Dropped my phone, i think vibration is gone - Galaxy S I9000 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
So my sgs was charging got entangled in some wires, and fell on the ground. Since then it doesn't vibrate any longer.
Any other solutions other than taking it for repair? I not on the rom that it came with and i'm pretty scared about flashing it back.
I'm on jpy 2.2.1 and the original rom was 2.2 from vodafone portugal (which i don't have).
Thanks for any help you can give me.
Sent from my GT-I9000

if this only happened when the phone dropped, its most likely hardware problem.
is the JPY 2.2.1 you are running now stock ??
dont worry about getting the phone back to original firmware, as long as the phone has stock firmware you should be fine.

Have the same issue, dropped it ( from a very low height ) and the vibrator seems dead.
Taking it in for repairs tomorrow, hoping they'll do it under the warranty, otherwise I don't expect it to be too expensive, a quick checkup has vibrator units in 50 packs for $50 online.
Will post here once I get it back ( it'll take a week and a half, they say ) with feedback if I remember to.

Thanks for the reply,
and i didn't notice right away but seems to me that the fall was responsible.
I have the rom completely stock, but i rooted it with superoneclick.
The aplication has an unroot option, is it safe?
Also the CSC is KOR, i'm portuguese won't this raise any red flags?
It might seem stupid but this is the only good phone that i ever had and my dad would kill me if when i got to the store they wouldn't accept it for repair because i flashed the phone.
Thank you in advance.
Edit: bullzeye.za.
mine was from a low height as well. :s did you had the phone rooted or flashed a different rom on it?
I would really like the feedback, thank you

Have mine running 2.3.3 JVK
Flashing it to stock before it goes in, ofcourse.
Sent from my GT-I9000

Undo root and delete root apps as root breaks warranty .
But it would be worth trying a factory reset first .
jje

thanks for the replies,
i'm going to prepare things for a flash to send the phone for repairs.
But before flashing i will do the factory reset suggested
TY
Edit:
Could someone tell me how to flash 2.2 rom on my phone? With all the details, i'm afraid of bricking my phone any insight?
And what precautions should i take?
thank you

Flash it to any 2.2 ROM with ODIN, try and find one with the base system files included, the ROM should be 250mb+ if it does.
THey're repairing mine under warranty, should have it back today or Thursday.

Done, returned it today.
Best of luck with yours, i hope everything works out for mine too.

Sorry for the late reply
Got my phone back on Thursday ( Wednesday was a public holiday ) so it was only 16 business hours that I was without my phone.
Working better than new now, the only think I worry about is that the vibrator seems to have an "echo" as if it's not secured completely.
Oh well, it just makes the vibrations easier to notice.

Well, i think it's all good.
The phone just got back from repairs, it's at the store, i'll pick it up tomorrow.
If i find anything strange i'll post a reply.
Thank you all for the help.

How nasty are HTC? (with ROM flashing invalidating the warranty)

Hi Guys,
Was just hoping for some feedback - has anyone tried getting HTC to warranty repair a phone that does not have all the original roms on it?
I need to send mine back for what is clearly a damaged / faulty mini USB port and have managed to restore the original Radio / OS and splash (by using microSD card) but am unable to downgrade the H-SPL 3.56 to the original because the process requires the USB connection.
Any experiences that you have with this kind of thing may be a good indication to the response I and many others may get...
Thank you in advance

The problem with the steps above are that you cannot flash an SPL using anything other than USB.

