[Q] Drunk G1 turns itself off - G1 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi fellas, long time no see!
So, first of all, yes, I've used the search, but what I've found is threads about wet phones, mine I believe is already dry.
Situation: I'm in the club, glass of absolut and redbull in my hand, phone in my jeans pocket, extra glass of absolut w/redbull on the bar next to me. Fat drunk aproaches the bar and tips my glass with his elbow, all my drink spilled over my clothes. After a brief discussion I realized the guy was too drunk and was a worthless douche so I let it go. I reach for my phone and realize my pocket is soaked wet, when I take it out, phone is out, red light dim. So I turn it off, take it apart and forget about it til the next day. Next day, it began to turn on, but shut itslef off after a few secs, so I take it apart again (that is back cover, battery, SIM and sd, I dont have the screwdrivers to go further), cleaned what I could with alcohol, let it vent in front of a fan for a few hours, then in a bowl of rice for 2 days, no good.
So I got an extra phone and let it sit for more than a month. The other day I decided to give it another try and voila! it worked, had to be dry by now! used it for a day, left it charging, when I came back, it was off again, unresponsive. I have an extra battery, so I got one of those universal battery chargers, because I though the problem could be the phone not charging the battery. It was (even when the light turns on red and it says charging and all). So, first weird thing, light turns on red, screen says charging, but USB wont wont actually charge the battery if it is somewhere below.. 70% maybe, it does charge if it is lets say about 80% or above.
I used it like this for a week or so, and now, when I turn it on, after the bootscreen and the initial loop, the phone now powers itself off (with the text "turning off" -or whatever it says- and vibrating and all), even with the battery full. Tried with both batteries full, plugged in the usb (the light is green when full, and will even charge), erased battery stats (recovery works fine) but the damn thing wont load android properly!
Any ideas what might be causing this? it should be dry by now (its been like 2 months already and I let it vent and used the rice method), it doesnt smell funny (you know, like burnt, like when sth short circuits).

btw, also tried flashing the ROM again (i always have a couple in the sd just in case) and didn't work neither, does exactly the same.
i know it is a bit long to read but i wanted to give you the most insight i could. i know that it works! it did a couple days ago, but something got screwed with the startup and i dont know what it is!

i see that u tried flashing the ROM again, but just to be sure u did do a super wipe correct?
this is very strange though, and yeah it should be dried by now.

Thanks for the reply, and yes, I did! I'm sure that is not the problem :/

Hd7 randomly wont wake up

I have an hd7 tmous, and this problem has persisted on the original rom, and the official nodo, both locked and unlocked. Phone will work fine, run it all day, then while I'm at work, phone in my back pocket, it won't wake up with any button, and I have to pull the battery. Only when its in my back pocket. Sometimes takes 5 minutes, sometimes a few hours. Front pocket takes more time. Any ideas? I thought about trying another radio. I have search xda and the net and can't find a solution. Got it used and have no warranty. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Also, on my days off, and the phone never goes in my pocket, no freezing. How odd. Sometimes its really warm, almost hot.....
I've had a similar problem but only when its been on charge a few hours. the lil green battery light stays lit but the phone wont respond unless I do a battery pull
Hmmm. Now that you mention it, every time it has done it, it was about 80+ % charged. Never done it on half charge. The green led that you mentioned doesn't behave as you said, but you gave me an idea- battery maybe? Gets hot, only does it when mostly charged, it makes sense.
I recreated the problem. Putting a fair amount of pressure on the bottom of the phone, just below the battery cover causes the screen to dim, keeps dimming, then the phone is off. Seems like a short. Gonna take it apart when I get home. Fun times, lmao.
SOLVED
I was right, it was a short. After a little process of elimination, I narrowed it down to the protector shield/heat sink that the SIM card/sd card cluster rest on. I pushed on the SIM card bracket, and it dies. I unplugged the cluster, left it on, same result. Removed the cluster and the shield it is stuck to (by adhesive), and it didn't die. Increased the pressure until my screen made funny colors, still didn't die. There is a heat sink pad and some amber "tape" that are on the underside of the shield, centralized around the CPU. The area I pressed on was on the opposite side of the cluster though. And, oddly, there was no protective amber "tape" on that area. I cut a piece of clear packing tape, made it just the right size to cover the area, and not overlap the amber side. I put the shield back together and the problem is gone. Turns out that when my phone was in my back pocket and I bent down for something, it would put pressure on the bottom of my phone and short it out. Considering the area of the short, I feel very lucky that my phone is still kicking. I am posting this to help anyone who might have a similar problem. I hope this helps. Easy to take apart, unlike the hd2
Thanks, xda, for without you and your awesome gathering of people, i would be lost...... And bored.

