Solved by building another jig.
Hey Guys,
Is there any way to restore bootloaders through adb? I think mine are gone/fubar'd Thanks for any help you guys can offer.

This is his second thread started on same issue......first thread (at this moment just 3 below this one) has a little more detail.
PS. If I could help I would but you have me stumped.
If your boot loaders are fubar abd is of no use

it just loops to 3e recovery. I cand send adb reboot download and it still goes back to recovery with the error:
E:Can't mount /dev/block/stl10
(Invalid argument)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount DBDATA:
your storage not prepared yet. please use UI Menu for format and reboot actions.
I found the thread on how to fix that issue, but it requires getting into DL mode which I can't because I dont have the 3 button combos. I can access the device through adb though.
I requested deletion on the other thread, my main goal is to see if I can get the bootloaders back on somehow.
Well, I guess I'm just screwed.. bummer guess jtag is the only thing thats gonna save my ass.

Pretty sure it's screwed..
Try going to DL mode by this method....Remove battery->Hold VOl UP+DOWN-> insert usb cord -> now insert battery. Now flash using odin. This worked for me when I was in similar situation. The fact that you can see recovery means that your bootloaders are not totaly F'ked up.
Isn't there an option for formatting sd in CM? And an option for mounting as well?
I agree on the jig and Odin one click back to jf6. Jtag is for hard bricks. You just need to force download to get back to stock bootloaders.

the only thing i can suggest is to try looking at adam oulters threads on non jtag recovery. he has a arduino board that can read the logs the phone is putting out and a jig to simulate a uart cable. somewhere in the videos he demonstrates forcing download. maybe a uart jig could help you instead of the other usb jig. or maybe some other piece of information can help. if not there is a chance he can push it into download mode with his rig if you send him the phone.
I'll just get a warranty replacement then I guess, just sucks to be phone-less in the meantime. Thanks to all who tried to help, and suggestions are still welcomed if maybe a dev wants to chime in. Gonna check out AdamO's thread.
I had this happen to me.....was this on gingerbread or froyo bootloaders?
I had a stroke of luck when my 3 button combo worked for my bricked gingerbread loader captivate yesterday

Hi Experts,
I have a Cappy and i love Continuum 5 ROM. I never miss any versions from beta2 to RC 3, everything is ok, but now when contimuum v5.1 was released. I tried to flash it but i got a big problem in that version. The first, i encountered Boot Loop issue while booting, but it's not the biggest problem, my cappy is still boot up to the home screen, and here everything was became very bad. My Cappy got lag and cant interact with return and it reboot automatic after that.
Now, when v5.1 was released, i believed it'll be fixed, but it's still exists. .
my cappy cant boot up to home screen. it repeats booting to continuum animation and restart forever.
can anybody give me a suggestion for turning my cappy back !!!!!!!! Please help
Did you have full battery? I made this mistake too... Be sure that you did everything correctly..

I would suspect you could simply use the 1-CLICK ODIN program to restore the phone then follow the steps carefully for 5.1 (which is a pretty awesome ROM btw)
I'm sure i charged full battery before flashing.

