Help installing CM7 - Nexus One Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I am trying to install CM7, the stable (bbq) version, on my gfs n1. I downloaded the zip, did a nandroid backup just in case, applied zip and rebooted. It opened to the CM7 load screen and i thought everything was working. Waited on that blasted screen for 45 mins and nothing happened. Did a battery pull and restored from the backup and everything is working how it used to. I am trying to figure out why the CM7 install didnt work.
I think it is because of the radio. She is coming from 2.1, an old CM rom. I am not sure which one. I didnt update any radio before i flashed the rom. I didnt know which radio to flash. The newest radio is a Korean radio. Should i flash that before i do CM7 flash. Any advice would be great. Thank you.

yes, you should have the newest radio, korean radio is ok for usa use.

alright, ill flash radio, then flash rom, then reboot. Ill let you know if i blow anything up. Thank you =)

Did you wipe everything?

i would do a full wipe ...yes

Did you flash gapps file also?
Full wipe should include system partition also.
FYI radio 5.08 is what come with 2.3.x ota. Radio 5.12 should work no problems.

Radio update help..

...It's pretty much been over half a year since I needed to root my phone again, but I just received a brand new one from tmob.
SO. I did the root deal, that went super smooth, I have JF1.51 CRB43 ADP to start with.
NOW, I am trying to update the radio, and it does not seem to be working. From what I remember and what I've read, all you do is flash it like you would any rom, rename to update.zip and recov alt+s, right? Well, when I check the radio version it still says the original, not what I flashed. So I re-downloaded and tried again, no luck.
....feel like a real idiot here haha, never had it not work before. Tried searching but I had no luck finding the solution. By all means if you have a link and this was a pointless post just tell me, else I just need some help!
which recovery image do you have installed

If your using Cyanogen's recovery, try to physically press the alt-s, and home + back to reboot
I believe it works like that for flashing the IPL (radio) and SPL
where did you get the radio from?
Sorry I left out the recov info, I know my signature is misleading...didn't change it yet..!
I'm using JF 1.43 recov, I remember that (not sure if it was ever fixed, all I know is that flashing the SPL with CM recov caused 'error at line ___' when flashing new roms) that you cannot flash the new SPL with cyanogen recovery, so I'm using JF's until I get the radio and spl flashed correctly.
I got the radio from where I usually have in the past, as well as the new SPL
http://sapphire-port-dream.googlecode.com/files/
(Of course I will not flash the latest SPL until the newest radio is flashed first!)
I just want my happy CM 3.9.7 back..! With the ability to flash the new hero roms when I get curious..
****I am now attempting to flash the radio with cm recov 1.4, will update on this if it works.
****no luck with cm either, didn't think it would make a difference but thought I would give it a shot. I still have 1.22.12.29 for my radio :/ agh!
So...Still can't update the radio for whatever reason, just does not take, and I still can't find anything in the forums about this either... :/ Anyone have any ideas at all?
get the radio from the htc website maybe you got a bad download. i have flashed radio and new spl with cyanogens recovery so i know it will do it. after flashing the radio press home and back to reboot. do not reboot from the recovery console because i have noticed that it will not write the image.

Thanks for the link ^-^ I will give it a shot. Good to her that the CM recov flashes the new SPL alright now..! I will post results...every time I flash it goes through the motions of writing the radio but just never shows that I have the new one..super frustrating.
** I also notice that whenever I have tried to flash the radio on the new phone, when I reboot it goes through the appropriate motions, yes, however it puts me back into recovery every time. I wonder if I should just completely start over (unroot, re-root) hope thats not the case..I just got it all set back up again :/
Nope, no matter where I download from and how many times I flash with different recoveries.. I still have the original radio 1.22.12.29 :/
This has always been so easy! I've never had issues with rooting, then updating the radio, then updating to the new SPL.. :/

If you can, try rerooting, it will only be a few more steps.

