I don't see how you could possibly receive an sms with airplane mode on. Once it is enabled, your phone's radio is disabled causing no communication to the device. Maybe your device sort of malfunctioned when it used to. Anyways if what you're saying is true then I have to ask: did you update/downgrade your radio before it stopped working how you want it to? If so, what radio version did you have? and you can downgrade/update back to that radio version. Hope this helps.
Yeah...pretty weird...I haven't done anything with the radio....I know it worked because I would enable airplane mode at work...and after receiving a text the airplane mode icon would enable...this made my battery last for hours and hours...now though with it not working like it was and having to leave airplane mode off ...the battery drains really fast.

Must have been a glitch, because it's simply not possible at all.
yeah, must have been....but it was cool while it lasted...lololol
i didn't think this was possible
wierd
I have an Indian mobile, micromax aisha a52 running android 2.3 . I can confirm that i'm able to "send" sms in flight mode. it does not change the mode to general mode. I can completely send sms using flight mode (I know this thread is 2years old now. Anyone else with the same wierdness?)
EDIT: found out that i can send , receive both sms and messaging calls. So the airplane mode is broken. Looks like micromax does not turn off radio at all when I put the phone to airplane mode. What a trick. Damn these cheap fones...
i try to found the seloution but not possiple dear
i never heard this before. all network is gone when airplane mode, just wireless works.
I received 2x SMS from operator to my tablet when it was in Airplane Mode. when I imediatellly try send from other device SMS or call to tablet, it wasnt possible. it looks operator have some special option to send SMS to AM devices, so its very very strange!

I've got mine to check email at regular intervals - but it won't wake up from standby to check mail. Does yours?
I did do something rash, I fear - used scarybears check notifications to clear all but 4 notifications, at which point activesync didn't recognize the device. I fixed that by adding a new notification (memmaid) but I wonder if screwing with the notifications has messed other things up. Any thoughts?

yes it is since yours is the only one messed up lol.. Guess leson learned huh
OK I tested this and my phone just retrieves all the mail, I send myelf several emals to several accounts and most of my intervals are set to 60 min and it gets retrieved (in standby mode).
I also have the same problem. Tried hard resetting but still no email check in standby mode. I have not installed any custom software in the device.
Any help would be much appreciated.
BTW: Also can it be the device?
Finally isolated the problem - fix?
Using ATT and if I have the band selection on AUTO and if the phone changes from 3G to EDGE back and forth the automatic email checking suddenly stops. But if I leave it on one band the email checking works flawlessly. I would really appreciate if someone could shed some light on this matter.
I just noticed yesterday that my email was also not coming in until after I took the phone off sleep.

So I am not alone on this.
I experience the exact thing. Moment I take it off standby mode it says connecting .... and so on.
I am trying everything under the sun will update if I get lucky. Although exchange mail gets delivered no matter what.

So what'd you do to fix this? According to your modaco posting, you found the solution. Was it the hard reset?
I have only had my TyTN II for 10 days and now I'm getting this problem!
I am also trying to find a solution.
So far, I have uninstalled SBP Phone Suite, as their support forum talks about it messing up the Notification Queue - i.e. blocking new notifications. THis hasn't made any noticeable difference though.
I am left with the three installs that were supplied with the device - TTN6, GPRS Monitor (SPB software branded by HTC) and Sprite Backup....surely, if these are bundled with the device they shouldn't cause any disturbances?
Anyway....considering a Hard Reset unless anyone makes any breakthroughs....
Does this make sense?
I have my scheduled email check set at 15 minutes:
If I have new mail: it doesn't notify me, and seems to get stuck waiting to download the emails. Result: when I power-up it then starts downloading the emails and shortly notifies me of their arrival
If I have no new mail: it does notify me that I still have x number of unread emails in my inbox.
My only conclusion so far is that if it detects new emails on the server it cannot download them until you pull it out of sleep. Else it just checks as per the schedule and will notify you that you still have unread (previously downloaded) mail.

