1. Power off phone
2. Power on and hold volume down key to boot straight to recovery
3. Try flash again
Might be wrong here but I thought that to flash a rom you put it on the exteranl sd card and reboot in to recovery and then choose install zip from sdcard and then choose your file. there are a few files which you rename to "update.zip" and follow the process you have done but I sure a rom flash isn't that way.

OP cannot mount sd-card in recovery. What I mentioned was a workaround to enable mounting of sd-card. Once OP is able to mount sd-card then he is able to flash rom.
You need a physical SD to flash via CWM...

Yeah that's right you should put the whatever.zip somewhere on an external SD card. CWM cannot mount internal SD yet...
(just summarizing hat you guys above me said because OP might get confused )
Yeah u can only put a rom on by using an external sd card not the internal

My problem was, when i was in RomManager, i asked it to flash latest recovery, then 2 choices popped up, Xoom, and Xoom WiFi, well mine is a wifi version.. So i chose it... After going into recovery, i couldnt mount the SD card any more... Hmmm... Updates are good arent they? (that was to ver 5.x.x.x)
So i went back into Rom Manager and did it again, this time i chose just XOOM for the model, it went back to version 4.x.x.x.. Then i could mount the SD Card again...
Hope this helps..
R
mine was s-on with boot loader 1.12.720.3 same as most indian htc salsa
download the file adb fastboot and adbwin from below and unzip to
c:\android
and ph11img.zip from this post
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=723431&d=1316354019
copy the ph11img.zip to ur memory card
boot into ur bootloader holding power and volume down..
let the phone search for the zip file and when it asks to update or not select yes and let it update..
now u have the boot loader supported by htcdev.com
nw remove the ph11img file from ur sdcard
goto bootloader again select fastboot thn connect ur phone to pc
goto http://htcdev.com/bootloader/
select ur device as htc salsa
follow the steps directly from step 7
and if u do it correctly ull have a new tab in the hboot saying unlocked...
but it wld still indicate s-on
don worry u can nw easly have root acess nw
be sure to use the fastboot given by me
now first u need to get cmw recovery 5
follow this post to download recovery.rar
unrar it to android dir in c to get recovery.img
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=852074&d=1326296914
while ur phone is in fast boot type the command fasboot flash recovery recovery.img
now voila u got cmw5 recovery
to check pop the battery out again goto hboot
select recovery and a new screen will come with the new cmw5
paste root.zip to ur sd card which ull download from
http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=723432&d=1316354019
now in recovery select install from zip and select root.zip and select yes
now u have root acess
ull c a app called super user in ur phone
nw to increase ur internal size
go into cmw5 recovery goto advance then select to partition ur mrmy card
u must create 2 partitions
1) fat32
2)ext3
the size depends on your requirements
once dis is done
go to cwm recovery again, wipe data, cache and dakvik cache. Reboot.
Install busybox, and choose the version v1.17.1
now go to cwm recovery again.
flash htc-data2sd sdcard
reboot
and vooila u have increased ur internal memory space
Reboot

nice tutor, mate. you make it simple. well, im thinking about getting our salsa support ext4. it must be something cool..
thanks...
ya ext4 would be really good and stable...
ext 2 keeps giving me crash report for certain processes..
eagrly waitng for ext4..
How does it matter? I have ext2 and i receive 'Force close' error quiet often. Will ext4 work better?
ext2 is slow.....ext3 is better and more stable and you tend to not get force close, ext4 is the ultimate!
i cant get the ph11img.zip to get flashed
while i enter the hboot it finds it but dosnt ask me to flash it.. i belive it dosnt recognise it as a valid file . what am i doing wrong.
my salsa is hboot 1.07.0000 indian version
thats because with version 1.07 you need to go directly to htcdev for the update...it will update that way easier.....
Good tutorial.
Unlocked my salsa..
Increased internal memory but gives Force close on ext-2 and not much stable.
May be problem of my 8GB class 4 SD card.
Will try again when my 32GB class 10 SD card comes.....
I too have class 4 sd card, 8 gb.and everything is fine on my phone.make sure u have followed all steps correctly.

