NC with new partition schema (photo?) - Nook Color General

Hi! a friend of mine is visiting USA next week. I'm considering buying a NC but would prefer to avoid the models with the new partition schema. Could someone please post a photo from the box that identifies this new model? afaik it has some sticker or draw on it.
Thanks in advance!
LU

At this point its probably most of them. I dont believe theres any thing special about the box, you could check serial numbers, and get the lowest one there..

it's a pity, I was hoping to be able to find the previous model in alternative stores, like best buy, wallmart, etc...

Last I heard, the new partition boxes have a blue dot? (A sticker I think...) And that wal-mart had older versions of the nook color for most people that were buying them.

walmart still has older ones as of last week, just look for the first 4 digits of the serial # to be 2010********* or earlier

I just picked one up last week from Walmart. All their stock was under the 201146xxx serial number, and the one I picked up was 201027xxx and had OS version 1.0.1 on it. You shouldn't have any problem still finding them without the new partitioning.

ok I'll ask my friend to look for a 2010xxx S/N.
Thanks for the answers.

Picked one up at the local Walmart this past weekend, got an SN20110701XXXXXXXX model. No blue sticker, old-style eMMC partition and ran stock 1.1

[Q] Brand new NC replaced to Pre-owned. Should I reclaim?

Hi guys, I recently got my NC replacement from BN. The original NC I bought was Brand New. It just had a line of dead pixels on the screen therefore I need a change. Turns out they sent me this Pre-Owned NC that I'm having now. The screen is fine this time but I can see obvious scratches on the case. The Serial Number of my original one starts with 2010XXXXX but the changed one is like 2005XXXXX. Does this mean it was produced back in 2005? I think this is very unfair for them to replace me my brand new (but defective) item with a pre-owned one.
Plus the replacement has the new partition issue that doesn't allow me to format data ("Error formatting /data"). This (I suspect) causes the rooted mod (cm-7.0.3 or nightly-83) throws an "android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly" error every couple of seconds. This is SOOOO frustrating. Should I consider to ask for a redemption or another replacement but a brand new one? Thanks!!!
The serial numbers do not denote the year. NC is less than a year old. Don't be silly.
If there is an obvious problem with the replacement just request a new one.

I think its the new partitioning scheme that B&N did or something, i had a ***** of a time trying to get my replacement nook working (i figured i'd probably need to get a replacement, so i bought a refurb to begin with! looks brand new and works tons better than the original)
You need to do a method of re-partitioning ALL of the MMC to a state where CM7 can install properly AND use the free space available. If you can't find this info, let me know and i'll dig around for it. I had to work on that crap for days since its not that well documented other than two forum posts. That and my PC did not want to connect to my NC via ADB at all.
I think there is already a large thread about the new NC partitions.

refurb Nook Color 189.99 From B&N through ebay.

Free shipping, even, in case any of you are looking for a second(or your first) Nook.
I just purchased one. Would anyone know how it's partitioned and what are people's experiences with reconditioned units? Thanks in advance for any info.
My refurb - you couldn't tell the difference between it and a brand new one. The only difference was a " REFURBISHED " sticker on the box. Had the 1.2 update - and latest hard drive partition.
Runs great off CM7 card.

That's good to know about the condition. I've got one that came with the old partition scheme. I'll have to read up on how to install cm7 to the emmc on this one. I probally should have checked on the condition before I purchased but I acted fast because I don't know how many they have and I didn't want them to sell out. Thanks.

Few things to consider (now and later):
- if the seller specified no returns, or specific conditions for returns, you'll be forced to respect those conditions, as per eBay rules.
- other people (including myself) are using OEM Battery/Chargers with no issues.
- if something is too good to be true (too cheap), it's probably not.
- you should have asked why the original charger/battery wasn't included; personally for me this indicates either a refurbished phone or an overworked phone, or that the owner was careless, or even worse, a stolen phone (but it depends on circumstances, ofc).
- if the item doesn't correspond to the description, you can open a dispute in eBay/PayPal
it is mentioned in the description that it is a brand new phone
can anyone confirm that there are no issues with the oem battery/charger?

