Crashed schools server - Off-topic

And now I'm stuck on crappy signal instead of nice wifi wich I finally got the password to after bringing a lap top here...so anyone else ever crash school servers?

Not really crash... but here goes:
Back when I was in Middle School, probably in 7th grade we had the mandatory Tech-Ed class that we had to take. We had our gimpy school Gateway laptops out and were using some type of CAD program. The teacher was this old guy who didn't really pay any attention to anything so we could get away with a lot.
Anyways, the teacher was doing something over the projector and I was in the back of the class not doing what I was supposed to be doing... I had the command prompt open and decided to fool around with the "net" command. Trying to create admin users and so forth. Then I got to the "net send" command. Decided it would be funny to send a message to the class room. "net send * yo fool" Being in the back of the class I saw a little message pop up on every computer simultaneously. So I send 2 more.... one of them with my name. The teacher saw my name then came back and asked if it was me.... in surprisingly quick thinking I go, "Why would I type my name in it? Wouldn't that be kinda dumb?" He agreed and then continued doing whatever he was doing...
10 minutes later some lady walks into the class and goes, "Who has computer number 11."
crap.
Ends up the messenger service was active on every single computer.... and I mean ever single computer. My messages propagated to every single computer in all three elementary schools, the middle school, the high school, the administration building, and the superintendents office.
The principal said people were calling complaining about crashed computers... I tell her all you had to do was click "Okay" three times. She tells me to go back to class and that she'll call me back up when she speaks to the superintendent. I never got called up!

Pull the BIOS/CMOS battery

And the plug too ?
That's something difficult to do in front of public...
What I did twice was to boot from a Linux live usb. Yeah, admin privileges the easiest way !

I knew that as an option. But I was hoping for a better alternative because it'd be awfully suspicious and difficult to take apart my school computer.

Haha Linux FTW! Although sometimes the BIOS will prevent you from booting off anything but the HDD.
Yeah; I've never used a BIOS pw cracker but I'm sure they're out there.

Some BIOS's have back door passwords... just do a Google search; I don't want to link to anything.
You might be able to try something called Wubi that allows you to install Linux from Windows... I'm not sure if you need Admin rights to do so.

In HS I ran Ubuntu from a live CD, everything worked.
In HS I had the admin passwords to all the computers, and took out ram in library PCs when no one was looking. lol. Also one of the select few to have the HIDDEN WiFi info.

Funny, I'd think it was the people that live around me. They'd rob me in a heartbeat if we didn't have 4 dogs.

Android Browser Emulator Question

Is it possible with any program to simulate the internet web browser from Android on my computer?
Basically what I am trying to do is this:
I want to view web pages as I would from my android phone, but I want to do that on my computer using a virtual device, I guess. Does anyone wnt to explain what I need to do to make this happen? I am trying to develop some mobile sites and I want to be able to see how they look on the phone, from my computer instead of having to actually do it on my physical device.
Yes you can, with the android emulator.
I'd be happy to help you set it up but I have to wonder why you dont just use your phone.
Are you wanting to view your mobile website BEFORE you apply the changes to it?
What I can help you with is setting up an emulator that will actually browse the web from within your computer, really cool but might not be what you're going for...

My phone is across the room on the charger right now, running wireless tether because I get more speed thru that than pdanet, which is turning out to be a waste of the 25 i spent on it.
What's your gtalk or ICQ neb? Wait, I already have you on ther,e hit me up!

Wrong place mostly. The majority here doesn't like Apple to begin with, and we tinkerers don't like the idea of having an overpriced piece of tech. For the same price, you could have gotten a much better spec'd Windows kit. And if you are going desktop, by building your own rig, you could have built something that'll blow the Mac completely out of the world and still have change to bring your girl out for a date

CSB time.
My bud's GF is called Mac. So the first time I saw her (she was kinda cute) I decided to have a dig at her.
I just told her that I hate Mac with a vengeance and I will stay loyal with XP (my girlfriend's initials). My buddy laughed and she was stunned for a few seconds, and we had to explain the joke to her. Twice.
Later on, we were sitting beside each other and I made a fuss out of distancing with her, saying I'm allergic to Apple products.
And yeah, she smacked my arm after that.