I've had problems in the past with getting to download mode on the cappy. I did some googling trying to find a way, ended up finding a very good page on it:
http://samsungcaptivate.wikia.com/wiki/Putting_the_Phone_into_Download_Mode
I hope that helps.
Had the same problem with my cappy. The problem is that after all you did, you have one bootloader from i9000 and another from i897. The jig won`t help. I`ve found the people that recovered the phone with JTAG.
Hi, I have a SS/ATT Galaxy S. It was working fine. I made the mistake of running an update to change the ATT splash screen. The device boots to the ATT splash screens and stays there. You can hear the SS start up sounds as though the unit booted ok.
I've tried various Odins they all hang on file analysis. I've tried using different computers per the recommendations in the various threads. I've tried many of the one click and also separate file updaters. They all hang on file analysis.
I am able to use Droid explorer to view the device. I've also put a new update.zip on an sd card but nothing seems to change the splash screen.
I'm not sure how to tell what version the unit is currently on.
I can get to the 3 button state. It says Android System recovery <2e>.
I have the options to reboot, reinstall packages, delete all user data and delete cache data. I've tried each of them, no change.
I have tried to read many threads before bothering anyone. Your input would be appreciated.
Thanks
if you have the update.zip on your phone, in the root of your SD card.. then from 2eRecovery, select reinstall packages.. may have to do it twice. That will boot your phone into clockworkmod recovery.. and from there you should be able to mount storage- put a ROM on your device, flash and be good to go.
Reply to thread
Hi, Thanks for the fast response. I've tried update.zip on both an sd card and also via droid explorer, about 5 times. If I reboot, same thing, the ATT splash is there, and the Galaxy boot sound. I can get into recovery and droid explorer works. If I try Odin it hangs on file analysis. Anything else I can try? Thanks again.
Are you in dl mode when you try this, or recovery?
The phone is now bricked. I was in recovery mode as I saw the 3 button posts on holding the up/down and pwr. I just tried it with dl mode and odin3 and bricked it.(based on another forum's input to check repartition I think). Now it won't boot at all but I'm still able to get to dl mode but not sure what to run to fully recover.

If you can get to dl mode try using AIO Captivate to flash back to stock 2.1. I've had success as I flashed with the partition checked and had to go all the way back using ODIN contained in the AIO Captivate program. Found here

Yeah if you can get into download mode than you are not bricked. I would Odin or Heim back to JF6 and go from there. What happened when you tried reinstalling packages from 2e? I know you said everytime you reboot- but what did it say when selected reinstall packages?

Yeah, it was quite scary. I actually purchased some 100k resistors on Ebay but didn't need to make the jig.
Can you recommend a good set of f/w to load? Is it worth it to move to 2.3?

+1.
I had to make a jig when I soft bricked it. Not fun. Since then I purchased one and am glad I did.
Well, that means I won't have wasted my $2.00.
I saw this and thought it worth to try. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D0aoabVtPJ8
In your footer, it says you're using mosaic.
e.g. ROM: Mosaic III, ¤Kernel: Xcal's #14, ¤Modem: JK4, ¤Launcher: ADW Ex
Can you point me to the correct files/process? I guess I'm scared of screwing it up again. when I look on the forum there's almost too much info for a noob to choose which is best. Cheers...
I think I've tried everything except what I need to do. Anyway, here's the problem.
I was on MIUI 1.7.29 I believe, when all of a sudden, I restarted my phone, and my internal SD card was "blank." I restarted it one more time, and it solved the problem, or so it seemed.
Next time I rebooted my phone, my SD card was "blank" and I couldn't mount it for the life of me. I read somewhere that this may happen if you don't come from the stock ROM, which I came from Cog5v1, so I decided to flash back to the "I897UCJF6-final-OCD-REV0" which I've had on my computer since I've owned my Captivate and re-do my MIUI ROM.
So, I flash that, and everything seems fine, until all the splash screens stop. Then my phone just sits at a black screen with the touch buttons lit up.
Now from here, I've had a few phone problems in my day that have been solved with a download jig, so I find my jig and flash a different Kernel on to get CWM up and format my internal SD card that way, but anytime I flash another Kernal and boot into recovery, I get the "E:failed to mount /sdcard (File Exists)" error, in the default recovery screen.
I've even flashed the .tar that should force conversion back to rfs format.
And here's another kicker, I can't seem to get the phone recognized by adb at any point in the process, so I can't even manually do it! Please help me figure this out.
Let me know if there is any other information you need, and keep in mind, I'm not new at this and I'm not afraid to do anything crazy.

But I assume that you could restore a DD backup of partitions to resolve this.