As the man said
i am counting on it!if it is a matter of concern i will cancel the order and buy it from other seller!or else i will go on with it!
well i too have ordered from cell-force.in in ebay
maybe my shipment will come either today or tomorrow
will give my feedback here
PS: i asked the seller and he said he is providing original battery and charger, and he has good rating also
but keeping fingers crossed
i bought it from cart 2 india!i am cancelling it!they are not even providing the earphones!do not opt for cart 2 india!waste of money and time!cell forcein looked more promising!please post after you receive your phone!
I Have ordered around 6 Samsung focus from two different sellers.
Cell-force.in
Cart2india
The device and accessories offered by cellforce are genuine and original also y=the shipping time is minimum. wheres cart2india gives oem battery and charger also doest provide earphones also the shipping time takes around 10-15 days.
Returned the phone to the seller as i was not happy with the accessories. Got the refund
I will highly recommend cellforce for the genuine product he sells
i am also returning it!i ordered it on sep 27th!i did not receive it till now!i messaged him to cancel the order!so how many days did it take to get the refund?
Hi All,
DONT ORDER FROM CART2INDIA!!. The listing itself says Local (read FAKE).
I recd the Phone (its new!!!), was of old version software (OS.7008) (Hardware ver:1.4) made in Dec'10.
NO OEM SAMSUNG BATTERY..
NO USB DATA CABLE
NO HEADPHONE
SO NOW BUYING TIPS.
(i) Ask Vendor : NEW or REfurbished or Returned phone (These both appears NEW)
(ii) Ask Hardware version : 1.4 is new (1.3 is old)
(iii) OS can be updated... so really no issue.
(iv) Items bundled (AT&T bundles headphone, manual, data cable, oem charger and oem battery.
Google to find Refurbished....
Any questions..?? HAPPY TO HELP
Best pointer is check the box colour.
If it is AT&T white and orange box then you are safe.
But in Indian eBay,I have seen listings saying new box packed but box is white blue which indicates AT&T refurbished.
I will get my phone today from a seller cellphone.in. If the phone is hardware version 1.4.Can you upgrade to mango os?.and after mango upgrade do I have to unlock the phone?I am using Vodafone sim card in bombay
me and my friend got our phones on friday from cellforce
the box is some white/blue with samsung logo only. it has insets, data cable, charger head and earphones, all original, i bet, local make cannot be so good
phone is hardware 1.3, but no problem. works good. no sign of damage or anything
good phone
unlocked, and easily updated to mango by using Zune
i will recommend him
also, as far as the hardware version is concerned, i am not sure, but that may be any minor change
also, about new or refurbished, i don't know. i don't think we can do anything about this. i believe that Apple is also selling all the refurbished 3GS in India as new
and also, considering the price, it is way better than the cheapest windows phone (omnia W) available in India
so that's not a bad deal at all
and about warranty, just take care of your phones hardware for 1 year, as software is not a problem
its a good deal guys, go for it. you wont regret
I got my phone yesterday. It is V 1.4 firmware.zune found one update for thr phone. This update is for Feb.2011.Still no mango update for my phone
Hey Guys.,
Remember Hardware version 1.3 is very old. Ver 1.4 is new one and Probably Updated memory configuration. Ver.1.3 was stopped in OCT'10 itself. SO you have got a OLD stock or REFURBISHED or RETURNED phone
Point.2 . MANGO update is under testing for ver.1.4. So ver1.4 users have to WAIT.. Ver.1.3 users can easily update to Mango. Use Zune and google "mango update for focus".
Point.3: Dont Update the software once you have gotten the phone. First UNLOCK the Software using ChevronWP7 and unlock the software first. Some users got locked after updating the OS version, but some are lucky..
Point.4: AT&T reurbished Phones (Ver.14) are good and same as NEW Ones! So dont worry abt refurbishment. Manufacturer refurbished phones are Value For Money!!! On the box AT&T logo in Blue and white box with NO Samsung Logo means ""REFURBISHED". I got a refurbished phone, ALL NEW, but it got "HEATED" up upon continual talk time... say if you speak for 15 minutes continually, it will Turn inot Iron BOX. And each phone will behave on its own, due to various issues with individual phones!!!!!!!!
Enough???

Your point being?
1. I'd like to see some proof of hw revision 1.3 stopped in Oct 2010. Afaik, first 1.4 revisions were spotted around March. Even assuming the 1.3 hw revision was stopped from production, assuming *every* 1.3 Focus has been sold, is far fetched. Also, from what I've been reading, people got hw v1.3 as refurbished as well, which also makes sense in the context of unwanted returns.
2. That's unfortunate at best.
3. This goes for all Focuses, regardless of revisions/version etc
4. Refurbished is NOT new.
Also, there are no "issues with individual phones". "Different issues with each phone", yes, possible.
Heating after 15 min talking is definitely abnormal. I've been on conversations for 25 minutes and the phone got warmer, but not hot.
Also, talking is similar to using data connection (3G or WiFi) as voice is still data. I've been using WiFi for hours without getting hot. Warm yes, hot no.
i got my phone 2 days back!its 1.4v!i updated it to mango yesterday night!
hi bhasker
My phone version(firmware) is also 1.4,I can not get mango update(officially or forced) as of today. Are there any major changes(besides custom ringer tones and cut/paste).Some say focus is slow for mango(mutitasking)

[Q]

Just recieved a "NEW" note from a major carrier by post 02/03/12 , the broken seal has been resealed over, and accessories (battery/cable) were not in there right places. The build date is 11/11/11, and firmware is kk5, given that its months old ,I wondered what the build dates on your recent phones are, and could I have your thoughts on the matter please. The phone looks okay, but I don't want a second hand or a refurbished phone if thats what it could be, its not what I've paid for, many others had resealed items sent by post.
thanks.
To know the latest build of each region, you can use either:
CheckFusDownloader OR
visit samsung-update.com OR
check on dr.ketan's post
Carriers have to open the box to put a stamp on the warranty card. You don't have to worry about anything

[Q] Is my HTC Genuine ?

