[Q] CM7 Dialer/Phone App - Hero CDMA Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My wife has a CDMA Hero which I rooted and installed CM7 on. It is running great, for the most part, except for the fact that she can't press the phone to her face when she is calling someone (she finds this a bit annoying). This is due to the fact that the phone app (or I guess it's really an activity for you developer folks) that runs during the call has a great big "END" button that is easily pressed when she puts the phone against her cheek.
I understand that the Hero does not use a proximity sensor to shut off the screen (I suppose that's why it has the answer and hangup buttons). I have tried installing other "Dialer" apps, but they don't actually change the app (activity) that shows during the call itself.
So, I have two questions:
1) What is the name of the app/activity that runs while a call is in progress?
2) Are there any alternatives for phones such as the Hero?

The screen should timeout in a few seconds and the screen will turn off.
Which version of CM7 are you running? Perhaps try the dialer one app in the market, there might be some bug in the cm7 one.

I think it's 7.0.3, I'll have to check when I get home. I should probably update to 7.1 and see if that doesn't fix the issue.
I have tried installing a number of different dialer apps, but they don't actually change the screen you see when the call is in progress. It's always the stock screen.

like the other guys mentioned, the screen should time out after a bit, but just make sure ur screen time out is set to 30 seconds or less and under call settings make the box is not checked where it says "stay awake longer than normal"
My screen shuts out after 30 seconds, which is set under the display settings then I just wake it by pressing menu button if needed.
Good luck

Lock screen during a call?

How do you lock the screen during a call?
Is there a setting where the screen will automatically lock while I am on the phone?

search the market for "procsimity sensor" that does it automatically. there are a few bugs that need to be worked out with it becuase it uses the light sensor it doesnt work real well in the dark but from what I have seem other than that its a pretty good app.

I uninstalled it because I hate auto backlight. It stays dim even when browsing.

i personally dont use it but thought he might want it
The lock replacement app, LockBot Pro, as a setting to lock the screen during a call. Not sure about the free version but it's worth a dollar or two.

The screen does automatically lock. The timeout is adjustable, but I don't think there's anything in the Settings menu for it.
I use a program called Quick Settings that puts a shortcut on my home screen to a list of modes - each mode can include custom screen timeout values, ringer volumes, etc. One of them is in-call screen timeout.
OK now, I have tried them all now:
Quick Settings
Call Light
Call Daddy
Lockbot
Proximity Sensor
Screebl
Power Manager
and I still can't figure out how to time out the screen duing a call. It's driving me nuts because I hang up on people all the time. Why can't I get any of the above to work on fresh 1.1 + Gumbo kernel?
For all the people out there on a Sprint Hero, what app are you using and what are your settings in Settings> Sound & display> Disable auto backlight and your screen timeout settings.
TIA.
I'm in the same boot and wish I could find an answer. Sprint really screwed up not putting a proximity sensor on the phone.
I have tried "Proximity Sensor" app but it's buggy and I don't like using auto brightness. Just tried "Quick Settings" but can not find any adjustment for time out during call? only the general screen time out.
Does anyone know where this setting is? Could it be only for 1.6 and up?

In Power Manager, it's under "Stay Awake" and it's called "During Call."

jonnythan,
I tried that and it doesn't work for me for some reason. I have diabled auto backlight and my screen timeout is set to 30 sec. What are your settings? Also with Power Manager how long does it take to time out?

I have different settings for different situations. I have it set to 10 seconds while on battery and 1 minute while on AC power. Works fine for me.

Ever since I switched to a custom kernel, lock during a call has been temperamental. I'm using Gumbo's rom/kernel. For some reason it started working again today. Last night I did switch back to the stock mem kill settings, but I doubt this had anything to with fixing it. Sorry this post is of no help, I just wanted to let you know you're not alone.
Check out the Screen Suite app...
The Screen Suite app is a collection of screen utilities. Features a lock screen that can be configured to lock during a call and has a panel to lock your screen on demand.
proximity sensor works pretty well for me and i dont have auto back light enabled...
im running damage 2.0.7.2
screen suite doesn't disable the notification bar, my ear pulls it down sometimes. i have things in there that launch.
This thread has the "end all" solution which you can just flash to your phone. It removes the "End Call" button from the screen when you're on a call so that you can't do any facial hang ups.

Hero Lag?

