Hey,
Just looking for some advice where I should go for a cheap solution on how to fix my phone. Basically, everything still works great! Apart from the big crack, the screen doesn't seem to have been damaged (eg. All the pixels look fine, touch still works, only glass/plastic panel is cracked)
I'm actually really impressed by how it took such a hard hit and the device works fine, the screen didn't even smash! Basically it nudged in between my car seat where you close the door, didn't realise it fell out my pocket and closed the door (you could imagine it would be a hard hit) and the phone lives.
If I just needed the glass replaced, can it be done DIY? Or should I not bother and give it to a service centre? I got it from 3 but I know they'll probably overcharge me for something like this..
Any suggestions welcome, thanks!
if the damage is only to the exterior screen then you may want to consider getting this:

be carful! the screen from my firlfreidns diamond is broken too and I had ordered one of those touchscreens... but the screen which comes has no "window" for the frontcamera and after disassembling the phone I saw that it is NOT POSSIBLE to remove the touchscreenglas from the frame.
Replacement LCD & Digitiser
I recently replaced an lcd and digitiser on a HTC Touch Diamond. I bought the complete screen (lcd & digitiser) as one pre-assembled unit from a guy on Ebay (£34.99). Fits straight into the front of the unit frame. I don't think you can remove just the digitiser because it is stuck onto the LCD, and the LCD itself is very fragile. Disassembly is fairly straight forward if you've got the right tools.
Thanks for all your help guys! I've just been bogged down with work so havn't been able to get back here for awhile.
I've taken some time to look into the webiste and others, decided to just order it off ebay in the end anyways. However, taking note from the previous 2 posts, would I be wasting my time ordering just the digitiser itself? I would assume that's what HerrVorragend also meant by "that it is NOT POSSIBLE to remove the touchscreenglas from the frame."
If so, why do they bother selling them online separately? I guess I won't really find an answer, just seems stupid to me. Anyways, guess I'm stuck purchasing both LCD + Digitiser but as a final question, does anyone have any guidelines as how I should replace this myself? I'm very paranoid about this sort of thing because it's only 1 month old, however, I have also replaced an LCD on my old Nokia 6280 before using a step-by-step picture guide online.
Don't think I'd have much luck finding one for this model, hey.. haha.
Once again, thanks!
Double posted, sorry.

If you google for HTC Diamond Service Manual, that will help greatly with assembly and disassembly - there are also a couple of videos on Youtube. From my experience the most tricky part is re-connecting the two flex connectors when you re-install the main board. I use the back of a pair of tweezers to slide underneath the connector carefully. If you are nervous about doing it and happy to cover postage costs, I can replace the LCD for you - PM me for details and I'll see what i can do.

Hi everyone.
I brought a second hand XDA IIi a few months ago and loved it a lot. It was an upgrade to my ancient XDA. But recently it has developed a problem with the screen alignment where the top of the screen won’t work correctly. I cannot complete a screen align successfully and have also tried a hard reset which got stuck at the screen alignment again. There is no visible screen damage on the phone at all. My old XDA had the same problem but not as extreme as this.
The grey line in the image attached bellow shows how broken the alignment is using the top of the screen as a straight edge (It’s a game called PocketSand). The alignment gets better as you go down the screen and towards the bottom its ok.
Is there anyway I could fix or at least improve it myself? (I’m not that technologically impaired!)
I don’t really want to send it off to be repaired as it’s my only phone and it looks like it costs a lot of money. (I'm a student)
Try to use notes and draw the vertical lines with pen.
Probably the touch screen is died on the top of the screen.
LP
Thanks for the reply.
Attached is a screen shot of the alignment using notes, again using the top of the screen as a straight edge. Its pretty bad as you can see.
Personally I'd go on ebay and get a new screen...
I've just had mine apart (easy to do - about 15 minutes; first time I've done it - to dismantle and put back together) and figured out the screen I wanted is £20.. had previously ordered just the digitiser only (the touch screen part) and figured out today I had the wrong one (the older version)
Oh well 20 quid's not much to get it all working again...
Old style digitiser that I bought: EDIT: WRONG LINK - this definitely isn't compatible(!)
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/TOUCH-SCREEN-...ries_MobilePhoneBatteries?hash=item519098c2f9
Complete screen I'm now getting: (P/N:TD035STEB2 - matches back of my xda2i screen)

