[Q] My Samsung galaxy s gt-i9000.. is broke? - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

After looking through forums and gathering information about rooting my device i decided to give it a shot, I followed the instructions to a 'T after using Odin and my preferred pda I found my phone had got stuck on the Samsung start-up screen. I looked more and was told i had bricked my phone ..
I was also told it was 'unbrickable' which means I could fix it by loading a PIT into Odin, I followed the instructions on how to achieve this, Odin told me everything went successful and Now my phone wont turn on or charge, In fact it's Black as the night..
I'm telling myself this might could be fixed, I would very much appreciate any help anyone can offer me on this problem

Try remove your battery for a while and restart it

I think you are flashing wrong file. Check the history of releases for your model by your carrier and get the right stock froyo or gingerbread file to flash.

2 i9000's keeps rebooting (softbrick) $20 bounty

Hello,
I have read many threads and have tried many solutions with no avail. I am giving out $20 (may not be much but still an insentive) to whomever that will help me solve this.
I have 2 vibrants that keep booting to the Galaxy S i9000 intro and keeps rebooting there. I can't get into the recovery mode, but I can get into download mode and ODIN works just fine.
Please someone help

Just flash another firmware with Odin.Download a stock firmware, click re partition in odin, load all 3 files and pit and flash it.
You see sometimes after flashing with odin in some cases you might have to do a factory reset to boot the phone, since you cant go in recovery you will need to flash a complete stock firmware. This will probably work.

The people above me pretty much said it.
Go into download mode, connect to odin, download a firmware that will work with your phone, flash your phone. That should fix it.
Best of luck! Tell me how it goes
K. Just came back from bell corporate store. Said I can't do anything without a receipt so until I get a hold of my friend that I bought this off of, I will try what you guys have suggested.
By the way, the gentleman (who seemed very knowledgable) tried flashing my phone on the spot behind the counter and now the phone boots with a black screen and the bottom keys glow when pressed.
When entering recovery mode <3e> and try to format internal sd-card, i get the following:
E:Can't mount /dev/block/mmcblk0p1
(No such file or directory)
E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount SDCARD:
I will now try what you guys have suggested and keep you updated.
tried kewjoe's suggestion but no luck. Any other suggestions?
Time for a replacement - looks like you've got the ever-so-popular internal SD card death.
If you take it into a Bell store they'll send it out and you should get a new one sent back to you in the mail. Bonus if you have any scratches on the phone or anything.

Read some of the bell threads that deal with this sdcard issue. Some people went through samsung directly and didn't need a receipt.

I've had that problem, shouldn't be too hard to fix.
Flash the Rom JPC with a 512 pit, make sure re-partition is ticked.
Then you can go back the original rom you was on without a pit and without re-partition ticked.
Make sure you do all them steps
Hope this has helped!

I had this issue when flashing from JL2 to another
- some of your partitions got messed, first boot odin, put your phone into download mode and make sure odin see's it. Select JL2 in the PDA secion and click the phone boot loader update
- after it's flashed, find the speedmod from hardcore on xda and flash that, also in the pda part, make sure everything else is default so it's best to close odin and reopen it
- after you have the speed mod on you should be able to get back into recovery.
- almost there, flash the stock 2.1 on your phone this has some data that no other rom has, once you flash that you can flash JL2 over top once again and you should be good to go
- msg me if you have issues
is this issue still on ongoing?
try this (if you haven't tried it before):
1. Launch Odin
2. Put the necessary stock firmware + PIT file that goes with it
3. tick re-partition (not sure what partition you are currently in so that's why I'm suggesting repartition)
4. Go into DL mode and plug the phone in via USB
5. Flash it
6. Once done, go flash hardcore's latest speedmod kernel via Odin again
7. Go to cwm recovery (hardcore's speedmod will give you this)
8. wipe partition cache+factory reset + clear dalvik cache
9. reboot system (will take a several minutes to boot out of the Galaxy S screen)
10. Hopefully your problem is solved.
11. If my method worked for you, PM me. I'll ask you to give that $20 to a local charity of my choice. Street kids needs some love too in the new year
Had this problem yesterday. I wrote in this post how to fix it. Looks like similar advice to what others are telling you.

this will work for sure..
download jpu from here http://hotfile.com/dl/88094739/f5545cc/I9000XXJPU.exe.html
after self extract
put the phone on download mode
open odin
select the files (pda, csc, pit )
check repartation , reboot , reset time

PS. If I could help I would but you have me stumped.

it just loops to 3e recovery. I cand send adb reboot download and it still goes back to recovery with the error:

I found the thread on how to fix that issue, but it requires getting into DL mode which I can't because I dont have the 3 button combos. I can access the device through adb though.
I requested deletion on the other thread, my main goal is to see if I can get the bootloaders back on somehow.
Well, I guess I'm just screwed.. bummer guess jtag is the only thing thats gonna save my ass.