you just had a total failure on the data2sd side.
plz list up the following so we can help more
1-which rom are you using?
2-what ext partition have you setup
3-how big is the ext partition
4-how did you make the ext partition
Hi BigBearEvo Thanks for your reply I managed to get it working but i made a terrible mistake of formating the system, data and cache. Now when i turn on the phone all i see is the bootloader and it will not go past that coz i think i have formated the internal memory( if formating the above does that). I desperatly need a solution, the problem is that forgot to do a backup from cwm, i looked for an official rom but didnt find anything so i tryed flashing a custom rom (chinese rom, as it was the only one i could find) but it keeps saying error. Please if you know a solution to this tell me about it, atm my phone is useless. Thank you for your help it is very much appreciated.
Btw I am from Australia Im not sure what rom i was using before, I unlocked the bootloader from htcdev which meant i hadto download the RUU for Australia and update it. It was running stock rom. Sorry I am not very good at this stuff. When I turn on the phone this is all the information i can see:
ICON_G PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.08.0000
MICROP-0558
RADIO-7.51.35.19
Do u have recovery installed...if not...then we need to get it installed and get you flashing a new rom again.
Best option is.....somewhere in here is recovery 5.0.2.6 with instructions to flash via adb cmds.
Do this according to post, trust it will work!
Once that's installed go get either iconic or sense 3.5. Flash either of these and presto .....working phone again.
Takes a few mins to flash recovery and upto ten minutes for a custom rom.

I had the same problem so I unlocked the bootloader from htcdev and continued from intalling the cwm recovery step, it worked for me, try it.
Hay, I used the script data2sd-ext3 and that made my phone slow like a dead unit. However, i guess it is because my SD card is not a high speed card.
So i reinstalled everything without the data2sd script and it works well now.
I have a question thoug. I am using link2SD now, and most of the application are on SD card and still the phone speed is accetable. Not like data2sd(dead slow).
Question: When i use link2sd and move softwares to SD card. Will it move the application to ext partition or fat partition. I am asking this because it seems like my fat partition has a folder for each application I installed. and the space on fat is decreasing.
any ideas?
From what I gather it uses both and it doesn't truley move them. It still shows as using internal memory but holds alot on.SD. I.stopped using it the minute I got access to ext3 script.

Anybody out there willing to help this noob right here?(that's me)
like title said i need help to restore W8 to stock rom. i followed this youtube video on how to change W8 eclair 2.1 to gingerxperia vr.23 at first it was ok but then as i used the phone i experienced lots of bugs and errors... camera malfunction, calendar bugs, messages, screen display turning off on calls and alot more.
Now as ive read through out XDA i always see guys saying its easy just use the xrecovery, and use the backup. the problem is during installation of the gingerxperia i didnt create any backup at all (because i was following blindly at the video, he didn't create one i didn't create one either, it was stupid i know)
i download a stock rom named W8.Bld46.17.05.2011.rar it contains 4 files namely ( Cache.img, Data.img, nandroid.md5, sytem.img) but i dont know what to do to those file. please help me
if not for the lack of support for 2.1 eclair to move apps to sd i would have gone through this upgrading and all. i wish 2.1 has some fix to be able to move apps to sd thanks in advance guys. sorry for the bad english
On Your sd card there should be a folder called xrecovery. There should be another 2 folders - Backup and custom. So all You need to do is create a new folder in Backup and put there Cache.img, Data.img, nandroid.md5 and sytem.img.
I don't know if using sb else backup is safe, so in my opinion - You should just use SEUS or SE PC Companion to restore original firmware. These will also unroot Your mobile
And You realy didn't have to change Your firmware to move apps to SD. There are some apps - like Link2SD f.e.
There will be no xrecovery folder on SD Card but instead you will have clockworkmod if you have installed it and inside that ther will be a backup folder put this inside that and then reboot your phone go to clockworkmod recovery and select backup and restore and then click on restore. now your phone will get the stock rom from those four files
Regards
Profxv
well,i think you does not need to restore the stock rom, just download another full working rom,i suggest Gingerdx:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1188486 ,since it complete working rom that work on stock kernel,or if you had unlock ur bootloader you can install other rom...
all you need to do is
1.copy the downloaded rom *.zip file to your sd card, using card reader or any other way that work
2.reinsert your sd card to phone
3.power up the phone, while press and hold the back button (CWM recovery/xrecovery should appear)
4.choose wipe data/factory reset option, when prompted choose yes
5.then,select install zip from sdcard option>choose zip from sd card
6.find and select the *.zip that you placed in your sd card (you can placed it anywhere)
7.when prompted, choose yes...after that new rom will be install (takes some times)
8.after it complete, back to main menu and choose reboot system now
9.your phone will reboot and new custom rom succesfully install in your device
#you should choose the right rom first before installing it,and do read the REQUIREMENT of the rom, some need you to unlock bootloader,by the way, good luck
if i helped press thanks button

