Hey all. I am on FroyoMOD 2.7 and yesterday my phone stopped receiving SMS messages. I can send them fine, as my friends all tell me they can get my texts, but I receive no replies.
Now, of course I considered that I may just not be popular , but after I attempted to send SMS to myself, I confirmed that I do not receive them. I use Handcent SMS as my texting app. The send reports generated by my carrier indicate that the status of the message being received is pending.
Now, I wiped caches, reapplied FroyoMOD 2.7, reapplied Sileshn's Honeycomb theme, reapplied Telus baseband from AOR 3.3, and again wiped caches. Still stuck without receiving SMS. MMS works fine, as I can send picture messages to myself.
Any suggestions/ideas? I really, really need to you know, text! Being 16 has its drawbacks . Thanks in advance.

I have the same problem but the other way around! I can receive them but I can't send them, and it started while using froyo mod too (I'm not blaming froyo mod for this, as in the problem started a few days after using it) I was using go sms to manage my sms's and suddenly it started giving me the ol'message not sent notification, also my Milestone started to refuse to connect to the computer via usb, so I used those two problems as an excuse to switch to oh no! cm7 mod and those two problems were still there! the strangest thing is that my milestone charges just fine and I'm even able to connect to the PC via USB thru Androiani open recovery's option "force usb connection" or something like that so it seems not to be hardware related, weird! I have tried wiping EVERYTHING several times and still the same issue! I even went as far as to reflash got 2.2.1 again since it is the base rom over which others mods are applied it might have gotten corrupted or something, and then I reapplied Oh No cm7 mod, but no luck... simply weird. >(
After a quick call to TELUS support, it was determined that it is some kind of "known issue" within Milestones specifically. The troubleshooter told me to wait a few days while the error log was sent to network engineers. At this I began to panic, and worried about certain... software details being given to people of importance. Basically I wanted to keep my warranty . So I told the Rep I was running custom software and he laughed and told me just to wipe from AOR not from standard recovery. I had tried data wiping from stock recovery with no luck, but it worked with AOR. No idea why. I didn't think it would be any different. But there you go. That's the technology world I suppose. Hope that helps!

when you say "it worked" you mean that you wiped thru aor and the messaging issue got fixed, or that you got to do a full wipe thru AOR in order to keep your warranty?
Wiping data through AOR resolved my issue. It seems the rep I talked to was very sympathetic to modding. He seemed very knowledgeable anyways.

I am unable to receive MMS since I started using CM 4.0.4 a few weeks ago. I can send it without a problem. My friend sent me 10 MMS, I only received 2. Is there any reason for this or is it just a problem with the ROM? Neither the stock Messaging app is getting it or ChompSMS. I have tried it with auto-retrieve both on and off.

What are you saying?
Could be a network thing ... but to make sure send your self 2 mms and see if they come back .I think this resets something in your carrier's servers
just open your messaging app put your number in select a pic and send
Ive already tried that, I receive the message from myself. But anyone else, I dont receive or only receive every once in a while.
call up tmobile and have them check your settings on their end, don't tell them your running a custom rom ...
i would say just reflash since it was working and stopped, (off topic) my g1's accelerometer stopped working out of nowhere so i reflashed 4.0.4 and it worked like a charm. hope this does it for you
ill try reflashing then, I called up Tmobile, they just concluded it was my phone and wanted to send me a new one lol

A couple of CM updates ago, my G1 started having some issues on sending SMS texts. It's been been completely crazy ever since.
Sometimes messages don't get sent, other times they're sent with a huge delay and on the other side, my gf says she's receiving multiple repeated messages from me without it actually appearing on my messaging log.
In other words: she's receiving the same message I had sent the previous day over and over again.
Has anyone had this kind of problem as of late?
Any help is appreciated!
no one has had this problem besides myself?
Sounds extremely weird, and I don't think I've seen it anywhere. Try wiping messagin data and cache from Settings->Applications->Manage Applications. Other then that... call and complaint to your provider.

