[Q] How to tell if my Galaxy Tab is a P1000 - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

From looking around it looks like the GSM is the P1000, but not %100. I have a Verizon Tab, and i'm wondering what my number is for updates, rooting, etc.
Thanks in advance.

Thanks. So i guess that means the Verizon Tab is a SCH-I800.

[Q] ATT Galaxy Tab in Argentina

OK, so long story short. I have a client who bought 4 tabs. 2 UK GT-P1000 and 2 US ATT. He was told by another service provider that the GT-P1000's would not work in the states, so he bought 2 ATT Tabs. He lives in states part time and in Argentina the rest of the time. So he wanted me to make the ATT tabs have the phone (which he had seen on the UK GT-p1000) functionality, which I did using rotohammer's original method with Odin. I flashed the Russian and then Euro versions and then added the bell Modem. My client only had an ATT sim card with data only, so he dumped his tab contract (and paid the fees) and picked up a cheap blackberry with phone and data plan. We used this sim in the tab and he was very happy here in the states. He has now returned to Argentina and is not able to use the tab using the ATT Sim card. Can anybody point me in the right direction. Is the bell modem the wrong one? Is there a certain provider that he would be better using? Any help appreciated.
Can he use a Movistar sim? They are throughout South America. They are the same as at&t, so the bell modem would be a good bet.
That was my recomendation to his IT guy in Argentina yesterday. Anybody else know any more info. I was actually thinking the movistar tab was way cooler than the ATT with it's sat tv capability.
I agree. Movistar is good down there and you can add credits easily. That tab is very expensive!

So I'm writing a tutorial using RotoHammers Thread on unlocking
LINKhttp://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=843323 - How to carrier/SIM unlock the Galaxy Tab
I am having him install titanium, astro and a custom gcript.apk that will allow the tech to install the custom apk using titanium and then have him back up the tab completely using clockworkmod (rotos custom, pre installe here in states) then some scripts in gscript that will run the /efs backup and the another to run rotohammers adb commands from that thread. (I hope that this all works)
The I have to have him pull the APN settings ( anybody know where these are so I can write a script of adb commands to back them up) and have him test the tab and correct the apn settings if they are wrong. Still have to find the Movistar APN settings for Argentina as well.
Thanks.
You are exactly right. In wireless settings make sure roaming is off or you will burn through your credits.
Here is your apn:

dude, you should get that tab unlocked and use an Argentinian SIM when he's there and then when he comes back to the states he can plug in the ATT SIM, problem solved.
Check the date - your advise is 3 months too late! Thanks anyway.

Need Help - Galaxy Tab

I need help with a Galaxy Tab that a friend of mine has.
She has purchased a Galaxy Tab from Telstra and it is Next-G capable. However she wants to be able to use her Optus SIM card (she does not like Telstra). She got the unlocking code but something went wrong and now the Galaxy Tab isn't registering any SIM card.
I was wondering if someone could kindly point me in the right direction in perhaps rooting the phone and installing a custom firmware (or perhaps a firmware which pre-unlocks the phone to use any SIM card).
I am fairly familiar with flashing as I've done it a lot on my Galaxy S, however I'm finding it difficult to find the right steps on how to do it with the Galaxy Tab.
So, could someone please provide a helpful link? or point me in the right direction, would be a great help as I should be able to do the rest myself.
EDIT: Perhaps the information below may be helpful
Model Number: GT-P1000T
Firmware version: 2.2
Baseband Version: P1000TDVJJ3
Kernal Version: 2.6.32.9 - [email protected] #1
Build Number: FROYO.DVJJ3
have a look here regarding the "debranding" of your device ! http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1000132 . i hope it help !
Thank you very much, will have a read as soon as I get back from a 12 hour shift
Two things....
1/- What 'went wrong' exactly? Can you provide a little more info? Also, curious as to what code you used to unlock and where you got it from? Reason I ask is there isnt much that can go wrong really. It either works, or it doesn't. It's possible the wrong bands are selected if no sim is registering. What band is the asterisk next to when you dial *#2263# ? Just set it to 'Automatic' if it's set to anything else.
2/- I'm not 100% sure, but I think the modem on the Telstra tab may be different. Yes, both Optus and Telstra are 3G GSM, but Telstra use the 850Mhz band for 3G. Optus/Vodafone use 900Mhz. Once unlocked, the Optus sim should register, and you'll get data from GSM, just won't get 3G out of it.
Can someone else that knows tell whether a 850Mhz 3G modem can be flashed to support 900Mhz, or is it built into the hardware?

I have been trying to do the reverse using non telstra GT-P1000 on 850mHz (nextG) an have come to the conclusion it wont work
Trying to go the way you are would just I thought require a modem flash maybe? and changing the settings to automatic as stated already
That said can anyone confirm GT-P1000T is the only model capable of umts 850mHz (ie. next G)
Basicly the tabs are at&t compatible or t-mobile compatible. There are a few odd network carriers out there that don't quite work on either st of frequencies.
Just set the wireless settings to automatic, check for correct apn values, and reboot and wait a few minutes. The tab is slow at connecting if you have a lot on your sd cards.
You can flash modems easily and find what works best.

[Q] Flashing cdma/gsm ROMs on Wifi tab

hey everybody,
I recently purchased a wifi only galaxy tab (GT-P1010) and was wondering if i could flash GSM/CDMA roms to it. Has anyone tried it? I was wondering because there are only honeycomb versions for cdma and gsm out. Thanks

[Q] sprint galaxy tab service

I have a sprint galaxy tab that someone had programmed to hook up with Boost Mobile. If I want to activate it with Sprint, is there any programming that I need to clear out/change before I activate it?

[Q] currnetly have a FROYO tab with phone enabled in the US, should I upgrade?

Hi all...
first off.. .the search is not working on the site so I was unable to search for this information.
I have a froyo galaxy tab with all the phone features enabled (edge data only though). I am in the U.S. and using a t-mobile tab on the Atnt network. All this works GREAT currently (though would love to have 3g and phone at the same time).
My question is can I upgrade to gingerbread or honeycomb (when it is released and no longer alpha) or will doing so remove my phone features?
Is there a modem firmware that allows 3g and phone at the same time yet?
no...not for Tmo tab on ATT especially....even Tmo tab on Tmo network you can't get voice and 3G at same time...only voice+2g or 3g only with modem switcher...we att tabs can get 3g and voice simultaneously tho...please search galaxy tab development section under Modems please
thanks DPAIK
I have modem switcher, but don't use it too much I just leave it on 2g+phone which works reliably... which is most important.
Anyone have an answer about potentially upgrading to gingerbread or Honeycomb with a tab that is in the U.S. and has the phone enabled?

I have an ATT tab on gingerbread and can confirm that voice and data work fine on the overcome ROM. It should be the same for the T-Mobile tab since they are both GSM based, however you still won't be able to get 3G service.

When you upgrade to gb the modem switcher will still work.
been on Overcome since the beginning...and it rocks...follow instructions on their thread to get it up and running...you need to flash the Stock European Gingerbread ROM first put you can download everything you need on the Overcome site...good luck