but then i noticed that i cant copy any files into internal or even external sd card by chance sometimes it gets copied but almost all times it keeps giving me this error
0x800703EE the volume for a file has been externally altered so that the opened file is no longer valid
also if i tried to download apps from google play first it gave me 927 error but now it goes into just downloading bar while real download never starts
what should i do i dont want to root my phone.I did factory reset.

I have never heard anyone having a problem like the one you're having...
But you will have to Root in-order to Backup your Data and/or files... then flash CoCore Kernel with TWRP to boot to Recovery and Backup only your Data in your Micro SD card.... then perform a Factory Reset or go back to Gingerbread....
(You can try this too, but it won't be much help.. also this doesn't require any Root too)... Connect your phone with your PC and copy everything to your PC
About the Error 927 from Google Play.... I don't know about that too... but try Wiping Cache and Dalvik using TWRP...
and BTW. I think the error 0x800703EE the volume for a file has been externally altered so that the opened file is no longer valid" is a Windows related issue.. not Android related..
About that google play error code...you can try checking with google play support about the error code if it persist.
And are you by any chance using 3g? Because the default setting for Play is to block big downloads if you're using 3g. Check your play setting, and if that didn't help then cancel the download in the app page and then restart it. It will ask you to allow the download with 3g or something like that. Don't use the online google play (play.google.com) from browser for this. Use the app

Repartition external SD, told 100 times from me. Search xda, internet... For answer how to do it. It is not just format. You need to remove and add partition. This is if you do not see any file in recovry. If you do, than you are doing something wrong.

Just as in previous post. And that happend because that second sd is partitioned as it should. That was the case for me too, old 2GB SD worked nice, and 8GB didn't work. After repartition of that 8GB it worked well too.

You can flash ur country's ROM using ODIN and for root u can use the same SD card and same root file for ur country's firmware. And backup the root file to your computer and copy it to sd card ONLY IF IT GETS DELETED.
Sent from my GT-I9070 using xda app-developers app
problem after cocore6 flash
i flashed cocore 6(TWRP 2.5) yesterday and and now i cant copy anything in my internal sd & the thing is same thing had happened before when i flashed XXLQB on gingerbread so to solve it i had to clear all caches and did factory reset(even when i had done this all after first flash) and after that flashed rom again & did previous procedure again then only i got back copying function.
is something wrong with my SGSA only that when i flash something this problem pops up? plz advice any solution thanx in advance.
P.S. i want to flash custom roms in future but i cant due to this problem :'(
Hello,
After some problems with mounting sd card on some ROMs I finally returned to stock firmware for i9070. One problem is - I do not see nothing in "apply zip..." either from sdcard or memory. I don't see nothing in catalogue tree. What should I do? I would try another time with one ROM but I cannot flash it via stock recovery. I tried to flash CWM (with kernel) but it has bricked my phone ;/
Or if somebody will provide me a link to good "other recovery" for i9070 I will be pleased and shake your hand

You need to install kernel with custom recovery. You did not tell what os yoh use, JB or GB.
P.S. You can't install ROM with stock recovery.

You probably had CWM, not stock recovery.
Root phone.
Install CoCore-E, Harsh build. (Unzip it, use kernel.bin.md5 with Universal Kernel flasher, and you will need some root explorer like ES file explorer to use file with Universal kernel flasher.
Voila.
Thank you so much - I'll try tomorrow
Uh. Uh. But wait. I don't see root.zip in that stock recovery. I can see nothing. That's the deal...

You must put it in external SD card.
And if you put it there, and still do not see anything - you need to repartition your sd card. Tutorial: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/SD_card_partitioning
Remember - repartition - not format. Backup your data from it, because you will loose everything from it.

And there's no way I'll do it without microSD card reader?

Use USB mass storage. And you will see SD as you see it with card reader.
If you are talking about cwm, then sometimes you need to unmount either sdcard or emmc
But I wouldn't count on this information
