What is the next best alternative to the Otterbox Defender HD2 for total rugged protection? Cannot seem to be able to find stock anywhere for the T-mobile HD2. And if I can find some, it is at a ridiculous price around $80-100
That's because OtterBox stopped supporting the HD2, now if you have one and it needs RMA they ask you to send them a copy of the receipt and they refund you the money paid.
I've got a Tmobile US HD2 Otterbox Defender case I'd probably be willing to sell. I got it a while back, but have only used it a few times cause I prefer my leather case... so it's in like-new condition still. Probably even have it's retail packaging laying around somewhere.
I think I payed around $40 for it when I got it, so considering I haven't hardly used it, I'd like to make my money back on it. I can take some pictures if anyone's interested.

why so exepsnive? Because of shipping?
These cases are the best ones i've seen yet! I love the design of the surface where it is two different pieces like some iphone cases. The kickstand is nice too (wish could be in portrait mode)... but i guess only the black color is shipping? Anyone know when the other colors will be available?
bump ?
where does Seidio ship from?
Seido is in Houston TX. Was going to order with over night shipping with fb10 and total would of been $79. lol I just couldnt do it. Buyers remorse was sitting in before i could even press send. I will buy the case when they send them to Best Buy's under the name PT, or price goes down on website.

I am with you. We pay tax in Texas as well. You need a 20% off coupon to make it worth it. I have bought the cases off of Amazon and mobilecityonline for less after they have been out for a few weeks.
I got my case today!!!!!! I probably could have waited but I hate not having a holster and I love the design of the seidio holsters. I do however wish I would have got the surface case instead of the active because of the rubber they use. Everything such as lint and dust stick to it.

Oh yea after a few weeks it goes down to like $40. And best buy will have them for $40 as well. I like buying from best buy although i have a Amazon Prime membership, because my belt clip always breaks 3-4 months down the road. Best Buy always let's me exchange it. Also anyone getting this case i would go with the Surface case. The Active will really look like your holding a tablet to your head lol. I bought both many times for smaller phones. The active case is a rubber piece that goes over the surface case and then and hard plastic piece that goes on top of that lol

Actually the active case is not very big at all. It is slightly and i mean slightly bigger than the surface case.
thinking about purchasing the surface combo..its $57 total /w shipping after using the fb10 code
my question is...for anyone that has it already...is it crazy to have a phone this size on your hip? i carried all my previous phones on a belt clip but im wondering if it would look or feel really weird to have an almost tablet attached to your hip

I use that on my belt to carry my Note II around. It's so big that it it looks like I have a purse or wallet on my hip. It looks absolutely ridiculous and I care not one bit lol. And really it only looks big because of the size of the leather pouch itself. If the phone was in a case and holster, I don't think it would look bad at all. I hate having a phone in my pocket. I've been dying for a Seidio Surface case + holster, but at $60 shipped, I'm going to wait until it hits $40 at Best Buy or Amazon.
lol...im sure people are gonna be like what the....when they see it
i remember seeing a guy with a gigantic case + holster combo one time..im assuming it was the note 1...it looked really crazy
it stuck out like a sore thumb...as soon as i saw it i pointed it out to my friends..and they all already noticed before i said anything
so im assuming im gonna look crazy with it on my belt..i just picked up the note 2 tonight...im not sure if i can get used to the size...the screen size yes (that part is amazing) but carrying it around is my concern
So how else would you carry it? For myself, I'd be worried about messing it up in my pocket, plus I'd think it would be pretty uncomfortable.

I keep mine in my pocket all the time. It fits in my pocket better than my Amaze, it doesn't turn sideways in jeans or my slacks/suits.
I just make sure I don't have anything that can damage the phone in the same pocket. I also put it in my pocket with the screen facing my leg.

