Help - problem entering in recovery - Motorola Droid and Milestone Q&A, Help & Troublesh

Hi,
I am running FroyoMod, and i installed ROM manager. Through there i clicked 'flash ClockworkMod Recovery' and now i cannot enter into recovery at all.... the worst thing is that my phone cannot connect to wifi connection and i cannot go into recovery to clean Dalvik cache in order to test it if this sloves my problem.
Any suggestions?

ROM Manager and CWM do NOT work on Milestone.. Even though it does say it works, it doesn't. OpenRecovery and any mod of it is the only thing that works.
Right now, you have a semi-brick. You need to reflash a stock SBF for your country (to get 3G/data) and then restart the rooting process with the VR, installing OR, etc.
http://and-developers.com/sbf:milestone221
There should really be a sticky for this. It wouldn't be too hard, and should be read by all before they flash a new ROM or ask this question

Oh god! Thanks...
So after 1,5 years i would have to start from scratch! :-(
At least i am not using 3g and at least i can use it as a phone...

Regardless, any custom ROM is better than stock 2.2.1, so I would say it's worth the effort to re-root and flash another custom ROM.

Can someone help me?
i run my country's SBF through RSD, but i am stuck on the "android" logo at the start of the phone.
Anyway i can go past this?
The phone might be 100% bricked now?

OK Solved - had to find a non service SBF....
By the way almost all the links for the sbf's are not valid anymore! It would be a nightmare for someone trying to find old SBF's now...

can FRG83 be soft-rooted?

Is there any current way to root the Nexus One on FRG83 (2.2.1) to where you don't have to unlock the bootloader?
Basically looking to be able to flash a ROM without voiding my warranty for good by unlocking the bootloader, since that cannot be restored to factory no matter what.
Any help would be appreciated, I have searched all the N1 forums but haven't seemed to find this out.

Downloaded lasted nightly build
rename to update.zip
copy to sdcard
power phone up in bootloader
choose recovery
At this stage all I see is the andriod and a ! , it doesn't seem to flash.
I am on 2.2.0
alos how log did the flash take juat is case I'm not waiting long enough

I used RomManager to install the ClockWorkRecovery , and then installed using ClockWorkRecovery.
Cheers, just figured that out
Rom booting up now.

Should be able to download it using rommanager as well!
Rom Manager didn't find them either
Right now I'm watching the Cyanogen logo just pop up send a lighting blot around the andriod then pop off (over and over).
I take it this is what you saw? Also been about 5 mnutes now.

I saw that but it didn't take more than a minute for the first boot.
Sorted now.
Process for me was to
root phone using the software on the first page
download the lasted nightly build
copy it to sdcard
download Rom manager
Allow Rom manager to install its recovery image
DO BACKUP
boot into bootloader
start up recovery which started rom manager's recovery
clean all old data (hence why it wasn't booting correctly)
flash rom
I can also confirm it is now possible to run custom roms without unlocking your device (no padlock on bootup screen).
Thanks JWhipple

After booting aospCMod 2.3.2

So for the past two days I've been trying to flash the new AOSP Gingerbread ROM, but although I follow everything straight from the wiki it always seems to get stuck on the HTC screen after the last reboot. Help me please!
EDIT: So I somehow got the rom to boot last night using RA recovery but after loading up a notice says Setup Wizard not being able to respond...etc, etc. Also after booting my home, call, and search buttons don't work at all. not even for other roms. PLEASE HELP!
020211 So after following instructions from this post: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=11078749&postcount=4860 i was finally able to boot CM7 fully and without problems. If you're having problems with booting aosp's gingerbread rom just use this guy's instructions (at the bottom) and you should be good to go.
Make sure u install manually through clockworkmod mod first format boot system data and cache then install the rom let it boot then reboot and install gapps without wiping and reboot then you should be good I'm using the normal clockworkmod 2.5.2 and it works great
Sent from my HTC Hero CDMA using XDA App
okay thanks! ill try that and get back to you.
so no luck at booting. i'm still stuck at the HTC Boot screen.
i tried also and still no luck .. i hate this
to anybody having problems flashing GB, try these steps EXACTLY:
1) use clockwork 2.5.0.1 and follow the wipe/format process in the wiki
2) flash the rom then gapps
3) FLASH A CAPPED 691 KERNEL
This seems to be a continued issue, and I think it is because some phones can't handle high clock speeds like 768. The recovery currently posted by aosp (cwm 3.0.0.5) is overclocked and therefore will not boot, same with the kernel in the rom. Report back here if it works, I have already updated the wiki to advise people of this. Good Luck.
So i tried it again with the capped kernel and it still didn't work. also tried it without firerat's MOD but still a no go.
I'm upgrading aosp 2.3.2 rom from nightly build #188. Before flashing aosp rom plesae try to wipe everything like data, dalvik-cache, battery and rotate status. BTW, I'm using RA-Recovery not ClockworkMod.
i installed it after the standard wipes and thats it and its working just fine at 768 on my hero200. didnt have any issues and im loving the rom, but i am having one issue. this link is to my issue in q and a. if you can help feel free to hop on my thread and reply. other than that, i juast wanted to say this rom is great!