Try going to DL mode by this method....Remove battery->Hold VOl UP+DOWN-> insert usb cord -> now insert battery. Now flash using odin. This worked for me when I was in similar situation. The fact that you can see recovery means that your bootloaders are not totaly F'ked up.
Isn't there an option for formatting sd in CM? And an option for mounting as well?
I agree on the jig and Odin one click back to jf6. Jtag is for hard bricks. You just need to force download to get back to stock bootloaders.

the only thing i can suggest is to try looking at adam oulters threads on non jtag recovery. he has a arduino board that can read the logs the phone is putting out and a jig to simulate a uart cable. somewhere in the videos he demonstrates forcing download. maybe a uart jig could help you instead of the other usb jig. or maybe some other piece of information can help. if not there is a chance he can push it into download mode with his rig if you send him the phone.
I'll just get a warranty replacement then I guess, just sucks to be phone-less in the meantime. Thanks to all who tried to help, and suggestions are still welcomed if maybe a dev wants to chime in. Gonna check out AdamO's thread.
I had this happen to me.....was this on gingerbread or froyo bootloaders?
I had a stroke of luck when my 3 button combo worked for my bricked gingerbread loader captivate yesterday

His solution seems to have been a replacement..

[Q] Sprint GTab bricked - Stuck at Samsung logo

Hello everyone,
I've been having a really bad time with my Spring GTab in the last few days... to keep it simple:
1. Had a stock GTab that was showing problems, most of the applications were crashing (force closed), but it was still usable after a reboot. On one of those reboots it did not came up any more and got stuck at the Samsung logo.
2. After researching on the forums, tried to install 2.3.3 following this procedure:
http://androidadvices.com/how-to-update-samsung-galaxy-tab-to-stable-gingerbread-2-3-3-firmware/
Odin successfully installed the ROM, got to recovery mode and tried to factory/clear cache. Showed errors... Stuck at Samsung logo again.
3. Tried to install the stock sprint EA24 following these steps:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1009926
No matter what I do, Odin stops at recovery.bin and fails.
4. Following the suggestions there I then installed nomodem EJ30 successfully, but again got stuck at samsung logo. Tried to install the EA24 from there with no luck, still failing at recovery.bin.
So as of now, I am at the same point as at the beginning, stuck at the Samsung logo...
Guys this is driving me crazy... any help will be highly appreciated!!!!!!

almost dead phone, can only get into download mode

hey,
i haven't used my samsung gt i9000 in a while and i just went back to use it. while charging it, all i get it is something that looks like a spinning cursor that just blinks on the screen. i don't remember if that is normal or not.
anyway, when i unplug it from charging, the logo screen starts but then it blinks back to black and then back to the logo screen and that continues for ever.
i can get into the down+power+home button screen (download, do not turn off device with construction android dude) and i'm wondering if there's anyway to fix this or maybe tell me what's going on.
also, i was wondering if there was anyway to start from scratch in terms of flashing that i've done before. to wipe everything and start loading up things from the start. i don't remember anything i've done with this phone from before so that's why
THANKS
You could try flashing a stock rom through odin
Sent from my SGH-T959V using XDA App
so i did that, loaded 2.3.4 gingerbread using odin. odin said it passed it rebooted.
a few things i noticed right off the bat: the battery charging symbol is working properly now with a battery loading up and little dots under that scrolling through. however, i'm still having the problem where it loads up, goes to the samsung galaxy s gt i9000 logo loading screen (like before) and then it just sits there for a bit (10-15 seconds) and finally restarts. it keeps looping through that.
any ideas?
Try odoning froyo

I'd suggest flashing jm9 eclair - it's fixed any issues i've ever had, some of which have been MAJOR! You can grab it from samfirmware
Good luck. let us know how it goes.

E:copy_dbdata_media:Can't mount SDCARD:
your storage not prepared ye. Pleas use UI menu for format and reboot actions.
copy deault media content failed.
i tried to update using update.zip or something like that and it gives the same error but instead it says there's a problem with the zip.
any ideas? just to make sure, i have the samsung galaxy s gt i9000 (Canada)

First I hope you had ensured that it was actually an M110S and not another variation of i9000
yes, Korean phones always have everything in Korean, but once having a boot-able ROM, you can use settings menu to change to English. which repair kit did you use? , as long as its in download mode you should be able to flash again, either with Odin3 or heimdall. also what stage of flashing did you complete .
just flash again but make sure you have ample battery charge, as power failure or pulling out usb connection can break the bootloader and you will have a big headache , hard bricking it and only a technician with JTAG can recover it.