The problem is: he has Hard SPL on not the OEM SPL and without USB you cannot flash a new SPL.
The question still stands.
I have read threads before of people returning phones with new SPL's and getting away with it, but I think thats ATT.
Also, I think this would be better in the Kaiser General Forum in future (or if any mods want to move it).
Thanks
Dave
My bad, thanks for correction. News to me! I'd like to see how this plays out, too.
I always sent my device with modded spl, no problems yet (germany)
Had the same problem (faulty usb-connector). Sent my device for repair, with custom rom and hardspl on it. 3 Days later it came back repaired. No fuss about the rom or anything.
a friend sent his touch to htc for repair with non-stock spl. came back 3 weeks later and was repaired (germany)
IMHO, if still using custom ROM, it's very noticeable to the service guy, different layouts, apps, settings. But if you've revert to stock ROM, the hardspl would be barely noticed.
I sent my JasJam (Hermes) with original ROM but HardSPL'd, and they didn't noticed. At least, they didnt ask. =)
It's my understanding from the ATT rep that services our corporate account that the chances are pretty slim that they'd notice or give you any grief over a boot loader. It's just not something that's checked. In fact, chances are pretty slim they'll even notice a different rom either in most cases as they just don't troubleshoot at that level often, but I wouldn't take that chance.
According to our rep, for the most part they just replace the phone, rather than repair it, and then fix/reflash the phone you turn in and sell it as a refurb.
YMMV depending on your carrier, of course, but that's what our ATT guy told me when I expressed concern about my own phone.
peace,
Aielman
Just wondering how much people paid to have their usb ports fixed from HTC? Got a refurb from AT&T and my port broke right after the 30 warranty expired...
returning a tilt with broken USB in NYC
hey all,
i returned my tilt at the ATT warranty center in NYC three weeks ago.
they tried plugging in the USB, saw it didn't work, brought out a refurb (which was in very good condition, although you keep your battery and stylus) and that was that. as USB was broken i could not flash back to stock and had to take my chances. as of now, no issues with new phone or charge on my att or cc bill for new phone (b/c of a warranty breach).
so in my case, all good. always be polite and patient with the service folk.
they are there to help but not to be messed with.
as of now, i am not reflashing my tilt until after the official ROM is released.
once thats released for TILTs and new ROMs for TILTs have been cooked I'll think about it again. i had been using Dutty 4/29 and L26v9.
and in general it was fine. other ROMs always left me with unacceptable freeze issues. i have installed almost all of what I want with CABs and since I have done that my phone is faster and more stable than it was with cooked ROMs.
hope that helps.
michael
Thank you all for your replies... I am dealing with HTC directly in UK. I will let you know how I get on with my non-original SPL.
(If I remember and am not overly distracted with belated joy or depression).
Just to let you folks know, HTC fixed it (replaced main board).
Obviously now on stock rom (need to unlock again bah!).
Was hoping for updated ROM, but didn't get it DOUBLE BAH!

[Q] Internal and External SD not mounting i9000m

Hey guys,
My external and internal sd cards arent mounting, I was running JPK just fine with OCLF, but then it froze on me. After the freeze, it wouldn't load past the Flashing S logo.
And now, It wont boot into JPK at all no matter how many times I flash or which PIT i use.
So I flashed back to UGJG8 and now its telling me mounting point incorrect.
How do I fix this?
Thanks in advance.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but your phone is bricked. There is no way to fix this. Your only option is to send the phone back to Bell/Samsung for a mainboard replacement. (I just received mine back yesterday for the exact same issue)
I do, however, suggest you flash back to UGJH2 prior to sending the phone in for repair so they cannot tell that you were flashing unofficial firmware.
Haha wow, that really sucks. Thing is, I dont have warranty at all. I bought this from some guy off craigslist. Great, anyway i could send this in for repairs without receipt?
well actually when i flash UGJG8, i can still use the phone, just Sd cards aren't working.
same error popped up on my stock phone, no matter what I did there was no way to recover the issue, formating, reseting or anything. (the phone did not have 3 button recovery anyways). I sent mine in on monday, hoping to get it back soon.

