense of humour tonight I'm going to suggest that next time they call, demand a supervisor/manager and then tell them, very politely that they are ++++'s and you have no interest in their piss poor service. If they don't stop calling you despite your numerous requests then you will be left with no option but to take matters further.
Did I ruin the mood?
Good.
Carry on.....

You guys are genius!
Seriously, there are some good ideas in here. Keep them coming! Maybe I will put each of the messages on rotation and switch them out every once in awhile.
I am curious about the trick with playing the message of "this number has been disconnected...etc," I will use that one after I have tried out some of the others in case that one actually does the trick!
"Hello, 911 emergency, which service do you need?"
"errr, sorry i think i have the wrong number.."
"Sir, are you aware that it is a federal offence to misuse the emergency service line? Do you have an emergency to declare...?"
