[Q] HBO GO on Rooted Nook Color - Nook Color General

I was able to download HBO GO on my rooted Nook Color (autonooter 3.0, NC version 1.1) however when I try to play a video the screen will go blank immediately after displaying the HBO intro video.
Has anyone successfully used this app?

You need the IMEI fix from the Swype thread.
However, with that done, videos still do not play (the circle just keeps spinning)..

That can't be the problem, since we have flash.........

Unless I'm mistaken Flash is not in Android 2.1. The newest BN Nook Color version, 1.2, is based on Android 2.2 which supports Flash.

Mine too. I wonder what the difference is? Why can't my rooted Nook Color think it's a Droid X?

Yay! My HBO Go app updated today, and it now works on my Nook Color! This (and Hulu Plus, which is not as important to me) was the last thing that my nook was lacking!

[Q] Netflix on NC

Has anyone managed to get netflix to work? If so, did you just download it off of the Market, or did you get an APK from somewhere?
When I load into mine I'm able to log in and view their library, but when I go to play something it just hangs on the screen before the player is supposed to show up and never progresses. It's not locked or frozen, but it just sits there forever.
I'm confused. what Netflix app. I thought we weren't seeing a netflix app that plays until sometime in 2011

I'm really new to Android, (been stuck with iOS for a while) so I'm not sure really. I just went on to the marketplace and did a search for "Netflix" and found one called "Netflix for Android." I suppose that's not official then? Guess I should change my netflix password!

Looks like all that App dose is Allow you to edit your que and browse the Movies. No viewing. And its Not Official. As someone said before No Official till sometime in 2011 and then from what I understand it will only be for 2.2+
Netflix for android app is just an app for managing your queues and such. says right on the description not affiliated with netflix. Official netflix app is suppose to be out next year, however netflix recently said it would likely only work with versions after 2.2 due to their "security concerns", so dont expect it on the nook any time soon
Well dont I feel silly.
Thanks all

Engadget App

For all posts with videos in them (excluding The Engadget Show), the video links have "Unsupported video format".
Does anyone know what is needed to get these videos to work?
Anyone?
Wish I had the answer. I love the app. I wonder if anyone running Froyo has gotten the videos to work in the Engadget app?

On my Evo with custom Froyo rom (Myn's Warm 2.2), Engadget podcast videos play using RockPlayer or the built-in streaming media player. Unfortunately I don't have my NC with me so I can't test to see if RockPlayer works there as well.
Not sure if it is a codec or a flash problem but when my captivate upgraded from 2.1 to 2.2 I went from having this very same issue in 2.1 to being able to see all content in 2.2.
Doesn't work on my NC with Froyo.

Wild guess, but it's likely because those clips use Flash, and unless you're running Froyo from your SD card on the Nook, you're not going to be able to see those clips. Big bummer. I'm dying to get Froyo. I may try installing it on the SD card today, just to see if it'll work for me. Outside of that, I just want Bluetooth working, so I can use my Bluetooth headphones.

Froyo emmc can use flash. I dont know if the sd card can or cannot (i presume it can). Not sure why he made it sound like it can't (possibly typo? or something).
I'll test the engadget app later today for you unless someone else has by the time I can.

Sorry this took so long, been of a busy weekend for me. The engadget app also says "unsupported video format" and if I click videos it says "Sorry this video cannot be played." just like youtube says. It does work if I go to the website and view it that way, albeit the video is laggy (audio sounds laggy too, whihc is weird considering the audio for youtube sounds perfect")

For Froyo its the same reason(or i presume it is) pandora and youtube won't load, theres some network issue in the underlying code preventing these apps from working (but allowing their flash version to run in the browser). One of the developers said he believes he is close to a fix so maybe we'll be able to use these apps soon
How about the size of the application being shrunken to the top middle of the screen under Froyo? Anything we can do about that?

flash 10.2 hulu fix

Just wanted to share what I came across, its was in zoom forums. Its a 10.2 flash with hulu fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=12046595&postcount=1 tried it in my gtab and worked fine had to wait about 45 sec for it to get past can't load advertisement but then no prob. Just wanted to share it. I am using calkulins ROM 1.1
I agree that the Flash 10.2 is great and all, but this should be posted in the Themes and Apps section of the G Tab forums.
I just used caulkin's 1.1 and never had a problem with Hulu. Maybe it has 10.2 built in. I don't know. All I know is I never installed 10.2 alone.