A copy of the original sales receipt is required for repair
ahh this sucks, would i be able to pay for the repair? the phone is totally working, except for the mounting, ill use it as is for now i guess. unless anyone from toronto is willing to lend me their sales receipt.
damn JPK and losing 850 band. made me brick

The sales receipt has the IMEI listed on it. So no luck there either...
Check your PM's.
Looks like I'm also in the same boat...no external or internal SD after trying to do a Clockwork Recovery with new JH2 (with 3 button recovery enabled) and Voodoo lagfix
For a while, it was only the external SD card that wouldn't work, now the internal isn't detected anymore
My phone is still functional (calls, sms, browsing, ...) but I'm past my 30 days for a return
Should I try to reflash with Odin ?
I'm afraid it won't fix the SD card problem, and i'll just lose my data/sms and be back to stock firmware with no root
Samsung has extended then warranty DOA too 60 days, digg out your receit and thae itslick too then store
Sent from my GT-I9000M using XDA App
Tried calling my local Best Buys and Samsung Canada to see if they knew about the warranty extension to 60 days but none of them did...
Do I need to go to Bell since I'm actually a Rogers customer?
if they say they don't know, then they are BSing you
because all the Bell stores in Toronto knows it and are doing the xchange if they have inventory, if not you just go into waiting list or repair
Same thing happened to me tonight, regretfully. I was actually pretty stressed trying to flash different firmwares in Odin to get it to work again. Some wouldn't boot, and any that would gave me the error about the internal and external sd cards. Good thing is, since I bought it from Best Buy, I got their replacement warranty where if something is wrong with the phone I just show them and they give me a new one. I suppose it doesn't hurt that I was able to flash back to JH2. Either way, I'll be waiting for official froyo before I start screwing around again.
new galaxy s i9000 user here, have had the phone a couple weeks, didnt do anything to the phone at all in terms of messing with firmware or anything like that, yet i got the same problem. And like a couple others, i bought the phone off craigslist. Im gonna try reflashing the firmware but other than that, what are my options?
craigslist is not exactly the best place to buy a phone
did you get the invoice?
you will need an invoice for the warranty
hey guys, i'ev been trying to do a DOA replacement but im a rogers customer im having trouble doing the exchange anywhere in toronto. I bought it from craigslist and he bought it in St. Catherines. Is there anyway i can get this repaired or replaced in toronto?

and about two week later the phone died (got the sdcard not mounting problem).
Fearing I had voided my warranty I carefully asked some questions to the Bell store guy without revealing what i had done. He eventually told me that if you unlocked your phone any other way then through the official samsung channels then they send a KILL SWITCH SIGNAL too turn off your phone.
Is this for real or just some bull****, do the BELL versions of the SGS have a KILL SWITCH?
The Bell guy also told me that they could exchange my phone under the 60 DOA agreement, but they would send the old one to samsung and if they detected that I had done anything like rooting/rom changing etc. then there would be a 500 CHARGE TO MY CREDIT CARD, and he told me that it already happened to someone and that someone was trying to fight it.
So fearing being charged 500$ I tryed just about every fix that is on XDA forums now my phone is so ****ed up that I cant even get into download or recovery mode (which i could before).
My question is has anybody been charged the 500$ without their consent?
And for all those who have been modding and bricking their Bell SGS phones did you get any problems from when you went to send them in or exchange them?
I was also told by the Bell guy that samsung could send a signal to turn the phone back on?
I don't know what to think anymore, I just want my phone working again and I am considering doing some actual destruction to the phone (like giving it a power surge) so that they wont bother checking to see if it was modded and just send me a new one.
Could all those people out there who have sent in for repairs or had their Bell SGS exchaged, please let me know their experiences.
Thanks.

