Put some pressure on LG - LG Optimus 2x

Guys, if we ever want LG to act properly and fix the issues on the G2x/O2x then we need to stand together and put as much pressure on LG as possible.
One way of doing so is to post replies on their official global facebook site for everyone to see.
http://www.facebook.com/LGMobileHQ
Every time they put a new marketing blurb on this site claiming how great they and there products are - everyone should post a reply demanding them to act and fix the G2x/O2x and release a proper Gingerbread like the competition SGS II and HTC Sensation allready have.
This is a sure way of getting heard at LG, with 310.000 viewers and potential new customers reading it, LG cant continue to ignore the issues.

Who says LG is ignoring the issue?
LG Global HQ promised a update in may on Facebook, this was later postponed (by LG Italy) as the update was not done.
I hope LG (global HQ) will inform users what is going one in next week (well, I hope they do). Because at the moment they have promised an update which possibly is postponed to mid or end of june. But a official statement from LG Global HQ is still missing.

Im saying they are ignoring the issues because
1. They initially promissed the phone would be launched with Gingerbread when first announced. But it was launched with Froyo because they weren't finished with Gingerbread, however with a promise of Gingerbread being released very soon after and everyone then expected Gingerbread to be released atleast before the competitions phones would be released. This is not happening, and Gingerbread are now possibly due some time in june/july long after competition have released their phones with Gingerbread. Even older models from different manufacturers are now receiving Gingerbread before our new "dual core super phone"
2. The issues are not only rebooting, but also a number of different other bugs in the phone causing it to behave poorly both in comparison to the nearest competitors but also in comparison to even older single core phones for certain operations. LG has not at any time responded in any way regarding any other issues but the rebooting which they have only responded to with first a baseband update stating this would fix it (but it didnt), then after more pressure a promise of a new firmware mid/end may to fix it but now postponed indefinately because of problems finding the cause.
3. Problem is, if they still havent been able to identify the real problem then its impossible to say when they actually will, or impossible to say if it really is a software or hardware problem that should demand a recall. And still there are no response whatsoever regarding other bugs in the phone and regarding fixing these.
4. Information and response from LG is virtually non existing, meaning noone has a clue if they are simply stalling and hoping for the bad press to drown in the new press for their upcoming models like the optimus black and the optimus 3d
5. We need to get more commitment from LG on these issues, not only the rebooting, but also the rest and they need to speed it up. Im not accepting to buy a phone that will take a year to get working the way it should have worked from day one. By that time we are moving on to the next phone.
Manufacturers need to learn that it is not ok to release beta products that take the products whole lifetime to get working fully - noone would accept to buy a car where the brakes didnt work or the wheels fell off and just wait patiently 6 months for some update to fix it.
Also - I really do like this phone, or rather I really do like what it could be and I want it's full potential to be released. Its such a shame to have an unstable firmware with stupid bugs making it look bad.

Good idea

Well to find a solution and nothing official why and how and waiting for two months on an 500 Euro phone yes I feel ignored

LG is totally ignoring these issues in Switzerland. Furthermore, the repair service is totally unaware what to do with infrequent reboot and freezes. They simply flash firmware V10c and send the phone back to the customer. This does not fix anything, because I had V10c already installed before I sent the phone in. I returned it to the shop last Friday for a 2nd attempt to repair it. And I know what they will do to "fix" it, they install V10c and send it back.
I am forced to play this game 3 times and then I can ask for a refund, this is how the law works against the customer here in Switzerland. And this is all LGs fault, because it is their call to simply replace a defective phone, but no they only authorize their repair service to reflash the firmware.
What is not helping, there are still people out there with working phones, praising the 2 day runtime of the battery and how fast it is. Mine is lagging big time. I did not pay 555 CHF to turn off every useful feature of a smartphone to make the battery last a day.
Besides, LG Switzerland does not even reply to mails. They may be aware of the situation in other countries, but in Switzerland they are not.