Yeah, I was hoping to not have to but I will in a bit here if I still can't figure it out. I have root just fine, running CM 3.9.9.1 even, which I usually only run his roms, however I do like to try the Hero roms as well as they come out..
bummer :/

I don't know why its not updating your radio, but everything else works fine. You should update the radio before updating to cupcake builds. maybe that will help?
gave up for a while, finally re-rooted
Re-rooted and still cannot update my radio, I have tried updating it after the very first rooting steps, after updating to JF RC33 as well, I still can't get the latest radio to get onto my phone. I have tried with JF recovery, CM recovery, as well as the original recovery image, and nothing. Notta. Zip. No idea why my phone simply will not take the new radio image.. I have re-downloaded it a million times as well, going in circles..don't get why the phone will let me root, unroot, all that jazz, and simply will not let me update the radio... driving me nuts!! I can use CM roms just fine of course but any other roms I am stuck with not trying cause of this annoyance!! Anything anyone can recommend would be great
o man still can't get it to work?
try flashing the official 1.5 OTA update, which contains the updated radio. see if it gives you an error message. if it does, take it to tmobile and tell them to replace your phone.
if it flashes...see if it updated your radio. if it did, you can use the one click root to root your phone
Thanks again buddy, I will try it out ^^
So, I unrooted, and applied the OTA updates from 29 to 30, 30 to 33, 33 to cupcake..and I still don't have the latest radio, still at 1.22.12.29. I got the ota cupcake here:
https://android.clients.google.com/updates/partner/signed-kila-ota-150275.53dde318.zip
i'm going to try flashing the ota radio update without root if it will let me..grr..this is so weird, there is no reason why it shouldn't take a simple radio update..hrm
***attempted the ota radio update, guess you can't without root which is what I figured, but frick, this makes no sense.. >>
so, this is a bit odd, at http://developer.htc.com/adp.html, one of the spots to DL the latest radio, when you hover over the radio link for 1.5 and 1.6, it says "ota-radio-1_22_14_11.zip" rather than "ota-radio-2_22_19_26I.zip", weird, eh? Wonder if it's simply not the right radio, and labeled wrong, I have no idea, but this is getting super old.
I'm actually having the same problem, can't seem to update the radio with the radio image the htc site provides. It's still stuck at 1.22.12.29
Anyone had this before? Any help would be appreciated
I can't get around it, and it's really frustrating, since the only rom I can use is a CM build..aside from a couple others, but CM is the best as far as universal SPL use goes..
So what I've tried so far:
- Updated to HardSPL
- Tried multiple Radio updates, new ones, old ones, even some from the forums.
- Tried a few complete updates that include the radio image
- Tried flashing directly from fastboot, not sure what partition I need to flash though, the radio partition gives me an error that it does not exist.
Still no go. The weird thing is that I come from a stock 1.5 installation updated from 1.0 via t-mobile. And I'm still at the original 1.0 radio image.

Market Disappeared [FIXED]

Oye this isn't good, after some flashing and backups, my Market Application actually disappeared on my phone and it says it is not installed. I am not sure how to get it back as I already used 2 of my previous Backups. Hope someone has a clue.

did you flash the htc recovery image before you flashed cyanogen?
Yes I did, I had Market, I did a specific market dalvik-cache wipe from Cyanogen's troubleshoot page on his wiki. I guess my phone didn't register that until I did a backup (w. ext) and now it disappeared.
I had this same exact issue with my gmail apk it was gone ! I update cyan rom but when I updg I notice gmail apk went missing I asked help all said wipe and flash again I had no success tried pretty much everything I even used dreaimg got it back and update back to cyan rom latest at the time. And still had no hope so I switch roms went to dwangs then from there superD and all was back to normal
I fixed it with a wipe, flash the defanged base, then newest cyan ROM. Problem solved =]

Success!!!