[Q] Hard bricked my tablet and some questions

Hi all. First of all, I come here because I hard bricked my tablet (I did some research on some brick terminology.) I have some questions at the end of this thread, to satisfy my curiosity.
I misunderstood instructions and bricked my tablet. I barely had it two months. The instructions I spoke of where to install CM7 beta on my tablet (instructions here).
I downloaded and installed the files, then used heidmall to flash it. After the flash, heidmall said it was sucsessful. The problem was that it was hard bricked. No response to any button I pressed. I went on the Cyanogenmod forums and asked some questions. One of the users asked what the carrier was.. Verizon Wireless, I answered him. He said it wont boot up because I flashed a rom with a different radio or something (I dont remember all the details).
One of my questions is that, yes I did root my devices prior bricking it (voiding it.) If I send it to Samsung to get it repaired, will they be able to tell that I did root it? I did not install any roms on it (yet) or tried to overclock it; only thing I really did to use the root access was to use the wireless tether (just once). I know over clocking can make the device over heat and that leaves evidence on the motherboard, from what I read, thirdparty software. I have seen some videos about fixing bricked tablets using a program called JTAG to fix the boot-loaders. If Samsung are able to fix it, will they be able to see that it is rooted or was?
My primary question is that, can Samsung fix my device when I send it in, regarding the radio. Or will they fix it because it is rooted, or if they can't tell if it is.
I ask the evidence of the rooted device because last year, my Motorola Droid got overheated and I had to send it in to get it replaced. That device was rooted and had CM6 installed on it. I sbf'd it back to original stock and Verizon didn't contact me, so I am assuming they can't tell that it was rooted.
Another question. If Samsung does decide to repair my tablet, how much would that cost? And if they do find out it is rooted and they ask me if I wanted it fixed, how much would that cost? Estimated prices would be appreciated as well.
Another question. I have been browsing around and I found some supposedly reliable people who can fix my tablet. MobileTechVideos to be specific. I am not questioning their authenticity anything. I am wandering if I should send my tablet to them to fix it instead of Samsung. Because I am wondering if Samsung would charge me up the whoohoo to get it repaired.
I know my questions are many and seemed jumbled together. But I am curious.
answers
1- as i'm sure you were on froyo - did you patch the bootloader patch ? if not , then this is what caused the hard bricked
2- samsung will not know if you were rooted your tab , actually they will know because most of people go there with this specific issue because they flashed roms\kernels Unofficial
3- if you still under warranty they will fix it for you (for free) without any cost , all you need is a drama ( i updated via kies and then my tab off and never wont boot again ) it works 100%
4- as i heard MobileTechVideo are trusted people and they fixed alot of tabs
if you still under warranty send it to Samsung with the drama i just mentioned above and they will fix it in( a month or 3 weeks) for free
please from now on , do read guides carefully we all humans and we may miss something or do some mistakes , batter to be careful more than to be sorry
good luck
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1127978
Yeah, I heard Mobile Tech do great job with only $50 dolar payment. You should let them fixed it for you..or
I'm not 100% sure, but there is 10 or 20% sammy can detect it is rooted. BUT if you already decide to send to sammy, better you make sure your tab is totally hard brick so that sammy could't detect it rooted at all. Ex:- put your tab inside microwave. I heard some person on HD2 forum do this and they manage to get brand new replacement of HD2. ;P..Just my suggestion.
haha..BUT read on this xda forum first. Do search until you are satistify your tab is screw up and totally hard brick and could not solve by you before you take my consideration..
You voided your warranty if you rooted it. Samsung will charge you to repair it because they will know. They will charge more than mobile tech, I promise. 130 from samsung is about right, 50 from tech.
You flashed a GSM rom into a CDMA device, so if you do get it repaired I recommend a lot of reading before you try again.

Just say it stop working , they won't know it's rooted i did the same thing and got mine replaced for free you got a year warranty.

To reply to all above questions.
1. My tablet is completely hard bricked. No response to any hard reset or download mode. The screen bares no response to anything. I can feel some heat from the battery inside, just saying.
2. Microwaving my tablet seems a bit crazy. I might blow up my microwave and I have a feeling that would damage it to where Samsung will not replace it.
3. "You flashed a GSM rom into a CDMA device, so if you do get it repaired I recommend a lot of reading before you try again." Yes I know. I always thought that I could flash it back to fix it. But I can't even get to download mode.
It seems that I got some response that 'No Samsung will not find out its rooted', or 'Yes, they will find out I rooted it and will charge me." I will send it in to Samsung to get it repaired and tell the outcome here.
Hi ripjaw27!
any update on what Samsung said ?
I need to call them tomorrow!
Ofiaich
The Mobile Tech Video guys are very good. They resurrected by captivate when flashed the wrong bootloaders on it. Very fast turn around time and no BS whatsoever. I highly recommend them if you need JTAG services for any device. In the extremely rare event that he cant fix it he'll send the device back no charge - all you're out is shipping.
CDMA and GSM roms can't be used on the opposing devices... The wifi only version, gt - p1010, also shouldn't be flashed. You WILL end up with a brick, guaranteed... Fair enough you want to try these thingsa BUT theres a reason each rom is identified as GSM or CDMA....
They received my tablet, its been a week. But I haven't received any news from them. The ticket page they sent me still doesn't have a estimated repair date. So no updates as of yet.
I'd take down the repair invoice for a device you've admitted to bricking, friend. Just sayin...

