Problem flashing Cyanogen! - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey, hope i can get a quick response to this as dont have long! lol
im in the process of flashing cyanogen 7 to my sgs, im in recovery mode looking to use 'galaxys-efsbackup.zip', but upon running im getting the error
cant open /mnt/sdcard/galaxy-efsbackup.zip (bad)
but its in root and im able to pick it from the recovery menu so i dont see whats up?
ooo have i just answered my own question lol, does it need to be in true root! ? if so sorry, didnt realise till i type that above

Have you made sure your previous rom was a froyo one? I made the same mistake and wouldn't flash for me. Search for ezbase rom. flash with that first and then follow the instructions for cyanogen.
Hope this helps

[Q] (Q) Going from 2.2 froyo to 2.1 stock on Captivate?

I currently have the Froyo 2.2 I897UCKB1 on my Samsung captivate. I'm trying to go back to stock in order to have Serendipity 6.2...
I've read everywhere and searched everything I could...It seems ATT updated froyo so I can do anything with update.zip or go into downloading mode, just recovery mode...
Can anyone solve my problem... I have rooted it and unlocked Non market apps on it...
Oh yes, I used Kies in order to update to 2.2

you dont need to go to 2.1 stock. just any stock.
hell i dont even bother going to stock between rom.
almost all the roms WIPE your phone before install anyway.... so stock goes bye bye,,,
You must not have searched too hard because this has been answered at least a dozen times. Newbie FAIL.
With him on 2.2, 3e would cause a few extra steps before he actually got a new rom flashed, right?

Unable to install any 2.2 rom

Hey all,
I had a lot of help earlier from the Cognition chat room in trying to get it installed. Every time I flash to stock, go into Clockwork Recovery, and try to install Cognition, it rebooted the first time, and I'm sitting at the AT&T screen. It will not go past this. I thought it was something with the rom, so I tried other 2.2 roms, like Serendipity and Firefly. I've used these roms on this phone in the past and never had an issue with them. Now, no matter what rom I try, it just sits at the AT&T logo after first boot. When I tried installing Firefly, I actually got an error: can't symlink /system/xbin/su. I'm not sure what's going on, but I was on MIUI before, flashed to stock using the 1 click JF6 return to stock.
Any info would be helpful.
Which cognition

I would try flashing stock again. Let it boot all the way, then reboot, go into recovery and try flashing your rom
I too am having similar issues. When i reboot into recovery there is no place to select which rom. Using rom manager clockwork mod and firefly. Yes i'm a noob. Any instructions are appreciated. I have read through and can't find exactly what I'm looking for. thanks in advance.

ROM Manager and CWM do NOT work on Milestone.. Even though it does say it works, it doesn't. OpenRecovery and any mod of it is the only thing that works.
Right now, you have a semi-brick. You need to reflash a stock SBF for your country (to get 3G/data) and then restart the rooting process with the VR, installing OR, etc.
http://and-developers.com/sbf:milestone221
There should really be a sticky for this. It wouldn't be too hard, and should be read by all before they flash a new ROM or ask this question
Oh god! Thanks...
So after 1,5 years i would have to start from scratch! :-(
At least i am not using 3g and at least i can use it as a phone...

Regardless, any custom ROM is better than stock 2.2.1, so I would say it's worth the effort to re-root and flash another custom ROM.

Can someone help me?
i run my country's SBF through RSD, but i am stuck on the "android" logo at the start of the phone.
Anyway i can go past this?
The phone might be 100% bricked now?
OK Solved - had to find a non service SBF....
By the way almost all the links for the sbf's are not valid anymore! It would be a nightmare for someone trying to find old SBF's now...

