I am currently running Stock JVH with Fugumod kernel 3.8. My problem is that I am unable to install ANY .zip file from CWM. I have tried supercurios hacked kernel also, but I got the same error:
Chose install zip from SD card:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
E:Can't open /sdcard/XXXXXXXXXX.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted.
I have redownloaded every rom I have tried to flash several times, in case it was corrupted or something, also reflashed stock rom via Heimdall twice, nothing has worked. I have been using custom roms via cwm and heimdall for months, this has never happened before.
What could be the problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, not sure if it's possible but maybe your data cable is corrupting the files during transfer. I have had this message before and it was due to the file being corrupted. If you try and open the .zip file on your computer you can see if it is corrupted (if it opens it isn't).
Suppose away of testing if the data cable is corrupting your files during transfer would be to try and open the .zip file on your phone using thinkfree office or something similar. Again if it opens then it is not corrupted and I have no other thoughts.

this has nothing to do with awipe
make sure that if you're on windows rename it to update in the removable disk. go to console and do:
mount sdcard
ls sdcard
should say something with update, is it update.zip.zip or update.zip
try naming the file simply update w/no .zip sometimes windows will add an ext without you putting on the on the end of the file because it is already a zipped file. I had this problem the other day
I just flashed back to stock (apparently a new version) which is 2.2. My problem is that i cant install clockworkmod. Ive tried two different methods
1. Using rom manager, and just downloading it then flashing it.
2. Downloading the clockworkmod file, putting it in the root directory, and using adb to go into recovery and install it.
Both times i got this error
Finding update package..
Opening update package..
Verifying update package..
E:failed to verify whole-file signature
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
How can i fix this?
Thanks
Check out the third sticky in captivate general. The one about 3e signature verification. May be what you are looking for.
yeah, i just tried that. Didnt work. Im not sure if i did it right though...
I did..
1) copy the recovery file onto my phone
2) download terminal emulator
3) type su (to get it root access)
4) enter the command (nothing happened after i entered it... it just entered)
5) open file expert and put the file in the right directory
6) use adb to reboot into recovery
then i tried flawshing update.zip... same signature problem
I'm kinda stuck now. Ever since I installed cm7 rc5.3 I cannot install from sd card - anything. It cannot open any file when I try to install an update and only message is (BAD) Installation Aborted. Therefore when I tried to install rc5.4 I couldn't!
I don't want to flash through odin again cos thats the whole point of not having to wipe data etc on this new rom (hopefully). Before anyone asks, yes I have tried to unmount and unmount sd card and also toggled signature verification etc etc

You know whether this works or not, its a fantastic idea. I will try and let you know!
Well flashed cwm 4 through odin with no results, however I think I already had cwm 4 anyway cos couldn't install cwm 5 because of same installation problem. However now it has allowed me to install cwm 5 and after reboot recovery still this same message with rc5.4
Code:
Finding update package. . .
Opening update package. . .
E: Can't open /sdcard/update-cm-7.2-RC5.4-GalaxyMini-Release-signed.zip(bad)
Installation aborted
I'm gonna try and redownload. Perhaps the download waas corrupted halfway through. I tried through a different sd card and still no results.
Edit* Think I've found the problem. I knew something was up as soon as I visited the download page. The 2 file sizes were completely different so something happened with the first download of rc5.4 so hopefully now (fingers crossed) everything should be fine! =)
Edit2* However it's not all fine. When I downloaded, it only downloaded 95.2mb instead of 95.3mb and the last time it downloaded it only downloaded 33.9mb. Does anyone have the full file perhaps they can upload elsewhere?? Please, I've been waiting a week to flash this =(
so i think cwm is not responsible for the error the problem is you have not downloaded the package properly
ok to find the problem delete maket, youtube app and try to flash gapps package after mounting system and data if the package get installed then cwm is ok. and redownload the package

you can do
-wipe data
-wipe cache
-install zip from sd
-choose the zip of the CM7 rc5.3
then try to flash again the cm7 rc5.4
Kilobyte differences may not mean a file is corrupted. Try comparing the checksums of the file with software like this:

your idea of checking md5sum is good but donot unestimate a single kb suppose if the update binary is not there then cwm will not install the package
Background: I've been using CM9 for quite a while; finally decided to install the ICS leak underneath to try to improve the radio issues. I switched Safestrap back to the unsafe boot (stock), then went through the ICS leak instructions; flashed the 6.13.219 fastboot images using Windows RSDLite (Linux wouldn't flash the webtop image via fastboot command-line ), booted up, rooted it, installed and configured OTA Rootkeeper, then tried to install from stock recovery. I'm getting this, though:
Code:
-- Install /sdcard ...
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E:signature length doesn't match EOCD marker
E:signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
One caveat is that I did softbrick it because the battery died while RSDLite was working on that webtop image (amazing how fast the battery drains at the bootloader). I was able to resolve that, though.
Has anybody else had this problem; if so, how were you able to fix it? I haven't been able to find any other similar reports via Google.
Any help greatly appreciated. I love CM9, even with the radio issues, but it would be nice to reduce the severity
Based on the error description it sounds like there something wrong with the update zip you are trying to flash. I would try redownloading the update and see if that works.

I've tried I also tried using the .213 build instead of .215; same problem. Do you know what hash algorithm is used for the .crc file? It looks like a CRC32 in decimal, and if that's the case, both of my Blur_Version.6.13.219.XT894.Verizon.en.US.zip files are corrupted - but I'm only guessing as to the algorithm.

I don't know what any of that means. LOL! But, if you are flashing the leak via stock recovery from your ext sd card you shouldn't even need the crc file.

Yeah - I wasn't using it for the flash, I just wanted to use it to verify that my download wasn't corruped. A re-download yielded the same md5sum though.
reflash the Gingerbread .219 and this time don't root. Install the ICS leak and then root.
I installed omar rom with breeze, but now every rom I threw to cwm fails to install with error "Installation aborted". I'm not sure if it's related to omar rom since I did not install any other roms before. This is part of log from clockworkmod/recovery.log:
Code:

result was NULL, message is: assert failed: install_zip("/sdcard/clockwormod/backup/CFC_9.8.2i-50_SMI-26S7-USASMIJBRTEU.xml.zip")
I:using /data/media for /sdcard.
Notice: there can be typos in this log since i rewritten it manually from phone screen.
I tried dozen of roms from sbf.droid-developers.org/smi/list.php , there is no way of corrupt download. My method of installing is following:
Download rom from sbf.droid-developers.org/smi/list.php
Put it to somewhere in phone (in this example case I put it in /clockwormod/backup/)
Boot to cwm recovery
choose "install zip from sdcard"
choose "choose zip from sdcard"
and of course browsing to correct folder and choosing correct rom file
These files are zipped files witch have to be unzipped and flashed via RSD-Lite

Yes that was it, thanks. Is there a way to do it in linux though? sbf_flash requires .sbf file which is not available in razr i zipped roms.