Hello, I bought HTC ONE brand new from eBay and after short use I found camera issue and the seller exchanged the phone with new one. Next I decided to sell it. After that the new buyer accused me for Fake phone. The main reason is the phone origin is asian, made for the asian region. The phone has firmware updates, Sense 6. I was 100 % sure that is Genuine but the buyer made me doubt a little. So we open a dispute in eBay. I will invite him here and let see who is right. He also said the IMEI number is cloned and the phone is not original.
The question is how to check if the phone is fake or original ? What's are the differences if they look exactly the same ? I think cannot exist fake copy or cloned phone which has the exact same software and hardware specifications as the genuine.

First off hardware specs can be faked easily enough. Most fakes have a mediatech chip and almost no ram. It is very hard to tell for those that dont know what to look for and to be honest you cant really be sure unless you buy it from HTC or a trusted reseller like amazon. I never buy devices off of Ebay anymore as the sellers can seldom be trusted when it come to mobile phones.
Here is the eBay store which I bought it from. As you see he claims that selling Genuine product and they have 99,3 % positive feedback.

The first thing that is a give away that it is a fake is that the device doesn't have an 8mp camera. It has a 4mp ultra pixel camera. Don't trust feedback either. Alot of sellers have their friends give them feedback
I know about the camera. He's wrong in the upper description. The phone has 4 ultra mpx.
Look down the Technical Details is shown correct.
Down in terms he's wrote:

Must be a way to find the true is it genuine or not.

You can't trust what's on the page. They could put anything there.
There are apps that can ID the processors, etc. on your phone, though I'm not sure if these can be spoofed. But if it comes up with something weird, that would be proof it's a fake.

That's I'm talking about. There must be something that can't be spoofed. For exsample if you make a note which is so good spoofed how you will find if it's fake. There must be something different.

Even that can be spoofed. The only way to be sure is to by from a trusted source. We have even come across some that have gone as far as coping IMEI number from real devices.
CPU-Z is a reliable software to check hardware, like @iElvis said, I don't know if it can be spoofed, but I personally don't think it can be. Below is an image of CPU and GPU info of a legit HTC m7 (Verizon variant)

Oh It can be. We have come across a few devices that are really good clones. They had to open the phone up to know it was a fake. But some things will give it away. Like most have small ram amounts, low res cameras. Things like that.
I am the buyer to whom the OP sold this device on eBay.
What she has neglected to mention is that the unit, which was originally sourced from Hong Kong, was supplied in entirely counterfeit packaging. The box is made of heavy polypropylene, rather than the card that all HTC's have long since been packaged in, and it has colour photocopied stickers front and back taken from a German language original. These copies also copy the HTC "98% reclyclable" logo that is shown on their authentic card-based factory packaging, despite the fact that clearly none of this packaging is likely to be in any way recyclable...
The box has no IMEI/Pin ID stickering of any kind, which again, is something found on all HTC packaging. The accessories supplied in the box are not those that come with this model, the SIM card pin is a crude copy, not an HTC original, the only paperwork in the box is a black and white photocopy of an HTC manual whereas this model is factory packed with a SIM tool card, a Warranty card, a user agreement booklet and colour manual.
I have come across pretty much this exact packaging (including the German language colour-copied stickering) about 12 months ago on another Hong-Kong sourced HTC One which eventually did prove to be a clone.
Since I'm not going to be opening up the hardware I have no way of determining for sure whether this particular handset is a clone or a refurbed original, what what I can say is it most certainly isn't a "Brand new sealed" unit in "original retail packaging" with a "manufacturers Warranty", which is how the unit was described when listed for sale by the OP, who also made no reference in her eBay listing to the fact that it has been sourced from Hong Kong.
Why you guys don't start a chat discussion with HTC. You will find how to on htc.com. They will ask you to provide them the IMEI and S\N and will tell you that if it's a unit from them or not and if it's under warranty.
And they may ask you some other things that will let you to know if it's a genuine unit.

As zelendel suggested, pretty much anything can be spoofed if someone is willing to go to enough trouble. Apps like this aren't performing independent analyses on the internals, they're just sending queries to the chips to identify themselves. If the chip has been designed to reply with a false ID, the app won't know the difference.
I just didn't realize people were really going to that level to make fake phones.
What about the imei on the Sim card tray? I doubt if its an original Sim card tray, that it has a faked imei.
