I got the wifi Tab earlier this month. I initially tried to set it up to sync with Kies, couldn't get it to work and gave up trying to fix the error I got. I honestly spent all of about 5 minutes trying to fix it before giving up and uninstalling the program. I've been syncing media wirelessly ever since. Are there features of Kies that I'm missing out on though? Should I spend the time trying to figure out why it won't sync with my Tab or is it not even worth my time? What does Kies offer exactly? I couldn't get the program to work so I honestly don't know.
Apart from synchronizing data with your phone (which I don't do since I'm already using other applications for that purpose), the one main reason to use Kies is to receive all the latest official Samsung-ROMs upon release and being able to have your tab serviced for free should flashing fail.
So in my opinion you are not missing anything (someone here once wrote that you're not really using your phone unless you have voided the warranty).
The only reason I still have Kies installes is that the drivers installed with Kies are required for flashing with Odin.
So much for my opinion. Maybe someone else will tell you differently.
Contacts and calendar are already being synced with Gmail. Music is synced wirelessly via Doubletwist. Files are transferred wirelessly via Awesome Drop. What other stuff could I possibly need to sync?

Probably nothing. Apps and SMS are backed up, not synced. Besides Kies doesn't do it anyway.
I just fired up Kies to see what is synced:
1) Contacts (with Outlook)
2) Calendar (with Outlook)
3) Memos (with Outlook)
4) Music
5) Pictures (automatic resolution may be optimized for phone)
6) Videos (automatic conversion to supported formats possible)
7) Podcasts
You may also import/export these.
Since you have all these covered already, you really miss nothing by not using Kies.
The last remaining reason for using Kies and not just keeping it installed is being able to officially flash your phone with new firmware without forfeiting the warranty. If you would like to flash any custom ROM you want, then there really is no reason to use Kies.
Otherwise you may want to see whether you can make it run.
In any case you will need Kies for flashing with Odin, so you may want to reinstall it, if you are planning to flash new ROMs.

can someone please help? i recently bought a used tilt ii (HTC 8925) and have had several recurring problems since.
1) for some reason the phone seems to delete/lose my contacts. initially i manually entered contacts until i discovered active sync. after it lost those contacts the first time i copied contacts from my outlook phonebook (over 200) on my laptop. within a few days it lost those as well.
i figured this might have happened (somehow) after unsuccessfully attempting to delete some apps (mainly some games which i don't like); install new apps ( an RPN calc & updated version of S2U2) modifying existing layout using the Chome editor app.
so after the third time of losing contacts & reinstalling using active sync from outlook, i decided NOT to install/delete or change any apps. last nite i modified some contacts assigning several to different categories. woke up this morning & voila! all contacts are lost except for 6.. WTF???
what is causing this phone to lose contacts like this??
2) i have set pass word lock on my phone seems to work fine for a few days then suddenly it no longer recognizes my password. That is my situation now. & again it has happened before. i think i ended up powering down phone, removing sim card for a several minutes then rebooting.
what is causing this?
3) lastly my active sync program often does not work. it will not recognize my phone. & then when i make changes to get it to recognize the phone ( deleting the device & then adding it back), it won't recognize the settings for my outloook server. what is going wrong with this that i have to keep redoing this after so many days?
4) how do i do a system restore on this phone. i have searched for this as well with little luck on HOW to actually do this on the phone.
i hope these issues & questions make sense. lawd knows i sure can't make sense of what is going on with this phone. & yes i have searched on the forums for these issues & can't find full answers to the problems i have collectively.
my phone has WM 6.5 professional, ROM version: TPC_V11 Mega WWE; radio version 1.70.19.09, HTC touchflo (which i don't use);
Thanks,
kahlil
Ready the sticky/tutorial at the beginning of the forum - the instructions to flash original shipped ROM are in there. You have the same ROM I do.. it works great!
thanks beatlefan i will check there again. that was the first place i looked when i got the phone, but don't recall seeing solutions to the problems i'm getting now. maybe i overlooked?

It sounds like something going on with the way you have ActiveSync configured. Make sure you have enabled the calendar and contact update box when you set it up. You also might try running the sync a couple of times.
I Might be wrong but since you have a custom rom you might want to try flashing a stock rom and then reflashing the same custom rom, cuz sometimes it fixes strange issues like these. Hope that helps.