It is exactly the same situation here in Denmark
Talked to LG support many times, they dont know anything and only send me back to the retailer for repair, the retailer says to talk to LG or send in the phone for reflashing (i wont call it repair) and only after doing so for 3 times will they make a refund. This could take months. So instead of having to go through that process I would prefer if LG could just get their act together and fix the firmware.

The more pressure we put then the sooner the gingerbread etc will be out, but it will end up being buggy as hell like the software we have now, just let them get on with it, and they will release the updates when they are stable and 100% working

The pressure on LG should continue, yet I do not want them to replace one faulty firmware with the next one. I want my money back. The high scores in artificial and silly benchmark tests are completely useless if the phone is not stable.
Furthermore, the preinstalled LG crap programs should be made customer uninstallable without being forced to root the device.

See my last comment on this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1100293

I doubt we'd be able to put "pressure" on a multi-billion dollar company tbh
It's not like they've completed the Gingerbread update and are... well... simply not releasing it. It's simply not ready yet.
I'm hoping that they're not gonna do the Gingerbread update, not tell anyone and secretly update to 2.4 instead

Haha definitely would be great to have 2.4 straight
C'mon LG!

I don't know why LG always let their android phone become unstable. My brother used P500 always hang (black screen can't wake up)
Now I use V10D with 2X, it always black screen or reboot after I upgraded someone's android 2.3.4 mod. it's fine and good no more reboot and lag. (wifi function has some bugs)

Yeah, totally! And request Gingerbread!
What do you think abot that: (copy/paste from that site)
It's a battery problem. I tried an exchange G2X with same battery and had issues. Put a new battery in my G2X and issues went away. I get occasional reboot (once in 3+ days) but no longer get screen of death or overheating. There is a batch of bad batteries out there. Trust me.
Just a rumor, nothing true about it.....
G2X indeed has been removed
I believe that there is a problem with T-mobile being able to track data or something that effects bottom line. I don't believe the phone is defective and I own two. If anyone can provide settings for wifi in CM7. Currently running nightly #34---still no wifi since #20 for me. Please help.

Optimus Dual delay in updating the end of May.
released by LG in the Box on Thursday, May 26, 2011 at 14:01
.
We regret having to announce that the software version expected by the end of the month - in order to solve the instability problems alleged by some customers - has been postponed for several weeks. Troubleshooting is taking longer than expected because of the systematic nature of the anomalies reported, involving only a part of owners of LG Dual Optimus. Many customers have found the solution to instability in fact known (and reset the product off the phone is charging) with the upgrade to version V10b, we recommend that in any case to make. We also recommend that you reset the product to the factory settings using the menu "Privacy" after the upgrade.
However, we are aware of the hardships that some of you are trying with our product. All resources are stretched to the limit of LG to release a best software as soon as possible, but at present we have to move the deadline for issuing the second half of June. We will do everything possible to bring forward this date. We apologize again with all of you who have given us confidence when you buy LG Dual Optimus.
More news on the software release will be released on the official media, or the Facebook fanpage "LG in the Box" and "Italy LG - Life's Good"and the official blog LGBlog.it.

I don't think you guys will see Gingerbread (so soon)...
Second half of June (15th to 30th), lets say 20-25 days to possibly get the fix. I'm sure LG is not working on GB yet.
My 02x is About 2 weeks old and i have seen 1 random reboot.
Not very nice, Sometimes it is a little buggy. Obvious lg didnt work the software out quit well. If they did then this phone would fly..
About gingerbread, i guess we wait for it but it will come later as we espect it will be.. Like always!
G2X Pulled
Brief History:
Signed up as a new customer with T-Mobile on 5/25/2011.
Purchased 2 G2X phones one for me one for the wife.
My wife has had to exchange her phone 3 times. Each has been plague by random reboots. The last one rebooted 20 minutes after we left the store.
I have exchanged my phone 2 times. The first one due to signal issues. My data connection would cut out. The only way i was able to restore it was either a reboot or put the phone into airplane mode and then back out of airplane mode. My first replacement would reboot about 5 times a day. My latest's replacement has yet to reboot but it has the signal issue problems.
So instead of going for another exchange I called T-Mobile customer service. The tech support guy told me that the G2X has been pulled. They are telling their dealers to no longer issue replacements phones. Since I am a new customer they have extended my grace period to return the phone. They are going to let me wait until the Sensation comes out next week then I can exchange my G2X for it.
This is very disappointing news to me. When the G2X is working correctly it is the best phone I have used. Hopefully the Sensation will be better or just more reliable.
in the other hand, they try their best to distribute this phone as many as they can..... to make it ran out of stock

