[Advice] Goldcards..... - Legend Android Development

After a fair few tries with various goldcards i thought id just post up a little bit of info on the problems i had...
My goldcard wouldnt work using 6 different cards (Sandisk,Kingston and unknown makes) and i mean NONE of them! After some testing i found that you could ONLY have a FAT32 partition, so having EXT = fail, having SWAP= fail, i had a EXT2 on lots of them so it kept saying CID incorrect...
I also found that after adhering to the few rules below ALL of the cards worked in the end!
Rule #1 - One partition as FAT32 Freshly formatted (Use linux so you can see all partitions)
Rule #2 - There are alot of different ways to do it the best being Goldcardtool HERE (First link)
Rule #3 - If at first you don't succeed try try again
Rule #4 - "CID Incorrect" Error means your Goldcard didnt work..Try again
Rule #5 - I found that all the cards i had received with new devices worked,1GB 2GB 4GB Sandisk cards ALL WORKED
Finally dont get stressed and start a new thread in Development saying that you cant downgrade your device! If it says CID incorrect it IS a goldcard problem!

JF1.5 to Hero query

Hi,
I'm looking at moving from JF1.5 ADP to the Hero release for my G1. I currently use a Class 6 memory card formated to use Apps2SD. I'm also using the latest radio SPL, but not sure which version of recovery image.
Would I be right in thinking I could jump to the recovery image section and continue from there, or would I have to fully wipe my memory card and reformat it before doing this
Just follow the instructions in the thread below to install the recovery image.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=3915123
Anytime you go from Hero to a pastry you will have to wipe. From a pastry to Hero you might be ok without a wipe but it's always best if you do.
Always best to wipe...
Do you currently have a swap partition? I believe hero requires all 3 partitions. Fat32, Ext3/4, Swap
Someone correct me please if I am wrong.
Hi managed to do this last night - had to download the hboot spl, as I had different spl but same version number, then had to format cards as only had 2 partitions (1 ext2 and 1 fat32) - so setup as per some instructions for a 8gb card leaving the swap @ 32mb
used the Modaco firmware

Goldcard - Am I doing it wrong?

Hi there, For the past few hours I've been trying to create a goldcard with no succes. So far I tried 3 different SD cards (2gb sandisk, 8gb sandisk that came with the phone and a 1gb noname one) and none of them works so I'm kinda wondering if I'm doing something wrong.
First things first. Syncing doesnt work. I got it to finally recognize the sync but thats about it. However I do get the Device ID and everything.
When I format the disk using the phone, there is actually still data on it. Is it supposed to be this way? Can't I format it from within windows?
Second is the unlockr guide. Now English is not my native language but at some point the guide is rather unclear. Once you get the CID code, you have to reverse it the site will automatically add 2 0's. However the next step tells you to change the first 2 digets into 0's. But they already are 0's right? So what do I do? Leave it? change the first 2 digets after the 0's to 0's? (actually I tried both and it didn't work).
Also the guide is just wrong at the point where it tells you to retry the hex thing. If it didn't work the sdcard is damaged and there is no point in trying again because it wont show the correct data anymore. And there isn't actually a point 19 while the writer suggests there is
Sooo is it me doing something wrong or is it a sd card problem? I tried doing it on both win7 x64 and XP.
If it is a sd card problem, what card should I buy? If 3 different cards don't work I get the feeling its more of a lottery than anything else to get a working card but I really don't feel like buying a dozen of sd cards and hope I get lucky. Is there a certain brand/size that will work for sure?
ive been having issues with a 64bit os to but under 32 bit it seems to be going well so far (win7)
I think I now managed to make one using this app: http://android.modaco.com/content/software/308798/pc-application-goldcardtool/
But now I got the goldcard, what do I do next? I got the RUU but do I just run it from my pc with the phone in sync mode? Or do I need to go in some other mode?
edit: btw what is this talk on some sites that your sd card can only be a goldcard? You can just format it right?

[Q] Setting Up New SD Card Wildpuzzle Rom 2.2

Hey guys =)
would firstly like to say that this forum ROCKS!!
incredible knowledge database that has been invaluable to my pursuits so far
I have recently purchased a 16GB Micro SD card to replace the 2GB which originally came with the phone.
I tried inserting the card fresh but the device seems to bootloop and I found that I had to partition the SD card first then transfer all the data from the old card across.
Transferring the data is not a problem (mount the new card via USB in recovery mode and transfer) however I can't for the life of me figure out how to actually partition the card in the first place, as I used ROM Manager to partition it originally.
All the threads I have found are to do with Cyanogens ROM's etc and I am just dead stuck on getting any further with this!!
Could someone possibly link me to a guide or post a guide which I can follow, with all areas covered in a simple manner - THAT WOULD BE SWEEEET!!!
Here is the main guide I am using at the moment however I cannot obviously get past 4 or 5 as this is to with the partition which I cannot do using this method...
theunlockr.com/2009/10/15/how-to-switch-to-a-different-microsd-card-on-android-when-using-swap-hero-and-or-apps2sd
Any help is welcome and once again you guys are awesome, thankyou for the vast amount of knowledge in this forum!!
download a program called partition magic, i think it should do all that you are after.