[Q][BIT NOOBISH REALLY]Can't remember how to root after official update

Sorry about this, I've tried a quick search to avoid this embarrassment but nobody else seems to be this forgetful.
Anyway, I installed an official OT to 2.3.6 the other week and obviously lost root access. Problem is that I also lost custom recovery (just get the exclamation mark and the little android) and can't remember how to get root access back without just flashing the su.zip.
So... little help please? Preferably someway that won't involve my computer (its having some aging issues if you know what I mean... bit temperamental). Think I heard something once about an app called Ginger root or something that sounded about right.
Once again sorry for wasting your time but I could do with the help here.
Thanks in advance,
Addam.
You will need to either unlock the bootlader or downgrade using passimg because gingerbreak was patched in 2.3.4.
Well I'm not sure what difference the bootloader makes but mine is unlocked if you feel like explain it. If not downgrading shouldn't be an issue. Thanks for the help.

If you have an unlock bootloader use fastboot too install a custom recovery. Boot into recovery and flash ROM of choice. Check out the wiki, good stuffs
Edit: sorry about what this post used to say. Posted on wrong thread I think. Anyway thanks for the advice I guess I should stop looking for lazy ways of doing this kind of thing. Cheers.

Please help - t-mo g1

Hey guys, I had dug out my old HTC G1 and was trying out the new roms. I was running on 2.3.4 I believe and before flashing anything I had made a Nandroid backup. After flashing couple of Roms i didn't like them and I tried to flash a specific one recommended by someone and after flashing my phone was stuck on the G1 screen and nothing after that.
So I went back into recovery and tried to flash the rom again and it didn't work, then I tried another rom which had previously worked and that one didn't boot up either and finally I tried to restore from Nandroid and that didn't work either, phone is still stuck on G1 screen as of right now.
I am attaching a picture of the Hboot and SPL etc if thats any help, but if someone could help me out it would be great I would hate to have this phone just be a paper weight.
Thanks again!
EDIT*
Guys the two posts that are in reply to this thread by me are from a different thread where I had originally reported my concerns, I have included them in this thread so in case anyone else is running into similar issues they can possibly obtain something useful from them.

Re: [ROM][4.0.4][29.01.13] BananaSandwich v0.2 - first smooth & fast ICS ROM (CM9 bas
If you were following the full directions in the banana bread thread then you would be at least attempting to use cmtd, but not a requirement. Yes you should update radio and SPL, as well as flash amonra recovery, no need to unroot. Just search out ezterrys thread in the developers section titled 2708+ update, and follow all steps there, even will find a link for amonra.
Search out cmtd if you want to learn more, not required hardly ever but can be nice. Also you can repartition SD when ever you want, no unroot needed for that, if you have further questions I suggest not leaving them in this unrelated thread as respect to developer
Edit, I see you already have another thread in the works, post any question there and someone will help, chances are the cmtd did work when flashing bannanabread which would make sense if you cant restore nandroid as partitions changed. Also note you need to do a full wipe, preferably a super wipe or fast boot -w in between ROM flashes, and yes even when restoring a nandroid

1. Flash this: http://www.mediafire.com/?upf6u8m0zb70ag5 then full wipe and reboot
http://www.mediafire.com/?a3ay0gxvfj9y8
2. flash radio 2.22.27.08, reboot
3. flash hboot0013d, reboot
4. flash recovery-ra-dream-v1.7.0-automtd.zip reboot
make sure you have partitioned sdcard (swap, sd-ext - I recommend ext4)
then follow instructions from ROM topic
I'm sure it will work

Yea the links are down in that thread and banana gave me the links for specifically running bananabread rom, but im a bit confused that if i do use the automtd is that going to cause problems if I decide to change the rom from bananabread?
also there is another link that someone posted above (rooting guide in sense) and I was wondering if i followed that would that resolve anything...
going from having too little information now i have too much information and am confused as to which path to choose, right about right now I wish i was just prescribing a patient some medicine lol
thanks for your continuous help and i hope you can help me figure this out!
If youre around in a couple hours (3hrs?) Ill be at a computer and can get you the images needed and walk you through it, other wise just make sure you read before flashing firmwafre.