All Android devices need continued os and bug fix updates

http://www.facebook.com/motorola?sk=wall&filter=1 click the link people like it and comment on it.
I have seen first hand proof of this working. I had an evo 3d. Htc decided all futre devices would have locked bootliaders well that made alot of people angry. Someone posted a thread on xda suggesting we let htc know that is not gna fly. So it turnd out thousands of people got on there facebook wall and twitter. Guess what the next day htc released a statement saying that they wanted too keep there coustamers happy and that the bootloader would be unlocked. They were. Id like to be able too have a device and not have too get a new one juzt because moto or htc or sammy wants too put them out constantly get people too buy them and then ditch them and out out another. The atrix is 100 percent capable of runing ics and theres no excuae for it l not too recieve it just because moto wants people too buy new devices every couple months. I know many many people feel the same way well as i said we have the power too change that if people would stop bickering and take it seriously. And also if moto started supporting devices longer not just bug fixes but the new android flavors. Id definately make my next device a moto it would do nothing but benefit them
Why are we discussing/petitioning something that we don't know? Has it been set in stone that manufacturers will not support us anymore or is this all stemming from paranoia?
Because it is the trend. And the atrix 2 has been released already. All the manufactures with the exception of sammy have been doing this more and more lately abandoning. Devices. And pumping out new ones. At a very fast pace
So you are saying they are not going to support the atrix anymore since they released the atrix 2? I'd rather wait till this actually happens before i draw a conclusion. e.g. when ICS gets released and they say they are not going to update the atrix.

Look at the original Incredible.
My wife's one has been turned to **** since the 2.3.4 update, and nothing from HTC, and Verizon pretty much said too bad so sad. Buy another phone or deal with it.
So yes, support will be dropped for older models whether you like to assumed it or not.

No it is obvious support is going to be dropped for old models. But he is implying that models released this year will not get support.
I think for every $10 a phone costs over $50 on launch day (on contract) is how many months it should be updated for. So a $300 phone should be kept updated for 25 months. So this would either keep phone prices lower or keep them updated.
Facebook is a poor way of getting the attention of corporations. You want them to change? Buy a nexus phone. Money talks.

I think ICS only has support for Armv7 currently, so phones with those SoCs will get updated. However, phones using custom UIs will experience a longer waiting time, maybe around early Q1 of 2012. HTC has released like 1000 phones in the last few months and I doubt most will get ICS soon, not sure if Moto will bother at all. But it might be better to wait and actually see what goes down, like you said.
Has HTC in fact locked a boot loader or withheld hardware drivers?
I intend for my next phone to be HTC just because of the hell Samsung put us though trying to get GB on the i9000.

HTC new phones i believe i read come locked.
You can unlock them direct with HTC, but you loose all warranty. As per HTC.

As I understand it, you lose all ROM related warranty, so for instance if your screen fails then you're still covered.
Motorola unlocking bootloaders ??
you should check this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1316722
I had a motorola xt720.... not the best phone..but was ok. Motorola decided to stop supporting it within 4 months of launch or something stupid like that. No new updates no nothing. And still insisted on the bootloader staying locked so the dev's found it alot harder to do their job for them.
I will never ever buy a motorola product again.
The market is fairly competitive ... don't buy from companies that pull this crap