After looking for quite a few hours on google and xda the only solution thats shows up is to use a jtag and quite frankly that scares the pants off me
here is what happened
-i upgraded the device to froyo then did the super one click root in order to root
-after that i installed the modified recovery to turn off the signature check
-after doing that i flashed clockwork mod renamed update.zip through recovery
-after that i flashed the ICS beta but i could not get the main zip to work through recovery the only other zip i had on my sd card was the kernel so i flashed that and it worked, in clockworkmod 5.0 it wiped everything on the phone so i reloaded the 2 zips i flashed the rom there and it rebooted. (this is out of order from the thread so i know this is what causes the next problem.
now when ICS boots up i get an encryption unsuccessful screen saying i need a factory reset, only option given is reboot now. can't bypass the screen, can't access via adb (driver install fails on windows too), cant get into download mode, and can't get into recovery.
how screwed am i
device is
Samsung captivate
-build number 1009
You need Gingerbread bootloaders.
And since you cant get into download mode... You probably need a USB Jig.
Good news is that you see something at startup. I doubt you are totally screwed then.
Second the jig as an option. It has quite the track record on this forum as making the captivate almost un-brickable.
What have you tried as far as getting your phone into download mode? There are sometimes multiple ways (Vol-up + Vol-down while plugging in USB without battery, sim, or microsd installed is how I always seem to get it working). Here is a list:
http://samsungcaptivate.wikia.com/wiki/Putting_the_Phone_into_Download_Mode
To my knowledge, none of that information is dated... but there are those here that know far more about it than I ever will.
none of those methods worked, it just stinks if it would have been any other rom i would have been fine i think but since i can't do anything in user space and everything i do takes me to the ICS android screen i cant do anything.
also for the record i am a noob to samsung devices but i have been doing this stuff to HTC devices for years

1. Turn off phone, remove sim, battery, sd

This has instantly granted download mode on every captivate i've ever tried.

The team hacksung project might be compatible, but the straight port says in the op that you need to flash kf1 first, which included bootloaders.
You aren't hard bricked and your device is recoverable.
If you are still on the froyo bootloaders, try unplugging the usb cable, removing the battery, sim and sd cards, hold vol up+vol down (don't hold power), and plug the usb cable back in. It should take you to download mode.
If your phone responds to adb while it's booting, you can just issue a quick 'adb reboot download' or 'adb reboot recovery' to get it to boot into either without the button combos.
If either of those don't work, you can try forcing it with a usb jig (just a 301k resistance over pins 4 and 5 of the microusb port). Build a jig, take the battery out, plug the jig in, make sure not to touch the jig while it's in or you'll change the resistance and won't work, put the battery back in and it should kick your phone into download mode. Once you're there, simply remove the jig and plug the usb cable back in.
Sometimes the download mode graphic won't show up even if you are actually in download mode. If the phone looks like it hung, try connecting it to Odin anyway and see if it recognizes it.
Edit: forgot to mention, try using adb from linux (virtual machine or livecd will work too). You shouldn't have to mess with drivers and it's worth a shot.

Hey,
Could you tell us more about how it was resolved?
I'm having the same issue here.
After looking through forums and gathering information about rooting my device i decided to give it a shot, I followed the instructions to a 'T after using Odin and my preferred pda I found my phone had got stuck on the Samsung start-up screen. I looked more and was told i had bricked my phone ..
I was also told it was 'unbrickable' which means I could fix it by loading a PIT into Odin, I followed the instructions on how to achieve this, Odin told me everything went successful and Now my phone wont turn on or charge, In fact it's Black as the night..
I'm telling myself this might could be fixed, I would very much appreciate any help anyone can offer me on this problem

Try remove your battery for a while and restart it
I think you are flashing wrong file. Check the history of releases for your model by your carrier and get the right stock froyo or gingerbread file to flash.

Thank you, I give this a try and have access to the 'Downloading screen' again. I still can't get to the Recovery option.