Dismantle Instructions

Ok thanks for the links,
Guess Im gonna have to buy a new touch screen then.
If you do, then please do check the version you have before buying (unlike me!).
As I said mine had the part number TD035STEB2 on the back and it matched the one on ebay.. and although it looked like I _could_ solder just the digitizer on (ie there were 4 connections still, just a different layout). I was unsure about separating the screen from the digitizer and so decided to bite the bullet and pay out £20.
This could also be well worth the expense if cotulla (see other thread) is successful with porting 6.1 to the xda2i.. looks hopeful so far.
Thanks for the info
The version number I presume is on the inside when you open it up. Am I right?
Unfortunately I don’t have the correct screwdriver at the moment (TORX6?) but I guess the complete LCD + Touch screen would fit as it’s meant for an XDA2i and should be easier to fit as well.
That would be awesome if 6.1 came to the XDA2i
Yes you need a T6 to open it (4 screws) (and a tiny cross-head screwdriver as well.. for about 10 others)
The serial number is on the back of the screen and unfortunately you have to take the thing completely apart to see it.
Not sure if there's any other way to tell what screen you need - I have a feeling there may be two versions...
As I said, it's an easy job and doesn't take long following those dismantling instructions.

Thanks for that. Ordered one and hope it will sort out my XDAIIi, which is surprisingly easy to dismantle.
I've received mine and it is the correct one..
Haven't installed yet, as last time I took the xda2i apart, it lost all data including the deathnoise rom and had to reinstall.
Wonder if this means the (small) internal battery needs replacing..?
Both say 100% at the mo.
Anyone know how long until memory contents are lost usually?
I'm not sure how it all works..
Really I'm waiting to try Cotulla's rom image - so will probably wait for that to be released before I dismantle again.. if I'm going to lose the deathnoise rom image then I may as well try wm6.1
How long did it take for the screen to arrive from Hong Kong?
About 10-12 days.. I think... (I'm in England).
I heard it's been chinese new year so postal system may be a bit slow...?
It was packaged a little simply, ie no box but iloads of bubble wrap, etc and it was in one piece when it turned up.
Yep I'm in the UK too..10-12 days would be great
Read all this post before you install the screen...!
Okay - just did mine and no problems at all - all fixed
Out of interest, the screen came with a screen protector...
I installed the screen and put it together again - I then went to put the screen protector on and realised it's bigger than the screen...
Bit confused as maybe I should have put it on before I installed the screen..?
Managed to dismantle and reassemble this time before the backup battery died - think it dropped down to about 25% during the 10 minutes I did the job.
Anyway, good luck with yours and I hope you have at least as much success as me .
May be worth putting that screen protector on before installing the screen..?
I'll be interested to hear if it fits okay...
EDIT:
Aarrggghh!! I've been a complete idiot...
Just looked at the old screen and that had a screen-protector layer on it - I've just peeled it off and there's a completely pristine screen underneath(!)
So I didn't have to get a new screen; just a new screen protector!!
Guess I now have a spare screen

Hey, thanks for posting that. My screen arrived today and I saw your post before fitting. So, looks like the screen already has a screen protector! All the aftermarket ones are gilding the lily, so to speak.
I got frustrated at the slowness of the IIi last year whilst trying to access transport directions and started stabbing at the screen with the stylus - I thought I had damaged it irrevocably but it was just the screen protector. The screen is pretty tough.
Anyway, now I have what feels like a totally pristine new machine. Except that what I have to do now is fix the charging/sync socket.
Thanks for your help!
Good news
I'm just using an after-market protector at the moment that slips under the upper and lower edges of the screen surround..
Maybe when wm6.1 turns up I'll sort the better one out.
hii people i need some help here i have bought a samsung galaxy s with a broken screen glass thinking it would be cheap and easy to replace just the glass, and i have bought the glass from ebay and can tear down the phone but i dont know what to do when i get to the screen how do i seperate it and is their a touch layer under their or what and if anyone could suggest any good tutorials or pictures to help me understand then that would be great because it is not as easy as it seems lol :/ and please dont suggest that i buy a new screen all together because i do not have enough money and i might aswell buy a new phone for the price of an AMOLED lol thnx and plz feel free to PM me
You're wrong from the very beginning
The hardest part to separate in the Galaxy S is the AMOLED screen and the gorilla glass
because they are strongly attached together. It would be very hard if not impossible to separate them without damaging the AMOLED screen
i had this problem but there is help .. i for one done it the hard way and cracked the glass more on the screen very hard to do .. then picked it away with a very small metal pick . look at one of my posts its on here and trust me can be done and then it gets a bit harder putting new glass back on as one the touch dont work right but dw that can be sorted first buy a really thin screen protector then lay that on then lay the new glass over that and touch works fine .. hope this helps but there is a high level of one skill and to a real big risk of fakin up ur screen when picking away at it ..
thnx thats gave me allot more confidence and hope in doing this and succeeding thnx u have inspired me to actually attempt it and i myt aswell because if it works then iv done it the cheep option and if i dont try il never know if the cheap option is possible and achieveable and could uu post a link of your thread please so i can read it much thnx