i dont know..for me the holster is really the only option that i want
many people put it in their pocket (honestly..idk how)...others buy the tablet-like cases and carry it as a tablet
girls can easily put it in their purses...as a guy i really dont have any ideas..which is why im hoping that buying a seidio combo works for me
I was at the Mall today and people were lined up at an "Armour screen protector" kiosk. I don;t understand screen protectors. They are paying $25 for a screen protector to keep their screen from scratching. But they are also playing $25 for a screen protector that WILL get scratched up and then maybe another $25 in 6 months to replace that "ugly" one.....all while at the end of the day delivering a pristine phone to .......someone else.
My take is I want to use the phone as designed. I have not found any screen protector that is as smooth and clear as the glass. I want to enjoy the phone not protect it from scratches. My screen is pretty scratched up from pocket carrying but when i turn it on they all magically "disappear" Only when the phone is off and in my pocket does it look like its used.
Now some will say they will get more for their phone when they sell them if they are flawless. I would rather save all the money spent on cases and screen protectors and sell the phone at a $50- $70 discount to market and in the mean time enjoy the phone as designed. When I sell them I explicitly state anal buyers and those who "wear" their phones should pass despite the price. When I buy a used phone i will take the discount for a wear and tear phone rather than a pristine one.
Plus one can always throw a screen protector on and "erase" all the scratches if they are that OCD about these things. My Note will sell for $290 all day long with hairline scratches all over the screen which is about a $50-$100 discount to what they are selling on Ebay used, I will throw it up with no reserve and a buy in now price of $270 and see where the bidding goes. I'm betting either it goes for $270 very quickly or it gets bid to $300. now I know there are cheap Hong Kong screen protectors and they may be good. But nothing is as good as glass......I even am aware of the glass screen protectors which i found rather ridiculous as they can scratch as well..scratched screen protectors look as bad as a scratched phone!
I did get one of those $3 Hong Kong "gel" cases but hated it as I could not get it out of the pocket. The phone is big enough without a sticky rubber case. If I drop it.... my bad. but $25 for a "screen protector? Really? I think the people who make the claims that screen protectors are "better" then the glass...probably sell them at huge Margins....I am guessing 300-400% or more. Fear sells and OCD people line up for $35 "screen protectors" at Mall kiosks. I don;t know about many but scratching a $25 piece of olohenfdgc mastedfde" plastic would piss me off. That is not supposed to scratch its scratch "resistant"
Rant Over
Are there any others out there who disdain all cases and screen protectors and just enjoy their devices care free?
I totally understand your point. 25 dollars is ridiculous for screen protector. I do try to have to get one around 10 dollars though.
It is more of a feeling like if your car gets dinged or scratched. I dont think I ever cared about scratching my phones before the smartphone era though.

People have become conditioned by cleaver advertising to viewing these tools as Jewelry for profit. The funny thing is these are not items we even keep a long time. The Zagg people really have created a business from nothing but fear and obsessive compulsion. I have witnessed people who would lose sleep if their phones got dinged. This is not a $25,000 car here with a door ding. Its a $600 cell phone, a tool, I guess I am not an OCD type about anything. I don;t understand "glass" (on glass) screen protection. LOL
I simply use things and don't obsess over them except that they work perfectly and do what they are designed to do each and every time. When I buy something used I want to know one thing. Does it work like it was designed? Not is that a small ding I see photo on the corner in that 200% zoomed or hairline scratches on the screen. When someone starts asking those questions on my sales I tell them to move along and spend another $50 or $100 bucks.

I had the same mentality with my last 3 smart phones, until IT happens.
You get a giant scratch going straight down the middle of your screen.
Its horrible, you see it during games, movies, browsing, EVERYTHING.
In short, I'm not making the same mistake twice. I'll pay an extra $15 every 12 months to see a fresh scratch less screen.

My Note screen is full of small visible scratches. The flip cover created most of them since I live near the beach sand would get in there and scratch the heck out of the screen. I bought the phone used and it had the flip cover on it. I took it off and went naked. Many here would likely break out in sweat if they saw my screen and its really not all that bad LOL.
I have couple deep ones as well but I don't see them when I am using the device. A scratch has to be pretty much a crack for me to be bothered by it while using the device. A lot of mental anguish for nothing. I can understand someone buying a $4 screen protector and dealing with any issues it causes that may take away from the phones display or user experience to avoid the dastardly scratch. But people are being conned into spending $25 to $50 for a device that will keep the real screen no one is using pristine for the next owner and it will get scratched easier than the screen itself !
A case I can understand for those who fear dropping their devices and cannot replace them. But the Note is too big already. cannot imagine it with a case even though its clumsy size and one hand handling begs for one.The Iphone looks like a Key FOB next to it.
I guess I will never understand agonizing over minutia only to sell a pristine phone for another to enjoy and not stress over. Although if a scratch on the screen of a mobile device is the only thing one really worries about, I have to think they have a great life going LOL...

So this. $25 for a screen protector is highway robbery. ..but you can get protection in the event of *it* much more reasonably. My evo4g I never scrern protected, my note2 I did as the S-pen is an unknown quantity in how hard it can be.
At work my phone lives in a case and holster. Need my phone at work, and a naked phone falling on concrete floor is a shattered screen waiting to happen.