Kavi, please can you confirm if you "solved" the problem by fixing your band selection to EDGE? Obviously, this isn't an ideal workaround (when we've all spent a lot of dough on this device), but may help us narrow down the issue somewhat.
Still working on this issue. Figured out what the problem is but still no solution.
The sleep mode is termed as "Turn off device if not used..." in the power settings.
It receives calls fine AND wakes the phone while in this mode.
I configured my WLAN on the phone. When woken from sleep mode, I noticed that it was disconnected from the WLAN and connected to EDGE. The "E" would appear and then it'd change to show that it was re-connecting to the WLAN.
I found it strange that 1. It switched off the WLAN and onto EDGE during sleep and 2. It could not receive emails while on EDGE.
I turned the sleep mode off and once the backlight dimmed to indicate sleeping I shot myself a test email. Received no problem.
I turned the sleep mode off AND the disconnected from WLAN. No email.
So, for some reason, while on EDGE or, in my case, the AT&T data network, no email is coming thru.
Could it be something not properly configured for the data network or is there something on the phone that needs to be changed? *SHRUG* My investigation continues...
Finally found the solution but it could be valid only for my device. (finally I could get some sleep now ;-)
If I press the power button and put it into standby mode no emails at all. If I let it go into standby mode automatically then no problems at all.
I tested so many different settings but this is the only solution I found to work and the device has been checking mail every 10 minutes for the past 30 hours with no issues at all.
Give it a shot might work for you too.
Is this issue only related to POP email? Or is this occuring for Exchange Push as well?

First I thought exchange worked but in my case if I put it into standby mode even exchange push will not work.
But if I let it go to sleep automatically everything works fine.
Hi. some observations.
1) In my device Direct push works correctly when I turn off the device using the button.
2) Sometimes System Notifications (Stored on System queue) doesnt work correctly until I turn on the device.
3) Some programs that should react upon Radio events like CommMgrPro that should awake when GSM Cell changes arent notified by Windows until I turn on the device. It seems some events cant raise power mode from suspended to idle. It works correctly on TyNT and Athena.

Hmmm.. Exchange works for me when the device is asleep... I even have the phone set to vibrate when mail come in.
I have not yet set up a pop account though.. I'll give it a shot.
I'm working with POP3.
Getting closer to the resolution.
It was, in fact, that my data services connection was incorrectly configured for AT&T. The access point was set to "isp.cingular" instead of "wap.cingular". Username was also incorrect. Once I reset that, I was connected fine.
My problem now is that the connection is intermittent. If it sleeps, it's as if it loses connectivity. This is an auto-sleep sleep.
I also noticed that the read emails get tossed out as the new email arrives...hmmm...another issue.
Pretty basic question which I couldn't seem to find the answer for...
If I set my bionic to "Maximum battery saver mode" will I still receive text messages instantly without looking at the phone first? In other words, are they part of "sync"?
This is the only thing holding me back from not using this profile. I do not need to be constantly receiving notifications for email/facebook.
Thanks

Your texts come in over your cellular signal, not data signal. You can have data off and you will still receive texts.

sync is data as already mentioned. you don't need it for sms / mms
I'm talking about the 3g, not text messages. Thx

Mine automatically comes back after a couple minutes but I don't use Max. You can try using airplane mode for a few seconds; then turn it off. That reset's your radios. Otherwise just shutdown and reboot; you shouldn't have to pull the battery out.
Hey guys, apologies if this has already been queried, I look around first and couldnt find another thread about it, just similar topics.
I recently got the Xperia Z and I've got the Stamina mode turned on. As I have unlimited data, I always leave my data turned on and I have switched on the the location based WIFI so that my phone can auto switch to WIFI when Im somewhere that I have successfully connected to before.
My question is though, to get the benefit of all this battery saving modes, in the WIFI settings where it says 'Keep on during sleep' should I turn that to 'Only when plugged in/Never' or can I leave it set as 'Always' cause of having Stamina mode on? Or does the Stamina mode only turn my mobile data on/off?
Thanks for any and all help guy.

For my device, the Wifi setting bypasses the Stamina mode...if you really want to save power...put the wifi on never setting.
Thanks chefnoob,
when you say bypass, you mean that it doesn't turn off WiFi for your device, only mobile data? Sorry to sound like such a noob. I have set it to 'Only when plugged in' as whenever its plugged in, it is charging, so I don't worry about power saving during this time.
Have you, or anyone else, come across problems with Whatsapp being a huge battery drain? Stamina mode had notified me that Whatsapp was preventing it from fully working, but it was only when i finally decided to check in my battery usage that i realized it was using as much as 75% of my battery :/. Tried force stopping it, but then It stops you from receiving messages until you decide to open the app again.
I am hoping that it gets fixed in an update soon, if not I may have to uninstall.
Thanks again. Gaz
You'll save more power by keeping your wifi always on.
I beg to differ.

mengsuan - But that would mean all the time my phone is locked it will still be connected/trying to connect to WiFi, where as if I have my WiFi set to one of the other two, like the mobile data in stamina mode, it will be temporarily turned off until unlock my phone again. Surely the latter would be more power saving, having mobile and WiFi disable themselves whenever the device goes into sleep?

