Boot images. - Thunderbolt Themes and Apps

Don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but I thought I'd try to contribute... I flashed liquid today and ended up hating the boot image but loving the ROM. So as I was contemplating my options I remembered I had jrummy's Root Tools from my Droid x. Since jrummy usually builds for Motorola's[?] It hadn't crossed my mind before but Root Tools does have some alternate boot images available and an option to back up you current image. Long story short root tools will work to change boot image on tb. Still wondering if notification bar editor will work since it has only been tested on Motorola's and apparantly that messes with some framework stuff which could have some serious consequences.
*edit* font packs also work.

If you do not wipe data, you will run into a lot of quirks.
Also, if you have issues with super user, just download SuperSU http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1538053 Get the flashable zip.
If, you flash and are not rooted, just re-root the device.
About phone will not show ZVB. It only shows the latest ota/tot you've installed. For proof, check build.prop or check your download speed (wifi or mobile )
Quickboot has been provided for boot options. Power menu is completely stock.

Step 3 clearly states to backup device.
If there are any kwirks, like no status bar or missing images within the UI, just reboot. IDK why this happens but it does. Just reboot and things should be OK.
Also, pls be weary of any tweaks or addons you install. Examine the OG Tweaks script in the init.d folder for any conflicts first. If you don't know, ask.

Sweet. Will have to give it a go.
I just finished getting the Fascinatemtd ported to Ubuntu Touch. Need to complete my repo and get it out there.
Haven't gotten a new phone, yet. Still looking forward to doing something with this little old Revo when I do, though.
Flashed the ROM this morning. I am setting up my phone right now. So far everything seems good. Runs great thus far. I will run it for a few days and post back.

Appreciate it.
One thing, my wife's revo prompted her for the zvb update. I believe i forgot to disable the updater. My bad y'all. You can manually fix it or just wait a bit. I will post a patch to disable the verizon updater; makes it simple if you don't know how.
I went from ZVB stock to OG and so far it has been pretty seamless. I have all my apps installed again and everything configured. Everything appears to work great. Nice debloated base ROM with a few tweaks is exactly what I was looking for in a ROM.
Great Work.
My recommendation to those who are still here, Use the TOT and take the phone to ZV9, update to ZVB, root/cwm, back it up, and make the switch from BO...
The problem I fill with BO was there was to much done to it and that between the Kernal and the overclocking it just makes the phone unstable for many. I know I could not run it.
It would be nice if we could get the ZVB TOT and get the firmware ripped out.
Great work I.M.
Good to hear. And about the firmware, I'm working on that. I'm seem to be stuck on v8.

Really dumb question but....what link to I click to download the file from the download site? I clicked download and it brought me to a site that tries to sign me up for Netball???
Edit: Found the link. Buried between a bunch of ads towards the bottom of the page....
Just flashed OG ZVB, looks like you removed the Bing APK because when I hit the search button on the bottom right I get an error message. Any way to rewire that so it launches google search?
Never noticed that. I'll look into it and see what's up.

Also, I am having issues with Internet Connectivity. Web browsing seems to be fine but the Play Store is almost completely nonresponsive as well as downloading themes from within Beautiful Widgets. I am not sure why the internet works in one place but not another. Thought I would report this nonetheless however.

the connectivity issue 'could' be caused by the ad blocking host file. There should be 2 host files within the rom. One of them is a backup of the stock host file. Just swap em and reboot. also, vzw dns servers have always seemed a little slow to me. try changing them to google's dns servers. Rom toolbox can do it for you. I'm also gonna check and see if it is something on my end.
And as to the search issue, mine goes to google. Maybe try installing google search from the playstore and let us know.

Ok well.... bye guys, I will no longer be developing for this phone(publicly).
I built a ZVB ROM based on OG, it flashes, it boots, it is very slow, did not make it into the setup screen, it restarts.
Could it be made not to do this?
If so I will continue making ROMS.
But for now TestROM will just be getting bug fixes, and tweaks no ZVB.