I get the exact same problems!!
Are you in UK too?
Chances are it's the network as opposed to the phone.
Otherwise, I'd try clearing the cache (listed above) and if that fails to rectify the issue, ask others in your area if they have similar issues.
Call up the provider, maybe they can re-register your APNs.

Not far from it. Portugal to be exact.

Problem is G1s aren't sold in Portugal. They never made it. However, I may have changed from my manually configured APN to a predefined one from the CM mod. maybe that's the problem.
Either way, I'll investigate the APN settings and clear the messaging cache and report my results back.
Hi Peeps,
For some strange reason my SGS has decided to stop sending sms. After hitting send the messages just get stuck on "sending"
I have checked the message centre number and the mms setting just in case. I have tried the sim in an old nokia and it texts just fine.
It was having intermittent issues with sms around a week ago, where it wouldnt send a message, so i would send the same one again and then both would send simultaneously. However now its not sending at all.
I am running Froyo.xwjp6 with kernel 2.6.32.9.
I have also tried instaling Handcent SMS but i just get the error "message not sent"
Thoughts on a postcard?
Same here, although trying handcent has allowed me to send, but strangely, will intermittently fail, im sure its a froyo bug.

I managed to fix it. Couldn't be bothered with trying to reflash the modem or even the os, so tried the Privacy-return to factory settings option just out of curiosity. Can't figure out what it did exactly but when it rebooted i had not lost any settings or applications, and all my home screen app shortcuts were still there. The only discernable difference was the lack of gadgets on the home screen, which I had to reinstall.
The important thing however is that messaging worked again. God knows why.
One susipicion I have is that this is due to my usage of Titanium Backup. I installed it when i was running Eclair, and each time i upgrade the OS i use it to restore my old system data and apps. Perhaps some change between Eclair and Froyo's messaging settings is being overwritten by and older version by Titanium. I suspect this as following the above factory restore I tried a Titanium restore and instantly it broke my messaging again. So I did the factory again and got them back. There wasn't really any need to use Titanium as I said before I didn't seem to lose any setting or apps, but did it anyway out due to that old cat's friend curiosity
Give it a go if u dare and see what happens
Let me know how u get on...
Ok so im still having the same problem.is there really noone out there with an idea?

Hi, I am a recently registered user but a longtime "lurker" on the Opal section of xda.
I've bought my girlfriend an opal, roughly a year ago, and in three months or so she started complaining about some issues of the phone:
- From time to time she cannot send me SMSs, she just keep receiving the "cannot send sms" error
When this happens, she usually:
- Cannot establish an outgoing call, and more important,
- She cannot even receive any incoming call despite the mobile being connected to the network, and free, so that the caller just get a "no answer" while she doesn't even have neither a missed call report nor any ringtone deployed.
- Receive incoming SMSs
I've already tried to solve the problem in various different ways, including(of course) looking for help in existing threads, flashing a new rom on the phone resetting more than once.
I'm just stuck on a dead point, as of now.
Do you have an idea on how to solve such issues?
The only "fix" we found was to activate airplane mode then deactivate it to restart the network connection.
I think it is something related to the radio part of the OS but i couldn't find different radios to flash on.
Thanks in advance!
Hi Paperboy,
your problem is contained into 2 possibilities:
Your Network Setting (the SMS provider number)
Your OS (most propable)
I guess the best remedy is to use the official ROM (WM 6.1 Professional). You may have used unstable ROMs that caused such a mess.
Unfortunately, I merely found the Arabic ROM (It can be changed to English from (Settings>> Multilanguage Support).
WM 6.1 Arabic ROM
Hope it helps somehow.
Actually, I think it's neither of two.
I checked more than once the provider settings, including the sms service center. Actually if it is not correct, she'd never be able to send messages, while the "hangs" are just...random.
On the os side, i think it's not a matter of roms, mainly because i flashed as a consequence of months of frustration with the original rom.
Any other ideas?
btw, thanks for your advice!

Hey there. I cant help but laugh, I had the exact same problem when i first got my phone and I used to think its a problem with the network but it isn't, if you haven't changed the stock OS/ROM, thats your issue, Flash an new ROM and it should resolve your problem.
(I recommend the pajerm RC3 ROM)
(Take care to backup all data, use outlook to backup all your contacts and stuff).
If that doesn't resolve your problem, post back. Best o' luck.

