Depends upon phone supplier and the latest firmware they have uploaded to Kies .
You have Android/Samsung 2.2 ask your phone provider have they updated to 2.2.1 . They may not have updated and will skip this update as 2.3 may be released soon.

thanks
I am not using kies any more
I flash my phone using ODIN and CWM

Odin you can get from here:

For i9000 you should take ODIN v1.83:

Just enter "Odin 1.82" into the search field (upper part of the page on the right). One of the first links is direct download link.
Semaphore 2.7.4 kernel is all you need (that version is made for your firmware), the advice is good. It is a root kernel and consists all you need, SU, busybox even CWM based Semaphore recovery.
Find good flashing guide, here are plenty to find.
Hi devs, i am confused in flashing Custom Rom. I have rooted my phone and have cwm recovery installed. I want to update from Froyo to Gingerbread. Where to get the gingerbread rom that i can flash?