[Q] Would you buy lg again

Would you buy lg again if there where to update the O2X GB/ICS within 2/3 month's
If ICS within 3 months. Then maybe.
But I don't think that ICS will come at all.
No, never again.
Not even a quick update to ICS would make me consider LG again.
I bought 2 O2x the day they were released, with an initial promise of gingerbread at release. It has since taken them almost 1 year to release gingerbread and during all this time I have furthermore had a product that beside lacking a promised gingerbread also has been fundamentally defective beyond repair - namely being cursed with random rebooting and many bsod's dayli, and a defective implementation of the operating system causing various other operational issues such as lag, memory leaks etc. which havent been fixed with the froyo updates that has been released.
I usually replace all my mobile technology atleast once a year, so basically I have had a full year paying for 2 phones which never got to the state of operational ability which it should have been in before ever being released as a product. Paying full premium price for a product that was never more than an alpha product, and a product which because of this also reduced its new sale value to half and its resale value to 1/4 of the price I paied - and having the frustration of owning a product that never even made normal production value during its normal lifetime with me.
So no matter what LG might do in the future they cannot make up for the loss I made during this year, both in terms of usability value, frustration and finansial loss.
For me, this means never LG product again in any form or shape, ever.
No. No. No.
Not, because LG don't keep their high-end mobile phone update schedules.
Not, because LG is constantly one step behind in terms of android version releases.
Not, because LG software development teams are literally inadequate.
Yes, LG mobile phones are the first to "dual-core".
Yes, LG mobile phones are the first to "3D".
Unfortunately, their post-sales support is pitiful.
I do not forget the fact that my 2X was the most expensive android device on the market when I bought it. I spent my hard-earned money to buy the current flagship android device and I deserve better post-sales support from LG.
If it not for Paul Obrien, XDA, Cyanomod and a few other gifted contributors to the Android dream, I would have turned into a Mango or an Apple by now.
LG's public relations (or lack thereof) is even worse.
Yesterday, I read "No ICS for 2X".
Today I read "Maybe, we're still testing and also depend on partners".
Tomorrow I will (probably) read "The 2X sales do not justify the R&D for an ICS port".
I am (probably) not alone in saying LG sells high-end hardware with low-end support.
I will continue to invest my two cents on Android and open technologies.
Definitely not LG.
Yes, as long they keep their bootloaders open...
Sent from my LG Optimus 2x using XDA Premium App
probably not, unless they radically change their support and strategy.
i dont have any hardware problems with my device but from what i read i might just got lucky.
if it was not for xda i would probably have sold that thing after a week because with the original rom its almost as slow as my old wildfire... and i got a new device to get a bit more speed.
however im running cm for about a hundred builds now, there were some frustrating times but now im happy with the performance and stability that this rom brought to my device. thanks to all the developers for the huge effort and nerves of steel
Sent from my Optimus 2X using XDA App
Another high-end device? No more.
Low/mid-end device? Yes.
well, optimus 2x is a high end device with a low/mid price.
Yes I would buy lg again if theyll have open boot and low price but never on launch day again
YES!
as long as XDA lives! ^_^
Yes, but i will not suggest it to nobody. It's a brand for who wants to radically mod his phone.
Inviato dal mio LG-P990 usando Tapatalk
I would. This is their first major phone and they're still getting used to it all I think.
A lot of people ran with the whole never again Samsung thing, and look at them now, they got it sorted and everyone loves their phones and speed of updates.
I'm sure LG will get it right in the future.
Edit: Within 3 months? No, I will still have the O2X then I'm sure. I'm not rich enough to swap £400+ devices at will.
Maybe, but not so early. I would buy it only say 3 months after launch, when there will be enough feedback on the internet to assess all its bugs and hardware defects. And if I was to decide between two comparable phones, I would definitely not choose LG.
Only if the device has decent custom roms, because the LG software is pretty rubbish imo.
Well, LG has struggled alot but I still do think nvidia plays some part in this.
For a while I felt LG was treating customers like a baby was treating dipers.
Edit: Maybe I will buy lg again if they can turn everything around. They should get a second chance like everybody else.
Like somebody said, I wouldnt buy an LG on release for the full price, but I would buy one if it had a lower price than other comparable phones.
For example, I bought the O2X in August for 60% of the price of a SGS II (O2X was 3100 SEK, SGS II around 4500-5000).
If I were buying a top of the line Android for the full price (shortly after release), I'd go with Samsung or the Nexus (not a big HTC fan).
i started flashing rom's on my xperia x10, i did my research and bought the optimus 2x outright as an upgrade. it was so cheap for a dual core handset, and with the knowledge that i would root and flash cm7 strait away i am still very happy with the purchase. that being said if i was not a root user i would have thrown it through lg's front door ages ago. im still not sure why people complain about this phone, when most of us here on xda use custom firmware anyway. who cares about lg, the tireless efforts of all the dev's here mean that we can have a truly personalized phone without being owned or restricted by google alone. it makes me pitty iphone user's all the more... cheer up folks, the O2X is pretty sweet...