Ok, when you complete first stage does your phone boot up using the Eclair ROM? I normal circumstances it should? you say you completed all four stages, , was the flashing completed as successful in ODin3 and your phone rebooted into download mode?
If so try and check your USB port on your phone if you have any lint or anything that may be shorting them and did this phone got in contact with water?
cause what you say is rather strange for any unit as a successful flash can endup in some sort of boot process and never into download mode.

Firstly I flashed all the files through heimdall in ubuntu not Odin3.
And at no stage it returned any error. At the first stage the download mode was in english on the phone, it had a yellow triangle and below it was saying "downloading" after I flashed the korean .pit file the phone rebooted back into download mode but the text below the yellow triangle was now in korean. After every flash the phone returned into download mode.
I checked as you said, the problem is before I knew the "Home + Power" button combo to access the download mode the phone booted to Samsung screen and hung there and now it goes no where except the korean download mode.
Deleted!
Okay I've figured out the problem with my phone.
When I was on the first stage when I entered the m110.pit file along with the PDA file. The PDA file had a movinand.mst file, while flashing with odin3 it got stuck on the movinand.mst part and remained stuck forever so I plugged out and restarted in download mode.
I did some googling and found out that this problem is related to internal memory damage or corruption or something like that.
Anyway I finally found out a GB file on some forum I don't remember and flashed it over my galaxy S and it kind of worked. When the phone is powered on it goes to the 'samsung anycall' screen and stays there for a while and at the bottom of the screen comes a progress bar, when it goes full the bootanimation comes up and the phone boots into the ROM. Now the problem is there is no internal memory so no apps are downloaded plus whenever I restart the phone it comes to that samsung anycall screen with the progress bar and then the bootanimation but the phone starts as if it were new, like the initial setup accounts and all and also reverted back to korean language. Is there anyway to fix the internal memory problem or any alternative?
Thanks once again for helping me out this much.
Can you tell me what actually is written under your battery ? as what you are indicating about this units behavior is rather strange and have not come across this on an M110S, and mind you I have help a lot of people to solve their problems on M110S units and tens of thousands had downloaded the repair kit from my upload site. Why I am asking is because I am in doubt as to what is your model? is it an M110S, or i9000 variation or a chinese clone?
this must be cleared , in order to get your phone functioning as remedies for it will vary
Hey. Now I tried flashing with odin3 and here's what happened:
1. After the first stage it should boot into eclair but instead samsung anycall screen comes up and then it goes into recovery with the following output:
E: can't mount /dev/block/st111 (invalid Argument)
# MANUAL MODE #
E: can't mount /dev/block/st111 (invalid Argument)
E: can't mount /dev/block/st111 (invalid Argument)
ok this means you have a cache partition problem , meaning stl11 is the cache partition that is not mounting as such you cannot boot, so lets try this ( remove external SD card, sim card etc and Flash the cache.rfs as below..flash it twice and let me know the result.
Problem:- Getting this when you boot
E:format_volume: rfs format failed on /dev/block/stl11
Solution:- Flash a cache.rfs file meant for your model as PDA with Odin. For i9000 i9000 cache.rfs file, For M110S M110s Cache.rfs
or Flash a Rescue Kit from My Android Collections

well, when you get a problem like above, there is no way it can boot until it is resolved, but its has booted into recovery, that is what it should do, not go into download mode.
3. When I press the power button only it goes to the samsung anycall screen and then same happens what i described in 1.
Suggest you flash the cache.rfs for M110S, see if it solves it, If not repeat stage 1 again using the repair kit with the PIT and repartition TICKED using Odin3 see what happens.

The back of my phone behind the battery reads:
MODELO: GT-i9000
FCC ID: A3LGTI9000
SSN: I9000T GSMH
I think its a M110S.
The cache problem is over. I told that in my previous post.

The scam artists who have converted M110S to i9000 use I9000GSMH and will not indicate the FCC or SSN
yours says its an i9000T and there is such a model, look http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/Samsung_Galaxy_S/GT-I9000T
so best to check your IMEI number , follow this link to identify your model
anyway so long as your phone works its not a serious problem, but wrong ROMs can give you differing problems so ensure your unit is M110S before using solutions in PIT STOP

The IMEI site says my IP is blocked. I tried proxying but still doesn't give me the result.
What about the internal memory problem? And sd-card not reading!!
How do I solve that?

ok, the ROM you had flashed is obsolete, you nee to flash WF07 ( download link in PIT STOP) but before you do that, go into settings>storage and erase SD card, and Format where possible also you must follow the instruction given in flashing guide ( First post concerning repair kit) to the dot, meaning you need to factory reset (settings >privacy) as well as wipe everything and format everything prior to flashing WF07 and also wipe again after flashing.
Only after this you should look at other problems ( Internal SD card)
Its also best to USE the repair kit again and after flashing Ist stage , flash the WF07 ROM ( its the best ROM for the M110S)
