Upgraded the firmware, worked great. No 3G, No Modem Connection, No Registration. I tried the following modems no difference: JPZ, JK3, JK5.
I use U.S. AT&T, pay per use. Recommended modem.bin and any additional procedures I should follow? Thank you.
OK I MANAGED TO FINALLY GET IT TO WORK. I HAVE NOT FIGURED OUT ALL THE OPTIONS BUT THIS IS WHAT IT TOOK!
IN SETTINGS:
used the Gingerbread 2.3.3 modem.bin that came with the tar file and loaded it with ODIN.
Access Point Names: Broadband or isp.cingular |(wap.cingular aka AT&T 310 does not work with pure data lines)
Network Mode: GSM/WCDMA (auto mode) | If you use the GSM option you will only get Edge Performance not H or in the U.S. 3G.
I found the following applications useful : Network Signal Info| useful at understanding not only signal strength, but more importantly Net Type: EDGE, HSPDA, UMTS and Data State:
: Quick Settings | For quickly turning on/off Mobile data or wi/fi.
These changes also now supports the AT&T Microcell (converts signal to travel over wi-fi ethernet in weak signal areas) On other AT&T 3G phones this activation is indicated on the main screen, all you see on the Gingerbread, Italian Tab is an H with arrows blinking.
Only problem: Both wifi and mobile data will not stay connected simultaneously. This is not a problem for me, because I pay for actual usage on GSM. I consciously have to remember to turn on the mobile data. if I want to use it.
Are you in Australia? Try the JJ3 modem
How did you update the firmware?
I had the same problem after update with ODIN.
The problem was that I couldn't boot the tablet into recovery mode to make a wipe cache and wipe data/factory reset.
(save your data before with Kiss)
To boot into recovery mode:
1. switch of the tablet
2. press and hold the plus and the power button.
3. Tablet will boot in recovery mode
4. select wipe cache and start process
5. select wipe data/factory reset and start process
6. reboot
hope for you it will work.
U.S. AT.&T. West Coast
Mine didnt work either, i am on tmobile and just flashed my approprite stock tmoble modem and was good to go

Everything ran fine except I could not get 3g to work.
In case you didn't see this:
Go to Settings, Wireless & Network, Mobile Networks, Access Point names and make sure you have one called Broadband (assuming you are on the ATT monthly data only plan)
If you dont, create a new APN and name it Broadband & make the APN Broadband as well. Just leave the other options and save it & select it.
I think by default it comes up with the ATT wap.cingular APN which doesnt work with the Tab Data plan.

This helped. I am using the jpz modem but it peaks out at 150kbps rather than 1mbps. Should I use a different modem.bin?
Try the JK3 modem

Thanks for the tip about Broadband APN. I got it fully working now! I used the bell modem though and according to the speedtest.net app I get >3M down and ~1M upload speeds. I wonder if the app is buggy

I'm going to Germany for a month and do not want to accrue any voice/data charges while I'm there. I plan to use wifi only. What's the best way to disable voice/data, but still use wifi? I also want to make sure that my apps do not try to establish a data connection outside of wifi. One idea I have is to keep the phone in "airplane" mode. But I'm concerned that if I reboot my phone it will kick itself out of airplane mode and start roaming.
Any suggestions?
change the APN settings to point to a non-exsistant server, cell interent wont work but wifi can be on and you can still make/receive calls and SMS if need be
I just got back from Europe, this worked wonders for me.
1. Go to Settings
2. Go to Wireless and Network Settings
3. Go to Mobile Networks
4. Uncheck the Data Roaming Option.
This will prevent your phone from using data while you are roaming.
@dcplaya I am also running on Cin Bell. Works great!
Or get a German SIM, that way you'll have data. If anybody calls you on your US number let them leave a voice mail on Google voice

I have a Nexus One in the UK and have so far taken it to the US, Switzerland, France, NZ and HK. The above definitely works and should be all you need to do. I just had a look at my online balance and can confirm the total on my data charges is £0.00. Note that you can leave this setting disabled the whole time, even when you're in your own country. The phone distinguishes between roaming and non-roaming and acts accordingly.

awesome thx - i came to post this exact question and bam, first thread.
Hi. Anyone know why my coworker's iphone at&t sim works in my tab but not the pay-as-you-go sim that originally came with it?
I'm using the JK3 modem with the overcome beta2 rom. Is there an issue with this modem working with the type of plan I have?
Thanks!

Awesome! That did it.

RichAP,
you are the F**Kin man. I spent 2 1/2 hours on the phone with at&t with no result. after search this furom and changing names (a whole 15 mins at the most) I finnally have data. Maybe these "tech customer service" people should use xda when help people out, or maybe my dumb ass should have looked first. either way thanks RichAP.
No problem, glad I could help!
I've also had an issue with the stock AT&T Data Usage widget messing up my either my APN or Data.
Followed these instructions, but I think I have another layer of complexity.
My Tab is an international version and when I signed up on the att.com/addsession (or whatever the name is) page, it tells me they don't have a data plan for my device. Is that because my version of the Tab has voice capabilities?
I'll call AT&T tomorrow but thought I would see if anyone else has had this issue.
I've just upgraded from 2.2, and now I can't seem to get 3G working with AT&T. Does anybody have any suggestions? I've tried fiddling with the Settings but nothing seems to work. Help is appreciated, thanks.
In the About Device, the Mobile network type listed is HSDPA, but the Mobile network state is Disconnected.
Have you checked your APN settings? Also what's your baseband version showing in 'About device'?
Please use WCDMA mode

Flash the bell modem then set the apn to get data and phone working after flashing stock 2.3.3?

