Hello.,
i just got my new xoom, and asking about the best voip phone that will work with a bluetooth headset on the xoom
gjoesco when
I'm looking for the same thing - none of the available seems to have a nice interface for the xoom's large screen. (and lots dosent even work at all)
Actually i dont really get it - android's had SIP (internet call'ing) since 2.3 or so - why did they remove it from honeycomb and even ice cream sandwich just because its a tablet?
Have anyone tried a Cyanogenmod 9 - and verified if its removed from their builds too?
Have you tried csipsimple or groove IP. I haven't attempted to use them with Bluetooth but they both work well for me and I know groove ip has some options for Bluetooth and tablet audio. Csipsimple is free and has a good selection of codecs.

I've tried csipsimple - not sure if its the xoom or my sip provider but i cant make any calls with it. (It does say Registered, and recieving calls works okay - but cant make any)
Grooveip - i thought it was only for google voice? is it posible to enter other sip server/user/pass?

Groove ip is for Google voice. I will try csipsimple again and test outgoing calls on my end. I have Sipgate.

A brief survey to sastisfy my own curiosity:
How often do you guys use these apps?
If so, do you find them functional?
Do you use Bluetooth Audio or stick it out with the speaker?
Do you use them on 3G, Wifi only, or even Edge?
For me qaulity is rubbish on both using wi-fi so I don't bother anymore
I agree, Skype sounded like poo over wi-fi, and fring doesn't even open on my phone anymore.
On HTC Herald, using Skype, the call quality was crap because first, I was with Tmobile and edge was too slow. I got the kasier tytn II, and switched to at&t. Skype call quailty was alittler better now with their 3g and wifi. But then I begain to learn about different radios frequencies and how they can significantly increase/improve your reception. My skype stutters very little and the call quality is very good over 3g.
I don't use it often (twice a week maybe) I mainly use it to save my (anytime) minutes during the day and it comes in handy with I want to make international phone calls. I may just upgrade to the $99/month (Unlimited calling) plan
But in a nutshell, I believe you can improve your Skype (or Fring) call quality by experimenting with different radios.
Bluetooth and skype? Something I don't recommend, but I prefer the wired head set with Skype.
Hope this helps
Looks like that fring was not prepared that WM 6.1 will appear. Everyone who has this version of WM is not able to use fring now. used to have fring over wife - quaility was fine. skype is heavy memmory eater so only tested it nothing else
I tried using 3G but the quality was crap.
Wifi works fine for me - I use Skype quite often at home.
I find that using the head set which came with my TyTN II offers far superior call quality than the speaker.

Did she Mind, your wife? And I'm not sure I totally understand your euphemism.
Just installed Skype on my Tilt. All went well, but it seems to only want to be on speakerphone. Also, my call to echo shows no microphone present. I looked for settings to change audio prefs and could not find any. Any suggestions?
I use Skype all the time for overseas calls on both my PC and Kaiser.
I am using Dutty's 6.1 Non Palmsms version and the call quality is fine.
Using Radio 1.64.08.21
So, can I use Skype to make outgoing calls to landlines and other non-skype cell phones? Can I use it to get incoming calls of the same nature?
I read somewhere that Skype and any/all other program will ONLY use the phone speaker. It seems that the only funtions that will use the ear speaker is the phone program. Unfortunately my spearkerphone on my ATT Tilt does not function well or at all. Apparently this seems to be a very common problem with the Tilt... I suppose I can still use Skype for text chatting.
Is this true? I was hoping I wouldn't have to sign up for any minutes with ATT if I had Skype

If you plug in the headset that came with your phone, Skype (Windows Mobile?) will use that instead. Call quality is much better for me using the headset.
I rebooted my router and got Skype to hear me. The quality is not so good with the speakerphone. Unfortunately the Tilt doesn't have a standard wired headset that I know of. I thought maybe the bluetooth headset might work, but it does not connect to Skype at all. It just invokes the voice command dialer...
^It doesn't? The Wing includes one!
I think there is a jack for a stereo headset but not sure which one is compatible... Will have to do some research.
On my kaiser, dutty's 6.1 ROM, fring works better than skype... call quality, connection timings, all are good.. maybe due to HSDPA..
I'm using Skype over HSDPA and WiFi and quite satisfy with it, voice clarity is good (using Sony 970 Bluetooth), good call handling, just don't try to use it over Edge

you need to get a headset that does both handsfree and headset profiles. I have the lubix stereo headphones and it works great both as wireless headphones and handsfree.
For the person thinking about just going with skype as voice, your limited to where you have good 3G connection.

Hi, I've been searching if there's any app for using an android phone as a headset when paired to a computer. That would be useful for using a phone when talking with Skype on a computer since Android's Skype doesn't allow IP calls.
Thanks!
This is something I would be very interested in as well. I always figured it would involve adding the device as a bluetooth audio device... but it has never worked out for me. I guess you need the bluetooth on the phone to know what it is supposed to do (maybe an app or something.)
I'll be keeping an eye on this thread.
Any news?

Any news on this? Is there any software available? I found only questions on this topic, but no solution on internet. I'm intereseted in using my android as bluetooth headset for my TV

Here's a superior solution:
ditch the inferior Skrap and use a proper SIP provider for VoIP. The application you are looking for to use this is SIPDROID.
I've tried and tried with my parrot car kit, but nothing seems to active the phone (either the button, or the keywords), has anyone had any luck?