Just remembered what happened in a movie I saw.
Just for the records: Got my Hardbricked GTab repaired via T-Mo UK under warranty. Apparently they cannot check whether this has been flashed or not...
I think I might have to send my tablet back again. This time my 3G is not working after a few flashes and flashed a zimage to the modem and I bricked the modem now.... I have to find a stock firmware before I send it back. I am sad.
Ripjaw check your settings in > settings > wireless network > mobile network > names and connections and add your carrier UMTS - 3G \APN settings.
I did had the same when i flashed my GT-P1000, it is empty no default carrier settings build in..
OK mate, the 1st they'll repair under good graces but if you go back with the same or a similar problem, chances are they're going to look closer for the problem this time...

[Q] GPU Dead?

Here is my issue, my captivate was hard bricked and I was able to perform the unbrickable mod on my phone successfully. It worked the first time with no issues. I flashed a fresh ROM to my phone and all was well, it played all of the games that it always did, the screen looked just as good as it did when it was new. Then one day while playing a game, the screen changed and now it looks like it is in negative mode...(yellow is orange, white is almost purple) kind of like the colors are all reversed. Plus when even attempting to play a game it is a slow crawl. Is there anything I can try or has anyone else seen this issue? I have already used Odin and went back to 2.1 stock and did a master clear, but the issue still exists.
Can anyone help?
broken. if it is under 1 year old send back for warranty now that you flashed to stock. if not... bummer. try to order a new main board.
Yeah this is my original captivate that I bought in August of 2010...so it is way far out of warranty. I will do some searching to see how much a main board would cost me. If its more than $50, I will just sell it for parts. Thanks for the help though!

You might still wanna contact ATT/Samsung for a replacement. I remember that I was able to replace my old Samsung Impression (touchwiz, no android) even though it was way out of warranty (like 6 months out). ATT may not replace it, so definitely call Samsung...
Wouldn't warranty be voided with unbrickable mod?

Help, milestone going mad

Guys
My milestone (A853) is giving problems. Every now & then, the screen is automatically pressed..mostly on the left hand side I think. What could the problem be? Is there pressure on the screen (which in my opinion should't activate button presses, but I'm not sure).
What should I do? Should I take it back to my service provider or is there something else that can be done? It's still on contract, so I can take it back, but, ithey won't be able to give me the Milestone again...meaning they must service it...and they probably would cause more harm. And since it doesn't do it all the time, they might not do anything...or they will be stupid and just flash the stock rom over again. Or they would surprise me - you can never tell. I stay in South Africa....
So now if I should take it back, I will need help. I need to get it back to stock...what's the best (I'm on Cyanogenmod 7). Please assist. I work thr whole week, so iif I should tqake it back, I must do it on a weekend...i.e. tomorrow, otherwise only next week.
Please assist.

your digitizer is dying, i have the same problem, replacing it is the only solution i found so far.
you can find a replacement on ebay with the tools for about 20$ if you want do it on your own. if you still on contract the should do it for free because it's a common problem on the milestone.
[HOW-TO] Get your Milestone back to stock this should help you getting back to stock
Thanks, I will try flashing it back to stock - although the file might not be correct, but I'm just taking the "Africa" sbf for 2.2.1.
I will take it in tomorrow. So far today the phone has been fine though.
Thanks for the help.
PS. did you replace your digitizer?
not yet, but i will have to do it one day
my problem is that the back button gets "pressed" kinda annoying
