My wife accidently dropped her Hero in a glass of milk. Now do I need to unroot it before filing an insurance claim thru Asurion?

If it will turn on, yes.
Yeah, it turns on, but I just get a continuous bootloop. I figured they probably wouldn't like it very well if they see the CM7 bootscreen.

Well you could just say you lost it, it's a white lie, you lost the functionality of it.
Just ruu it, it it's in a bootloop you can ruu it still.

Yeah, I can get into recovery. I'm downloading the latest RUU right now. They'll just see stock bootloop instead of CM7 bootload.
Either that or put it back into the milk until it won't boot at all.

Actually I thought that Asurion didn't cover liquid damage, you better check that.
Put it in a bad of rice to dry out. You might not have to make an insurance claim.

Believe it or not, I tried turning it on one more time before flashing the RUU n it started up just fine, been running ever since. So I might not even need insurance after all!

I would. Better to be safe and unroot than for your insurance claim to be denied
But first get it to boot.

your battery probably just needed to dry out but yes i would deffinitly file a claime after u unroot
Ok, everything is working except the USB port. I tried unrooting with the HERCIMG.zip, but its not finding the file. What other way can I unroot?

hello
a friend of mine decided to go swimming with his cappy in his pocket, i let it sit for about a month now i just tried turning it on and it just sits at the att boot screen. i can not get to recovery but i can still access download mod. i flashed jf6 stock back onto it. and still sits on the att boot screen... what do i need to buy to get this working again?? thanks in avance
man, if its water damaged, i really doubt it can be saved, but it sounds like its the kernel based on what very little i know.
General rule of thumb:
large amounts of water+delicate electronics=bad news.
Sorry to say I think your friends device is toast

if u r a techie then try to open the phone and clen the mother board and blow some hot air using hair drier...
or if u not a techie then put the phone in jar full of rice...and leave it for a day or 2..and try reflashin..
coz u mentioned that u can get into recovery and odin is recognizin ur phone when u tried flashin to stock..so seems that some issue with internal sd connectivity because of water..
If there's moisture on the screen still you can try what Killer_raj said to try and dry it out, if it's all dry then what Kanji26 said is most likely the case and your friend has a new dive toy for the kids to fetch off the bottom of the pool.
If its been sitting with water damage for a month...probably corrosion has gotten to it.

Well....this is what i did guys. I opened phone up and took everything apart and had quite a bit of corrosion.took rubbing alcohol and q-tips and cleaned everything up the best i could hoping the alcohol would evaporate any water left. Put everything back together and fired phone up and bam went straight into recovery.shut phone off download mode and flashed a kernel with cwm and flashed apex 9.2 . Screen is fine with no moisture only problem is when i enable wifi i get a soft reboot but everything else works.

Wow that is amazing it's there anything our cappys can't do cuz I just added swimming to the list
Running Dlevs 5.0, and latest talon kernel, modem KC1
glad to hear that all worked out. i was going to post the other day that you may just need to clean the phone again as there may still be corrosion but you got it. And i will also be adding swimming to a list of things the cappy can do just to irritate people that pick on my poor phone
And...... The wifi stopped working again i think the wifi is just shot. Ive tried a bunch of different kernels and roms the wifi just errors out after scanning for 20+ seconds. Thoughts??

Hello all.
I have a Cricket Kyocera Zio M600 phone and it fell into water today, I immediately took it out, wiped it down and did the stupid thing that you're NOT supposed to do after a phone gets wet and turned it back on and it was working fine for about 4 hours. My buttons started acting up on me so I turned the phone off however, when I turn it back on it automatically goes to a black screen and says "FOTA update modem...0............................100%" and flashes on and off with that same message. Is the phone broke or is there something I can do to fix it?
I recommend running the leaked cricket Zio 2.2.1 windows updater.

yes, but before doing that pull the battery and let the phone dry out for 48 hours, from what you described it seems like the water inside of it may be shorting out the buttons and is causing it to go into Modem download mode.
Yeah, definitely let that thing dry... get a Ziploc bag and put your phone in there with enough rice so that the phone is buried in the rice. It will draw most of the moisture out of the phone within about a day.

So the revolution is my wife's phone and i apologize if this was posted because i dont follow these forums.
She was having a problem with the charging port not working. The cable had to be perfectly placed in the port for the phone to charge. Called verizon and they said they are out of replacement revolutions. Offered me a Droid charge, I asked for something else, they offered me a Thunderbolt, asked again for something else and the rep said no. I very politely said I wasn't fond of either phone and asked again if there was anything else. Ended up getting the Rezound.
Just an FYI.
If you go that route don't tell them that you have had a insurance replacement I tried but I had a insurance replacement it is still being sent to me free of charge cause it is under warranty but evidently asurion has a stock pile of these I'm going to try a few times in a row to see if they will budge but with all the minor issues with this phone it's easy to get a warranty replacement. Only thing that sucks is going back to stock to send it back.

You should try porting some of those Galaxy Nexus themes for the Revo
This is the third separate thread saying you can get a better phone for the REVO.
makes me want to try it, since without GingerVolt my phone restarts all the time.

I'm still having issues with my revo I wonder if I should try getting another model from them now. I've kinda just given up lately on this whole phone and it's making me depressed -_-. I can't do nothing with it without it freezing, rebooting, getting way to hot to touch, etc.
I just hate that the bluetooth never worked rooted or not. I try to be legal when driving and the bluetooth always failed.

I'm not sure what your Bluetooth issue is, but I don't think it's the phone. I've used mine with two different stereos for making calls as well as streaming audio with no issues at all.

I asked why and they said they took the revs off the shelves so no more replacement revs. If you have probs then call and they will offer somethine else. I took droid 4 because i wanted to try it out. Maybe they have other phones available. Im not sure. This was the 1st time i called about my rev. Just relaying the info I got. Enjoy

So is there any way I can purposely "break" my phone so I can use my warranty? \:
Just call and tell them that it randomly reboots itself and the screen freezes all the time, they will probably want to troubleshoot it. Just tell them youve deleted messages and apps and did a hard reset and it still does it.

Most likely means your store/area still has Revos and plus since your first replacement they'll try their best to keep you in the same phone.

Hello everyone... I have a really weird question: How can I kill my phone without the chance that the company finds out?
I'm stuck with a crappy contract and they won't let me finish it with my phone working... So... What should I do? The idea is that I kill the phone but that's impossible to discover that I did it...
Any ideas?