Well, I hate to say it but you must be missing a step somewhere. FYI in the OP for gingerbread the cwm3.0.0.5 is now capped at 691, so try that one again. Wipe both wipe options, go to mounts and format boot, system, data, cache, then gn into advanced wipe dalvik twice. Flash the rom, gapps, deca #43 capped 691 kernel, reboot. The first boot should take a while so be patient. Report back here if you can't get it, and I would recommend going into the live help room (aospbot IRC) which in the OP for GB. Good luck.
So still no luck. But I'm determined to somehow fix this no matter how many times I try!

I think you should back up your sd card and then format it in your pc. Then start all over. From the recovery on down. Skip any mods till you get booted up. Like keyboards and boot screens etc. And try the capped cwm recovery. Hope it helps good luck

Glad I could help man! Glad to see you got it worked out!
There's a readme in the Aosp 2.3.2 OP. It's right under the files, labeled README. I think it would help if anyone having trouble actually reads through this. skipping steps causes problems.
also, Factory reset skips over the /system partition. I recommend wiping /system partition if you're coming from another rom, or if you are decided to start fresh. You have to go into the partitions menu to actually format the /system partition.

This is true if you use CWM (which I do not ) but if you fastboot wipe all the partitions you will have no issues w/ RA as the OP discovered once he used the instructions that I posted.
touble with vvm
uh not quite sure if this is rite place to post this but looked better than the rest, so i got the rom running fine and it is wonderful improvement to my what use to be my wifes stock hero. Only problem is with the visual voice mail, i copied it from the stock hero before flashing, than after flashing copied it back, it works in the sense that i can see the voicemail in the app and even the voicemail to text works, but 2 things are wrong, 1 is i cant clear voicemail notification in the status bar without rebooting phone, and now she gets a text from a 9069 that tells her phone has recieved a voicemail, found a work around for the second one i blocked the number using blacklist so the text dont come thru nomore, but how i can i fix the fact that the only way to clear the voicemail notification is to reboot the phone? Any help, comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Or is there somewhere i can dl the latest sprint vvm app?? or are they device specific. Thank you in advance for any help

Every ROM I flash gets stuck on the flash screen. Thoughts?

I just bought a used Hero as a temporary phone and I'm trying to get off the stock rom. I rooted the phone and flashed a MIUI rom. It got stuck on the splash screen during boot. Not feeling like dealing with it, I just ended up RUUing it. Then I rerooted it and tried another rom...same deal. Now I back to stock again. Any thoughts on how to fix this?
Thanks
You didn't firate anything, did you?
Try manualy flashing the boot.img in the rom from fastboot. Sometimes thats the problem.

Good idea. I'd need abd for that though to run the commands right? I'm really trying hard to avoid installing it on my computer.
Why ?? If your going to be modding your phone s-off,eng-bootloader & adb are all tools you will definitely need. If not then you may have a few headaches down the line if something goes wrong.

I won't be doing anything beyond flashing a custom rom.
I just dug up my Hero. It had CM6 previously. I tried flashing an updated ROM and it does not get past the HTC logo. I tried 4 different ROMs. Using CMW recovery. Wipe/Format all...and nothing.
Yeah I'm completely out of ideas. I may just have to suck it up and install adb.
Which version of CWM are you running? I've used 2.5.0.1 for all of my ROMs and never had a problem. I should have the zip to flash through recovery and the HERCIMG flashable through HBOOT if you wanna try.

Adb is a breeze to install. Takes less than 20 min. Pm me if and when you wanna set it up, and believe me when I say you will not regret it. Adb makes modding your phone a little easier.

What radio do you have? I remember people having issues when using the older radio (.27) instead of the newer (.29). Then again, it might not make a difference at all either. Just a thought.
i second drunkpilots radio idea, thats what gave me a headache for an hour the other night wondering why my cm7 wouldnt boot, updated to newest sprint radio and bam booted right up
Alright I just upgraded my radio. What's the best/easiest way to root it from here since I'm back to stock now?

[Q] Optimus 2x p990 won't install pa_p990-2.6-08-newbl-tonyp.zip

Hi all,
Im usually pretty good with roms but i now realize i also can get ICS on which has opend a whole new world for me and suddenly i find myself in the noob seat yet again..
Im trying to install the newst Paranoid Andriod which i assume is this one:
pa_p990-2.6-08-newbl-tonyp.zip
I have downloaded the zip file as i do with all the other roms i have tried. I boot my phone into recovery and brows the SD card where i choose to install the rom. The installation start and after som time it pops me back into the recovery menu and nothing has happend.
I have tried to delete everything
I have troed with Miui version 4.3.2.8 and opti-trust 1.3A and those did the same..
Im suspecting that i missing something more deep with in the os. Maybe a kernal update or something? Maybe i have to update my andriod to ICS but i can't find out how to do that..
After allot of tried i finally managed to screw up my phone and had to recover back to a cyanogen mod i had stored on the SD card.
currently my phone is running with
Andriod-version: 2.3.7
Base band version: 1035.21_20120521
Kernal system: 2.6.32.55-Cyanogenmod [email protected]) )
Mod version is Cyanogenmod-7.2.0-p990
Version number is GWK74 (don't know if you need that)
can anyone point me in the right direction??
Sincerely
Offerlam
To start with, if you're using CM7.2, then you're on the old bootloader.
If you try to install new bootloader roms, the best that will happen is that they will not work.
Check which bootloader a rom is for before installing
Edit: You may have messed up your partition layout by flashing new bl roms. If this is the case and you are having issues, you will have to use the AIO tool from the development section to fix it.