Yes, meaning that even if I had the stamina mode on... If the WiFi is set to always, the WiFi still connects...
Dont quote me on this but I think stamina mode only works with data.

Yes, that is correct...
Also, if you set WiFi to "always" and you are not connected to a network, it uses up more power to seek for networks...
With your whatsapp problem, I think you have a conflict happening...
Maybe you got the whatsapp set to sync regularly while you have stamina mode on. What happens is, whatsapp tries to connect/sync but it cant due to stamina mode. Try this work around...
If you want to keep using whatsapp, add it to the exemption list in stamina mode. That way, it wont block it.
If you dont really need whatsapp, just disable it...you'll save more power using the latter.

Oh right, thanks chefnoob
In regards to the WiFi, I have set it to 'Only when plugged in' as I dont mind it being on more whilst my device is charging. When I unlock my device and I'm in range of one of my 'location based Wifi'' spots, it doesn't take very long to connect so that I can use that rather than mobile data.
As for Whatsapp, I don't really use it a huge amount, but I'm not fully decided on whether I want to uninstall yet haha, so my 'kind of' fix for now is to go on to read/reply to a message from someone, then if I expect a quick reply back leave it for a few minutes, if not I just force stop the app and check it again later on. A tedious job just to use an app, i know, but at the moment its my main method of contact with one of my friends, so I will need to find a new way before uninstalling.
Thanks anyway though, to you all, for help in answering my question and clearing it all up for me

I can't seem to get "assist" to not accept calls while in sleep mode. All calls ring through no matter what. I have "silence" checked and if I set the time from 7am-5pm when I test it with another phone the call comes through. The phone number I am calling from is not marked as a favorite. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

I've found this feature to be so buggy that it's not even usable. I had the same problem as you, and read tips online that say to reset the app data. I did that, reconfigured the app, and then sleep mode worked as advertised. Next day, busted again. If you want to reset the app every day, that seems to be the only way to get it to work. Lame...
I guess we are the only ones with this problem! I'll call their tech support and see if they could help me.
Hi all,
my 4X, Miui 9.5.4.0 ROM, will not receive text messages most of the time. I can send texts OK but for the most part I cannot receive a text. I say for the most part because every now and then one seems to sneak through for some reason.
The only messaging app installed is the stock MIUI one that came with the phone. I did try a couple of other messaging apps with the same result. They have since been removed.
Any thoughts or ideas appreciated.
TIA

I can't imagine it's something wrong with MIUI? it never actually happened to me, I'd contact your carrier first, perhaps they have blocked numbers from texting you
I recommend also checking in Settings; System apps > Call settings > Blocklist to see if the phone has blocked incoming test messages from any numbers

I've just placed the SIM into another phone and it works fine, so it's not the carrier. Checked blocklist and nothing there, plus I can miss and intermittently get texts from the same person.
It's got to be a MIUI thing!

No I have a strong signal, so I do not think it's that.
Just did a test:
1. Rebooted phone
2. As soon as the lockscreen appears I sent a text from my wife phone.
3. It is received.
4. Wait one minute and send another 3 texts from my wifes phone.
5. None received.
6. Reboot phone.
7. The 3 missed texts arrive as soon as the phone reboots.
8. Wait one minute and send another 3 texts from wife's phone.
9. None received.
10. Reboot phone
11. 3 missed texts arrive as soon as the phone reboots.
It has to be MIUI.

That sounds annoying... If you can, go to developer options, and enable "Show all ANR" and use the phone (especially SMS) for a while to see if the culprit is a system process failing to stay alive, and try to clear all data for that process
You should be able to find the process by going to "Installed apps" and enabling "Show system apps"
Researching more on the problem has no real conclusion at all.. Some people solved the problem by just doing a factory reset, some more gets it fixed after calling their carrier, another gets it fixed (temporarily) by just turning airplane mode on and off

I have found the problem. "Turn on MIUI optimization" in Developer Options was turned OFF. Turning it ON fixed the receiving of texts. Tried several times turning it OFF and then ON and texts stopped everytime it was OFF. Don't know what this setting does but it needs to be ON to receive texts.

That's weird! I have it off all the time, what it does is
1. Closes apps in memory prematurely, this can be bad or good, unused ram is wasted ram anyway
2. Monitor background services and disabled part of it when you're not actually using it, this killed notifications for certain apps for me, at least back in MIUI 8
There's more, but it's really trivial like UI changes it does, happy it's solved though
