[Q] Help in restoring SE W8 to stock - XPERIA X8 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Anybody out there willing to help this noob right here?(that's me)
like title said i need help to restore W8 to stock rom. i followed this youtube video on how to change W8 eclair 2.1 to gingerxperia vr.23 at first it was ok but then as i used the phone i experienced lots of bugs and errors... camera malfunction, calendar bugs, messages, screen display turning off on calls and alot more.
Now as ive read through out XDA i always see guys saying its easy just use the xrecovery, and use the backup. the problem is during installation of the gingerxperia i didnt create any backup at all (because i was following blindly at the video, he didn't create one i didn't create one either, it was stupid i know)
i download a stock rom named W8.Bld46.17.05.2011.rar it contains 4 files namely ( Cache.img, Data.img, nandroid.md5, sytem.img) but i dont know what to do to those file. please help me
if not for the lack of support for 2.1 eclair to move apps to sd i would have gone through this upgrading and all. i wish 2.1 has some fix to be able to move apps to sd thanks in advance guys. sorry for the bad english

On Your sd card there should be a folder called xrecovery. There should be another 2 folders - Backup and custom. So all You need to do is create a new folder in Backup and put there Cache.img, Data.img, nandroid.md5 and sytem.img.
I don't know if using sb else backup is safe, so in my opinion - You should just use SEUS or SE PC Companion to restore original firmware. These will also unroot Your mobile
And You realy didn't have to change Your firmware to move apps to SD. There are some apps - like Link2SD f.e.

There will be no xrecovery folder on SD Card but instead you will have clockworkmod if you have installed it and inside that ther will be a backup folder put this inside that and then reboot your phone go to clockworkmod recovery and select backup and restore and then click on restore. now your phone will get the stock rom from those four files

well,i think you does not need to restore the stock rom, just download another full working rom,i suggest Gingerdx:http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1188486 ,since it complete working rom that work on stock kernel,or if you had unlock ur bootloader you can install other rom...
all you need to do is
1.copy the downloaded rom *.zip file to your sd card, using card reader or any other way that work
2.reinsert your sd card to phone
3.power up the phone, while press and hold the back button (CWM recovery/xrecovery should appear)
4.choose wipe data/factory reset option, when prompted choose yes
5.then,select install zip from sdcard option>choose zip from sd card
6.find and select the *.zip that you placed in your sd card (you can placed it anywhere)
7.when prompted, choose yes...after that new rom will be install (takes some times)
8.after it complete, back to main menu and choose reboot system now
9.your phone will reboot and new custom rom succesfully install in your device
#you should choose the right rom first before installing it,and do read the REQUIREMENT of the rom, some need you to unlock bootloader,by the way, good luck
if i helped press thanks button

Thanks sir Bolussimo

There was a problem with SEUS on the 1st week of January for me. But after that there was an update. And now it's working. You should try "repair" option, where You must choose Your device [W8].
"sb" means somebody [else] xD

[Q] ROM manager to O2X ?

@Moderator - Move this to Themes and Apps - Thought I posted it correct but not.
Hi all,
I've downloaded ROM Manager to my O2X - but when I try to search for new ROM's then it says that I need to install CWM via ROM Manager and then I press "Yes" and then a dropmeny comes up and there are 2 different phone-models to choose from.....none of them are O2X.
I read at CM's forum that it would be good to have it, then we will get notify asap when CM7 is realesed to our phone...
If you know what I'm doing wrong, plz help then !
Thanks in advance!

There should be 4 options when u select Flash clockwork recovery from ROM Manager. The last option is "LG Optimus 2X".

@Temasek, maybe you can post your APK-file here ?