[Q] Nook Won't Boot Anything off SD

So I have been searching for someone with similar problems for a couple days now and none of the solutions I've found have worked.
My Problem: I had my Nook rooted and had a bootable Nookie card and everything was all good, until I decided that I wanted to mess around a little more and get CWR on it and everything. Well, somewhere along the line things got messed up and I flashed back to stock(8Reboot, along with Power/N data wipe. So I am back to 1.0.1. I have tried re-rooting about 15 times now, both with Auto-Nooter 2.12.25 for 1.0.1 and also with upgrading to 1.1.0 and using AN 3.0. I have tried writing the image both with the Win32DiskImager and also under Linux, using different computers. All of the files are showing up after the write, but when I powerdown the Nook, put the SDCard in and then plug in the Nook cable, it just boots up as normal. I can't seem to figure out what is wrong. All of the other posts I've read have seemed to be fixed by using a different card reader or OS or wiping and starting from scratch at stock, but that isn't working for me. If I missed any details, just let me know.
Thanks so much in advance!
If I were you, I would think there's something going on with the SD card. I would use both of these tools to make sure that I do not have some weird partition setup...
Easeus partition manager (free), to see what weird partitions you may have..
SD Formatter - and do a full wipe
Google for both. Then burn your new image (download it again, or perform a checksum - if provided from your source)
I've had a few seemingly good cards act pretty flukey at times, and I just use those two tools.. with great success.

Thanks BimBoy, I tried using both of the utilities to no avail. No defects found in the Partition Man, and I formatted it with the SD Formatter. Re-Wrote the image, and another straight boot-up. I am using the supplied img out of the original author's post and everything, so I know it's the correct one. It's the same I used a couple months ago.

1 - This is the Development Forum, there is a big Sticky Post saying not to post questions or problems here, but instead to put it in the General Forum. But even better would have been to post in the thread from the "original author's post" that your refer to.
2 - Please post the exact name of the image file you are burning in WinDisk32Imager to create your bootable SD file. The most likely scenario is that it is an SD file, but not a bootable one.
3 - In your original post, you talk about doing things to your Nook and doing things to your SD card. Then after that, you keep using unspecific words like "it" and "that" so no one knows whether you are talking about your Nook or your SD card - for example "put CWR on it" could refer to putting CWR on your Nook or CWR on your SD card.
Please refrain from posting in DEv section if there is no development behind it.
Thanks

[Q] Partition settings and identifying version of N1

Hey all,
Just ordered (from Amazon) an N1 to use as a dev phone, and had a few questions.
In using later versions of Android, I gather that partitions need to be set up on the SD card. I plan to get a 32 GB class 10, but would like to know what are some good general rules for partitioning with either 4EXT or CWM recoveries.
Also, how do I identify which version N1 I have? I understand some have SLCD and some have AMOLED. Also, some work internationally and some not(?)
Thanks for your input.

All your questions could be solved by searching.
Internal memory can be partitioned using BlackRose. Read the thread so you understand what you're doing, before you actually start partitioning. If you're stuck: search. There have been dozens of threads started by people who didn't read enough.
µSD card can be partitioned with EXT4 recovery, or using partitioning software on your computer (e.g. GParted). Do NOT use ClockworkMod recovery for partitioning.
You can identify your Nexus One screen and network (or FAQ Q13).
Also, the wiki and Wikipedia contain a lot of basic info.

I understand the immediate frustration some of my questions may bring, but believe me, I searched. I spent the entire weekend researching and familiarizing myself with the Dev section, the Q/A section and the General section. These questions were what I was left with - in fact, I read through nearly a year of posts just in the Dev section. I spent time doing general Google searches and more time spent with frustrating xda searches which are generally not very helpful.
FYI, I have rooted & s-offed my DInc, DInc2 and Rezound, and have NVFlashed Honeycomb on my Dell Streak 7, so spending an appropriate amount of time searching is not an issue for me. I hope not to trouble this forum with too many questions in the future.

Fair enough - I will use GParted - it's a tool I should have in any case - thank you. That part of my question primarily had to do with the coded partitions table most devs put on their GB/ICS ROM splash pages - XX/XX/XX - what is the naming convention for the sizes given? eg, /system part./recovery part./???

Having had two other HTC devices, the Wiki is great, but many of the links are broken and many of them do not give basic starter information. In other words, the information is familiar to people who have rooted or are dev'ing for the phone for years, but not to someone new to a Nexus device.
Also, thanks for the link to help ID the version of my device - very much appreciated - I should have looked in the FAQ first.

Asking questions is ok, as a matter of fact, that's what this forum is for (partially). It's not (or less) ok if it's a question that has been asked several times before. If you can't find it: learn to search This Nexus One forum is 2,5 years old, it's unlikely you'll experience a unique issue.
I would recommend using 4EXT recovery for partitioning your µSD, as it does that well and you can check partition alignment with it. If you do want to use GParted, make sure your fat32 partition is first and your ext partition last. And make sure the ext partition isn't larger than 1536MB. Larger can cause trouble. And don't use a swap partition.
If you read the BlackRose thread, you will find out that partition layout XX/XX/XX is for internal memory only and represent System/Cache/Data partitions. Stock partition layout is 145/95/196, all in MB.
Enjoy your Nexus One!

Well I am definitely enjoying my N1 - thanks to your help I was able to determine that specific hboots can be flashed to change stock partition layouts.
Even started experimenting with cooking my own ROMs. Really enjoying the "new" phone!