I'm in your same situation, and the solution that daleford2k10 proposes sounds great.
But I have some questions to ask you:
1) Where did u get the glass replacement?
2) What about the touch buttons (menu and back)? Because as I have seen in some disassembling videos they are strong glued. It is possible to get out (or break) the glass above them?
3) Did u tried with a hair-dryer first?
Thanks for your help

iv not tried anything yet as the hair dryer is concerned i got my glass from ebay
www (dot) ebay (dot) co (dot) uk/itm/Front-Glass-Lens-LCD-and-touch-screen-not-included-Samsung-Galaxy-S-i9000-/170739151176?pt=UK_Replacement_Parts_Tools&hash=item27c0d8b148#ht_2226wt_1270[/url]
but i dont know if you are a uk resident but you can get it from Hong Kong too and im taking it easy asin trying to get as much info as possible first to do this before i do it oh and i dont think the buttons will cause that much of a problem and anyway if they do break but the screen doesn't its still a win as the buttons would only cost abit and i have also seen some disassembly videos but none separating the glass if you have could you post a link thnx
Finally I got the glass from ebay (the same one as the guy of this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=21224865&postcount=238), but delivered from Hong Kong.
I haven't been able to find any videos of this neither... But as both jondale and devonblue4u say, I think it would be just a question of patience and being careful.
Good luck! As I think you will receive your glass first than me (it's going to take around 15 days according to the seller), please post some photos or videos once u do it.
success?
i am about to buy a SGS 1 smashed, but any of you two guys succeed in replacing the glass ONLY? i know i have just bought a dead thread back lol but sorry need to know. thanks
I remember reading somewhere a long time ago that it was done successfully once, but the person who did it had access to the glue used for sticking the screen to the glass, so he wasn't normal by any means. My suggestion? Suck it up and get both the screen and the display. The glass was not meant to be replaceable on its own.
I'm in the process of replacing mine. You can get the glass separated from the amoled using lots of patience,a heat gun, and very thin plastic of some sort. I used a variety of things including a business card, credit card and a very thin steel flat mrasuring tool. The key is heat and moving slowly. Lots of videos on youtube. when you are done there will be lots of glue on the screen, but it comes off by carefully rubbing it. Also, as crazy as it sounds wd40 gets rid of the rest. Saw this on youtube and was skeptical, but tried it and it worked. Cleaned the amoled with rubbing alcohol afterwards. I'm currently using my S with just the amoled while I wait for the new glass too arrive. Also, with the new glass, you won't put glue on the amoled, but around the outsides - again, youtube is yourfriend.
Hello guys, I have a Samsung Galaxy S GT-i9000 ...