[Q] phone got wet?

well my phone got wet on the back with a case, then i took off the case it and the back which was all wet, the battery was wet to and so was under it, i took out the battery and dried every thing and it worked, everything did, the speakers and buttons. so later today the phone just shut off and wouldnt turn on. so i thought it died and i tried charging and just the light would flicker on the top left of the phone. so i put it in rice for about 5 hours and i put battery back on and now when i press the the power button. the screen just turns on like u can see light, just a black screen. then it goes away.
the battery has some green stuff on one of the gold things that conencts your batteries.
So i oredered another battery off of ebay, do you think that would fix it?
Thank you so much for reading this, just post your opinion on what happend.
It might did you try to clean off the green stuff sound like corrosion when water sits on copper.Hopefully a new battery works out for you.

[Q] Got my KFHD a little wet and a lot broken

Hello everybody
Today I had me a horribad accident and ended up spilling coffee on my KFHD7. at first it seemed fine once I wiped it down, which was within 5 seconds. Then it went into fastboot mode and stayed there, so I shut it off. I put it in some rice for a bit to try and suck any moisture out, but now I've tried it again and it won't turn on, or respond to normal charging. I plugged it in with my factory cable (thanks SkOrPn :good and the screen just started cycling different colors; red, blue, white, etc. so i shut it off and jammed it back into the rice. anyone have any advice, other than maybe give it a little while? I just got cm10.1 running like a charm, and I was lovin' this thing. thanks all for any help
update: thanks to the jump start from the factory cable, its turned on again, although its not ready for active use. i think a few more days in the rice is a good call, since i saw a bit of a water mark on the screen but yeah. i recommend rice in this situation to anybody

Problem with cool down mode.

well, my phone fell into the toilet yestedey, i pulled it out inmediatly, dried him, and turned it off. I waited 20 min and when i thought it was dry (yes, i now know that it was REALLY STUPID to do that) i turned it on, it booted normally and it works perfectly fine, but after 40-30 min, it enters in cool down mode. Thought it was because it still wasn't fully recovered so i turned it off and on again, but this time 5 min after it booted it entered in cool down mode.
After researching more, i put it in rice and left it all night, when i woke up i tried again, everything works fine, but it enters again in cool down mode in 40-30 min.
The phone doesn't overheat when it enters this mode, however i think it might be because some circuit enters in shock with residual water or is already damaged. My question is, how long should it be in rice ? and if the problem persist, i havel use alcohol to clean the components?
Try using a hair dryer on medium heat on the phone (heat the phone to approximately 40 centigrades by blowing warm air on it. This will generate evaporation and disipation of any water that is inside
the trick is to have the whole phone warmed up .. not just a little in one corner. The rice will absorb water, true, but not "large" quantities.