no seriously, i did actually have the x10 as my last phone and got my O2X for a bargain
I'd buy again if they keep their word and provide a timely update to ics, if not, screw them, I still have cm and other custom roms
i will.
Open bootloader, no warranty void for root, great prices?
Who can give me that?
I will if they put ICS in a decent time ...

What LG should REALLY be worried about

A lesser minority of USERS jump over the fence and update their phones to open mode despite the contracts. Thus LG's constant end-user PC updates to restrain users from updating to whatever stock ROM they want.
What LG doesn't see is something that TIM Brazil as well as other carriers worldwide do. TIM Brazil buys the phones with a big discount and sell them unlocked at full price.
In the end of the story LG gets stolen, the users don't get their updates as they become available AND the ONLY WINNER HERE is TIM Brazil, among other carriers worldwide. Even in Britain.
I think it's about time LG stopped blaming users and started making carrier contracts get fulfilled. Become more open!!!
Since LG is constantly watching this forum, I believe this will end up getting to the proper channels.
Honestly i didn't completely understand the problem, but i hope they read your post.
And since there is a thread with this title; I want to add what i always say. What LG would worry is to lose customers. You already released Gingerbread waaay toooo late. So that already made people verrryy angry. And after you released it people saw that you were working on a way to cripple rooting. So thats strike 2.
I can't talk for everbody but we didn't buy our phones for "irreplaceable" LG roms. It is an elegant, smooth phone. It is not a performance phone (which i don't care about) It is a P/P phone (price-performance) phone. Best out there for that price. And the second reason is Android. Meaning freedom. To able to do everything you want with your phone.
So.. If i wanted a restricted phone, to let the company empose everything on me i would have bought iPhone. At least they update regulary, give service and updates even to the oldest devices. But no we want to be the master of our phone. Because it's OUR phone. We paid for it, so we should be able to do anything with it. You supply the rom what we do with it is our problem. You already say rooting dismisses warranty. Isn't that enough? So i say LG people should work HARD on customer "satisfaction", not customer "restriction"
(Btw, i am an LG fan. My monitor, my television, my phone... all LG. Not my tablet though that land is still in Apple's reign. So i write this critic to be constructive. I hope someone reads and they stop the nonsense. )

LG Thrill P925P Products and Support

Let me just say that I will never buy another LG product or recommend another LG product for as long as I live! I had my LG Thrill approximately 3 months before the internal speaker quit working, LG's solution to the problem was to send me a refurbished phone. Now instead of having a P925, I have a P925P. Seems like no big deal, but when Gingerbread finally came out I had to wait until they decided to allow updates for refurbished phones. Now ICS comes out and it looks like I am going through all this crap again!! I paid a lot of money to get this phone and I got it right after it came out, and though no fault of my own my phone malfunctioned. The support is horrible! I've just spent the last 3 hours in 9 different phone calls to LG and have not resolved anything! They have a web site that I set up a username and password for and have logged into that no longer will allow me to log on. All the LG products that I have ever owned have never lasted to the warranty period or very far past the warranty! Inferior products and horrible support means that I will tell everyone I know to NEVER BUY ANOTHER LG PRODUCT PERIOD!!!
LG - lie is good We know it.
But why don't you take initiative and flash rooted ICS by youself? You are not afraid of loosing warranty, right?
Just go to LG Optimus 3D development section of xda (it's exactly the same phone but different name outside US).
There is beautiful ROM by user xbsa. Yes, it involves some pricedures but result is nice! And you will feel very proud of yourself!