Hi
I want to sync with Outlook Calendar (only) on Work Pc which has no direct internet connection and has several restrictions, such as, blocking USB devices which appear as memory drive or modems.
I was not able to install Samsung Kies because of lack of internet connection which is required for normal installation. I understand that there are several apps which cost about 20-30$. And there is Android-sync that I tried but it is in pre-alpha stage and because of that, it messed my contacts.
I'm looking for free solution of this problem. Does anyone has samething to offer me? Or is there anyway to install Kies without internet connection?
Any help will be most appreciated.
BRG,
Crayzee
Look at the Kies 2 thread. If you are allowed then download it and install or have it installed on your work computer. It will do what you require.
Check out MyPhoneExplorer. Beats Kies easily in Outlook sync.

First of all, thanks for your replies.
I checked both of the apps: surprisingly for me, myphonexlorer worked with android and worked very well. The only downside (so far) is that it took several times until the calendar was synced perfectly.
From other side, kies 2 still requires internet connection

I have Samsung Captivate with stock firmware, not rooted. I did upgrade when I noticed newer version of android was available, since then phone has been acting up. Battary consumption has gone up, I used to charge every other day, now I am forced to charge it every day.
Major problem I am noticing is active synch is broken. I had established connection with my work account long time before upgrade and it was working great. After upgrade, I can no longer connect to my work server. Tried deleting the account and adding it back again. IMAP works - and I can get emails, but it does not put the entries in calendar which active synch used to do.
One of the applications that I used to use frequently was TV.com which seems to be broken after the upgrade. Application does come up and allows me to select the show, but after that it just crashes. Again, it used to work perfectly and I have watched numerous shows on the phone.
Any help with these issues is greatly appreciated.

if you want to go back to froyo then download any Odin one click package for froyo and flash it in download mode through your computer
and if you want to remain in gb then flash any cm from with cwm recovery
A factory reset will almost certainly solve your battery issue, with the downside being that you will lose everything you have on your phone when you do it. This seems to be a common issue after the upgrade.
As far as active sync is concerned, I have this issue as well when both the 3g and wifi icons are showing. If both are there, it won't connect. If one or the other is there, it works fine. As far as I can tell, apps turn 3g on for location purposes, but it doesn't get turned back off properly. Foursquare was by far the biggest offender for me (so much so that I uninstalled it) but Facebook also does it to a much lesser extent. I don't know if this relates to your problem or not, but may be worth checking out.
Hi, I am having a problem installing apps via the Google play store on my PC. When I try to do this, I get an error on the phone "Error while downloading "App Name". "App Name" could not be downloaded due to an error. (906).
If I click on the error, it takes me to the app on Google play on the phone where I can successfully download and install it directly from the phone. So I have a workaround, but the phone itself is second hand so I am worried it is faulty and causing this problem (and therefore who knows what other problems might be around the corner?).
As a bit of background info, the phone came rooted on 534 firmware and I updated to 257 via PC companion. I knew this would lose root but I don't want the phone rooted anyway (don't use any rooted apps etc). However SuperSU was installed and now I can't get rid of it (unless I downgrade, root again, then remove SuperSU and upgrade once more). I don't know if the fact it was rooted has caused the problem, or perhaps the upgrade while rooted and now having SuperSU stuck on my phone is causing the problem (I've never bothered with rooting and the like for years so while I know about it, I do not know the ins and outs of rooting and it's consequences).
My question is: Does anyone else have this problem or is it likely to be a fault with the phone?
Try to clear market data and or cache.
Is it for paid apps ? You have access in your country ?
Sometime I have market error with a yellow triangle in notif bar but it is always because of network connections/ wifi. Once reconnected it is ok.
Thanks for the reply.
I've tried clearing cache and data, I've even factory reset the phone but still no good. It is for all apps, paid and free. The network connection seems to be solid (or at least it would be an awful coincidence if every time for 100+ app installs when I try to install from the pc the network happens to be down, but when I then go straight to the phone and install from there the network is back up again).
Just a question, you want to install app via your comp on your phone when it's pluged to USB cable?
Personally i use google Chrome to Phone for sending immediatly links to my phone, that works also with google app link, that will automatically launch the google store on the app you selected before sending the link.
Also rooting your phone is really necessary? Many people root their phone for doing nothing really necessary...
Nope I don't want to do this while my phone is plugged in to the computer, the phone is in my pocket while I am trying to use the Google app store on my computer to install dozens of apps to the phone.
I know rooting the phone isn't necessary, but, as I explain, the phone was already rooted and I have no need of root. Whether the phone is or isn't rooted I don't mind either way, I was just mentioning the root info in case that is a clue as to why I am having this problem.
No offense intended (really!) but I'm not concerned with how you personally use Chrome to install apps to your phone. I am explaining a problem I have with my phone and wondering if it is a known issue that other people have or whether it is a fault with my phone. I have a workaround that I can use as I explained in the first post, but I am less concerned with what the problem is and more concerned with why the problem is there in the first place (as it may be mean I'm going to run into more problems in the future).
Anywho I can only assume it isn't a common problem, so I'll investigate further.
Cheers
So after encountering the annoying 505 error I did a full back up via the Backup app as sync manager on the laptop wasn't playing ball.
Did the hard factory reset and then restored from the back up file I had made 10 minutes beforehand.
Most things have restored but I went to check a picture and ALL GONE!
Things like whatsapp messages and contacts didn't restore either.
What can do to recover the lost images?
and typically none of it worked to solve the 505 error.
I know this isn't the usual standard of question on this forum but is anyone able to shed some light on my problem?
Does the HTC Backup program, back up images or is that an oversight on my part?
ok so it seems that i'm an idiot and htc doesn't back up images on an htc account back up.
I'm now trying to run my phone through recovery software (MagicCute Recovery) but the program won't recognize the phone, I guess because it's not a mass storage device and connects via MTP?
I read a guild to turn on developer mode and then turn on USB debugging but that hasn't made any difference.
If there a way to plug my phone in and the computer to recognize it as a mass storage device?