Thank you so much! This worked! Just did this and restarted.
I finished installing Darky's 10.1 Extreme Mod onto my Samsung Galaxy S the other day, and since then I have not had any connection to a 3G network.
I live in Australia and my phone carrier is Virgin Mobile running on the Optus Network. Before I flashed over from a Voodoo Lag Fixed stock 2.2, 3G worked fine.
I have checked in the wireless and networks setting to make sure the phone is set to "Use packet data" under mobile networks (Data roaming is turned off), but it makes no difference. I have also turned packet data off and on to make sure. Network Mode is set to GSM/WCDMA (auto mode). During setup for Darky's Rom, I left the Modem to defualt settings, JQ1 or something.
I'm not sure what I have broken but I'd love some help getting 3G back. It is very limiting to what a good smart phone can do.
Thanks
which model of I9000 u have? most likely is a modem problem i installed GB in my GT-I9000T and i had to go back to froyo cuz i didnt had 3G and low network reception...i recommend you to wait for more versions of GB come out if that is your case...

So far as I can tell from the About Phone settings page, it is just a plain GT-I9000 with a Baseband of I9000XXJVO. Though I can't remember what it said before the flash.

There is nothing in the APN Settings. Should there be names?
More Info
I looked up the APN settings for Virgin Mobile Australia and entered them into the phone but when I saved the new APN it didn't appear in the list. Just gone.
I inserted the SIM Card into an unmodified Samsung Galaxy TAB in which I have used this SIM card in the past. Still can't get 3G on the TAB, and there was no settings in the APN section. Could be a problem with the SIM card?
I also used a feature on virgin mobiles website to send the APN settings to the phone but they return an error when trying to send me the settings.
virginmobile com au/internet-on-your-mobile-phone/the-vibe/get-set-up
Oddly enough if I just enter in the name of the network and no other details, it does save the APN correctly and works fine again. Sweet
Thanks though all.

Just as I suspected. Those are the 3G settings for your network. If you used Titanium Backup those settings are under [SMS/MMS/APN] Dialer Storage, just restore and reboot your phone and thats it.
Pulled from the Inspire forums and can confirm working mod.
PROCEDURE FOR ROMS WITH A SINGLE LOCKED APN:
If your APN is locked (it shows the lock symbol and you cannot change the settings), then we're just going to add a second one.
From the APN screen, press Menu>>New APN. Here are the settings for your 2nd APN. Everything is case sensitive and must be entered exactly as below.
Name: Media Net (if your 1st locked APN is named Media Net, then just name this one Media Net2 - this name in this field isn't important as long as it's unique)
APN: Phone
MMS protocol: WAP 2.0 (this option might not be in your APN, so don't worry if you don't see it)
MCC: xxx (Don't change this number)
MNC: xxx (Don't change this number)
APN type: default, admin, hipri (notice there are no spaces between the words and the commas)
APN protocol (if applicable): IPv4
Everything else: <Not set>
Once you have the above settings entered, press menu and save. You will exit back out to the APN selection screen. Now you need to select the little round button for the new APN (Media Net/Phone) that you just created. Your phone's data connection will drop for several seconds as it switches to the new APN, and then come back. If you find that your connection doesn't "stick" on the 2nd APN (i.e. the selection button keeps reverting back to the 1st APN) then reboot your phone and try selecting the 2nd APN again.[/COLOR][/B] It is mandatory that the 2nd APN is selected in order for the speed benefit.
We're done. If something went wrong and you need to revert back to your default APN config, from the APN selection screen just press menu and select "Reset to default".
Will this allow tethering without the tethering plan?

Awesome!! Thanks!!
Even better it drops us off of LTE, i.e. we can now turn the darn thing off and save some battery
This doesnt let you use LTE 4g while doing tetherning. After adding this apn it kicks you to the HSPA+ 4g.
But this is an easy way to create an easy way to switch between LTE and HSPA+
Edit: also it didnt allow me to do tethering. Said i had to dial 611 and get it added.
I seem to be doing something wrong... I made the second APN and activated it. When I try to use the WiFi Hotspot App, I get a message about adding tethering. Should I be using a different app?

Have you followed step by step? Yes? Then have you tried rebooting the phone?
Is there any way you can update that APN to work with LTE 4g.

Sorry as of now I don't have a way. Will be figuring that out shortly.
Does not work for me.
Followed steps and reboot. No good.
Not Working
It works for a second and then it reverts back to that you need a tethering plan. Any other info. Thanks

I've ran it for about 2 gigs today and had no issues. Also once you turn it off the next time you wanna do it you will have to switch back to the stock APN and then back to the one you made. It's not perfect but it's better than nothing right now.
I didn't use these settings to enable tethering, but I entered them just to get ANY sort of data connection. It definitely solved my issues. Thanks a lot!
Won't revert to default
I set up an apn for hspa+ before I could get a 4g sim. I've switched sims and now I wanted to go back to default and it said I had no data due to an apn error. The radial box is selected for the original apn.
It would work for a second and my laptop would see the network but quickly went back to telling me to go to AT&T and get a tethering plan. However Having the second APN seems to help when the data gets flaky, which is VERY often. Speeds are erratic and I often can't get ANY data.
Sentinel
would love to see this work with the LTE connection.