Typical, I really wanted this. I still get the same pairing problems (paired but not connected). Then after repeating the same process up to about 10 times is pairs and connects. From then on it's fine for receiving calls. But initiating them just isn't working for me.
So on the kits that work, how does it work, does it use the voice search (ie the one requiring a data connection) or the old style voice dialler?
Does it give you any confirmation before calling, just in case it's picked up the wrong person?
Works okay for me with a no-name bluetooth headset. I press the "attention/answer" button on the headset, the screen pops over to the voice dialing screen with some instructions, and the headset says "Speak now." I say, "Call John Smith". The headset says "Calling John Smith" and the dialer pops up and dials. It does not ask for confirmation, unfortunately (Voice Commander under Windows Mobile says, "Calling John Smith?" and you have to respond "Yes" or "No"); I guess they assume you can hit the "end" button and try again if it got it wrong. (I haven't used it much, but it's two-for-two getting the callee right on the test calls I've made.) I didn't check whether it needed a data connection or not; sorry.

For my car kit it does ask for confirmation. I guess it depends, which car kit do you have that your having contectivity problems? Foryo is much improved for me in that regard.

I've got a Parrot CK3000 EVO. Worked fine in windows mobile, but in eclair and froyo I do get it to pair and connect after lots of attempts, just can't get the voice dialling working.
I've ordered an updating kit for the bluetooth set in the hopes that a newer firmware for it may help. I'll update this once I've got it.

I also have a parrot evo 3k and I'm interested to hear what you find out.
Is there a consolidated thread with compatibility or test results anywhere?
I have CM 6.0 RC1 running on my G1
My Plantronics 340 seemed to work great for voice dialing, but my car kit and other BT pieces don't.
I did get think outside BT keyboard and BT mouse working
I am running CM 6 RC1 on a Dream, with a Motorola H700 headset.
I got them to pair up without any problem, and it seems to be working without a data plan or wifi connection.
However, I noticed a couple of issues:
1) The "speak now" prompt is extremely quiet, even with volume levels maxed out on both the phone and the headset
2) It only works if the screen is "awake", meaning I still need to hit MENU on the phone in order for my command to be acknowleged (not very hands-free, is it? hopefully this is a bug in Froyo that will be soon repaired!). This is a bad thing for me, 'cuz here in Quebec, you can get a ticket for inappropriate touching of a cellphone while driving.
3) If it thinks it has the right phone number, it says "calling {whoever}", and then proceeds to dial without further warning, which is dangerous since when it speaks the "calling" notification, that too is very low volume
Is this just my configuration? Perhaps a limitation of the Dream hardware? Perhaps (this is me dreaming in technicolor) a simple software setting that needs changing?
I noticed the P6810 has a mic and speaker like a phone does. Anyone know a way to make phone call with it over wi-fi for free? I guess what I am asking is if anyone knows a VOIP app that is free and does not charge for minutes...

Haven't tried Skype?
The new update from Skype yesterday did wonders for this device IMO. It doesn't have the best front camera but again, it worked very well and there weren't any issues during the call.
viber is very good
After playing around, I settled on Google Voice with Groove IP. Flawless, free phone calls over Wi-Fi.
The best one is talkatone!
$7 to remove ads then $20 a year....
What fearures does it have over grooveip?

I am using Groove IP Lite (free one from the Play Store) with Google Voice. It works beautifully, you can use the ear piece speaker in portrait mode or change the speaker to the stereo speakers near the 30 pin charging port. So you can use it like a regular cell phone or a speaker phone. You must get a Google Voice number to make and receive calls otherwise Google Voice will use a generic number to make outgoing calls but you cannot receive calls without getting a Google Voice number. Make sure your Google Voice Settings under Phone are forwarded to Google Chat to be able to receive incoming calls.
This makes the 6810 (WiFi only) work like cell phone as long as you have a WiFi connection, and it's FREE for calls in the U.S.

Anybody try using Csipsimple with a bluetooth headset on the Moto X Kitkat Stock rom?
I tried it, and it started causing my handset speakers to crackle and emit some sort of digital noise. Csipsimple force closed.
When I tried it without the bluetooth headset connected, it force closed.
Even after I closed the app the phone would crackle randomly. So I rebooted it.
It was strange - I've had no problems using CsipSimple with my Galaxy. I've never seen these types of problems before.

I have ATT's XT1058 and use Csipsimple with bluetooth occasionally. I have motorola's H17 headset and I didn't experience any issues. As you may know the Csipsimple bluetooth auto switch is in experimental phase and I haven't tried it yet. When i call I switch the call to bluetuoth manually. My advice is try with different headset and check your Csipsimple settings. find out which codecs are supported from your voip provider. According to my experience Csipsimple works well with aLaw and uLaw and maybe with G.729 (which must be bought separatelly).
Other cedecs are more or less useless and i don't use themat all. I also don't use different codecs for WIFI and mobile because it is pointless (you can't find special more adapted codecs for mobile). Therefore I have only aLaw and uLaw enabled and aLaw set as primary in Europe, the ulaw in America.
I don't use STUN (there is no need to use it and it cause additional lag) or any other functionallity which I don't understand precisely and I'm not sure what is its purpose.
Check your settings and replace the bluetooth, maybe install Csipsimple once again. I hope that you'll solve your problem.
Thanks, it's good to know other users aren't experiencing the same problems. I'll take a closer look at the settings. I did transfer my settings over from my Samsung using the built in json file backup so I wonder if that flow isn't working so well