Thank you for your answer but i need it to be dumped down ALOT more... like i know the technical term for a bootloader but what constitute a bootload on andriod? is this a bootloader P990_Stock-ICS-v28g-v3.01-standard.zip? I guess that must be ice cream sandwish? if so i tried to install it from the recovery prompt on the phone but that didn't work... perhaps i do have that patition issue you mentioned?
You have to download the old bl version of PA for your case
1. If you are unable to install/use any ROM properly after trying pa_newbl, it means that partitions have got messed up, and you need to:
Download AIO toolkit, install nvflash drivers in that, put internal_sd_fix from AIO thread and ROM zip file in SD card, then select option 4, and follow the process. Select old/gingerbread bootloader when asked, and cwm version of your choice. Then put a ROM flash int-sd_fix and the ROM in recovery.
2. If your partitions are ok (you are able to use cm7.2 properly), just wipe and flash pa-oldbl version (download link in same thread).

the recommended way is
wipe data
wipe cache
wipe dalvik
format system
flash ROM
flash Gapps (some prefer to reboot after this...I never do that)
flash the latest stable Kernel (usually Kowalski Kernel)
I am sure you can get past the start screen.....
Note: First time boot takes longer with this ROM....so stay normal
TRY to keep the battery more than 70%...so you can finish all this work without any power issue.
hope this helps my friend

and thanks for your steps... they really clarified allot for me..
I havne't gotten a answer on the bootloader thing. I was suggestet to keep running with my old bootloader but wouldn't everything not work better if i ran with the newst bootloader or does that not matter?
Is bootloader = Andriod version? say Ice cream sandwish is a bootload? can you say that?

[Q] Please help! Stuck in bootloop :(

Hey guys, could you please give me a hand? I'm really new so forgive me if I don't express myself correctly!
I was trying to instal CM12, and an error ocurred during instalation and it said "instalation aborted" or something like that. After that it only stays in CWM and I can't reboot. I've wiped cache and dalvik numerous times but it's always the same. I also did factory reset and nothing. I can't seem to load another ROM because the SD drive doesn't show up in my computer even though the phone is conected. What else can I try?
Please help me get out of this, I'm a little freaked out =/
Please? I'm clueless
I'm thinking I need to try to flash the stock ROM with Odin...but I can't enter download mode because as soon as I put the battery in, it reboots to recovery mode. Any ideas?
Thanks!!
if you did nandroid backup before flashing you should be able to flash that, you would be better off using twrp for flashing this rom
I didn't do nandroid backup, it wasn't a step in the guide (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2400123)
So I hope I'll be able to flash it anyway? I'm following these steps now: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2159660
I figured the problem was using CWM and not TWRP =/
ok, let us know how you get on. always follow instructions for each rom, and do backup just incase a problem arises. what rom were you using before trying to flash this one?. dont forget cm12 is based on lollipop which isnt really meant for our phone.
Thanks! I'm downloading a stock rom, but it's taking forever. Is it normal that it downloads at 40 kbps? It's taking like 4 hours this way =/ I suppose there is nothing faster except paying for a premium account? I also tried it from other sites but download speeds are terrible. My connection is not so bad...
Anyway, I had CM 11. Once I get ti back (fingers crossed) I figure I'll try CM 12 again, this time with TWRP.
Thanks for the help!
ok, go here....http://www.sammobile.com/....and d/l the latest firmware for your region & carrier, then flash using odin, dont flash a stock-based rom, this will take ur fone back to original, then root & flash custom rom......carefully....
It worked!! Finally!! Thanks a lot, I'll do it more carefully next time, but I'll be stuck with this stock ROM for a little while. One last question, how important was it that it wasn't the one for my country? I didn't find one and I flashed a Romanian one...phone is working fine though!
Yea should be fine, glad I could help, walk before run, take it easy... Enjoy the ride....

All rom's are multilanguage, only difference you can see in baseband. Sometimes on different contries basebad can work more stability than others. Thats all.
If you want experiment wtih install some custom rom use twrp from novafusion site. Its bringing to use with different filesystem and give to you simple and easy manager to get backup your data and get it back when something goes wrong. Remember, Do backup your Efs/imei, boot before flash something on external memory. If you loose without backup this data, you get tablet to tap on something without calling, mobile internet, wifi.