Okay this issue is rather different, What is certain is that the issue is not on the software side. Either your phone is konk or its the service, check the same SIM on a different phone, see if you face the same issue, if you do then its your network (which I know You said is unlikely, but no harm in making sure right?) If on the other hand, the phone works perfectly fine, then you have a problem with your phone's hardware in which case you need to get it check and probably serviced, worst case, get the handset replaced (if its under warranty).
Best o' luck
Try THIS ROM and report...Has a variety of apps as add on...Hope it works for you.
I'll give a try!
Thank you anyway!

Dont lock your phone with the default windows lock.....(use S2U2)
I know its strange but this helps, and do restart your phone every third day....
Issue Not Solved, but figured out
The HTC opal is sort of incompatible with certain carriers around the world, and this issue does not apply to all opals, only some of them have an issue. For example my phone has this issue with Airtel in my country. The phone seems to work fine with every other carrier. I think I might have to change my damn network again!
is it possible to turn off the thread view in opal??pls hlp
The problem started only a few days ago when my phone suddenly stopped receiving text messages. At the time, I was running Cyanogenmod 11 on my Sprint HTC One (M7). There were no errors of any sort; any time I would attempt to send a message, the phone would say that the message sent and that was the end of it. Also, any SMS messages that were sent to me would never reach me. The strange part is that I could send and receive phone calls, had data on the Sprint network, Bluetooth worked, WLAN worked, and GPS was working. Basically, everything but SMS would work.
My first guess was that my messaging program wasn't working. However, no matter what I used (I tried Hangouts, AOSP Messenger, and Textra to equal non-effect).
At that point I figured it was an obscure issue with my ROM of choice. I decided to roll back to a previous random Sense ROM that I knew had SMS working in the past. I used TWRP v2.8.0.2 to restore this old snapshot, and I had the same symptoms.
I tried a few different popular ROMs just to see what would happen. Everything worked great except SMS.
I figured that at this point, I should just roll it back to stock. Carefully following an RUU guide, I downloaded stock firmware and the corresponding RUU. Again, everything was in perfectly working order except for SMS messages.
I confirmed that my phone was not actually registering the sent texts by dialing ##UPDATE#. According to the output of the Self Service screen before and after sending some test texts, that number does not increment.
So I'm stumped. I can't figure out what's wrong with my phone, let alone fix it. I've even taken it to the Sprint store to check if there was some obscure account problem. After a restart, they were stumped, too (I was referred to a different store that I will have to visit over the weekend).
Any ideas what I can try next? Thanks in advance.
Have you tried to update profile (and PRL)? It's a shot in the dark, but worth a shot.

I just updated my phone to 4.06.651.9. On my phone, the ##UPDATE# entry causes it to attempt a "hands-free activation" which includes resetting the profile and PRL. In the previous version, this would not run and redirected me to the Self Service screen. After the update, it actually updated the profile/PRL successfully!
This time, when returning to the Self Service screen, I see that two test texts appear to have been sent! However, the people I sent them to have yet to see them (it's been about 5 minutes). A few more test texts have been sent my way, but as before, nothing is arriving.
Is there any way to test if the SMS messages from my phone are actually reaching a Sprint cell tower?
Second Edit: Updated to 5.03.651.3 I just received a text from Sprint (I decided to have them send a username). I have sent some more test texts, but so far nothing else is happening.

Although that should have worked, that's still not the latest RUU available. Try the first link from the OP here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2795856

Ah, yes. I tried that at first but the firmware simply would not flash. Instead, I went to an early version that did flash and then just upgraded from there. Same behavior, so I was convinced that this was a problem on Sprint's end (I assume that an antenna failure would also cripple phone calls?)
I went to the other store as suggested and they directed me to call tech support or drop $75 on a replacement phone. I called the number, I told them the problem and what I did to try and fix it. They flipped some switch and that was it. Took maybe five minutes.