Calkulin's is based around Froyo, and when I was using Vegan 5.1.1 I never had a problem with Hulu. Vegan 7, however, is Gingybread and until 10.2 I couldn't watch Hulu. The Hulu performance is...how to say "horrible and crappy" without sounding mean...well it's not great. But it's there!
Edit: Oh oh oh, I'm still asleep and just read your post again. I don't think Calkulin's has flash built in at all. Does it? Did you go to your applications settings and check to see what version of Flash you have installed?
Edit Edit: Ok, according to Calkulin's first post on his ROM thread, it does include a Hulu-fixed Flash player. I guess you learn something every day, right?
Moved to themes and apps.

There are work arounds I have seen that involve going through some other server / portal to that reads that servers ISP and then routs it to you. Rumor says playon will let you access outside the us but its a pay service. Good luck.
Oh and to make this relavent to the origonal post: This flash works better than my 10.1 fixed flash I was using.
I tried the 10.2 fixed flash and it did play Hulu but jerkily. However, I reverted to the older version because Opera Mobile would not find it. Dolphin HD did ok but Opera only finds the 10.1.x libflashplayer.so.
If it had played Hulu smoothly it might have made me go back to Dolphin but....

[UPDATE][5/4][MOD]Hulu working BRILLIANTLY on Honeycomb {TESTERS NEEDED}

UPDATE 5/4: It has been determined, although it remains unclear as to why, that you need a modified kernel in order for this mod to work. It is my intention to get Hulu working across the Honeycomb platform, so if you have any input as to why Tiamat's kernel is required, please address it in this thread
Read Entire Post
Download links at the bottom of the post.
Using a modified version of the new (4/29)10.2 Flash update, created by imneveral0ne, from the Thunderbolt forums, and Dolphin Mini, with minor settings adjustments, you can enjoy smooth, clear playback of content from Hulu, in it's full browser format. This includes access to all content, including those deemed unavailable for access by mobile devices or TV's. The apk modification essentially changes the user agent of Flash as it appears on the net.
Previously, this has been possible using a similarly modified apk, changing your user agent to desktop, and viewing Hulu using an alternate URL, www.hulu.com/widget/player. While not only presenting an awful UI, this method of playback resulted in choppy video that often fell out of sync.
If you are currently not using Dolphin Mini as a daily browser, it will be easy for you to install it, and implement it as a single purpose browser. Just change the homepage to hulu.com. It's UI is conveniently matched to the design of Hulu's website, which makes for a clean experience. It's light and fast, and could be a daily driver for those looking for a minimalist browser.
The entire experience is smoother, Flash is behaving like it should. Selecting options from within the Hulu playback interface has been a nightmare, but with the updated flash, and HRI66, it's an entirely pleasant way to watch great content on the Xoom.
As for playback, you will find smooth playing video, at 480p. 480p looks great on the Xoom and the Tegra 2 handles it beautifully. By manually lowering the resolution of choice, to either 360p or 288p, you will notice the decrease in resolution, however, you should increase your available bandwidth and relax the stress on your processor, likely saving battery life.
Regarding HD, it is possible, with Hulu Plus of course, to play video in 720p . However, because hardware acceleration has yet to be enabled, the resulting video will be choppy and most likely unwatchable. This has been tested with an over-clocked Tegra2 at 1.5ghz. It would be fair to assume that when the Xoom and/or Honeycomb receive the update Adobe is referring to, 720p HD playback will be possible. In the mean time, 480p looks fantastic.
Also of note, true multitasking is possible using this mod. You can go back to your homescreen, open new apps, check your mail, and your Hulu video will remain playing in the background. You can still hear audio, and work during commercials, resuming playback instantly.
As for installation, this couldn't be easier.
1. Download modified Flash 10.2 HERE CHOOSE LINK #2 LABELED Flash 10.2 + Hulu_2.apk OR from this dropbox public link
2. Uninstall your current version of Flash using the Manage Applications setting.
3. Reboot
4. Install modified version of Flash 10.2
5. Install Dolphin Mini from the Market HERE
6. In Dolphin Mini, change the user agent to Desktop (Menu>Toolbox>UserAgent>Desktop) and change plug-ins to always on (Menu>Toolbox>Settings>Enable Plug-Ins>Always On). This will ensure Flash content plays back immediately.
7. Go to hulu.com and enjoy all the great content on the go with your Android Honeycomb Tablet!!!!
Instructions updated to reflect the following contribution.

If you are having trouble, for example, Hulu is telling you Flash is not installed, please leave a post in the thread noting your model(Wifi or 3g), your build number(HRI39, HRI66 etc), your kernel(modified or stock) and your recovery. It has been determined that a custom kernel is required for this mod to work appropriately. If you have any idea as to why this may be the case, please dump your ideas in this thread.

I can confirm it DOES work with Dolphin HD, however, I have noticed MUCH better performance using Dolphin Mini. It's very light weight and the pages load very smoothly. If you are looking to replicate my positive experiences, I highly recommend Dolphin Mini.
Just watched Obama's latest speech. Works!
I did notice a very slight lag between the audio and video, but it's working (360p video on full screen).