Send me a link the your rom. I'll take a look and see if there is something I can do to help.
ok so I have been running this for about a day now. Initially it was very slow and internet connectivity was intermittant. I downloaded a third party ad blocking app and redid the hosts file and that seemed to fix it. But another part of the prob I was having was that it turns out that I DID in fact lose root access. So I rerooted and re-CWMed and now its running flawlessly.
Here are some suggstions for next release:
1) Remove even more bloat (DeskHome for example)
2) Replace Launcher with something better. LG Home sucks!
3) Add in Google Maps, Quick Boot or similar (or mod Power Menu to include same functionality incl screencap feature), and add the latest Swype as default keyboard (LG ZVB preinstalled Swype is terrible).
4) Replace Superuser with SuperSU and fix this whole losing root on flash thing.
5) Update all preinstalled apps with latest version.
6) Update About Phone to include all relevant info for ROM and underlying firmware.
7) update default Browser homepage to Google.com or something (really anything other than the LG default...terrible)
8) enable non market apps and usb debugging by default
9) update with a cool boot ani (like the android peeing on the apple, I love that one!)
OK this is all I can think of for now. Thanks so much for your work here! It's way more than anything I could do! Now that I have fixed the hosts issue and root issue this ROM is working great. Although I am still having intermittant occasional data connectivity issues. I will continue to monitor.

I'm on the sidelines now since this phone is no longer activated and is a lonely server sitting at home. Going to see if I can get the official OTA to ZVB and try your next release. Great going for keeping some air in this old tire
...not sure if ZVB will OTA to a phone that's not active. Will see.
Edit: Nope. The OTA has to come over the air. Seems obvious, eh? I had to fit the active micro SIM card from the GS4 into the Revo to get the update OTA.

I agree pretty much. I would leave home but convert it to a non system app. I would add another launcher. Home is not normally laggy for me but it is in this rom. Updated swipe would be ok.
I prefer the stock boot animation vs. animations like the android peeing on an apple do no interest me what so ever.
As for overall performance... Today it really seems very very slow. For now I am going to have to restore my back up. It is really really dragging ass.
Ok guys, I've almost got custom boot animations to work with the stock kernel and I think I got the lag figured out. Testing out a few things, so be looking for an update shortly.

[Q] New to andoid/moto x

Hello there.
so I'm plannin on getting moto x from verizon and have a few questions.
So I can root my moto x using this
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=45598679
but what do I do after? Install SuperSU? CWM app? How do I get recovery menu and what's the purpose?
Sorry for so many question, I've been reading a lot and its a ton of information. So if anyone could simply explain it to me, that would be great.
thnx in advance.
Rooting your phone just lets you do what you want with your phone whether it's tethering and using hotspot for free or changing the theme, if you don't want to do any of that then you don't even need to root, for a beginner I wouldn't root your phone until you want to do something that requires root
Sent from my XT1055 using xda app-developers app
I'd say if you don't know then you don't need it right now. Play around with your phone and get to know it. Feel her out. You'll find some things you want to change, or get rid of. When you get to that point, then you'll need root.
Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
I've been using android in the past for a short period of time, but I guess that doesnt count. So I want to root my future moto x for example, I want to get rid of those Verizon stock apps, cuz I wont be using those. And like to freeze the OTA updates. And just explore what I can do wit it, since its an open source OS.
Cwm recovery on the Verizon moto x is not available because the bootloader isn't unlocked unless you get dev edition, but root is available with PwnMyMoto and you can use xposed modules to change toggles, notification bar layout and nav bar height etc. If you use that root method and want to return to stock make sure you get familiar with RSDlite and fastboot. IMHO the stock ROM layout is already near perfect so besides some xposed stuff and freezing apps via Tbu there's not much more that really needs to be done to this phone, I think you'll be very happy with it as is. Active notifications, touchless controls, Motorola connect etc are awesome. Let us know how you like it when you receive it!

Thnx for solid reply. So to my understanding, in order to use TBU I need to root first, right? And Since cwm recovery is no available due to locked bootloader I wont be able to flash custom roms, if there are any? Not saying I want to, just want to know =) Any other option of recovery?

yes thats right tibu does need root since your looking to freeze/uninstall system apps. And as far as recoveries, there is a workaround called safestrap which is based off of TWRP that uses "rom slots" Im not entirely sure how it works though, probably someone more knowledgeable about that can chime in.

unlink ringer and notifications

I have xposed framework installed, and using motoXposed. I want to unlink ringer and notification sounds, I know that Gravity Box can, that's maybe the only feature I would use from it.
As I'm still learning what works best, wondering if that's the best choice, or if anyone knows if there's another, maybe "lighter" mod for what I'm looking for I just don't want to mess it up, as I'm not very experienced with ADB, Fastboot and RSD (I know, I need to learn in case I have to restore to stock, etc)
Appreciate any help