Latest ROM Manager:
ClockermodRecovery is probably the best option, at least for me :=)
I installed Clockworkmod recovery 3.0.1.4 over PC because at these times ROM Manager didn't worked, now I installed ROM Manager v4.2.0.2 from market and it says that there is a new ClockworkMod Recovery availible (3.0.2.8) so I wanted to installed it, but it says: failure while installing!
Same when I try to install older version (3.0.2.7)!
I still can get into the recovery mode, so it didn't mess anything up...
It never asked for root permission when I'm choosing Install ClockworkMod, only at Reboot in Recovery-mode, is that normal?
What can I do to get the new version of ClockworkMod Recovery???
Thanks
It should ask for root permissions when it tries to flash the new recovery.
Ok, thanks solved it, it was because of my problems with the baseband 0405 :/...
I have install the last Rom Manger version but have problems with recovery and the "format sd card" option.
I made a backup from Rom Manger and this was ok but when i want to restore the backup i cant choose the backup. The screen was black.
Is this a problem with the internal SD card? The backup was made on the ext. SD card but i cant choose it, only from recovery menue (power button and
loud down).
Other problem, the format SD Card option doesnt work for me.
The problem is ROM Manager uses the internal SD card and CMR uses the external one. To restore your backup boot to recovery yourself rather than using ROM Mangers restore/manage option.

Cant install a ROM :(

1. Power off phone
2. Power on and hold volume down key to boot straight to recovery
3. Try flash again
Might be wrong here but I thought that to flash a rom you put it on the exteranl sd card and reboot in to recovery and then choose install zip from sdcard and then choose your file. there are a few files which you rename to "update.zip" and follow the process you have done but I sure a rom flash isn't that way.

OP cannot mount sd-card in recovery. What I mentioned was a workaround to enable mounting of sd-card. Once OP is able to mount sd-card then he is able to flash rom.
You need a physical SD to flash via CWM...

Yeah that's right you should put the whatever.zip somewhere on an external SD card. CWM cannot mount internal SD yet...
(just summarizing hat you guys above me said because OP might get confused )
Yeah u can only put a rom on by using an external sd card not the internal

ah ok thank u !!
i dont know that .. with my galaxy s i can install every rom without phys sd card and cmw
edit : other question .. i saw in the MoDaCo Fear rom that u need a new baseband ...
how do i change/update my baseband?
newer do that on my gs too^^

help a noob fast

okay ive done the superoneclick thing, im now rooted. Ive installed the ROM manager and installed the ClockworkMod Recovery. What do I do next?
Do i have to make a nandroid backup?
Ive downloaded a ROM i want to use, but have problems with wiping the phone. How do I do this?
so basically
1. how to nandroid backup
2. how to wipe full
3. how to install my rom, fr17 vanilla kitchen unsigned
hope for easy help thanks
just reboot into recovery, either via rom manager or shut off and then hold pwr+vol.up untill you get into recovery..the rest you will understand, just read dont forget the rom zip has to be on external sd not internal, good luck!
yea then im ****ed, i dont have any other sd card than the internal...
then it not possible to flash anything
what if i borrow one from a friend? Can i put the rom on there, install it to my internal, and then use the phone all good? if yes, where do i put the rom on the sd card? it is a winrar, and in there it is one iso file, and 3 folders.
sure you can do that, put the zip file wherever you want and can find it
do not touch the zip file dont unzip or anything, just leave it as it is..
okay nice thanks Do I just use ROM manager to install it and then browse to it? Also I had a sd card thing from an old sony ericson, but it was just a little to big:/ what exactly does the optimus 2x use? Micro sd card?
yes you can install with rom manager but i preffere to bootin with pwr+vol.up no risk at all. and yes most phones today use micro sd
Is the rom manager's cwm capable of flashing all the custom rom for the lg o2x? Can i use it on mcr and cm7 for example? TIA
yes it works for all roms
Ah okay.

Can you boot into recovery mode? Try it.
If not, try to boot into download mode. If it works, flash the stock firmware using Odin.
Then you can install everything again.
That's how you should install a new ROM:
First off all you need CWM installed.
Then
Wipe data
Wipe cache
Wipe dalvik cache
Format system
install zip from sd card (choose your zip etc.)
Reboot
How?

