Hi there
I'm quite happy with my Nexus One... a very nice change from my old BlackJack 2. However, I have one issue.
When I get an incoming call, sometimes the screen won't wake up at all. Pressing the trackball, etc. does no good. I installed a program called noblock and now it's waking up after the call is over, but the other end has to hang up first.
This has to have something to do with the screen lock in relation to the proximity sensor or something. I'd really love it if I could just set the screen lock to manual, so I can press the power button to turn the screen off and on, getting rid of the slide to unlock screen entirely.
I tried a fix from an older thread to disable the proximity sensor, but it had no effect. It was adding a line (gsm.proximity.enable=false) to build.prop.
Can anyone give me a direction to go? Thanks!
i have some issues with turning my screen on sometimes, it will come on briefly and turn off with just the backlight for capacitive buttons on
2.3.4 ? Are you sure ?
It's some CM nightly ?

Just curious...in the TD1, I used S2U2 to avoid accidental touches to the screen but as the TD2 already has the side to answer/end .. what do you use now?
I'm having a few issues I did when I got the first diamond where if someone calls, or you call out via bluetooth, the phone screen turns on
Usually end up hanging up on someone when I call them because the screen touches the pouch/pocket etc
I think there are a few apps to disable screen apart from hard keys etc - just curious what the majority use

Is there a tweak for this in ACT? With my t pro when a call goes thru the screen goes dark almost immediatly, so I have the opposite prob as I need to use the kp to enter numbers sometimes. I could see where using bt it could be an issue tho.
I was wondering if the D2 came with a proximity or light sensor to disable/turn off the screen while it is against your face. I hate my Elfin.... I'm always pressing things with my face and getting into all kinds of menus.
My brothers Behold has sensors that shut the screen off. As of recently I have been pressing the power button to turn off the screen after I answer. Can't wait till mine ships on the 11th.

I asked the same question in another thread, and would be very curious about the answer, especially since gsmarena.com does not mention it as a feature, in comparison to the D1.
the iPhone has this feature...and I really can't imagine the D2 to do not have it. I hope I won't be surprised negatively.
i presume it does
Bearing in mind it automatically dims the backlight, and increases it. It must have one somewhere!.

I sure hope. I read that the Touch Pro2 has it so I'm hoping that the TD2 does also. If not that would be a shame. Good thing I'm getting used to pressing the power button right after I answer.
The D2 does come with a proximity light that dims the screen. If you look at the manual it's listed in the diagram specs page as well.

that sounds really great! but does it mean that it's inactivated too? dimming is indeed good, especially in the dark not to have a glowing ear - but i was wondering if, with the dimming, comes the inactivation of the screen too, in order to avoid accidental pressing of buttons with the ear/face.
I'm running the latest:
CM7 - RC1
Radio-5.12.00.08
The issue is every time the screen times out. - Lock button, while in a phone call when the proximity senor activates, or just a regular screen time out.
The weird part is when it's locked and I press the lock button to turn on the screen the screen doesn't turn on, but the touch sensors still work(I can unlock the phone by feeling for the unlock tab) & the buttons light up. The phone doesn't freeze up. Also, the screen has no color issue; I tested the multi-touch with the dev tools in CM7 and it's 100% functional.
I've tried wiping everything and reflashing with both Clock Work Mod Recovery & Amon_RA's.
I would kindly appreciate help in anyway.
I just got this Nexus one with an unlocked bootloader running CM5. (lol I know) My cousin is trying to sell it to me and left it to me so I can fix the issue. If I can't I suppose I won't buy it.
My wife has a CDMA Hero which I rooted and installed CM7 on. It is running great, for the most part, except for the fact that she can't press the phone to her face when she is calling someone (she finds this a bit annoying). This is due to the fact that the phone app (or I guess it's really an activity for you developer folks) that runs during the call has a great big "END" button that is easily pressed when she puts the phone against her cheek.
I understand that the Hero does not use a proximity sensor to shut off the screen (I suppose that's why it has the answer and hangup buttons). I have tried installing other "Dialer" apps, but they don't actually change the app (activity) that shows during the call itself.
So, I have two questions:
1) What is the name of the app/activity that runs while a call is in progress?
2) Are there any alternatives for phones such as the Hero?
The screen should timeout in a few seconds and the screen will turn off.
Which version of CM7 are you running? Perhaps try the dialer one app in the market, there might be some bug in the cm7 one.

I think it's 7.0.3, I'll have to check when I get home. I should probably update to 7.1 and see if that doesn't fix the issue.
I have tried installing a number of different dialer apps, but they don't actually change the screen you see when the call is in progress. It's always the stock screen.
like the other guys mentioned, the screen should time out after a bit, but just make sure ur screen time out is set to 30 seconds or less and under call settings make the box is not checked where it says "stay awake longer than normal"
My screen shuts out after 30 seconds, which is set under the display settings then I just wake it by pressing menu button if needed.
Good luck

When I'm in a call and move the phone away from my ear, the screen will not come back on. Pressing the power button does not turn it on. The only way I found to get my screen back is to shake the device to trigger the camera, then go back to the phone. This makes it difficult to access the keyboard necessary during some calls. Today, I tried to turn on the speakerphone during a call but was unable to see the screen.
Is there something I'm missing about this? I don't know where to look. Anybody else seeing this? I do have a MIME glass screen protector installed but I don't think that should affect the proximity sensor.
I think I found the problem. I believe my case sometimes causes this.
I've had this problem with 2 different roms now (PureNexus, Chroma) on a few kernels (stock, ElementalX) so I'm not sure whats causing it but I need a fix. In a call, many times the screen just stops responding. Sometimes I can turn the screen on/off using power button and its fixed. Other times nothing works and I have to do a hard reboot by holding down power key since nothing else works on screen.
This is on latest version of the rom/kernels. Any ideas?
When you say its stops responding, do you mean it goes dark and nothing displays on screen? Or that its on with everything displaying but tapping it does nothing?
Only when in contact with ears?

Its on, touch doesn't do anything. The phone is working since volume keys bring up the UI but you can't do anything. Also proximity sensor works, it turns on/off as I bring near ear. I don't have a screen protector.

I'm having a similar issue from the last month.. I'm on DP5
when i get a call most times the screen is off.
To answer the call i've to put on the screen, unlock the phone and then go to the heads up notification and choose answer there..
waiting for nougat final hoping it'll fix this.
Tried fiddling around with notifications importance setting.. it helped a little but then there was the annoying heads up showing along with the regular incoming call screen.
Sometimes (very rarely, has happened twice) the screen just remains black and will only work normally after a reboot.
Anybody have any suggestions?
I was having similar issues, also on the Developer Preview and I ended up noticing that the phone app was blocked from showing any notifications despite the fact that I never set it that way. I would hear the call ringing but would never see the screen to answer. Just changed that setting and everything was back to normal. Perhaps something is causing the phone app to fail to show notifications for you as well.