Questions about Froyo

I just want to verify a few things I've been reading about
My phone is rooted.
1. The current releases of Froyo are off the pre-release that was leaked, correct?
2.Hence it wont have all the features?
3. To upgrade to a froyo release i would have to wipe, update radio and then flash the update?
4. If i want to go back to say cyanogen 5.0.7, do i have to wipe, revert back to previous version of radio, and flash cyanogen?
---or is flashing back to previous radio not necessary?
5. If i made a nandroid backup of my current cyanogen installation, and I try out froyo, but then decide to restore the backup, do i need to flash cyanogen first before i do so?
Thanks in advance!
1. Correct.
2. I don't know. It appears to have all the features that were promised on the I/O.
3. No need to wipe, but it's somewhat recommended. Radio is included within the update.zip if you download the correct zip of course.
4. Don't know about the specifics, but you don't need to reverse the radio. If you don't, then video recording won't work, and SD mounting might get buggy. You could always switch to CM 5.0.8 test3. It requires the new radio.
5. Nandroid does a backup of everything, except the radio.

So in order for video and mounting to not be buggy to work with 5.0.7 i would need to flash back the radio, correct?
And for the nandroid, i just restore and no need for wiping or flashing?
You would need to flash the previous radio back, yes.
If you do a nandroid backup, then flash the froyo with the new radio, you will have to flash the old radio before you do a backup restore, if you want everything back the way it was. If you just want to test Froyo, do a nandroid backup and then flash the version without the new radio. Everything, except video recording (and buggy SD unmounting), works.
And yes, no need to wipe nor flash on a nandroid restore.

Rather have everything working to get the full experience, i dont mind doing an extra re-flashing step
Thanks for all the help!
P.S. Any recommended froyo builds?
There's only really one right now: the stock one. All others are just apps added to the stock one. Real builds will follow after Google releases the source of the Froyo.
Until then: http://android.modaco.com/content/g...ed-update-zip-no-radio-option-online-kitchen/

Any specific steps?

Okay... I bought a gently used N1 and the previous owner has it Rooted and flashed to FroYo... I am wanting to try out CM5.0.8t5, but I can't find any directions for going from 2.2 back to CM.
What are the steps I need to switch over? Thanks in advance!
just flash it man - maybe change the radio to the old one.
Damnit... I thought I was posting in Q&A... that's what I get for having too many windows open at the same time. Thanks for moving it.
wipe, flash CM, flash GAPPS....... Froyo radio works on CM5.0.6Test now
So... next question... does Adobe Flash 10.1 work on CM?
No the flash does not work on CM 5.0.8 t5. Since the new CM uses the foryo radio just download the the rom. wipe everything and flash away.

[Q] moving from froyomod to cm7, everything is deleted?

will i lose all settings, files, apps?
is there a way to keep everything and change rom?
I would say it is good practice to do full wipe when switching to different ROM generation.
Once you are on CM7 upgrading to never version is OK with just caches cleanup.
In your case I would use TitaniumBackup or any similar app to backup all the apps. In theory you could try to restore the app data but may not work properly. Use as much as possible backup/recovery build in the apps.
BTW consider app2ext - I do not known if such a feature is available in FM - search the forum how to create separated partition on your SD card
well i gave it a try.
updated OR, did all 3 wipes, installed the latest CM7 and rebooted.
i just got the M sign no matter what i did.
had to nandroid back to my latest backup.
never had that in any froyo mod.
is it hopeless?
should i try again?
When you wipe, go into the partitions menu and format boot and system too.
Sent from my Droid using XDA App
how exactly?
didn't find it in the OR menus.
Don't do that!
There's no data of /boot in CM7 packages!
Switching from Stock 2.2.1 to CM7 worked flawlessly for me back then.
Try downloading the CM7 .zip again, apply it and do all 3 wipes afterwards.
tried again, like you said.
didnt work. back to froyo.
bummer.
ok, tried the HO NO mod of this rom and its working!
looking great. thanks for your help.
this HO NO is a version of the original CM7. meaning if there are future updates to the original CM7 i will be able to update, correct?
i wont have to necessarily wait for a "HO NO" version?
It's not that easy.
HO!NO! is a CM7 mod - that's right.
But if you mix updates from both HO!NO! and CM7 you will very likely end up with the M-screen or bootloops again.
Usually it's like this:
Update the ROM you're on: flash zip, wipe caches
Change to a different ROM: flash zip, wipe everything