If you don't have CWM installed on your phone, how did you try to install JB?
I hope that you didn't use ROM Manager, as this would be the VERY end of your phone: Hard-bricked.
To boot into recovery hold down the power and the home button until the Samsung logo appears for the second time. Try this and report whether it is working.
---------- Post added at 05:04 PM ---------- Previous post was at 04:16 PM ----------
Sorry, didn't read your post completely.
Congratulations. Your device isn't hard-bricked.
1) You can download CWM 5 here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1291327
2) Flash it using apply update from sd card.
3) Then download your ROM. I recommend this one: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2173576
4) Copy it to your SD card.
5) Backup your apps and data using apps like Titanium Backup.
6) Backup your old ROM using CWM
7) Wipe data
8) Wipe cache
9) Advanced > Wipe dalvik cache
10) Mounts ... > Format system
11) Install zip from sd card > choose zip from sd card
12) Reboot
13) Restore all apps and data using apps like Titanium Bakup.
That's it.
Good luck!

CWM is an abbreviation for "ClockWork Mod". It is an alternative recovery tool.
Are you shure that you installed CWM 5? There should also be a "install zip from sdcard" option which is essential for flashing your phone.
So try flashing it again.
You didn't backup your files before flashing. Bad news.
I guess that you have just copied the files on your SD card. Now you won't be able to restore your apps and data. I'm sorry to tell you, but now you won't be able to restore your apps and data.
Flash CWM 5 again. The one in the linked thread.
Then flash the ROM again in the way I described.
Afterwards everything should be working.

I don't think that you will be able to get your data back.
And your apps: They are stored in the .android_secure folder on the sd card or in the /data/app folder. At mount time the .android_secure folder isn't shown as it is mounted to /mnt/asec. That means that you will be able to access these files there on a rooted phone. However, both folders gets deleted during flashing.
For the future: Use backup apps like Titanium backup. There is also Carbon backup by one of the Cyanogenmod developers (Koush). It is easier to use, but it isn't compatible with Link2SD if you use that.
On the new android versions you can also backup using Google's backup function. However, you will have to install all manually apps again. Your data will be recovered on installation. I recommend Titanium backup. You can get it from Google Play.
Are you unable to access all files from your sd card? If so copy all your files to your computer, reboot into recovery and format the card using CWM 5. Copy the data back to the SD card.

You can use the batch actions. It can either found using the menu that shows up in the options menu if you press the menu key or if you are on a newer ROM (4.xx) there is an icon in the action bar for that. The bad thing: You need the Pro version for that. However, it is really worth the money. It will save you a lot of time if you flash different ROMs often.
If you do not want to buy the pro key, you need to select the app and click restore. Do that for every single app. It is annoying. So support the dev if you have got the money.

You can download good file explorers from Google Play. I use Antek Explorer, but others are good as well. Use the one you like best.

[Q] Splash loop

After installing Semaphore's ClockworkMod Recovery via Heimdall Suite my i9000 do not boot. It show the splash samsung-logo, than the screen switch to black an after 2-3 seconds the splash-logo will be showed.
I can turn on the Semaphore CWM Recovery and I could (I hope so) flash a new CyanogenMod or so BUT! But i need the data from my cellphone.
Questions:
It's possible to access in Semaphore CWM Recovery mode the data to copy them to PC via USB or to external SD-Card?
It's possible to make a backup to external SD-Card? How to mount the external card?
It's possible to flash a new zImage (like the original one) to boot normally? Where I can get this image? Heimdall works still properly.
What i can do to rescue my data.
Thank You,
MiniX1
don't worry, you won't loss anything on your sdcard when flashing new custom rom, but you will loss apps that you've already installed.

beating around the bush mate not wise to use nandroid backup as more work involved. , just use cwm to mount USB storage and you can copy the entire SD card contents to PC or whatever yu need or move to ext SD card.