Thanks, was reading that in the description, which sounds good. Reading up on Fastboot and RSD Lite (in case of a bootloop, etc) realized the other day this is my first phone without a removable battery (luckily only had one brief bootloop in 3 years flashing on my Samsung) but fearing it with this device, as I'd be worried while I'm trying to figure things out and it's in a bootloop... as I would guess, or at least "looks" like it's bad for the phone

I believe if you use a root explorer you should see a flashable xposed framework Disabler zip file located on your sdcard. I haven't had one issue with xposed framework, just had to do a rsdlite flash yesterday due to a bad flash with a cm10.2 ROM , I couldn't restore my back ups as they failed and flashing any other ROM resulted in boot loops.
Xposed is safe and if you end up in a boot loop due to xposed just flash the Disabler zip
Sent on my Moto X
Thanks, xposed does sound pretty safe. I'm used to having custom roms, custom recovery on my old phone. I'm still learning with only being rooted, don't have safestrap, so no cwm, etc, presuming I can't flash a zip file with just root? Reading a lot, but still a learning curve for me.

[Q] Just got a new phone!

Bought the unlocked Moto X, and loving it so far.
But there are a few things I want changed: I want easy access to block certain permissions to certain apps, block ads, see how much percent of the battery is left in the top bar along with the icon.
If I understand correctly, there are two ways to achieve those things: Get root access and install apps which require superuser access, or install a custom ROM.
What would you recommend? Is there a custom ROM that can even be installed on the Moto X? How mature is it?
Thanks! Just trying to see what my options are.
I just unlocked the boot loader then installed twrp which will ask if you want to root the first time you boot into it. I then installed xposed and gravity box. It's the best combo I have for now.
Sent from my XT1060 using Tapatalk
Thanks! Now I see some keywords - will be reading more about all this stuff
So if I understand correctly, you didn't install a custom ROM? What factors went into this decision?
Roms aren't needed because most of us can do customization ourselves with xposed modules. Unlike sense and touchwiz, Moto adds very little bloat so there's no need for any tweaks a rom may promote since the device has never been laggy for me. GravityBox is a very useful app to have. Additionally you can use modules like Xprivacy and MinMinGuard to help with restricting data apps have access to and toning down ads, respectively.
Thanks, guys!
Will follow your advice here - I'll stick with the stock ROM.
Already unlocked the bootloader (super easy).
Now I need to install TWRP, but to do that I need software which is called mfastboot
This thread

But it never says who developed it, and where it actually comes from. Do we just need to trust it?

It´s made by Motorola themselves. mfastboot was made to flash Motorola devices since normal flashboot can´t or something like that (can´t remember )

Once rooted, AdAway is a really good app. I like how it uses the phones Host file, the same method I use to block ads on my computer.
I went with the xposed way.
Everything works like a charm.
Until I got a message "New system software available!" It asks me to upgrade to 4.4.2.
What does this mean? Do I have to revert all changes I've done so far? I clicked No, maybe later just to be safe. But what is usually done in this scenario?

It would probably fail if you did take the update since you have made modifications to the Stock ROM. You have to be 100% Stock without any modifications to take the Update.

Yep you'll definitely need to provide them permissions or root.
Is adb working? Can you say adb devices and get a feedback code?
Also why not root? It's a OnePlus, the one phone you can root without repercussions.
I have always rooted my phones for the last 16 years and most likely will root this one too. But quite honestly, at least for my needs, benefits of root vs.complexity of rooting process, steps necessary for each upgrade is not there. Lack of official twrp, issues r/t Titanium backup, etc are not encouraging. That being said, the moment I see a good custom ROM for this phone, I know I will root again. Thanks

Funny you should say that, so have I, and in all honesty you mustn't have seen the guide I made on rooting as it's extremely clear.
Plus as from the 8 pro on wards, you simply do not need twrp, period..it'd be nice to have MSM, but we already have fastboot enhance which is actually better as it doesn't relock the bootloader .
Titanium also hasn't worked correctly for a while, it has issues with restoration.
Swift back up works perfectly for those needs and it can back up to the cloud..
I'm not going to go into the benefits of rooting but just getting rid of ads is massive for me, I couldn't stomach a device which allowed them.
But you do you