Actually, I didn't have to flash that far back. It happened over the weekend. Needless to say, I mess around with people so often that I got infamous for it. It's a great icebreaker too, since it weeds out the cool people with the not-so-cool people.
Why on earth are you asking such a question here?! Folks here are fandroids! Ask another place.
But if you want one, buy it. You'll get top of the line hardware (and not thin crappy plastic fantastic ****) and you'll get a stable OS that's not crying about viruses everytime you're downloading Girls Gone Wild Vol. 86.

To whit, I submit the following questions to the OP and to Mr. BazookaAce:
What is the purpose of such a machine? Are you genuinely using it for the software suites that only Mac can handle? Or you're simply trying to impress the chicks that will never notice you otherwise?
If you answered "Yes" to the last two questions, you might need a Mac. Otherwise, move along. There is genuinely better laptops for a better price.

I use an hp dv7 as my main computer. First laptop. Now that I have it, I see the use of a portable laptop. I want an air because it is extremely portable. Fully operational computer. Spec something out that compares to it. You whine and cry about overpriced pos. Yes the desktops are. But put up or shut up. Spec a windows unit out that compares. Apple got it right with the air, and it's the only mac I would buy.
And to the op, only tip would be spend an extra bill to get 4gb of ram. Otherwise leave it as is if you have other computers to work from. It's a good ultra portable as is, just that bump in ram will boost performance to do all you need as a second portable device. Go for it.

I game too much, so my opinion is completely and truly biased.
Go ahead with your purchase, with the knowledge that a stoopid Dell XPS 14 can beat the shark out of a MacBook Air 13" for about 30% off. And I'm talking better processor, GPU and RAM. And you can buy a nice SSD for the price difference, and keep your old HDD in an external enclosure. And still have change for the spare battery.
Like I said, if you genuinely need something that Mac has to offer (like multimedia stuff), a Mac is good. But for any other reasons, a PC will serve you better. In fact, I have recommended Macs to two of my friends; a budding photographer and a musician. They loved it for what it can do that Windows couldn't
So my question still stands; do you NEED a Mac? Or do you buy it because you're an Apple tool?
First thing is recommend.... Wait until about July when the refresh comes out, it'll most likely have a sandybrige CPU meaning better performance and battery life, although they will probably remove the dedicated graphics card and use the onboard Intel 3000HD thing I have a macbook air from 2008 btw..

They are great little laptops, we had two at work.
This may be a problem that has been resolved now, but both had problems with the display hinge breaking. Apple repaired both of them without any problem, even though one was out of warranty.
I eventually got fed up with the small screen and got a 15 inch 'Pro'.

First of all, i'm not 12 years old. I'm not a gamer. Second, i don't care about the price. Some buys a Mercedes or BMW, and some nerds will buy a Kia, put 800 HK in it, and call it gods work. No, it's still a piece of **** that will crash and burn more often then Mr Sheen.
People like nice things, and people like stability. Not everyone likes a Alienware box that will melt within 3 minutes of use.
But it doesn't matter what i say, since you're most likely a 13 year old chick with cheetos on your pubs, and needs to grow a pair.

I think it is time for big dady Microsoft to give something back.

HD2 is the best phone in the World at the moment.
No it does not have the best 15154 billion collor screen.
No it does not have 6 cores CPU.
No it does not have 1080p recording or 12MP camera.
No it does not have al sorts of prety much "paper only" functions.
What it does have is a soul, inspired by great programmers, developers, a lot of sleepless nights, and a lot of sweat.
What does that mean? Well, HD2 users pretty much kept WINDOWS MOBILE a live. Development, upgrading, enabling it run android, etc. What did we get back? Void warranties, bricked phones, etc. No, nobody from Microsoft said: Hey guys, that is pretty darn cool, keep it up, we are learning from you. No, they said: Well, srew that, we are going to give all our attention to ours younger son, WINDOWS PHONE 7.
Ok, that is just fine, you did few phones based on WP7, good for you. Well guess what, we run it better, smoother, on a bigger screen, hell, even if we get sick of it we just do restart and BAM WE ARE IN ANDROID 2.3.5!
We don't need much from Mirosoft now, we can handle almost anything, HEY MICROSOFT WE RUN MANGO, we can update via Zune!!!
Only one thing really annoys me: Dear Microsoft, do we really ned to cheat your support agents to give us activation keys to use live services and market places?
For Gods sake! We are your children, we use Windows on phone, at home, we said no to apple (Adam and Eve couldn't do that) Do you really need to treat us like this?
Please all users, make online petitions, facebook groups, send mails. We need to get this.
You don't need to cheat..you can chat and get an id. They are not asking you anything about your phone . They just want name, contact no., and email id