Im not sure why this is doing this. I upgraded my fathers phone, rooted it, and placed liquid rom on the phone.
If i assign a shortcut to call a contact for instance, i click on the contact and it takes close to 4 to 5 seconds for it to goto the dial screen?
Also, doesnt the hero come with a sensor for turning off the screen while on a phone call?
If i remove my phone from listening by my ear, the screen stays black until i hit the end button?
My dad swears it wasnt this way before lol
The Hero does not have a sensor to end a call on it's own, just the Eris.

The Hero does have a setting to turn the screen off during a call, some ROMS also have a setting where you can choose what the power button does during a call. Mine, for instance, is set to end the call when I press power, and wake the screen when I press menu. Just play around with the settings in the ROM's settings, sometimes they are not default.
What radio are you using?
Im not sure, i will have to check.
I figured the ota i did updated the radio, im a EVO guy myself
but what i will do is grab a new radio and flash it
you guys know what the latest version is?

[Q] 2.3.4 screen issue on Nexus One

Hi there
I'm quite happy with my Nexus One... a very nice change from my old BlackJack 2. However, I have one issue.
When I get an incoming call, sometimes the screen won't wake up at all. Pressing the trackball, etc. does no good. I installed a program called noblock and now it's waking up after the call is over, but the other end has to hang up first.
This has to have something to do with the screen lock in relation to the proximity sensor or something. I'd really love it if I could just set the screen lock to manual, so I can press the power button to turn the screen off and on, getting rid of the slide to unlock screen entirely.
I tried a fix from an older thread to disable the proximity sensor, but it had no effect. It was adding a line (gsm.proximity.enable=false) to build.prop.
Can anyone give me a direction to go? Thanks!
i have some issues with turning my screen on sometimes, it will come on briefly and turn off with just the backlight for capacitive buttons on
2.3.4 ? Are you sure ?
It's some CM nightly ?

Keep the light on??

Does anyone know how to keep the light on during calls?
I am so over this phone, the light won't even stay on whilst I'm clicking options on a menu during a call, I have to constantly turn it back on again, and when I've finished a call I turn it back on to end the call and it comes on and off again!
Why can't I turn the light on and off when I want?
I have the screen time-out set to two minutes, but that doesn't work during a call, it's more like 30 seconds.
Are you rooted ?
Which Rom are you on ?
Try....settings-call settings-keep screen awake
Hi Pete ... yes it's rooted, I use Milkys ROM.
I've checked the setting you mentioned but it's not there, apparently it disappeared after 2.2.1.
However, I did Google "keep screen awake", and found an app called "Stay awake", all I need now is someone to call me!
Thanks.
Well im on GingerBread 2.3.4 and the options there for me, but with that being said im on Insanity Rom. But glad you got fixed up.

Notification sound cut off, now screen won't turn on

Since updating to marshmallow, my longer notification sounds, especially Calendar Snooze, are cut off.
I read somewhere about an app setting to allow it to turn the screen on as a fix. I did that but now I can't remember what app I made the change in or where I read that suggestion. I thought it might have been Light Flow, but I can't find it in there.
Now my power button fails to wake up the screen the majority of the time. Sometimes the lock screen will flash for a fraction of a second and go black again. Usually it takes 6-10 tries before the screen finally stays on so I can use my phone.
Since the wake up problem started when I tried to fix the notification sound, I'm pretty sure they're related. Any ideas?

if youre using lightflow id suggest wiping the data in it and resetting your notification settings. it does tend to override the system so i can see that screwing with the duration of the notification, and starting fresh usually solves most problems
i have mine set to wake the screen for SMS but not MMS. it creates similar problems with the screen
Thanks for the info. I tried just toggling the screen on settings on and back off for all of the Light Flow apps, and it seems to have fixed my screen turn on problem, at least for now.

I'm having the same notification sound cut short problem, I have a nexus 7 wifi 2013 model running Mohamed rom v2.1
Whenever anyone calls me on google hangouts, the ring only lasts for a second before its cut off, this doesn't happen if the front cover is open, it happens only when its closed.
I didn't have this problem on kitkat, but on MM this problem started from day 1.
I don't see any light flow option anywhere.
Any suggestions to fix this will be very appreciated.
Thanks.

LightFlow fixed my screen problems, but it was just a coincidence that I installed Marshmallow and my sounds got cut off around the same time. I'm still looking for a solution to that issue. Similar to you, if my screen is on, the notification sounds work correctly. If the screen is off, they get cut off.