I am also looking forward to replace the glass screen on my i9000 but I couldnt find any youtube video on how to do it. Can you give me a link? I would also like to know what kind of glue is needed. Thanks.
Hi, I recently got my HTC One (m7 / at&t) as a graduation present in June. Unfortunately I recently dropped it face down without its case onto the ground and resulted in a large crack(s) on the screen. I can still use the device, text, talk, watch videos etc.. but as you can obviously tell one does not simply enjoy the pleasure of having their phone(s) screen cracked.
So I immediately began looking for a solution and repair shops said 300$ to fix when I purchased my phone for just a little over 300$. So that is out of the question, unless its truely my last resort. So I began looking on how to fix it, youtube failed me the only thing that was helpful were the breakdown videos of the HTC One teaching me how to take apart the phone (The only part I was interested in was on taking out the glass).
The only solution I currently can think of would to repair it myself. So here are my questions.
1) The screen is cracked only, the touch screen works fine etc.. so can someone show me the listing on ebay/amazing (I prefer amazon) of the kit or things I would need to fix it.
I Saw this one:
amazon /HTC-M7-screen-digitizer-replacement/dp/B00CWKGZ5U/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1376517625&sr=8-5&keywords=HTC+One+Glass
Because it looks like exactly what I Need, BUT I'm no expert so would that fix my problem? Or is it the wrong thing since all I need is the glass and thats the "Digitizer Outter Glass" or something? I dont know my terms that well but to me it seems like what I need because its the "Outter Glass" haha.
But I'm confused about that because it says Digitizer outter glass and in the picture has the connection cord thing, Would this be replacing every part having to deal with the screen? (i.e I take a suction cup and take out the screen, and unplug the connection from the phone to the screen, would what I having in my phone (cracked screen with cord..) be the same thing as what Ill be ordering from that amazon thing but NOT cracked?)
-----------
2) How would I replace it step by step? I already seen videos of taking the phone apart and replacing iPhone screens but I havent seen any towards the HTC One in regards to replacing the screen. So would someone mind pointing me in the right direction, or giving me a text tutorial on what to do? I can pretty much figure it out by reading it since I have videos n pictures to compare it to sorta.
-----------
3) I never done a repair before but it doesnt seem that hard, just have to be gentle and know what youre doing (Thus why im asking so many questions), is this my best option? Or what should I do...
-----------
4) When I seen videos regarding the iPhone screen replacement it was showing things like Screen Seal / and him literally taking off the glass from the this other thing and replacing just the glass itself instead of the thing below it.
Would I have to also use a type of screen seal / or have to take glass off like you would do in the iPhone or is it a 100% different conecpt / idea?
----------
Remember: I basically need to know what I need to fix the cracked screen of my phone, I think this is what i need:
amazon /HTC-M7-screen-digitizer-replacement/dp/B00CWKGZ5U/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1376517625&sr=8-5&keywords=HTC+One+Glass
So if it is, then may someone tell me how to replace my phones cracked screen using that and explain it to me what im actually doing and watch each part is etc.. (like what im buying and whats cracked with my phone, so I know its what I need)
and if not, can someone tell me what I need and how to do it?
PS I understand I cant post outside links, but its amazon and Im not trying to advertise i just need the link as a comparison / example
This is one of the worst phones created when it comes to repair. It is well made, but ease of repair was not their priority. The only thing I can recommend to you would be to go to the Ifixit web site. They do a tear down of the phone to show how hard it is to repair. Maybe that will help you out.
Edit: In your original post, you wrote that you had watched videos on the Iphone. Since this is a different phone with differences in assembly, I suggested a video concerning this specific phone. Not trying to be rude, but if I was taking apart my HTC, I would view specific videos concerning my phone. I thought that the specific video might give you clues as to the parts involved in assembly and what procedures were necessary. The video I was referring to concerned their taking apart an HTC One. Every bit of information might be helpful to you trying to fix your problem.

Not being rude but I'm pretty sure I already stated the fact that I seen the videos and tutorials regarding the tear down of the phone. So how do you expect that to "maybe" help me out? If I'm trying ti find out the part(s) I need to replace since I don't know the full termology.
I know how to take my phone apart (For the most part), I Just need to know mainly what I need to replace to fix my cracked screen, or whats my best solution. + The questions i stated in the thread.
Thank you.
Unfortunately you will have to change the whole screen assembly.
This will cost you a little ... http://www.etradesupply.com/oem-htc...itizer-assembly-with-front-housing-white.html
You could try also just the LCD+ digitizer (if the front aluminum parts are still intact: http://www.etradesupply.com/oem-htc-one-lcd-screen-and-digitizer-assembly.html
If you scratched the back of the phone, those guys have the back assembly also ... about 24 USD ... ( http://www.etradesupply.com/oem-htc-one-rear-housing.html )
You could TRY replacing only the digitizer ( http://www.etradesupply.com/oem-htc-one-digitizer-touch-screen.html ) but I would not go there. In between the digitizer (what is actually cracked in your case) and the lcd there is a special "jelly" glue which is VERY hard to remove w/o breaking the LCD. I tried that on a N7 and now I'm waiting for a new LCD to be delivered ...
Good luck!
Thank you, I appreciate the reply.
My casing / housing isnt broken (The cracks start from the top of the screen right below the camera/speakers where the glass is, and the crack(s) end towards the HTC Logo etc..) so should I still buy the white housing with lcd+digitizer or should I just go with the second option and buy the digitizer+lcd without the housing (second link you gave me)

Not sure if it's worth it. HTC will fix it for you somewhere around $180.

Hi,
I posted a lengthy thread on how to do a repair here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2387992
Did it well over a month ago and it is still running fine.
You might want to call you household insurance, and tell them someone in your household (not you) dropped the phone while cleaning for example.
Here in the Netherlands, they will pay the repair even the same day.
I didn't had to send them anything, just tell them on the phone how much the reparations would cost, and they transfered the complete numeber right away!
Too bad I found that out after spending more than $100,- on phone reparations.
It might be worth the shot, since they may reimburse it for you.
