[Q] Can i calibrate my battery with my phone on? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi there
quick question:
charge up to 100%, delete batterystats.bin, use til phone turns off. Can i then plug in my phone and turn it on?
All the guides say leave it turned off til fully charged, but lets face it, 3 hours without a phone during the day isn't always possible. Surely having the phone on doesn't make a difference, as long as i keep it charging til 100%?
thanks!

That's how I have always done it and it works just fine.
And for the thousens of users on CM7 and MIUI roms the phone boots the moment you plugg in the charger so it's impossible to charge with the phone turned off and never heard any complains about calibrating the battery problems.

[Q] Is My Battery Dead?

So i woke up this morning and i forgot to charge my HD2, i had just rooted it a few days ago running smoothly on Core Droid. but when i tried to charge it, it didnt . no light was showing. before i had this incident the battery would run out quickly. When i try to plug it in to the charger nothing happens, and a few times it would shwo the boot screen then suddently shut down and now that doesnt happen anymore. Do i have to get a new battery?
Running Android may mean that your phone might not shut down before the battery protection circuit activates, to prevent destruction of the cell.
Once this happens the standard charger may not be able to charge this battery, although I have read that removing the battery from the phone for a couple of hours and trying again might work - do some searching on xda.
If you have access to other micro-usb chargers then give them all a go, one might work - or you may have to replace the battery.
Also try removing the battery whist it plugged into the charger then leave it as advised above

Good idea. After this you have to charge the phone for 100% before turning it on again (just leave it overnight)
Then turn it on, let it drain completely until it dies.
This way you have re-calibrated the battery and you might get better battery life.
Apart from that, you can try the one-in-a-million power saving tips.

Strange battery loading behaviour?

Hey Guys,
in the last few days I noticed following strange battery issues:
When I go to bed in the evening I plug my phone to the charger,
in the Morning I have a green LED and battery is at 100%.
A few minutes later the Battery has a massive Drop from 100%
(From 100% to 58% or 100% to 38% or 100% to 61%)
After I noticed this, I installed Current Widget to log the battery
consumption.
Here is what the Log says:
2011/06/22 02:16:15,64mA,99%,4.205V
2011/06/22 02:18:20,56mA,99%,4.205V
2011/06/22 02:19:39,54mA,99%,4.205V
2011/06/22 02:22:00,50mA,100%,4.205V
2011/06/22 02:23:00,48mA,100%,4.205V
2011/06/22 02:26:04,-104mA,100%,4.175V
2011/06/22 02:28:12,-104mA,100%,4.175V
.
.
.
.
2011/06/22 08:24:33,-48mA,100%,3.874V
2011/06/22 08:25:34,-78mA,100%,3.874V
2011/06/22 08:26:34,-46mA,61%,3.869V
2011/06/22 08:27:34,-154mA,61%,3.869V
Two whole Logs can be seen here: http://pastebin.com/yfzBcJk3
So my question is:
Why is the battery depleting between 02:26:12 an 08:24:33
while still plugged in?
Is this a Bug?
How can i fix it?
At the moment im running my IncS on Android Revolution HD 1.0.2 ROM
(I have noticed this also with 1.0.1 and Unitiy Kernel...)
It's not a good idea to leave the phone pluged to the charger. When its fully charged i always take the charger out.
There is several threads about that, e.g. this one.
same here m8
but i found, that cause is Current Widget. Uninstall it and everything gonna be ok. if not - install Power Tutor and find the way your power disappearing.
i have around 1% battery drop every 2 hours and 30-40% with Current Widget installed. (on stock and Android Revolution HD ROMs)

Erm ... when I am asleep I wont plug out my Phone, because, well I am sleeping
Well if you read through this section, you will see a couple of threads with this discussed.
The issue you are facing is common.
Once the phone is completely charged to 100%, the phone automatically stops drawing power from the charger.
So lets say you start charging your phone at 2:15, it may charge up fully by 3:15.
Though it is still connected to the charger, the phone stops charging once it reaches 100%.
Then the phone starts drawing power for its normal usage, standby, display, any apps running in the background etc.
So by the time you wake up at 8:15 (or wenever) the phone wen connected will still show 100%, but after unplugging in a couple of minutes, it will drop down to the actual battery percentage.
nothing wrong with the phone.
i noticed the same with my earlier x10 after the 2.1 update as well.

Nice explanation! Always wondered what was going on here. So key is not to charge it over night?

well, key is to charge it as long as required.
Once it reaches 100%, any additional charging is a waste of electricity

Good point! Do you know if the phone's alarm still works when the phone is off? This was the case for my old i8910 hd and was quite handy for saving battery at night
UPDATE: No it doesn't!

[Q] Won't turn on

Running cm7 nightly 53.
I just went to reboot the phone while the hdmi was plugged in. Screen turned off, now the whole phone won't power back on. I've pulled the battery, it won't turn on at all. It's like it just died?
Does anyone have any ideas? It's only a week old so I'm guessing cm7 has bugged?
is ur battery empty? if so, and can't boot, usually remove battery, wait a few minutes, plug in everything again, but don't switch on. after that everythig is normal.
Thanks, it was the battery. I plugged the charger in and the phone turned on. I didn't even think the battery would be dead seeing as I just saw it was at 80% when I hit reboot....
Anyway, now my battery is only lasting 3-4 hours. Before I was getting 2-3 days use out of it without charging. Now I can't leave the house without my charger. Kind of defeats the purpose of it being a mobile phone.....
Sometimes I will charge it, unplug it then unlock it, and the phone will just turn off, as it turns off I can see the battery is drained in the top right corner.
I'm going to try a stock rom again.

Slimbean 2.8 Issues

So Slimbean is awesome and all that but when I am charging my phone overnight, I leave the phone on because my alarm is on my phone to wake me up in the morning.
However I find that every morning that I wake up, the phone is always off. It never manages to stay on for the duration of the night.
I suffered from the auto-shutdown issue that the captivate has even with my stock gingerbread, but even so it managed to stay on for the night to wake me up in the morning.
What's strange is that in the morning when I wake up (late), I can't turn my phone on. While the charger is still plugged in, the phone just refuses to boot. I have to pull out my charger in order for the phone to boot, and often the battery is only at 60-80% (I'm assuming that the phone shut off prior to being fully charged and after turning off the charging.. stopped?)
I'm really confused as to why this is happening. if someone could help me out here that'd be awesome.
thanks ~
I only Had the problem not being able to use phone while it was charging. it would not go beyond the battery icon. That was with 2.6
Now I am on 2.8 and it does not do that any longer. I am able to have phone off charging and then press power button. First I get battery icon and then I press again and phone boots. I formatted everything 3 times before I moved to 2.8.

i have this bug, too !!!
Please help
This battery bug is a known problem for quite some time, it can have different behaviours from user to user but basically, when you restart your phone you lose around 10% of battery, but the battery power is still there, for example you can charge it to 100%, restart it a couple of time and feel the real power of 50% battery for 1 day
Me and anders tried to repair this but with not too much success, i could say the simptoms were aleviated but that's pretty much it, the battery driver seems to me to have been developed in an internship, has lot's of TODO and FIXME in the sources.
Hope this helps
so, i can't fix this? i go to buy a new battery...