+11111 just for saying that.
Gosh! That's my new phrase! Love it!

How would you handle this awkward situation?

Well I have my setup at my parents house so that I can remotely access their computer at any time (VNC client). They aren't the most tech savvy so it's a benefit to me so I can "fix" any problems or do general maintenance on the machine. Well this is the second time this week I randomly go to log on and notice firefox minimized with two active windows for porn sites...
Awkward much? My parents are happily married over 30 years but my dad's retired so he's home during the day while my mother is working.
I just politely covered his paper trail these two times (close it and delete cookies/browsing history/etc.).
Would you say something to your dad or just play dumb??? I'm not suspicious of anything bad but it just seemed really weird to stumble on.
It's just awkward for you really, isn't it. I've stumbled upon various things whilst fixing other people's PCs, or once when wiping down a PC for a deceased friend's family. My opinion is to just act as if you never saw it. I just don't see the point in the embarrassment for either party. That's my opinion anyway.
The way you handle this is closely related to the kind of relationship you have with your father. If it was my father, after laughing a lot I would even call him and recommend him the best porn sites across the web
But if the relation is more "serious" you should just ignore what happened. I donĀ“t think that is something you should worry about.
I'd ignore it if I were you. It will feel more awkward when he knows that you know.

Fairly basic maths really. 'How to unblock...' is a subset of what Google can do, therefore Google does indeed equal more than just that
Just don't bother.
That you have come to XDA to ask suggests you don't have the skills to hack the work web filter, it may be an ASA with a CSC module or similar.

To be brutally honest with you dude;-
You are at WORK. They are paying you to work, not to fu*k around with your phone. I used to have a colleague who played around with his phone at work while the rest of us actually did his job - he didn't last for long.
Keep your work at work and play with your toys in your own time, rather than trying to get one over on your employer
Don't make me call your boss.....

Did you even bother to actually read to OP and the thread, or did you just read a couple of words and decided to post this pointless answer?
If the OP's company blocks hosting sites, TOR installers etc then I don't think simply trying to use https will acheive anything - do you?
ever try underget.com? I worked for me for a few weeks, until one day I tried it, and was blocked.
I was in a similar situation. I feel if my job is done, I should be able to relax *a little*.
I know employers will never agree, and that we should be helping others who cant finish their jobs, or go clean the office, etc..
You can always upgrade your mobile data plan, and download from your phone/device. Is there a free (unblocked)wifi in the area you could utilize?
happy hacking... I can relate. I used to have a virtual machine running ubuntu, building kernels in my free time.
If you change your OP to: how to get to blocked sites so I can develop Sooper Awesome Kernel and Rom for Device XYZ, I some people would have been more inclined to help...
part of me says, yeah i should be "working", the other half says do what I feel, and I end up usually browsing the web.. and laughing my butt off to the off topic images thread... lol
Find more work to get on with, be more productive than your colleagues, get promoted, win!
Or
Get caught in breach of company IT policy, attend disciplinary meeting, get sacked, fail

That only works if the web filter is crap and the website is also running on port 443 which most don't.
OP now I'm with you, I used to work 12 hour shifts in IT at night and weekends, we used the office modem to play online games etc, and also watch DVDs.
You could talk nicely to your IT guys and see if they can make an exception for you.
Use your phone as a USB modem and download via that. If your company has blocked access to certain sites then you're risking getting sacked if you find a way to access them. Respect your company's wishes and stop trying to stumble your way around their security.