OH hell no...No way I would pay $20 for a screen protector.. Got to buy a screen protector to protect the screen protector........What if the screen protector it gets scratched? then I am out $20 and my phone looks like the Shyte I was paying $20 to prevent!! Then another $20 has to be blown Before ya know I have $100 in screen protectors protecting a phone thats dropping in value faster than a hooker at a bachelor party.
Screen protectors are very much a personal choice. There is no right/wrong decision on whether you should use one.
I would say for the everyday office commuter, they are probably overkill. When a desk or a conference table is the harshest environment your phone is ever likely to see, there is no need to sped $15-$20 on a screen protector. You don't wear steel-toe boots and a hard hat to the office for the same reason. It is important to protect your head and feet, but you don't need that level of protection if the environment your in doesn't provide that type of danger.
That being said, I work construction. I work in a technical field (so a phone like this comes in handy), but I'm constantly around dust, debris and micro-particals. I work on hard, filthy surfaces; I climb ladders; I'm around power tools. It just isn't a very nice environment for consumer electronics. I use a screen protector. I also wear a hard-hat and steel-toe boots when I'm on the job. The protection is needed.
In regards to gorilla glass, it really is just a matter of physics. Sure you can rake your car keys up and down the screen all day long and not see a scratch. After all, car keys are soft metal. But a single grain of sand, a small rock, or a piece of silica debris can make your $700 phone look like a cutting board. All that is required for a scratch is an object with the right hardness combined with the right amount of force. This is not hard to achieve.
Another thing to consider: As your phone gets older and more used, you will develop wear spots. These are micro-patterns that develop in the glass over the most frequently used parts of the screen. They are hard to see, and can only be seen in the right light, but they will develop. They would develop even if your screen was made of pure diamond. Friction will eventually wear down any surface. But as the above poster points out, how long are you likely to own this phone before you upgrade? You may not have to worry about this.
Only you can decide if a screen protector is worth it for you. For me, I believe they are. For others, not so much. The fact is, there IS a legitimate market for them and it is not all sensationalist nonsense.
Thats my $0.02

My auction for my immaculate Note 1 ended on this past weekend at $400+30 shipping. I had a screen protector and case on it since I bought it on launch day last October.
I completely understand where you are coming from and sometimes I wish I were more like you, but I'm not. I wish I can just toss my phone around and not give a damn as long as it works, but I can't. I, like some of you guys mentioned, have OCD when it comes to screens and damage on my electronic devices. I can't stand the thought of having a scratch or ding on my device, but I can deal with light scratches and dings on screen protectors and cases. Just knowing my phone is in immaculate condition puts me to ease. For me, it's more of a mental state of mind. I think this applies to some people here too.
Some people do it for the resale value, which I understand. I did not expect my phone to sell so high, but I guess the condition of it really attracted the buyer.
There are many other reasons why people get screen protectors. I hope you understand that not everyone is the same and maybe you can look at this from a different point of view. We all have our reasons and preferences.
It's all about peace of mind. Plus, screen protectors come in many different flavors to suit your preference. You can get completely clear ones that you will never even notice or matte protectors that drastically reduce greasy fingerprints and glare. You can get most good quality protectors for around $10-15. So I would argue that it doesn't make sense not to get one for such an expensive touch screen device. I do agree that the Zagg protectors are terrible, but for some reason they are the only ones carried by retailers like Best Buy. Many people swear by them though.
Let me also that you get what you paid for. Some people say "hey the screen protector sucks" well that's probably because he paid 2 dollars for it on Amazon.
When you get a screen protector, quality matters, don't judge based on those that China dime store crap.
At this point if you do your research and apply it right, it feels and looks like nothing is on your phone.
Plus, better resale value and peace of mind.
Don't ask me how, but I dropped a fork right on my screen, it warped the hell out of my screen protector and I freaked out, pulled off my screen protector, and not a scratch was on the glass.
We all make mistakes, and accidents happen, I for one would rather play it safe, and seeing as a measly screen protector for a small amount amount of money is all that separates my phone from having a non repairable scratch on the glass forever or a simple screen protector dent that can be replaced, then I'm fine with using them.

Uh, I just bought a pair of SGP ultra crystal protectors on amazon for $14 shipped (I have amazon prime). So, I guess we're in agreement that I, too, wouldn't pay $20 for a screen protector.
The flaw in your logic is the part when you say "What if the screen protector it gets scratched?" Remove the word protector from that question, and now you know why we use screen protectors. Would cost you a lot more than $7, or $20 for that matter.
We can all agree that 25 bucks for a plastic screen protector is over priced....
But really, I don't quite comprehend how a sensible person can state that a screen protector is "a waste of money" or "worthless" or follow the logic that simply because the protector will itself get scratched that somehow that correlates to the use of one being illogical....
The WHOLE point of the protector is insurance that your screen won't get scratched AND has less chance of getting damaged in a drop where the screen is impacted.
If you don't want to use one fine... but to argue that this is somehow a scam is like arguing that airbags are a scam, or that race car drivers don't need multi-point seat belts. They may never get used but you won't find a driver in the world that wouldn't wear one just in case.