I waited all day and turned it on again, now this is interesting, the phone seems to be ok, but it entered cool down mode again, instead of turning it off i leave it on and waited, the battery was draining so i decided to charge it, it seems it can't charge from the usb. I turned it and connected the charger, everything normal, but instead of the normal battery metter it shows up an empty battery with an ? on it.
I know the battery is fine because the phone actually responds, but i'm afraid the usb port is damaged.
I connected it to my computer, it appears it has a false contact, my pc recognizes it, and the phone for a seconds shows the normal battery metter, but it goes to the empty ? again.
What should i do?
You have water in the protection circuit of the battery itself. That protection circuit is measuring constantly the battery parameters and currently is reading something wrong.
Al you can do is wait longer ...
If I were you, I would open the phone and dry it from the inside (I opened mine to change the bezel after a drop and it is quite easy). All you need is some precision screw driver set and some patience.

i decided to wait more, so i left it in rice these days. Now, i tried to turn it on, but it won't do nothing, i supposed it was the battery so i connected the charger and left it like 30 min. When i plug it to the charger, the green leed appears and it vibrates, but it doesn't do anything aside from that.
I might open the phone tomorrow and clean it with alcohol, then assemle it again and wait another hours before giving up, really thanks for helping and idiot like me.

You could have removed CoolDown mode *.apk from the system -- but it is risky since as said before something is being read to the system wrong in order to enter in that mode, could be an over current sensor in the SoC that triggers that (maybe by the lowered resistance by the residual water in the system). Good luck!
IT LIVES ! IT WORKS AGAIN !.
I cleaned it and now it works ! Thank you very much !. The only damage was made to the power button, now it's a little bit harder to turn on but i can live with that.
Relax!!
Bro Hard Reset your phone and relax. Keep calm you are not in trouble so please take it easy firstly hard reset your phone so it will be nice to your phone and you will not go in rice again. I hope you understand and give me a thanks on my post thank you very much hope you like it

[Q] Hardbricked handset whilst charging overnight

I've recently been experiencing some charging issues with the handset taking forever to charge, the latest charge was taking well over 15 minutes increase 1%. I tried various chargers, including a brand new original one (the one in the box).
Well, last night I put the phone on charge with the handset turned off around 2am, woke up around midday today and the handset was showing the green LED, so it was almost, or fully, charged. Went downstairs to have a cup of coffee and came back ten minutes later to find the LED off. Tried turning the phone on and nothing happened. Tried the reset combination and the red button under the SIM flap, nothing, tried connecting to SEUS, nothing. Tried connecting to Flashtool, nothing. I left the phone on charge for another hour and tried the same things again, nothing.
No lights, no vibrations, no screen activity. The phone isn't even getting warm like it normally does on charge (confirmed that with another charger)
My girlfriend said that whilst I was downstairs she did take it off charge and put it back on charge straight away when it wouldn't wake up BUT she wasn't sure if she put the charger back on the right way (the magnetic one) however the pins don't actually touch if the plug is the wrong way round as the pin towards the bottom of the phone is offset slightly so I don't believe it has shorted.
So great, my almost new Z1 is now a paperweight. Sony won't touch the handset as the back glass has a small crack in so they just spout off about water damage. The phone has never been near water, let alone in it.
C6903 on 757 firmware, bootloader relocked and non rooted. No nasty apps installed and basically running stock,
Anyone have any ideas? I'm resurrecting my old BB for the time being.
I bet its been shorted
Leave it on mains charger for 24 hours

That's what I'm thinking. The design of the dosk pins should prevent that, but apparently it doesn't!
As probably there is stripes to check if water was inside I will exclude that. Also the magnetic connector have his way to plug so is close to impossible to revert it, hardly if you try maybe it will, but I did many time and nothing happened. At last I think you girlfriend mess up with you phone and now she now don't remember because she knows you will be furious...LOL...
BTW, I will press Sony to take look at it. They don't have to replace the cracked glass, they have to check where is the problem.

As you say, none of the water indicators (if I'm actually looking in the right place) are a different colour to normal. The dock pin is offset to one side slightly, it can be seen if you look closely so you are right, it really shouldn't have damaged the handset.
She isn't even sure if she did plug it back in! She was half asleep so I don't know lol
Sony will be getting some nasty words in a letter if they fail to do anything. I don't care about the glass, it doesn't bother me, as long as the phone works,
