[Q] Safe UV? - Galaxy Tab Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello people
Bought SetCPU so I could get batter battery life out of my tab. Then I realised that I don't know what the safe values for UV are, LOL. Does anyone here know?
Thanks,
Choc.

Safe UV?
Really? No one knows?

Remember to make a nandroid backup before you change anything. Just in case

is undervolting safe and does it save battery? worth it?

and most importantly how is it done?
84 veiws but nor responses? I thought this would be a hot topic seeing as its supposed to do wonders for battery life
Undervolting saves me battery life. And, more importantly, all you have to do is change your kernel - not that difficult.
Sent from my Nexus One using XDA App
do certain roms require certain kernels to function properly or are they independant? any risk bricking your phone?

I wouldn't go lower than 925mV kernels for the Nexus One.
Use a good kernel and a good ROM, and just by doing that, you're got better battery life. Oh, and never, ever, EVER, use a task killer. They're completely pointless.

Most ROM's have at least the stock kernel built in, but it's usually safe to flash any kernel on any ROM, so long as the OS matches.
Make a backup before you do anything. If you've got a working ROM, back a nandroid backup, then flash to your heart's content. If the phone decides not to boot, just yank the battery and then boot into recovery (hold trackball + power button) and restore your backup.
thanks for the help
are there any recommended kernels for cm6 rc2 right now? I'm looking to get the best battery life I can with out damaging my phone

Try the 925mV CFS 1113 Mhz kernel from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=693375
If you don't install setcpu it will stay at the stock 998 Mhz, so don't worry about overclocking if you don't want that.

kernel and rom pairing question

im on di11igafs 5.2 newest rom with Firebirds newest kernel flashed. I want to switch to SetrioNs kernel here for some good overclocking. I am unsure which to use and what the difference between his normal and XT versions are. i tried flashing the newest 1.6ghz XT SetrioNs but it freaked out my phone even in recovery menu after 20 seconds it would freeze up after about 20 seconds. Do i need to disable the lagfix in the recovery menu and or something else first? any help would be greatly appreciated . Thanks
Bryan
Your phone is not going to do 1600 no matter how hard you try.

Thats not what I asked about nor did I try to set it at 1.6 ghz. The phone wouldnt even boot long enough for me to change the voltage control settings. So I suppose i should rephrase my question so I dont get another answer like this one. I would like to use SetrioNs kernel, im using Firebirds kernel right now. Are there any steps i need to take in order to properly flash setrions kernel so that i dont have the problems I had previously?

Party pooper.
I know right? Woot woot.
Ok, sorry man. Honestly I would suggest downloading the Paragon rom and yanking the kernel out of that. It is much more up to date and allows oc.as high as 1.6. I have used that one without issue. Haven't tried setirons in quite a while so I don't know what may be going on.
Easiest way is to just put the rom zip in your sd card then use sgs kernel flashed app and select the rom zip. It will extract the kernel and flash it for you. Might want to disable lagfix first as sometimes problems occur when jumping back and forth between firebird and others.
Use voltage control 3.0 to control that kernel as well.

Ah! Thank You Thats exactly what i was looking for. I only have one question left. If i pull the kernel out of the rom will it be in .tar form? Thanks again
The kernel will be zimage. You can just copy that file straight to your sd card and the kernel flasher app will work with that as well.
Also it would seem that paragon is now using speedmods kernel. would you happen to be able upload the kernel you are using for me?
Give me a few.. have to get off the couch

you are lucky, usually they melt
What are you talking about here. I have my phone oc at 600Mhz and it works just fine. It is very stable and I have no issues with it.

[Q] I Can't Undervolt my phone!

I don't really know why but somehow i can't undervolt my phone and i'm running voodoo advanced 666.2 which supports OC/UV and Darky's rom v 9.2. Been googling around finding no answer
Have you got the apps 'setCPU' and 'Voltage control' ???

Yes but they don't work have also tried cpu tuner doesn't work either
when you open up voltage control does it say you have an incompatible kernel, head over to XDA to get one ??

no it doesn't it says nothing special but the settings doesn't save
Someone that knows what to do??

Cant figure out hard swap.

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1814311
Ive made the two partitions and tried flashing but i get a error on flashing
'file_getprop: failed to stat " /tmp/install/hardswap.prop': No such file or directory
E:Error in /External_sd/Hard-Swap-Yank555.lu_flasher-v1.0a.zip
could it be that im using speedy gonzalez kernal and it doesnt have swap support built in?
what am i doing wrong?
Well swapper 2 suffice?
there is no way to use it on this device as we dont have a kernel that has swap built into the kernel

Thank you is there any alternative such as swapper that could work?
my phone completely bricked............. I dont know how it wont turn on or anything first day using speedy gonazalez kernel perhaps this can be a warning for anyone who used 4.1 with speedy gonzalez I just bought the phone on craigslist too ... like a week ago worked fine without the speedy kernel I did change the maximum cpu frequency to 1300 if that matters but only on demand.

I think you can make a swap on the sdcard? Many that was on gingerbread?

Battery?

Kernel without Logo2Wake and Logo2Menu

Hi,
so I'm currently running the Lunar-Kernel because I want to have more clockspeed-cteps, lower minimum clockspeed and voltage-controls so that I can undervolt the CPU slightly which saves a lot of battery.
I just realized that it has this stupid Logo2Wake and Logo2Menu-Feature that I don't need and now I want to know how I can disable those or if there is any kernel that supports those voltage and clockspeed-settings but doesn't have these Logo-Features.
Thanks for your time and help in advance!
Stupid?!

Ok so because you don't need them, doesn't mean these are stupid features. Devs are working hard to bring those features users asked for. What is stupid imo is someone not searching the forum for something evident. maybe you should read those threads
Not a single kernel there that does what I describe above, except this one:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2301543
But the download isn't available anymore.

You ca n undervolt and overclock/underclock with elementalx
you can chose what features you want when installing in aroma so you won't be stuck with logo2wake or logo2menu if you don't want them
Yes but it doesn't work with CM11

maybe you should have mentioned this in your op?
TeaMSeven kernel for CM11. Why would you not want logo to menu? It is so handy but even if it was there you wouldn't have to ever touch it. Anyway, aroma lets you choose whether to install or not. Btw, my first post after I got my One was asking for a kernel for CM that DID have that feature and I got my a** busted!!
Sent from my GT-p511x
This kernel doesn't have AROMA-Options for all the features :/
I don't need the features and at first I didn't know that they were there, was really confused when the phone randomly woke up or a random menu popped up.
Anyone? :/

If you are looking for a kernel that suites your needs maybe you should look into building one yourself.

I installed and selected those options so I'm sure you could unselect them!