It is my intention to have a tutorial for anyone who wants to watch Hulu on their Honeycomb tablet. When you say it doesn't work for YOU, I want to know why, so that I can help others who may run in to a similar situation. Of course it will work in the stock browser, as long as you change the user agent to desktop. This of course will be reset to default android upon restart, unless you are using a modified framework.
The goal of this post is show how you can consistently get quality Hulu playback without the need to adjust settings, more than once, upon the initial install.
Being that XDA is a community driven site, your input is appreciated. If you get a chance, see if you can get Hulu working under the conditions I suggested, and compare your experience to the stock browser with the user agent changed. I'd be curious to know the results.

doesn't work. tells me i have to install flash player.
i've downloaded the second link the one that says flash 10.2 + hulu and then uninstalled the market version of flash. i then reinstalled the the modded flash and installed dolphin browser mini.
I changed the ua string to desktop, but there is no add-on values. There's only a setting that says plugin support, and i checked always on.
I've tried it three different times and each time it can't detect the flash player in the browser.
I DLed from the Dropbox link, uninstalled the old flash, installed the new APK, installed Dolphin Mini and updated the user agent and plug in settings but I still get the message:
"Hulu requires Flash PLayer 10.0.32 or higher. Please download and install the latest version of Flash Player before continuing."
Bummer.
It does not work for me either. Hulu says that Flash needs to be installed for it to work. I tried to install it from my Xoom and to email it to myself and neither worked.

HD Videos won't play on YouTube!

Guys,
So I recently, successfully, followed the [ROM][CM7] [v1.3] Size-agnostic SD Card image and CM7 installer for SD Cards thread to use CM7 on an SD Card on my Nook Color 1.4.2. Everything worked out flawlessly and everything seems to be working just fine.
I have the Original Nook OS running via Internal Memory (If I boot without SD Card); and CM7 running via SD Card.
One issue that i've run into is that my YouTube is not playing HD Videos. If I try to play any HD Video, I get the error..
"There was a problem playing this video.
Please touch to retry".
If I click the "HD" button on top-right corner to disable HD, the video starts playing just fine in SD Quality. All SD Videos play just fine.
I have not been able to play any HD video at all on YouTube.
The YouTube I'm talking about is the YouTube App available on the Google Play Store.
Is it just me or do HD Videos not play on the Nook Color via YouTube?
Thanks!!
Unfortunately it depends on the format the hd is encoded to... it is hit and miss.
One thing that MAY help is to install MX player and the codec pack for it.

Thanks for replying Dizzy.
I installed MX Player and it's codecs; I have to say that my actual MP4/MKV files are actually running pretty smooth & nicely in this player .... however, YouTube HD Videos still won't work.
I think what bothers me is that it's not appearing as a "hit and miss" with me; it's appearing as a total "miss" with me and I want to make sure it's not just me. Over the last couple of days I must have tried something like 30 ~ 40 HD Clips - absolutely none of them work - each gives the same message.
Could it be something else in my setup?
Thanks.

Ok - so basically HD Videos do not work on YouTube on the NC at all; that is fine, I think I just primarily wanted to make sure it's not just me or my setup. I know "HD" isn't really conducive on the NC anyways since it's max resolution is 854 X 480 ... it's not even 720p.
Thanks for clarifying.
Is there any way to modify the YouTube apk so that it won't play in HD? It's been getting annoying how it keeps trying to play in HD and just fails.

I'd like to know this as well.
Try the apk in the following link to play HQ youtube clips

Only problem is that Google play detects this as an old version and will try and update. You could always break the market link with Titanium Backup or similar program

I'm Running ICS and the only option in the Settings is to Disable HD over 3G, which the Nook doesn't have. Clicking the HD button disables HD playback for a Playlist but as soon as you leave the Playlist it defaults to HD again. Also HQ is also disabled if you Disable HD in the App. What I need is a patch for the Youtube app so that it thinks my Nook isn't HD capable as it's supposed to.

This was already suggested in this thread, but you can install an older version of YouTube that does not detect you are running in HD and it will play HD videos in HQ. They are decent quality and do not crash. But there is no tablet interface either. To keep play store from updating or bugging you, uncheck automatic updating for YouTube and tell it to not notify you of updates. Get the older version here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=17983409
It is version 2.1.6

I already know about that but I updated to CM9 to get the new ICS interfaces. I'd rather suffer the HD presses(Which are less difficult in the latest UI overhaul from Google) then Downgrade. I'm just expressing that I'd be interested if anybody wanted to try and patch it. I have nowhere near the coding skills to create a patch myself(I'm standing on Earth while the Skills are on Neptune).