Equating Screen protectors with seat belts or multipurpose seat belts in a race car makes my point. Lets see.......... a scratched screen or dead body....Yeah that's a good analogy and appropriate for the anxiety some people feel about these devices I think the rant is more about being anal bout a device people don;t keep for sometimes even 6 months. Then bump a sell for weeks because no one wants to pay top dollar for a year old device anyway, Very few Note s are going on Ebay for even $350 . If someone wants to pay $400 for a Pristine old Note God Bless them. I believe most would rather pay less than $300 and cover up a scratched screen with a $3 screen protector if that bothers them. But that's just me. Personally I would pay less for a wear and tear phone than a pristine one because I use the phone. I don't wear them. If it looked that bad I would skinnit.
$25 screen protectors are a scam IMO.
If one believes they will drop their phone, put it in a good heavy duty case. No screen protector will prevent a screen from cracking if the phone is dropped on one of the four corners the corner, It may only suffer one or two cracks though
I understand what you say. I never buy screen protectors, mainly because many of them degrade the quality of the screen, but also like you said it doesn't feel as nice to the touch as glass. But maybe I'll change my mind if I see that magical screen protector that can't be detected on the screen and feels as good as glass.

I guess I want to enjoy the phone as is. Slim slick body. Slick glass. Slips in a pocket easy and undetectable for a huge device. The only thing I know that will mar the glass is sand. That is what made the hairline scratches on mine. But even most of those scratches cannot be felt with a fingernail I have two small ones that can be if one tries hard enough. The stylus is completely safe and way softer than glass
The screen protectors they were selling at the mall felt like smooth Zagg. Rubbery and they did show a difference in screen quality. I was astonished at the prices more than anything. I thought Best Buy's $19.99 screen protectors were a stretch. The box looked really important though.Marketing is a wonderful thing.
Anybody know where I can pick up a black one for cheap? Cheapest I found was $19.95. Trying to save some money. I just want it for work because my main case is going to be the UAG scout. Thanks
Sent from a galaxy note 2 far far away...
Why not keep UAG as the only case? It will offer both style and protection, all around the day. Also, keep in mind, no matter how great UAG is going to be (I'm waiting for Navigator as well), taking it on'n'off every single day along with an alternative case will wear it's off sooner or later. A cheaper and more flexible TPU case will have a greater longevity, but obviously less protection. I'm just guessing UAG will be more rigid and after constant on and off might form cracks.
Regarding Trident, $19 is probably the best you can get until Note 3 is released, unless if they are slow sellers and have special one-day promo deal.
Since you are saying you trying to save money, I would just stick to one case

True about the taking it on and off part. I mainly want it because its ridged and has dust covers. I had the commuter but I didnt like it. The Aegis seems like a decent case. So I guess $19 is pretty cheap but I wanted to push it . I will keep in mind your suggestion. I hope to get my UAG next week. It would be a great birthday present to myself

Don't buy it. The edges don't stick around camera area and breaks way to easy. I bought one and still have it on the phone but the corner is cracked and is spreading.

I NEVER buy accessories from the Verizon stores. There is heavy pressure on employees to meet sales goals so many lie like crazy.
Yeah - Had the same issue with mine. Also went ahead and bought a .2mm or whatever from Amazon. Had spider cracks within hours with normal usage. Emailed the rep, got a new one and the same thing happened. For $7 it was worth the trial. Still waiting on a solid one.
Bought mine from amazon last week (just got my "like new Turbo" on 12/30) and havent had any issues, although around the edges you can see where it isnt stuck down. From what I think i remember reading, the screen is curved (slightly?) so it wont sit flat on the screen. Its not that bad, maybe 2mm at its largest gap. I just hope it protects it when it needs it.
I just ordered some military grade screen protectors. I had one for my droid ultra and loved it. I like the Tempered Glass but really don't like how the edges don't adhere to the phone.

So mine cracked Monday night. I didnt even drop the phone or anything (that I recall) so maybe it was just because it was in my pocket and flexed from sitting down or something?? Apparently theres a lifetime warranty... so Ill see about getting another one under the warranty. Heres the one i had.

Was it a Verizon brand? or the Zag brand? I had a Zag on my Note 4 and after a month, it started to crack.... I won't put a screen protector on my phone... Hell you better off just being careful or but in a case the comes with a screen protector attached..
I've had great experiences so far with tempered glass screen protectors. I ordered mine off Amazon because it was cheaper, but my local Wireless Zone (certified Verizon retailer) is great with replacements for screen protectors and stuff. Whenever my phone goes for a swim (this happens often), they always provide me with a free, no questions asked loaner (I could easily walk away with it) until mine dries out or I get a new one. Obviously, this could just be the local owner, but I have nothing bad to say about them.
I had one put on at the Verizon store when I bought my Turbo. Still on there and no cracks, and no problems with separation around the edges. I believe that your success depends on how good the tech was that put it on. If they don't get the screen cleaned adequately then they will not stick down.