check google playstore for undelete software, plenty on there, be careful about how much you install or uninstall.
Dont know if your aware of this, but nothing is ever really deleted, its flagged as safe to be overwritten and hidden from the user, too much installing or un-installing apps will overwite the flagged images.

I am sure that when connected to a Linux machine it shows as an external drive...not sure if that helps at all ?
If what i suggest is true then you can run Linux within windows from a USB drive, but clearly your recovery software has to be a linux compatible version.
Just a suggestion rather than fact!

Currently browsing play store now, is there any you can recommend?
I wasn't fully aware of how it works but I knew I could recovery most with some nifty software. MagicCute has worked wonders in the past for me.
At least all my music is stored in music play store.
I found a PC based program to scan the phone but the phone requires to me rooted for that, although that was my main reason for joining this forum to root I'm a little apprehensive to do anything like that until I have saved my pics!
Cheers.

Someone else said they had great luck with DiskDigger Pro
Good luck!
Sorry sheppster, completely missed your reply somehow yesterday. Thanks for the suggestion.
Thanks clsa I'll give that a go once rooted.
I'm currently reading, reading watching and rewatching content on the rooting process. Very confusing for a complete and utter noob. A lot of content is spoken as if I have a clue, haha.
But I'm now registered on HTC DEV, all videos and content say to select all other supported devices due to the HTC One not being listed, but it is. I'm guessing HTC Dev has been updated since the guides were posted. Shall I click HTC One or still use other devices?
I installed Android Studio and also JDK which it asked for, but when continuing to install Android Studio I got the following message...
Is this detrimental to the use of the program or can I just continue?
Sorry this thread is going to turn into more of a rooting Q&A.
I now have sync manager working correctly and have made a back up on my laptop which I'm happier with than having something floating about in my HTC Account. So I think I'll go ahead and try unlocking my bootloader.
Well I have unlooked the bootloader now. Successfully? Not sure!
After confirming to unlock it then restarted and kept going round in circles, it's now saying "Android is upgrading" running through 253 apps. Nothing like the XDA video where it just restarts as a fresh phone.
I used the HTC One instructions from the drop down menu in the end.
Fingers crossed at the end of that it's working and I can continue to root.
Well considering I have an early start I've stayed up far too long messing around.
BUT! My phone is now rooted, I did attempt putting a venom rom on but it didn't install properly although I seem to have a large ammount of it's features here and there like being able to boot directly to bootloader or recovery from the power button.
But any way the lapcop software I had appeared to be useless, it found 603 images from various emails and programs files none on my actual pictures. I'm not running disk digger which again has found background images but still 85% left to scan.
I'm not holding out too much hope now as there's been a few files added and deleted to root and also reset again to root.
I'll update tomorrow how it went.
I didn't realise how cheap Disk Digger Pro was, so bought and ran that last night. I think it found touch under 4000 images but again mostly PNG program images.
It did manager to find 41 useful images though. It seemed to mainly pick up pictures which I had recently used on facebook, so annoyingly mainly recoverable images through facebook.
It picked up a lot of signatures from various emails and made a lot of duplicates. Not a bad effort for under 2 quid though.
